@paramounticebound asked: how many fingers am i holding up?
Tumblr media
          Obi-Wan finally crawls completely out of the dust and rubble that had fallen around him after the missile – that he was a bit too slow to stop – annihilated the building where he resided. Thankfully, he was able to prepare somewhat and while his head was pounding from the rubble that rained down on him, there were no other injuries.
At the question, the General fully stands up while rolling his eyes. Which apparently, is a huge mistake. His vision swims and nausea rolls his stomach. ❝ I assure you, I’ll be-  ❞ he cuts himself off as his measly breakfast attempts to reveal itself to Khan. He frowns as Khan’s visage sways slightly which isn’t right. Is Obi-Wan swaying, or is Khan? Or maybe neither of them?
          Force, his head hurts.
Bringing a hand up to rub at a sore spot at the base of his skull, Obi-Wan is surprised when he pulls back and his hand is wet. For a moment all he does is stare at the red stained hand as his mind attempts to calculate what that means. No, he knows that that means - he’s injured.
          But he can’t be pulled out of the battle yet. The men need him. Obi-Wan slowly lowers himself to the ground for a quick restorative meditation. His eyes close and...oh he is quite tired isn’t he? Perhaps he could have a quick nap and then back to the battle, right? Khan can watch over him.

@drgnbld asked: "cody, there's no need to call me sir here. you're here as my guest and i want you to feel as such; i'm not a commanding officer anymore."
Tumblr media
          Cody doesn’t really know Lance. He only knows him through General Kenobi who knows a lot of people it’s nearly exhausting. The Commander thought he had it hard with how many brothers he had to remember but really, the amount of people that know Kenobi is incredible.
The soldier has to remind himself not to squirm even if he is among friends. “ All due respect, sir, but I’m not comfortable calling you by your first name. ”
          Even Kenobi has been trying to get him to call him Obi-Wan for months and he just refuses to do so. It’s crossing lines and seems a bit too intimate for his likes. Not that he doesn’t like the men, just...he has to keep boundaries and that is his way of doing so.

Borderlands: Skies the Bodyguard 5
The Calypsos’ livestream has a surprise guest host.
*Links to previous and next chapters in reblog*
--
Chapter 20
           “They’re gone!?” Lilith exclaims.
           “Affirmative,” Moze replies. She and the other Vault Hunters are at the entrance to the Great Vault, where Troy and Tyreen were supposed to be, and talking to Lilith through their ECHO communicators. “There’s no sign of them here.”
           “Could they have ran when we cut off their Eridium supply?” Ava suggests, in the bridge of Sanctuary III with Lilith, Tannis, and Claptrap.
           “That seems unlikely,” Tannis replies, “they’re not the type to just give up.”
           “But then what happened?” Lilith questions.
           “Incoming transmission!” Claptrap suddenly announces, “from Timothy Lawrence.”
           “Him? What’s he want?” Lilith asks. “Put it through.”
           A hologram appears overhead of Timothy. He immediately tenses up and smiles awkwardly. “Ah, h-hey, Lilith. It’s Timothy. Remember me?”
           “Yes, I remember,” she replies impatiently. “What do you want?”
           “Uh, sorry to bother, I just have a question,” he says, “um…do you know where Skies is?”
           “Skies?”
           “Well, it’s just…she left me this message and now she’s not answering,” Timothy explains worriedly, “I just…I think she might have done something…dangerous.”
           “Perhaps she’s responsible for the disappearance of the Calypsos,” Tannis suggests.
           “Oh, actually,” he replies, “she did mention before that she…hypothetically…might have some way of defeating the Calypsos. But she seemed really apprehensive about it.”
           “She also mentioned to me that she had some kind of plan,” Tannis adds, “but she didn’t elaborate.”
           “What is she up to?” Lilith muses. “We’ll watch out for her, Timothy, and let you know if we find anything.”            “Thank you,” he nods appreciatively and hangs up.
           “Did Skies go up against the Calypsos without us?” Ava asks.
           “It seems likely,” Tannis replies.
           “But then where is she? What happened?”
           Before anyone can reply, all of their ECHO devices chime with a live video.
           “It’s a new COV video!” Claptrap exclaims.
           “The Calypsos?” Ava questions.
           Across the galaxy, everyone tunes in to the new video. All the denizens of Sanctuary III; Rhys, Zer0, and Lorelai on Promethea; Hammerlock and Wainwright on Eden-6; Vaughn, the Vault Hunters, and Tina and Brick and Mordecai on Pandora; and Timothy in his apartment. They all wait apprehensively as it loads.
           It opens up to Troy. He’s in some kind of darkened room, doubled over on his knees. His face is contorted in pain and covered in sweat and his robot arm is clutching his side while the rest of his body is tense as if bound in some way. He’s glaring at someone behind the camera with exhausted defiance.
           “Now turn the camera to me,” somebody orders in a male, charming- some might even say ‘handsome’- voice. It sends shivers down the spines of all who recognize it.
          The camera turns around to a mask of Handsome Jack, being held by someone out of frame. “Hellooooo, galaxy!” his voice sings, “we interrupt your regularly scheduled COV bullshit to bring you…”
           The mask is dropped to reveal Skies’ face and she lowers her ECHO device which was disguising her voice. “Me!”
           All viewers gasp with surprises as she giggles and the camera zooms out to get a full shot. “That is way too much fun. For those of you who don’t know me- which I’m hoping isn’t too many- I’m Skies the Ultimate Treasure Hunter.”
           “Now, I’m sure you loyal listeners out there are wondering what the hell I’m doing here and just how I turned your so-called ‘God King’ Troy into my little boy toy,” she says as she walks around to where Troy is kneeling, and pats his head. He growls defiantly but is unable to do much else. “Well, to fully explain all that, I hope you will indulge me on a short history lesson. And seeing as how you’ve listened to these two go on about obnoxious crap for hours, that shouldn’t be a problem. Just consider me a guest host.”            “Now, Tyreen and Troy weren’t the first to try and use the Vaults to become gods,” Skies explains, “about seven years ago, there was Handsome Jack. I’m sure most of you out there will know he was CEO of Hyperion. Others will know what an absolute asshole he was. None alive now were quite as close to him as I was.”
          “He intended to use the Vault of the Warrior to purge Pandora and rule the galaxy. He failed, of course, because that’s what happens to villains. They fail. I know this because I also failed.”
           “But I still live!” She spreads her arms victoriously. “And Jack’s legacy lives on with me, because I have this.” She shows her Handsome Jack mask. “And I have made it my goal to use Jack’s legacy as much as I can for good, to make up for all the evil I did while I was with him.”
