So. At some point in August, I started Kenshin's route. However, shortly before September, I paused due to school and started playing again recently. And.. I think I finally got to the bit of why people were warning me about Kenshin being Yandere. So... Spoiler warning!
In the second part of Ch. 8, Kenshin cuts down all the flowers in the garden. Why? Becasue one, a singular flower, pricked Mai. Now, I can see why. At this point, he's having constant nightmares of Mai dying and wants to protect her at all costs. But destroying flowers because of a little thorn? Yes, thorns hurt like hell (speaking from experience) but they heal.
Mai tries to justify it for herself that he's just traumatized by Isehime. But honestly? I can only see that ending badly if Kenshin does something even more drastic. After all, you can't use trauma as an excuse forever. I personally just remind myself that "its Kenshin. Being a yandere makes sense for him." As I have now stated more than once, I only hate Mitsuhide's romantic ending because being Yandere does NOT make sense there. Yandere is just one of those character types that only work if established and executed properly for me.
Here's the few screenshots I took this time around. Ive been trying to take less and less for the sake my storage lol.

I just finished the Ikesen manga, and I gotta talk about it or I’ll explode, sooo
~~~Nobunaga route/Sasuke spoilers below~~~
Tumblr media
It’s been ages since I read Nobunaga’s route, but I definitely didn’t consider how insanely painful it had to have been for Sasuke to train for 4 years to be able to protect Mai, only to watch her get stabbed right in front of him. And the only way to protect her after that was to run away.
He almost lost Kenshin AND Mai and I have feeeeelings 🥺
~~~
ALSO 👏 I’d like to say that I recommend the manga even if you’ve read Nobunaga’s route. It shows a lot of background scenes of the other suitors (coughcoughMitsuhidecough) which is very satisfying. The art is beautiful and the facial expressions are sooo so good.
And as a bonus for reading my silly post, here is a beautiful, moderately less-sad ninja:

I said I was gonna put together that Unrequited/Love Rival list for IkeSen and by the gods I am going to put it together! Shout out to @babyblue0t7 for reminding me (and sharing some info too) that I had made a post with the goal and intent to put together said list but got distracted by a multitude of things;;;; (and poor memory;;)
Also thank you to the Ikemen Discord server crew that I'm a part of, especially @sevenai & @veervers on said server, I appreciate the assist in helping me figure out who was who in these routes!
Everything will be under a read more and this originally started as me wanting to sate my curiosity over it. Reblogs for this is GREATLY appreciated over the likes as it'll help spread it as well as help anyone else who wants to sate their curiosity.
Bear in mind that, this list is going to be missing a few things and doesn't really fully contain anything involving the sequels & routes that have been released for the JP servers, the only sequel and unreleased route to EN will be tagged as such. My goal is to get mostly the main routes listed, and the sequel ones can be added onto the post or added in at a later date.
So the only "spoiler" is going to be crossed out, but from what was shared, that is in fact the rival.
Sasuke (Rival) -> Yukimura (Main)
Yukimura (Rival) -> Sasuke (Main)
Kennyo (Rival) -> Mitsunari (Main)
Yoshimoto (Rival) -> Mitsuhide (Main)
Mitsunari (Rival) -> Kenshin (Main)
Hideyoshi (Rival) -> Nobunaga (Main)
Nobunaga (Rival) -> Shingen (Main)
Ranmaru (Rival) -> Kennyo (Main)
Ranmaru (Rival) -> Yoshimoto (Main)
Kicho (Rival) -> Motonari (Main)
Kicho (Rival) -> Ieyasu (Sequel)
Kenshin (Rival) -> Ieyasu (Main)
Kenshin (Rival) -> Kanetsugu (Main)
Mitsuhide (Rival) -> Hideyoshi (Main)
Mitsuhide (Rival) -> Kicho (Main)
Ieyasu (Rival) -> Keiji (Main)
Ieyasu (Rival) -> Masamune (Main)
Right now we only have 5 suitors who have been listed in more than one route as a rival, though the current consensus we've managed to sus out is that well... Masamune hasn't been listed as a rival to anyone yet, as well as Kanetsugu (That I and the listed peeps aren't aware of yet, as some of us have yet to do some sequel routes).
However as I previously said, this isn't a 100% completed list as we still have more sequels to be released on top of one more route to be released via JP server.

otome game hot take... (spoilers for toma's route in amnesia memories)
toma's route wasn't even THAT bad. like... people were talking abt being like trauamatized from the cage scene but it really wasn't that bad ?? I was gen expecting some boyfriend to death strade type shit but no. he just drugs you and locks u up. yeah that's totally insane but considering the fact that the MC was ACTIVELY endangering herself by going outside it makes some sense. like duh too far but,, it really wasnt as bad as people made it out to be. maybe it's just cuz I'm real fucked up but that sounds great. a cage to sleep in? with a bunch of cute teddies?? a guy who loves me a lot??? hes willing to buy whatever to make me happy???? fuck yeah!!! am I missing smth or what. cuz that was maybe slightly over mild. these ppl are gonna have heart attacks out when they hear abt kenshin ikesen starting a war and killing a bunch of (innocent) people over the mc getting attacked LMAO...