           “I don’t just own some fake Handsome Jack mask,” she explains, “I have the real deal that he wore on his stupid, chiseled face. And it wasn’t just used to hide an embarrassing scar. It hides so many secrets inside its artificial flesh. Like the long-lost rights to Hyperion, making its owner the CEO. Or blueprints to a special holding cell made specifically for Sirens. Or fast travel codes to such a holding cell that was already built. Or even digistruct codes for a special collar made to control Sirens.”
           “And that’s what we have here.” Skies kneels down so she’s level with Troy and lifts his head to show off the glowing-purple, metal collar around his neck. “When powered up with Eridium, this collar turns Sirens into Jack’s personal little dolls. The only hitch there being that Jack is dead, and the collar only responds to his voice. But of course making a voice modulator is easy enough.” She lifts her ECHO device to her mouth and Jack’s voice comes out. “Especially for someone who loved the sound of his own voice.”
           She lowers her ECHO as she sighs, leaning against Troy. “But what’s the point, I hear you asking? Why not just kill Troy now that he’s next to useless? Why have I subjected to you to my babbling? Well, that’s very simple.”
           Skies grabs the camera and pulls it in close to her dark glare. “Tyreen, I’m calling you out.”
           “Your brother is my hostage. Right now we are locked away in an impenetrable fortress that can only be accessed one of two ways. Either you have Jack’s exact DNA and voice and know the access password- and I know only one person alive has all of that and he better stay the hell away. Or you can phase through the walls with, say, stolen Siren abilities.”
           “If you care about your brother at all, or just don’t want to be considered a coward by your followers- I’m betting the latter- you’ll come face me,” Skies challenges. “I’ll give you one hour. If you don’t show up, I’ll have my Troy toy here do a livestream of his corpse after I shoot it. We’ll be waiting.”
         Skies wraps her arm around Troy’s neck, pulls him close, and tugs on his cheek. “Now smile!”
           She smiles widely while Troy just grimaces beneath her grip. Then she speaks into her ECHO device, “now end it.”
           And the livestream ends.

Shikantaza Creativity Interview III - SPARTALIEN
At Shikantaza we are not content to just create art. We want to understand art. We want to understand the people who make art. Into the act of creation. Who are the people behind the art work? What motivates them? Where do they find their inspiration?
No two people think and act alike, so it is even less likely to find two artists who think and act alike. Yet, there will be crossovers, shared thoughts and shared experiences. Where do we adjoin and where do we diverge?
Our series of interviews with artists and creators aims to answer these questions.
In interview number three we speak to multimedia experimenter SPARTALIEN. You can find his creations here https://spartalien.com/visual as well as a collection of his work in the Shikantaza gallery.
1 - Starting with the most important question - Who is Memoria?
Memoria is Latin and means, when translated, memory / remembrance.
I named the merchandise for the album "2358" Memoria instead of Memory, because the main track titles are also translated into Latin.
Tumblr media
I see my merchandise as small memories/artefacts. Not only because they are very rare, but because I can never go back to that time.
“Memory is the treasury and guardian of all things” - Cicero
2 - You work across different mediums. Do you have any preference for a specific form? When did you first find the format that was “you”?
I became really infected with the digital virus around in the late 90s when I built my first computer. A year or two later I started taking photos and manipulating them digitally. I also had a few printed, which allowed me to bring the digital into the real world. Then I discovered IRC and started learning a little bit of TCL. Since I had fun coding, I decided to learn the basics of web development because I needed a website to show my pictures to other people. In general, I was fascinated by the flow of information on the Internet. That distance is no longer a real hurdle when it comes to data transmission.
I've always loved music as a listener and small collector. I was then and still am one of those people who never go out of the house for long periods of time without a Walkman. Music production came into play when a couple of friends set up a small studio where they produced Techno/Psy. When I was there for the first time, I knew immediately that I wanted to try it too. A few old tracks from back then are still available on my website.
From then on, many of my projects have developed in the direction of music.  The input for a program was often music metadata or it was a website that was about music in some way or another. But since I was still at the very beginning of my learning process, I kept discarding practically everything in order to improve it or to learn new things. Around 2001, I started a web radio with friends, which was online for several years. The music was mainly Downtempo, Trip-Hop, IDM and Ambient. Promos from unknown artists from around the world were also broadcasted.
The atmosphere, the feeling I got from this time - how the music finds me and not the other way around, how it can change people's thoughts - has never left me since then.
3 - Do you feel that each medium allows you to express yourself differently from the others? How do you choose which medium you work in any given moment?
Yes. But I think you can convey the same feelings with any medium. The question is how direct it is. For example, pain can be expressed with fire but also with a chair in an empty room. At the end of the day, in my opinion, it's not about the artist's intention but about the perception of the viewer and his or her subsequent thoughts and actions. For example, imagine you make a dark ambient track that you experience as sad and heavy, but someone else tells you that it helped to relax and develop thoughts.
In addition to all of this, each medium also has advantages and disadvantages when it comes to technical implementation. So, sometimes the choice can also purely depend on skill or resources.
We all have ideas and often out ambitions outweigh our resources. Sometimes we need more resources, but more often than not we need to chip away at our ideas until our ambitions and resources align.
4 - Do you seek different sources of inspiration for your music than you would for your visual creations?
It's everything in the world around me that inspires me. Everything I perceive and feel, so to speak. Most of the time I don't have a melody or a picture in my head. It is more of a feeling and then I look for the right tone or shape for it, so to speak.
5 - How closely are your creations connected to each other?
Very close one could say - through my thoughts that I have wrapped in it. I always had a bit of a problem putting my thoughts into words. I tend to stray through various topics when I talk about something. With music and visuals, it feels lighter and more natural to get to the point. The "message" doesn't always get through, but being able to do so is liberating and invaluable to me.
6 - If you were to direct people to a specific piece of work that you feel really nails what you are aiming for with your creations, which would it be?
This is a hard question. Maybe I would ask you to sit down and listen to the album "FLOATING HIGH" in one sitting. Since it felt like coming home to me while making it. The music is less intrusive and not as precise in its message as the previous releases. Like its cover art, where the clouds could be seen as opening or closing. I wanted to create tracks that leave more room for thought while still telling a story.
Tumblr media
7 - You have “X minutes of peace” on your site. Why is this needed? Was this made for you or for others?
For others but also for myself. For me it is self-reflection that allows me to understand myself better. But since I have problems with "just switching off my head", the moments in which I just sit quietly and let the recording device do its work are very valuable. In moments like these I can really switch off and think about something very carefully. Asking questions even though I feel like I don't have an answer. Or simply enjoying the precious fresh air and sounds of nature.
Unfortunately, too many people don't have time for that kind of peace. Too much pressure is on them. They either get this or that, or they can't survive. It's so sad how the system works. I simply think that if everyone would have more inner-peace, the world would be a better place. But then again, what do I know living under a rock between mountains?
The videos should allow us to find peace for a few minutes, no matter where we are. So that new and hopefully useful thoughts can develop.
The series  Let It All Go is actually the same thing, just with music.
For the really dark hours there is BRAIN I/O. From time to time I prefer to embrace the pressure. Difficult to describe. The concept is basically: don't think, just feel and record it. It's about things that I personally want to leave behind or at least want to learn to accept (not necessarily being okay with) them if I can't change them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Peace is an issue for me. When I briefly find it only points the way to the next act. This is fantastic but self defeating. Why can’t we just stay in peace?
8 - When inspiration has left the building where do you look to find it?
I'm not really actively looking for inspiration. Somehow it doesn't work that way for me. So variety is important to me. That is why I usually have several side projects going on in the areas that I do not much publicize. Much of it never leaves my hard drive and is mainly intended to free my mind and get on to new ideas in the process. Coding, graphics, drawing, etc. But the music production is and remains the main focus.
9 - These are the questions I am asking all the interviewees. Why do you create? What is it that pushes you to keep creating?
The inner child is just too strong. I've been living for a while and I know exactly nothing. It kind of feels like that. So many things that you can create with the computer alone. I'm stuck in that loop where you just love to create things and learn - and use the new knowledge to create new things. Things!
10 - What would most assist you to create more works? Is there an ultimate goal for your creations?
More time and resources for sure. but most important to me is the feeling that my loved ones are safe. When I have to worry about their future because the system is going the way it is, it feels like a pile of stones in my head.
The creative / social goal of my art is relatively simple and based on my own experience. Art has helped me tremendously when I felt lost - or when I was just "bored". Taking time to really listen to or look at something can be very liberating.
My short-term financial goal is to generate a more or less regular income through art. But since I never released anything commercially before 2016, this world is still new to me.
My dream goal is to hear my music in film and games and to generate an income that supports my family.
Nonetheless, I think goals are here to create an initial path, not necessarily motivation.
I do not know of a single soul who has not been lost. Some never find their way back. Some don’t need to find their way back, they are happier in the place they found.
11 - If you were to offer a creator any advice what would it be?
Based on my own experience in no particular order:
Stay curious and open minded for different viewpoints.
Tutorials can limit your creativity. Sure, learn the basics, but explore as much as you can on your own and never be afraid to fail. It's a process, not a game.
On projects that take longer than a day to complete, set yourself a deadline when you want to have it completed. Not important if it takes longer, but in general that helps to stay more focused.
Very few things are easy when you start.
Limitations are not necessarily bad.
Don't wait for motivation to create. It will kick in usually a few minutes after you've started. Therefore keep your tools ready and organized so you can start creating at any time.
You can always turn off the internet.
Be open for constructive criticism.
Especially for the digital crowd, backup your stuff!

I just found your Chancellor Kenobi verse and I love it. Especially how Obi-wan and Anakin are fixing their relationship while Palpatine keeps trying to tear it apart. Howewver, I can't help but wonder how Anakin, Ahsoka, Cody, Rex, and the 501st and the 212th Battalions will react when they hear about the bombing of the Senate.
Anonymous said:Please I must know how Anakin reacted to being told about Obi-Wan I love this story so much
HERE WE GO! Here we go! I’ve done edits and research, and tried hard and I sure as fuck hope that my portrayal of a panic attack is okay, and respectful. If I’ve fucked up, just let me know and I’ll do my best to fix it!
Thanks to @dendral for helping me look it over!
I could likely have filed even more on it, but at some point you kinda need to stop. Also, my birthday’s coming up and I don’t want to stress about this too when it hits, hahaha.
So here we go, anons, and everyone else! Anakin gets the news!
WARNING: a character has a panic attack, so descriptions thereof will be found within. Said character also has trouble breathing.
“General Skywalker, we have an incoming transmission from Coruscant,” Rex says, standing straight and with his arms crossed behind his back—stiff and formal. Anakin’s eyes narrow; that kind of posture generally means a transmission from the Council…
There’s a churning in the pit of Anakin’s stomach and he still feels the echoes of the Force screaming. He’s tried not to think about it, but now he can’t help the thought that keeps spinning in his mind: has something happened?
“I’ll come immediately, Captain.” He nods to Rex and turns to his Padawan. “Ahsoka, you take over the attack-coordination. I should be back soon.”
“Yes, Master,” she says and nods in return before she turns back to the holomaps of the star system and closest planets.
Anakin sets a fast pace toward the communication centre, but Rex, as always, keeps up.
“Rex, who can I expect?” Might as well have as much information as possible before he takes the comm. Preparation is key, as Obi-Wan likes to say.
“It’s General Windu, Sir. From how he looked it appears to be both very urgent and extremely important.”
Anakin blinks, and his stomach drops. Well, that doesn’t sound good. Master Windu being wound up enough to not be the picture of—sometimes grumpy—stoicism? Something must be very wrong. Could it actually be something to do with the Force crying out?
The walk to the communication hub isn’t long and it barely takes them a minute to get there. The door slides open and Anakin immediately sees Master Windu’s holo, arms crossed and with a grave expression on his face; there seems to be an almost grim edge to his facial expression that Anakin has very rarely seen before—and only in the most serious situations.
“Master Windu, I came as fast as I could,” Anakin says with a nod as soon as he steps within holocam range. “Captain Rex said it was urgent.” He tilts his head slightly towards Rex on his right.
“Knight Skywalker,” Master Windu says, inclining his head. “The Captain is correct. We could not delay this comm and risk you hearing these news from any other source.”
Anakin’s stomach drops further. That… that can’t be good at all.
“Has something happened?” Anakin crosses his arms behind his back to make sure Master Windu can’t see the way his fingers clench on his arms, a nervous tic.
Master Windu’s eyes close and he nods. “Several bombs went off in the office of Senator Biwa of the moon Illi-hian.” He looks, if possible, even grimmer.
“There was an attack on the Senate? When—” Before Anakin can continue, Master Windu cuts him off—swiftly, but not rudely.
“It happen just about one standard hour ago. So far, the only confirmed casualties are Senator Biwa himself and Senator Himesh of Cyllian III, beyond them, six people were injured. However…” Master Windu pauses briefly—Anakin’s thoughts are already running wild. What about Padmé? Is she safe? Has she been hurt? And what about Obi-Wan? He’s there too, is he safe?
Master Windu seems to almost steel himself. “Master Kenobi—Obi-Wan—was in that office,” he says softly, gently.
Anakin’s thoughts grind to a halt. What?
No. No, he can’t have… he can’t be—! Only two confirmed casualties, neither of them Obi-Wan, he reminds himself.