WARNINGS: TW for talk of addiction/alcoholism and then also just a heads up that there will be lots of spoilers for Jin and Luke’s routes.
So I’ve talked before about how I don’t like Jin and why but I was recently thinking about him as I started reading Luke’s route again and it occurred to me that maybe part of the issue is just bad writing, like we also see with Leon, Silvio, Chevalier, and others. The most common source of bad writing in this series is mental health and I think that’s a big part of the issue with Jin. They do this thing with him and other characters like Silvio, or Kenshin from ikesen, where they make him The Guy Who Drinks A Lot and then refuse to acknowledge or write addiction because addiction is messy and unattractive. However, I think being messier, more mentally ill, and more pathetic is exactly what Jin needs (and also Silvio but this post isn’t about him) and I wanted to make a post exploring what alcoholic!Jin could look like and how it could change his character in what I see as a positive way.
First is the question of when this addiction would have started and what inciting incident may have pushed Jin into it, and then that also will affect how long he’s been struggling with it by the start of the story. Personally, I like the idea that it started with Bloodstained Rose Day because of all those messy, complicated emotions he probably would want to drown out. I like that idea mainly because it clearly shows not just actual remorse but also how his own life was destroyed by taking Layla’s, and that’s something we just never get in canon which has led to my issue of not being able to believe that his primary motivations around all that are actually good. With something like this, I feel like it would be easier to believe that he did what he thought was right, as best he could at the time but, after all that, is stuck questioning night and day if it was the right thing to do, which then sends him spiraling into mental illness.
The next thing is just what this would look like after ten years, or whatever other time frame if it were a different inciting incident. Keeping in mind that he would have the security of wealth and not having to worry about anything like homelessness, I think some of the main changes that would happen would be isolation from the others and then a gradual decrease in how well and how much he does his work. By the time Belle gets there, he could be lurking around in the shadows and having this sort of cryptid status within the palace as even servants never see him anymore. Also, if he gradually stops doing his work, I like the idea that Luke could be brought in not just for the Belle thing but also to start training to pick up that slack.
Now, one of the main things with mental illness is some level of insecurity about it, and I really want that dialed up with Jin. What I mean is that yeah, of course there would be stuff around worrying about what the people around him think of him as he struggles with this addiction and starts to change because of it, but also, specifically with him, it would soothe my soul for eternity if he had to deal with chronic whiskey dick too. I have this beautiful vision of him trying to drown his sorrows after BSRD and figuring out the hard way that, after a few days of hard drinking, he can’t get it up and then he’d probably try a few more times before being sufficiently embarrassed that he would just stop going out at all. Depending on how bad you want his insecurities to be, it would also be reasonable to include something about how, over time, as his schedule starts to fall apart as his responsibilities are dropped in favor of alcohol, he’d end up developing a gut and then could also be really insecure about that.
The reason I’m going off about all this stuff around insecurities is because all of that would significantly change his dynamic with Belle when she arrives and how he talks to her and everything. If he’s a reclusive alcoholic with crippling insecurities and pretty significant anxiety around the Belle process especially, he is going to be nothing like the cocky casanova we get in canon. Personally, I like this a lot better because I find it a whole lot easier to empathize with than canon Jin’s fuckery, but that’s just me. His arc would have to be hella deep with a ton of character work and it would be all about Belle digging into all his shit and then helping him process the BSRD stuff, bringing Luke in for closure on all of that, helping him heal his childhood trauma from his parents’ relationship. It could end with him deciding to get clean and not wanting her there for that whole messy process, so he’d send her home and ask her to wait for a year and that he would then come get her, which I think is a much less annoying way to do the endings we got with Jin’s route.
Overall, something like this would fix a lot of issues with his character — forced celibacy turning right into a monogamous relationship would mean I don’t have to watch him hit on women or drag Belle into town just to ditch her to go hit on women, having this all start with Bloodstained Rose Day would make his motives and feelings around that more believable, and it would provide better reasoning for some of the things that happen in canon. What I mean by that last point is that, in his route, it makes no sense for him to go to such lengths to force her to spend a lot of her time with him, given his anxieties around Belle, but, if he’s all isolated and mentally ill, that internal push-pull of craving human contact but being so afraid because of who she is makes that work. Also, I feel like his condition would mean that Clause 99 wouldn’t exist because, depending on when he added it in canon, he might have been out of commission by then in this version, which also would fix one of my biggest issues with Jin, so that’s cool.
Anyway, lmk what y’all think!
(Oh and I might make another post later about how ikepri fetishizes mental illness and how they won't tackle addiction because of that but idk.)

I love this man!!!
Tumblr media
It's been months since I last felt excited to play an otome! (I still haven't played Yoshimoto's route...)
I'm feeling so happy to play his route! I really liked him during Masamune's Sequel (he got me really interested) and when I got some spoilers last year about his route I knew I was going to love it. Bonus: there's a lot of Kenshin!!!
Now I've lots of stories to read because I kept entering collection events + buying epilogues without reading for IkeSen, IkeRev (before the end, still sad) and IkePri....

could i request a ikesen boys x thicc mc? like not really society's "fat" but hourglass? ( i know they'd be a lil surprised cause thats completely against asian beauty standards) ty! specifically motonari , nobunaga, masamune, and kenshin.please, but you can add more if you want if not thats okay!
Hi kawaiidumbass,
Thank you for sending an ask. 🙂
This is a little different from my normal writing style (I tend to stick with weird situational scenarios, rather than distinct MC characteristics), so I had to do some thinking and research.
Ikesen, aside from the occasional CGs with Mai, doesn't dwell at all on MC's appearance, aside from the fact that she has a beautiful smile. The warlords all believe she is "adorable," "cute," "beautiful" and some have gone on to attribute that to how passionate and brave she is in pursuing her dreams and ideals. No matter what MC looks like, the warlords adore her because she is who she is, passionate, idealistic, strong, and clever.
Anyway, that's just an overall general sense (warlord specific responses are below).
I've never been to Japan, so I don't really know what current "Asian beauty standards" are, but I've been an academic researcher in several fields, and I have library access to journal articles of all sorts. Which basically means, if someone says "Asian beauty standards" the first thing I am going to do is research what the beauty standards actually were in feudal Japan.
It's a compulsion.
Some things I have researched in the course of writing fanfic include, "what were the toilet facilities in Kasugayama," "what plants in Japan are poisonous?" "what kind of monkeys are native to Japan?" "What kind of fabrics would be available in Sengoku Japan? (which led me to the discovery that many samurai knew how to knit and did so in their down time)?" "how big were samurai's horses, and would they have had any access to European or Arabian breeds?" "What kind of mirrors were available to them?" "Did they have padlocks?"
...You get the idea.
Here's what I discovered were considered attractive/ and or trendy for women in 16th and 17th century Japan:
Floor length hair
Shaved off eyebrows (and then drawn in above their normal position)
White skin (cosmetically lightened)
Blackened teeth (covered in charcoal)
Red lips
plump figure (this is actually fairly common in many medieval societies, because there was an association between wealth and the ability to overindulge in food. It's really only been in the past 150 years that 'heroin chic' was, er, chic).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Therefore, based on the above research...
Nobunaga - Clearly this is a Princess from a wealthy clan. A rival clan? Perhaps even an enemy clan? Has she been sent to him as a spy? He might have her maids watch her correspondence, until it can be confirmed that she's not secretly sending information to her family. Once she's confirmed to be innocent, he thinks about potential dynastic marriage. It would be politically helpful to have a wealthy bride. Plus, of course, he adores her.
Masamune - This is an MC accustomed to being served fine foods, and likely has a vast and experienced palate. As a chef, he is intrigued... and challenged. Can he cook something that is better than anything she has ever eaten before? He might even quiz her on her favorite dishes, curious to learn about new cooking styles and ingredients. Oh, they can have so much fun together in the kitchen!
Motonari - [Note: route spoilers]. Clearly this woman has no idea what it is like to have been starving, what life is like for those in the lower classes. How can she criticize his plans for the world when she has never experienced starvation? Of course he finds her attractive and lively, but he has no patience for a spoiled rich girl who has had everything she ever wanted handed to her. Their arguments will be epic.
Kenshin - Will never believe that this woman is a simple seamstress. And given that he first meets her in Azuchi, he might immediately be suspicious that she is associated with the Oda. He does find her lovely and an interesting companion, but she would have to work much harder to gain his trust, because he thinks her story about being a servant is a lie. In fact... "to the dungeon with you, woman."