“Is he… is he okay?” Anakin tries to keep the urgency out of his voice, tries to keep calm, but he can feel his heartbeat pick up. Obi-Wan is on Coruscant, he should be safe there.
“His condition is critical.” Master Windu’s words hits Anakin like a sledgehammer to the head. “The healers don’t know if he will make it or not yet, but they got to him quickly, thanks to the troopers he brought with him to the meeting.”
Breathe.
Breathe.
Anakin tries to keep it together, tries to remind himself to breathe, but it suddenly feels almost impossibly hard. He has to breathe. He has to calm down and breathe.
He gets jolted out of his fixating thoughts by Rex’s shoulder suddenly connecting with his, and he manages to draw a deep, shuddering breath in through his nose. He glances to his captain slightly, and nods his thanks. The panic is not gone, but it has abated slightly. He is not alone.
He quickly realises that Master Windu has been waiting—silent—while Anakin collected himself.
“What… what are my orders?” he chokes out. He wants to rush back to Coruscant immediately, he needs to be with Obi-Wan. He can’t lose him like this. He can’t. Not now.
But Obi-Wan… Obi-Wan would want him to at least ask what his orders are first. And what if they want him to investigate the attempt? And he fucks it up by rushing ahead and they never find out who did this? He can’t. He can’t.
“If you think you can keep your mind on the battle ahead of you without distraction, stay where you are and complete your mission. However, if you do not think you can do so, withdraw your troops and return to Coruscant. Either path is open to you.” Master Windu’s eyes open and stare into Anakin’s. “The only thing you absolutely may not do, is leave your troops behind and return to Coruscant alone.”
Is… is this a test?
“And… it’s… my choice?” If he returns to Coruscant, will he fail whatever test this is? Are they lying about what happened to test him? Is that what this is? Some form of test to see if he will let his attachments interfere with his missions? Palpatine has always said the Council doesn’t trust Anakin as they should…. have they decided to test him?
“The mission you’re on is not time sensitive enough that re-routing a different part of the army would be unfeasible. We would lose more if you fail because you pushed yourself than if you retreat and let someone else take over. Master Unduli and her troops are in a nearby system awaiting orders, moving them to your position would not cause a significant delay.”
Anakin nods slowly. That… that makes sense. But… What should he do? If Obi-Wan is… Is… Then Anakin should be there, shouldn’t he?
As if sensing Anakin’s hesitation, despite the incredible distance between them, Master Windu speaks up again, “You do not have to answer immediately. Take a few hours to gather your thoughts, and discuss the situation with your Padawan and Captain.” He pauses and sighs. “If there’s any change in the situation, we’ll get in contact with you again.”
Anakin nods mutely. Take time to think. Yes. Good.
“And… Anakin.” Master Windu’s tone is gentle, his face worried. “Consider your feelings and your state of mind carefully, but don’t forget to consider your Padawan’s situations as well.”
Anakin blinks. Breathes. Tries to remember the last time Master Windu called him by his first name.
The silence stretches, and Anakin realises with a twitch that Master Windu might be waiting for a vocal confirmation.
“I’ll get back to you within three hours, Master Windu,” he croaks and clears his throat. “May the Force be with you.”
Master Windu’s eyes look a million stars away. “May the Force be with us all, Knight Skywalker.”
His holo disappears, and Anakin stands there, staring where the hologram once was and tries to keep breathing.
Without Master Windu’s holo in front of him, Anakin finds himself anchorless. Obi-Wan might die. Anakin could lose him.
It’s not fair. He can’t lose Obi-Wan now. Not now when Anakin finally knows for sure that Obi-Wan cares, has always cared. If he didn’t know… he’d take it better. But now… now…
The air seems thick, hard to breathe. He recognises the feeling from another time he received news that turned everything upside down.
The sounds of the hub seem far away, or distorted, as if Anakin were underwater.
He clutches at his face and gasps for breath.
He feels uncountably vulnerable, with his back bare as it is. There’s no Obi-Wan to have his back, no Master to place a warm palm on his back and give a small smile. There’s no best friend-brother-father-everything to help him this time.
His back hits the wall, and he slides down to a sitting position.
He can’t breathe.
Obi-Wan isn’t here.
Obi-Wan can’t help.
Anakin can’t breathe.
~~~~
The news hit like a blaster bolt to the chest, and Rex can see his general’s face drain of blood and turn almost ashen. Rex keeps a close eye on him the rest of the holocall, but luckily he only needs to get his mind back to the present with a gentle shoulder nudge once.
Cody.
Rex grits his teeth and tries to keep calm, but his thoughts keep turning to his brother, his brother who had to leave his Jedi behind and go into the field alone… and now said Jedi might die. Cody will be devastated, he’ll blame himself…
Rex closes his eyes and breathes deeply. He wishes he could be there when Cody gets the news, if only to be a shoulder for him to lean on, a grounding familiar presence.
Rex has seen many brothers lose their Jedi over the course of this war, has seen them get crushed in a way Rex can’t really explain. It’s as if they see their Jedi’s death as their personal failure and crack like the dry earth under the heat of an unforgiving sun.
But there’s more than just Cody, that weighs on Rex’s mind. It’s the knowledge that General Kenobi’s state will have far spread consequences on the troops, not just in the 212th, but throughout the whole army, and on Rex’s own General and Commander.
If General Kenobi dies…
Rex doesn’t want to consider it.
Cody isn’t here. Rex cannot be there for his brother. But he can be there for his General and his Commander… And knowing his General, he will need it. If only as a calming influence to keep him from flying off the handle to go hunting for whoever planted those bombs.
The call ends, and Rex awaits orders. No doubt will General Skywalker leap into action, either to find the Commander to tell her the news or to tell Rex about his decision…
To Rex’s surprise, however, the General doesn’t move at first. Instead, he stands still, his hands slowly creeping up toward his face—until they clutch at it with a grip so harsh the skin around his fingers turn white—as his breathing grows heavy and ragged.
Rex watches as he staggers backwards until his back hits the wall of the command centre, and he slides down to the floor.
What in all the Core Worlds…?
Rex has seen this behaviour before, in some brothers who suddenly couldn’t cope with the battle field before. It has been whispered through the army, because telling someone other than clone medics is unthinkable. If the Kaminoans ever heard of it… Well… Those brothers would be considered defective, and that’s something no other trooper wants to even think about.
Rex moves slowly to his general’s side, unwilling to startle him. He glances around the room, but the command centre had been mostly empty before Rex took his post, and none of the brothers working are looking this way, so at least the General has some privacy.
“General. Is there anything I can do to help?” he says, speaking softly enough that the words shouldn’t carry across the room. Rex is pretty sure that the last thing General Skywalker needs is to be crowded right now.