Kenshin, Leon and Vlad for the ask thing :)
Hewwo :) glad you're somehow curious about what i think of these boys. OH and for anyone else reading potential spoilers ahead!!!!
Kenshin
who? | only know their name | loathe | ugh | overrated | indifferent | dead | alive | just okay | cute | badass | my baby | hot | want to marry | favorite
I haven't played ikesen in ages and the only route I finished are Nobunaga's and Masamune's... soo i don't have any opinion on him. I do think his penchant for fighting/killing people is hilarious. Very good potential shonen anime antagonist i'd say.
also heard he locks you up? not usually into that behavior. HOWEVER.................... Trans King
now for the spoilers zone:
Leon
who? | only know their name | loathe | ugh | overrated underrated | indifferent | dead | alive | just okay | cute | badass | my baby | hot | want to marry | favorite | should've been a based character
His route doesn't do him justice in my opinion. I think he's perfect for some sort of a proper critique on feudalism...or something.............. but I'm asking too much from an otome game.
Could've been an amazing character, but I think the writers held back on the lore + relationship development with his other brothers because he's a starting character or something?? it sucks really. Like, you know how Clavis' route got a lot to do with Chev, Licht with Nokto, and Luke with Jin... etc. I feel like there's no connection with anyone else in Leon's route. Nokto shows up a lot but Leon doesn't really build anything with him. And his faction plays a role in the plot but it's not really a solid arc? He feels kinda disconnected with his brothers!
now THAT could've been interesting to explore given his backstory, but they didn't do that enough either. That's another thing. his backstory. I'm kinda tired of talking about it at this point but... bottom line, didn't really like how slavery is introduced and then never spoken about again. I never heard any other character's route explores it except Leon's. Makes it unnecessary (or implies that the other characters ignores it), because man, am I going to have to enjoy this romance game with slavery in the back of my mind? Especially since I like to write fics that explores the world/lore. I know there's a lot of other dark stuff going on in the game, but this is different for me
And like I said before, lore-wise his route didn't really add anything, except the slavery, that... doesn't even really matter in proceeding routes anyway.
Character-wise, he doesn't really make sense. He loves his brothers and the kingdom but as was shown in his flashback, he does not think that initially. There should've been a development shown where he goes from despising the royalty into... uh, let's say using his status to do what he thinks is right. I don't know. A lot is missing from him. He's got so much potential but imo they did him dirty
Anyway, bottom line bottom line, I want him to abolish the monarchy.
Vlad
who? | only know their name | loathe | ugh | underrated | indifferent | dead | alive | just okay | cute | badass | my baby | hot | want to marry | favorite |
I haven't read his route properly either, but I've heard enough. He KILLED wellington he's DEAD to me
I'm joking but, I think he's a underutilized villain. A lot of the routes before him hype him up a lot so I was expecting more evil. more schemin' and deceivin'. Perhaps more chaos? more.......irredeemable acts?
Also his motivation is what now? fixing the world by reviving old dead white men? alright, sus, but go on....
I'm Joking again but, yeah, from what i heard i jus expected more. but know what. I like the timey wimey stuff. and i love love his design tbh. if his route comes out in eng i may just read it. At the very least for the wellington KILLING scene. more wellesley deaths for character development PLEASE

Kennyo - Bee's Ikereview
spoilers
congratulations kennyo, you've replaced kenshin as my second favorite ikesen guy. (shingen is always number one)
this was such a good route, i honestly couldn't read it fast enough. the way his walls slowly started to fall around MC was so sweet and their relationship slowly starting to grow was so nice. it was very well written and you could see both obvious and subtle indications that he was slowly starting to feel that he could trust MC more.
The betrayal really stung, and i think that the way that he was hurt by MC then quickly spiraled because of it was some very well executed angst
and then i did read the dramatic route, but i always love when an ikesen guy goes to the future. it really opens up an avenue for a lot of sweet little romantic moments. and even as he was saving MC from a stab wound, she saved him from the destruction he was inflicting on himself.
he's honestly just such an interesting read because you can really see his struggle. at heart he's such a kind person, but then that that's been warped because he feels obligated to avenge everyone he lost out of his love for them. kind in theory, but it tears him a part
i believe it was the epilogue but the end with them together at the temple was also very nice. very domestic, and it shows just how far they've come, from being on opposite sides of a war to fostering peace together