General Skywalker shakes his head jerkily, almost as if he barely has control of the motion.
“Obi-Wan is… Obi-Wan is…” he gasps, breath hitching.
While Rex would have expected the news to hit hard, he hadn’t expected this. He’d expected his general’s anger to search for a fitting target. He’d expected his general’s fierce determination to search for whoever was responsible.
But he hadn’t expected a panic attack.
“Is there anything I can do, General?” Rex murmurs, deliberately keeping his face smooth to avoid wincing in sympathy for his general’s harsh, fitful breaths. Rex wishes Kix was here; the medic would probably know what to do, how to help.
“B-breathe,” the General gasps, one hand now clawing at his chest, the other still clutching at his face with a white-knuckled grip.
Breathe? Rex isn’t sure what that means. He can tell that the general’s breathing is harsh and erratic, that much is obvious, but in the context of if there’s something Rex can do for him…?
“Yes, General, I can see you’re having trouble breathing,” Rex says, creeping slightly closer to his General.
For a brief moment, Rex wishes the Commander was here. Maybe she would know what to do, and maybe she’s seen the General like this before—!
His train of thought is cut off as General Skywalker’s hand, the one that isn’t clutching at his face, reaches out and almost slaps against his chestplate in a movement so fast Rex’s eyes can’t track it. He looks down at the hand lying flat against his chest—fingers splayed—as it twitches slightly, before he looks back at General Skywalker.
However… he isn’t looking at Rex at all. In fact, his eyes seem fixed on his own hand. Rex frowns and makes an aborted attempt to scratch his head, deciding instead that perhaps it’s best if he remains still and exactly where he is.
The general’s breathing starts slowing down, and the whites around his eyes become less prominent. Slowly his fingers relax and stop gouging into his cheek.
That’s when it clicks. Rex looks down at the hand on his chest again, and the slight way it moves with Rex’s own breathing. Is the general using his hand as a focus to match his breathing to Rex’s own?
Deciding to test his theory, Rex allows his own breathing to slow and deepen—making the slight movement of his chestplate more pronounced. The general’s breathing patterns start to follow.
So that was what he was trying to ask of Rex when he said “breathe” before. He wanted to create a focus to help him calm his breathing—which makes Rex wonder if the General has previous experience with this… And why he hasn’t told Rex about it.
While he respects his general’s need for privacy, this is the kind of important information that could be the difference between life and death on a battlefield.
Rex purses his lips and decides he’ll talk to General Skywalker about it later. Right now, there are other things that require their immediate attention.
However, as soon as General Skywalker has calmed down and made his decision regarding the mission…
The National Democratic Alliance’s decisive election victory has understandably buoyed markets and raised expectations of big-bang reforms (land, labour, capital) to drive the next burst of growth. It’s important, however, for policy-makers not to get ahead of themselves. The first order of business must be to stabilise an economy that finds itself on a precarious wicket.
Growth has slowed discernably in recent quarters. To be sure, some of the pressures are transient: Sharp cuts in government spending to meet the 2018-19 fiscal deficit target, election-related uncertainty, and regulatory-induced one-time price-increases in the auto sector. These pressures will reverse in the coming months. But, even adjusting for this, underlying growth momentum has slowed meaningfully. Indian growth has largely been flying on one engine — consumption — which has progressively exhausted itself. Rural consumption is hurting because the terms-of-trade confronting agriculture continued to worsen in 2018-19. Slowing urban consumption reflects the disruptions in the non-banking finance companies (NBFCs), auto and housing sectors, as well as the inevitable limits of dipping into savings to prop-up consumption when income growth has slowed. Simultaneously, the outlook for exports has worsened as global trade wars deepen. Slowing exports and consumption together create the worrying prospect of hysteresis. Therefore, even as the strong election result is likely to rekindle animal-spirits, they must contend with formidable headwinds.
The real challenge, however, is that counter-cyclical policy space is either exhausted or currently inefficacious. Calls for a fiscal stimulus appear irresponsible, since India’s total public sector borrowing requirement is almost 9 per cent of GDP, consuming all housing financial savings, keeping market interest rates elevated and impeding monetary transmission. Any stimulus will likely be counter-productive, simply pushing-up interest rates further, accentuating crowding-out risks and financial fragilities in the NBFC sector. Monetary policy has been eased but is not transmitting, with the yield curve still very steep, and bank lending rates barely budging.
What then can policy-makers do to arrest the slowdown? While markets remain focused on the demand side, the optimal response, in our view, is to focus on the supply side. Fixing the plumbing in three areas must constitute the near-term policy agenda:
1. NBFCs: its solvency, not liquidity
The relentless pressure that NBFCs have been under since last year has translated into their credit offtake collapsing , thereby compounding the consumption slowdown. While bank credit has stepped-in, it cannot completely offset it, because these are very different business models that target different end-users.
The NBFC slowdown shouldn’t be surprising. Financial conditions have meaningfully tightened in the sector with average spreads of NBFC bonds significantly above their pre-IL&FS levels. Importantly, this is despite liquidity conditions easing. Interbank system liquidity has eased, core-liquidity is now in a surplus, and several NBFCs are holding much higher cash levels on their books. Despite that, spreads have not softened, clearly suggesting these are reflecting credit risk, and not liquidity, premia. Mutual fund flows have dried up and even bank lending to NBFCs — a key source of refinancing and disbursements — has slowed, suggesting banks, too, may be getting wary of credit risk. Contrary to the market clamour, therefore, this is not a liquidity problem. It’s an underlying solvency concern.
A missing middle?
This, by itself, should not warrant any policy intervention. Lenders re-assessing risk and charging higher risk premia is just the market mechanism playing itself out. Any intervention will simply induce moral hazard. That said, there is a growing concern that asymmetric information may be compromising allocative efficiency. The best NBFCs are easily able to attract funding and those with the most well-known vulnerabilities have understandably been rationed out. The problem is not at the extremes. It’s likely in the “missing middle”. It’s likely that a vast swathe of NBFC s in the middle are unable to attract funding or raise equity, because investors are unsure about their underlying asset quality. This is the classic asymmetric information problem. One can’t distinguish good apples from the bad ones, and so stops lending to all apples. In turn, this is forcing several NBFCs to demonstrably hoard cash — and thereby cut back on disbursements — to “signal” that are not amongst the bad apples. But this is a very inefficient signaling mechanism. More generally, asymmetric information about underlying asset quality is leading to allocative inefficiency and weighing on financing, equity raising, credit off-take and therefore on GDP growth.
Needed: credible signaling
What is therefore needed is a credible external signaling mechanism. This can best be provided by the regulator undertaking an asset quality review (AQR) of the NBFC sector. Once concluded, this would credibly distinguish the good apples from the bad apples, eliminate the “trust deficit” that looms over the sector, and allow the good apples to raise equity and funding. Operationally, an AQR will need to be delicately handled and artfully managed. It may lead to temporary disruption. But doing nothing also has a very real cost — the risk of accidents and that of foregone growth, quarter after quarter.
2. The fiscal-monetary tango
A credible Budget in July is critical. Actual revenue collections in 2018-19 are likely to be much below the revised estimates, making the projected revenues for next year virtually unattainable. The government must therefore (i) reiterate its fiscal deficit target of 3.4 per cent of GDP; (ii) but do so by credibly budgeting revenues and expenditures; (iii) and ensuring that legitimate budgetary payments — like to Food Corporation of India — are not pushed off-balance sheet. Barring this, bond markets are likely to get nervous again, and build in more risk-premia into bond yields, thereby pushing up the cost of capital further. A credible Budget, however, rests squarely on GST revenues increasing markedly, which will necessitate further simplification of the GST and meaningfully-tighter compliance mechanisms.
A credible Budget will also help in boosting monetary transmission. First, it will balm bond yields and ease financial conditions. Second, if bond yields are lower, small savings rates — linked to bond yields — should also come down, making bank deposits more attractive, boosting deposit growth, and helping monetary transmission in the banking system. Third, rampant non-compliance of GST pushed up currency-in-circulation (CIC) in 2018-19. If GST compliance is tightened, CIC growth will fall, deposit growth will rise and provide more fillip to monetary transmission. Fourth, how a fiscal deficit is met matters for growth. Meeting the deficit by slashing public investment — where fiscal multipliers are arguably higher — versus tightening indirect tax collections — can have meaningful implications for growth.
In contrast, if markets worry about fiscal credibility, and monetary policy is simultaneously eased, the yield curve will steepen further, inducing the financial sector to borrow short and lend long — as the margin of temptation from maturity transformation increases – but accentuating financial fragility.
3. Reversing the terms of trade
Tackling agrarian distress — by trying to correct the adverse terms of trade from low food prices —must constitute the third near-term priority. There is limited space on the demand side. The PM Kisan scheme should boost food demand, but total spend is just 0.4 per cent of GDP, and there is no fiscal space for more.
Instead, the answer lies on the supply side. There are early signs that some wholesale food prices have begun to pick-up. Distortive policies — like the stock-holding limits, intermittent export bans, and the Essential Commodities Act — must be done away with, so that some normalisation of food prices is accommodated. Simultaneously, the new government needs to ensure that surplus production is quickly exported to avoid domestic gluts.
Markets are clamouring for stimulus and romanticising about big-bang reforms. But the new administration’s immediate priority must be to stabilise the economic boat by first fixing the plumbing.
Mutualize budget risk in this crisis | Economy
Paseo de la Castellana, in Madrid, this Thursday practically empty.Victor J Blanco / GTRES (GTRES)
The health crisis caused by the coronavirus has become a serious threat to people's health. Its economic impact is already visible and the available indicators point to a severe contraction of economic activity on a global scale.
The experience of some countries, where the virus broke out earlier, suggests that, if adequate containment measures are taken, the health crisis will be temporary. Another issue is that the negative impact of this crisis on the economy is also limited in time or leaves a more lasting mark. This will depend on the response given by economic policy in all its areas. A fast, forceful and coordinated action of the different economic authorities – national and European; , monetary, and supervisory authorities— will make the crisis more likely to have transitory effects, and not end up leaving a long trail of job losses and company closings along the way.
In recent days, most European governments – including, of course, the Spanish government – have adopted important budgetary measures to support families, the self-employed and businesses, which should substantially cushion the impact of this crisis. High-volume public guarantees and guarantees have also been deployed to help keep financing flowing to the real economy. These measures are necessary and appropriate at the moment, and constitute the first natural line of action to contain the destruction of numerous economic and financial relationships – between companies and workers, customers and suppliers, lenders and borrowers – whose survival is essential for the eventual remission of the health crisis gives way to a rapid recovery.
But the response to the coronavirus crisis also concerns other economic policies. This includes monetary policy. On 12 March, the Governing Council of the ECB approved several measures, ranging from new long-term bank debt refinancing operations (LTRO and TLTRO-III, for its acronym in English), with very favorable conditions, to an expansion of the volume of purchases of securities under the asset purchase program (APP), for a total amount of 120,000 million euros for the rest of the year.
At the same time, the Single Supervisory Mechanism (SSM) has taken several important decisions in the area of banking supervision to ensure that credit institutions can continue to provide financing to families and businesses. For this, among other measures, the SSM has provided that credit institutions can use the capital and liquidity buffers and, more recently, it has introduced supervisory flexibility in relation to the treatment of loans related to Covid-19, with the ultimate objective of allowing families and companies to fully benefit from the guarantees, guarantees and moratoriums approved by public authorities.
However, given the rapid progress of the health crisis and the consequent deterioration of the economic and financial situation in the euro area that took place in the days following the March 12 meeting, the Governing Council of the ECB approved last Wednesday , March 18, a new package, which included the main measure, the launch of a new program to purchase assets, public and private bonds. Under this program, the ECB will buy at least € 750 billion in assets this year and, if necessary, beyond that date. In addition, exceptionally, the ECB may acquire Greek government bonds.
A very relevant aspect of this new program is that it will allow the monetary authority to carry out asset purchases in a flexible way, regarding both their temporary distribution and the assets to be acquired – public and private – and to the nationality of its issuer. Furthermore, the ECB Council has underlined that the current limits of its asset purchase programs will be reviewed, as deemed necessary, to preserve their effectiveness and ensure the correct transmission of monetary policy in all countries of the area, avoiding the financial fragmentation of the eurozone. In this way, some pre-existing limits (and freely fixed by the central bank) could be eliminated, so that the internal distribution of the stimulus package will basically obey the most urgent need: where, how and when they may be more indicated and therefore useful for each and for the whole.
Through this package of measures, the Governing Council sends a loud and clear message that it will do everything in its power to guarantee comfortable financing conditions for all economic sectors – households, companies, banks and governments – and that it will use all means at its disposal to help the citizens of the euro area to overcome this extremely difficult time, as it is their duty to European citizens. Because helping the economy overcome this slump is helping people suffer the least possible negative impact on their incomes and so that they can regain normality in the shortest possible time, so that their lives are not affected beyond the inevitable.
The measures approved by the national authorities and by the ECB will bring significant economic and financial relief to our economies. But the answer to this crisis must go further. The pandemic and its economic impact are affecting all countries in the euro area and, by extension, the European Union. The common challenge that lies ahead is of such magnitude that meeting it requires determined and ambitious action by community authorities and institutions through existing instruments, both financial and budgetary, as well as possible new tools, among which it must Priority should be given to those that strengthen the ability to share —mutualize — the budgetary risk of the Member States. It is at this difficult moment that the principle of solidarity on which the European project was founded must be valued, which will also lead to greater efficiency in the measures. Greater ambition and coordination of the response at European level is not an option, it is an urgent need.
Change of Circumstances and Grandparent Custody
The concept of “change of circumstances” is an important on in the context of child custody, but it’s complicated concept in family law.  When a person wants to change the court’s custody orders, there has to be a change in circumstances.
The first important question is “Whose circumstances have to have changed?”  The answer to that depends on whether the order is a shared parenting decree (two residential parents), joint custody (one parent and one non-parent) or whether a person (or persons) have legal custody (aka residential parent or sole custody).  In a nutshell, the question is “Shared Parenting, Joint Custody or Sole Custody?”
When a person has sole custody of a child (aka “legal custody” or sole residential parent), then the change of circumstances must be a change in the circumstances of the child or legal custodian.  It does not matter if the parent who has visitation only, (or has no visitation but simply retains his or her residual parental rights) has changed his or her circumstances, even if his or her circumstances have changed substantially.
In Alexander v. Alexander, the court of appeals for found that the trial court did not abuse it’s discretion when it overruled the Mother’s Motion to Change Allocation of Parental Rights and Responsibilities regarding her three children.  The children were in the custody of their paternal grandmother as a result of the agreement of the Mother and Father during their divorce.  The Mother had visitation (parenting time).
youtube
During the trial on the Mother’s Motion to Reallocate, Mother testified that she had been working for some time to make a more stable home for the children.  Among other things, Mother testified that she was employed and had lived in her apartment for a year and a half.  The trial court found that the change of circumstances must have occurred “in the circumstances of the child, the child’s residential parent, or either of the parents subject to a shared parenting decree“.  In this case, the changes were in the Mother’s circumstances.  In addition, the trial court found that the children have become more stable in the grandparents’ home, and so the “harm of a change in environment for the children outweighs any advantages that may have now arisen to justify a change.”
Even if there HAS been a change in circumstances of the RIGHT person, the court should not change custody unless the change is in the child’s best interest AND one of the following is true:
(i) The residential parent agrees to a change in the residential parent or both parents under a shared parenting decree agree to a change in the designation of residential parent.
(ii) The child, with the consent of the residential parent or of both parents under a shared parenting decree, has been integrated into the family of the person seeking to become the residential parent.
(iii) The harm likely to be caused by a change of environment is outweighed by the advantages of the change of environment to the child.
What is a Change of Circumstances?
A “Change of Circumstances” in Utah Child Custody Cases requires that the court shall not modify a prior decree allocating parental rights and responsibilities for the care of children unless it finds, based on facts that have arisen since the prior decree or that were unknown to the court at the time of the prior decree, that a change has occurred in the circumstances of the child, the child’s residential parent, or either of the parents subject to a shared parenting decree, and that the modification is necessary to serve the best interest of the child. In applying these standards, the court shall retain the residential parent designated by the prior decree or the prior shared parenting decree, unless a modification is in the best interest of the child and one of the following applies: (i) The residential parent agrees to a change in the residential parent or both parents under a shared parenting decree agree to a change in the designation of residential parent. (ii) The child, with the consent of the residential parent or of both parents under a shared parenting decree, has been integrated into the family of the person seeking to become the residential parent. (iii) The harm likely to be caused by a change of environment is outweighed by the advantages of the change of environment to the child.
Utah law has several hurdles for a parent that wants to change custody, and the burden of proof is on the parent who wants the change.  As a custody lawyer, I can tell you, that this means you have to not only tell the court, but provide substantial evidence to the court to get what you want. The first step of these complicated requirements is generally that there must have been a change or circumstances based on facts that did not exist at the time of last custody order.  For the most part, the Utah Revised Code is silent about what is or is not a “change of circumstances”, and the answer is found in case law. Sounds simple, right?  Nope.  Case law varies among the appellate districts.  The best you can do is look at the case law, and which trends last over time.  The bottom line is that unless a court is directly violating a case precedent that has authority over that court, the court has a LOT of latitude to decide whether or not there has been a change in circumstances.
Military Parents and Change of Circumstances
One exception to this is that The court shall not find past, present, or possible future active military service in the uniformed services to constitute a change in circumstances justifying modification of a prior decree.  For more information about Utah active military members being deployed and custody, click this link to read our article about this subject.
youtube
So What is a Change of Circumstances?
What about non-military parents?  For those parents, what constitutes a change of circumstances is mostly a matter of case law.  There are a few issues that have gone to the supreme court of Utah, and those rulings apply to the whole state, but there are other issues that vary from one appellate district to another.
Moving and Change of Circumstances
There is a case where a trial court abuses its discretion when it modifies custody based solely upon evidence that the residential parent intends to leave the State of Utah with the child.  Supreme Court said it was unconscionable for a trial court to treat a parent’s desire to leave the state as a substantial change in circumstances.  However, in that case, the mother had not actually left the state, had only expressed an intention to leave.  A very different result may occur if the parent has already left.  When a parent moves, a child changes schools, loses peers, changes doctors and sometimes loses frequent access to relatives.  These are factors a court would consider.  Courts are not big fans of parents moving the child far away from the other parent.  Put simply – it’s complicated.
@memcriaes asked: you call THAT a PLAN ? (From Siri, WELCOME BACK!)
Tumblr media
        Obi-Wan blinks at Siri as if he is still processing her words. His plan seems fine enough to him, but then the seeds of doubt creep into the back of his mind. He can even feel them starting to bind around his chest as the Jedi attempts to school his expression into one of neutrality rather than upset.
Unfortunately for him, Siri always has a way of making Obi-Wan doubt himself, even if a plan is sound or not. ❝ I-Well...do you have a better idea? ❞ His words aren’t spoken in a defensive way, they come from the heart. His expression is earnest as he waits to hear Siri’s idea.
hxdrostorm asked: ❛ you already know how this will end. ❜ - Rex!
Tumblr media
            Rex’s words straighten his back and there’s a feral glint in his eyes as he offers the other a beaming smile. The General can taste the metallic tint of blood in his mouth, knowing that he had bit a considerable portion of the inside of his cheek when he had gotten thrown in the blast ( and it might even be coating his teeth a bit. Probably making him look like a crazed animal. ) Somehow, Obi-Wan had gotten separated from his men and ended up with the elite of the 501st.
❝ Come now, Captain! That sounds like you’re admitting defeat ! We’ve still got plenty fight left in us. ❞ His fingers flex instinctively around the hilt of the lightsaber as the buzz of adrenaline and life and death situations has the blood pumping in his ears.
@sxperflxity asked: ‘  i’m not the person you left behind anymore.  there’s no one here to miss.  ’ / from darth!anakin
Tumblr media
          Obi-Wan had thought Anakin dead for 10 years, had believed he killed his own brother, and yet that man stood before him more machine than man. And he knows Anakin Vader’s words ring true, but there is still that part of Obi-Wan that can feel Anakin deep down. That can pick out Anakin in a crowd amongst thousands and it tears him apart inside. There’s no more tears for him to shed - instead just a numbness that isn’t going to go away anytime soon.
( There’s still good in him. )
          Padmé’s words echo in the back of his head. No, she was wrong - Vader was right. Whoever stands before him now is not his brother, it is an entirely different person walking in his brother’s body.
❝ I’m sorry, ❞ is all he replies. Sorry for failing you. Sorry for not being there. Sorry for not finishing the job and making you into this monster. Sorry for surviving.
@retrocognizantrecreant asked:
Tumblr media
If they’re scared, who do they want comfort from? Does this answer change depending on the type of fear?
Even being a grown man with a Padawan of his own, Obi-Wan still seeks comfort from Qui-Gon when he’s scared. Despite their relationship being rocky, and him having changed how he saw his Master upon reflection as an adult, he cannot deny the safety that he would feel from Qui-Gon’s mere presence. At the beginning of Anakin’s apprenticeship, Obi-Wan was filled with a lot of fear, and would often meditate and talk to Qui-Gon as if he could hear - even if at that point he didn’t know that Qui-Gon could actually hear him.
But when Qui-Gon is not available he reaches out to the Force. As said in Obi-Wan Kenobi, the tv show, the Force to him is like a light in the darkness, it’s the feeling of flicking on the light after having a nightmare or hearing something alarming in the middle of the dark. And in a way, since Qui-Gon is one with the Force, he still gets the comfort from his old Master that he is looking for.
What’s something they’re expected to enjoy based on their hobbies / profession that they actually dislike / hate?
Honestly? I can’t think of anything. Obi-Wan is so stereotypical with the hobbies that are relaxing while also being an adrenaline junkie if that makes any sense? While he was younger, he often hated going to the archives mostly because he saw it as a punishment and as him doing something wrong, but as he got older he learned to appreciate learning and the amount of knowledge that the Coruscant Temple has. I suppose, the only thing that I can think of which is already acknowledged in canon is his dislike for flying.
For someone that is an exceptional pilot and his profession/lifestyle revolves around exploring and traveling the galaxy before the war and then eventually as the war starts and he becomes a general is expected to carry out dogfights and be on a ship for a majority of his time - he really does hate being on a ship. He loves being out amongst the stars, and he loves exploring but Obi-Wan really wishes he could do so without the cold impersonal metal of starships. They’re unfeeling to him - someone that sees the Force as a source of light, as stars and galaxies, and ever moving nebulae and cosmic dust. The metal of ships is uncomfortable. And then of course with his history of crashing and being shot at in ships, he has a lot of negative connotations with traveling.
Who would they say ‘yes’ to if invited to do something they abhorred / strongly didn’t want to do?
I think this depends on the situation. Obi-Wan is so ridiculously stubborn and set in his morals and principles. If it was something that went against his principles and that is why he abhors it then there would be no chance in hell of his participation. But if it’s something that he merely doesn’t like because it bothers him, or perhaps makes him slightly self conscious, he will put aside his own comforts for a loved one. He has done so many times in the case of Anakin’s hobbies growing up, and Obi-Wan is almost certain that Anakin saw his reluctance as disapproval of Anakin’s actions rather than the fact that Obi-Wan just didn’t like or enjoy something personally.
What phrases, pronunciations, or mannerisms did they pick up from someone / somewhere else?
Obi-Wan is quite the interesting character because he has such a specific way of speaking and yet, there’s no true source of his accent or his manner of speaking. The best I could assume, is that the Crechemaster that he grew up with had a Coruscanti Core accent. Additionally, there is proof that he spent a lot of time in the archives looking over prophecies and ancient texts for Qui-Gon as said in Claudia Gray’s Master and Apprentice. I like to think that he picked up Master Nu’s accent there as well because she has a Coruscanti Core accent, though a lot of his syntax and diction comes from all of his readings. At first it was from a desire to want to seem educated and more desirable because of his constantly being picked on as a child and looked over as a Padawan. Eventually, it just stuck and became his manner of speaking. However, he does often pay attention to others and how they speak as multiple times in the Clone Wars he would phrase something as someone else had phrased it by even mentioning that it was how someone worded it. I like to think that he is a little amalgam of everything he has picked up along the years, and yet that farce that he created as a kid to seem more mature, more desirable, and educated stuck because well....it worked. And a part of him knows he wouldn’t have become The Negotiator without that.
@lightfaithed asked: 9. Do they give tough love or gentle love most often? Which do they prefer to receive?
Tumblr media
          This is a great question, I think Obi-Wan is someone who is able to see what the person needs and what will help them thrive or learn from a situation - though note this does not include Anakin in anyway. Those two, I believe, will never truly be able to communicate effectively. But outside of that he’s good at changing his approach per person. For example, one such person he would give tough love to would be Quinlan. The two of them have a relationship in which Obi-Wan is comfortable letting Quin wreak his own destruction and learn from the event, meanwhile growing up with Bant, a sensitive soul, Obi-Wan is well aware that tough love would only hurt her immensely rather than help her in anyway.
As for receiving love, he prefers gentle love despite the fact he is most used to tough love. Growing up with Qui-Gon, his master was definitely a tough love person that would let Obi-Wan “learn for himself” and he wasn’t a man that was affectionate or one to offer kind words willingly unless he deemed necessary. ( And before anyone says the Jedi aren’t affectionate, YES THEY ARE !! Please read the High Republic materials, just because the Jedi that are on the forefront of the stories in the Skywalker saga does not mean that all Jedi were like that. ) That being said, Obi-Wan is a man deprived of gentle caring love and sometimes he just needs someone to offer a kind word, or a kind touch even if it’s not something that he knows he needs consciously.
[ @frcebalanced - anakin. ]: you call THAT a PLAN ?
Tumblr media
           It’s a sharp movement as Obi-Wan looks over at Anakin calling over the sounds of intense battle. There’s annoyance written all over his expression - at the battle and how horrifically bad it has turned out, but also at Anakin. It won’t last long, Obi-Wan can never really stay angry or annoyed at Anakin for long periods of time, but in the moment with the adrenaline pumping through his veins he cannot help but allow the emotion to flood through him and show on his face.
❝ Well do you have a better idea, ❞ he snarks back through the grit of his teeth as he parries more blaster bolts. ❝ At this point my priority is to the men, not winning the battle. ❞
