not super sure how much of a trope this is lol more of a prompt? but bkdk as spies tracking down a suspect at a party of some sort, and having to dance or fake date to get closer to the suspect? they end up losing the guy bc they r too lost in eachother’s eyes how unsurprisng <3

“Why are we doing this again?” Katsuki huffs as they walk into the crowded ballroom, decked out in his finest suit with Deku on his arm, “was there no better cover story?”

“Is dating me really that bad, Kacchan?” Deku smirks at him because he’s a cheeky little shit, “we don’t even have to do anything. It’s just for appearances.”

“You’re telling me two friends can’t go to a fucking gala together?”

“I mean, they can,” Deku shrugs, “but it would draw attention. And that’s like, exactly what we don’t want when we’re on an undercover mission, you know?”

“Yes, obviously I know,” Katsuki hisses, “don’t be like that, you fuck.”

“You started it,” Deku says, and then drags Katsuki farther into the room before he can start yelling. And sure, Katsuki thinks that dancing with Deku at a gala is a little weird and definitely not where he’d ever expected to be in his life. He and Deku had been partners since the beginning, rising to the top of the ranks of their organization as expert spies. They’re Kacchan and Deku, never one without the other. But in all their years of working together, they’ve somehow never really encountered a situation in which they’d have to pretend to be dating. But apparently going to a fancy gala is not a singles event, so here they are acting like a couple.

“Where the hell is she?” Katsuki hisses to himself as Deku snacks on whatever’s sitting at the food bar. He seems like he isn’t paying attention but Katsuki knows better; Deku’s just as observant distracted as he is when he’s focused. Katsuki, on the other hand, needs to actively observe things. Their target is a jewel thief who's been on the run for a few years, escaping capture every time someone goes after her. This time it’s Katsuki and Deku’s turn to catch her, and they’re confident they can.

“Right there, Kacchan!” Deku gasps through a mouthful of bread, pointing to the middle of the dance floor where a woman in a bejeweled mask is flitting between people to dance with. Katsuki narrows his eyes, that’s definitely her. Matches the description they’d gotten to a T. Deku springs into action, pulling Katsuki onto the dance floor. “I know you hate dancing, Kacchan,” Deku’s saying, “but we have to-”

“It literally doesn’t fucking matter if I hate dancing or not right now,” Katsuki stops some feet away from their target, positioning himself to dance, “we have shit to do, and we gotta do it by acting like a fucking couple and dancing and shit, right?”

Deku nods, placing one hand on Katsuki’s waist. “Right.”

Katsuki starts to lead, one hand on Deku’s shoulder and their other hands clasped together. Deku starts to lead and Katsuki lets him, since he doesn’t know shit about dancing. Sometimes it’s better to let Deku take the lead on things.

“She’s right fucking there,” Katsuki whispers, “we shouldn’t attack yet.”

“No,” Deku agrees, and when Katsuki turns from the thief to meet Deku’s gaze he finds himself distracted by the gleam in his eyes, “we should, uh, dance more.”

“Yeah,” Katsuki clears his throat, “dance more.”

And so they do, keeping eyes out for their target until they don’t. Deku spins Katsuki around and he ends up much closer than he was before, staring right into Deku’s eyes and unable to look away. Deku isn’t faring any better, cheeks flushed and a tiny smile spreading across his face. Katsuki doesn’t move back, just knocks their foreheads together, once, eliciting a giggle out of Deku. And then they keep dancing, still close enough to feel each other’s heartbeat quickening, until Katsuki curses.

“What?” Deku asks, alarmed. They’re still so close.

“We fucking lost her,” Katsuki jerks his head to an exit, where their target is just slipping through the door, “this is all because we fucking danced.”

“You can’t blame everything on dancing just because you don’t like it,” Deku says, and despite the situation there’s mirth in his eyes, because even though they lost their target they’ll catch up soon. They always win when they’re together.

“I sure as hell can,” Katsuki pulls Deku in the direction their target went, and Deku goes easily behind him, “now come on, Deku. We have a mission to finish.”

Deku nods, giving Katsuki a little salute. “Yes, Kacchan!”

thinking of bkdk in their late 40s when all their friends have already settled down with a family, izuku muses a lil forlornly how he would like to have someone to come home and katsuki just stares him dead in the eyes and says, "marry me then. i wont let you be lonely in that empty apartment."

the thing is bkdk are super successful heroes, they're the ranking no.1 and 2 and everyone knows their name but because izuku put so much effort into his career he never give himself the chance to meet someone and fall in love because the next things he know he's already 48 yrs old and still very single. as soon as he got right out of UA he had put himself right to work and hasn't truly stop since so izuku feels like he misses out on his youth, the flutter of first love, and now he feels like it's too late to grasp that chance again because he's too old to be stumbling around at love BUT here is katsuki suddenly telling izuku to marry him as though that would solve everything, solve izuku's worries and fears that he'll never experience love the way his friends had or knows what it feels to come home to a waiting arms that will comfort him after a hard day at work.

izuku first tries to laugh it off because katsuki cant be serious right?? but katsuki doesn't crack a single smile. "Do i look like im the type to joke about this kind shit to you?" he asks, voice steady and true. it is then that izuku realizes katsuki had meant every word he said.

but izuku still cant wrap his head around why would katsuki want to marry him of all things?? it is because they're both bachelor and wretchedly alone standing at the very top of their career where nobody can touch or hope to nobody can understand them like they do to each other?? izuku thinks that's a very dry reason to marry someone for the sake of convenience and not love at all because even though he'd devoted all his time to saving the world and helping ppl and HE'S OLD NOW but he still earnestly yearn to fall in love the ways all his friends had.

"If you needed company, we don't have to marry each other. I'm here for you always, you know that," izuku offers instead. "We're partners."

katsuki is silent briefly, then, he says, "You think i want to marry because you're convenience?"

Izuku blinks. "is that not it?"

"No," he says, all grave and serious, and for a moment izuku is breathless with realization.

"Oh," izuku replies, looking down at the table like it has all the answer in the world. "how long?"

"Since our third year at UA."

izuku jerks his head up, eyes wide with shock.

"what—I, wait, you can't mean that right?" he shakes his head as he flounders for the right words. they're both almost hitting their 50s now, so if it started in their third year then it would be 30 years of katsuki waiting for him, of pining over izuku and all that time was lost because of it.

katsuki press his lips into a thin line. "I have never lie to you."

"I—I'm not—" izuku flushes, because this wasn't anything he had plan for. who would anyway? no one would ever believe that katsuki has been in love with him for almost 30 years and izuku only found out about it now. even though katsuki has revealed the secret he has been hiding for 3 decades, izuku has no answer for him. he didn't notice katsuki's feelings for this long not because he chose to willfully ignore it but because he has never thought of katsuki in that light and that is the sad truth of it all. katsuki must have realizes that too because he doesn't press for more from izuku.

"i'm sorry," izuku says, mind racing to come up with a proper reply to katsuki's feelings because he deserves that much. "it's not you—"

Katsuki scowls. "shut the fuck up, don't even start that with me."

izuku quickly shuts his mouth, floundering for another reply that with save both of their feelings.

"Six months," katsuki says instead, eyes firm and never once dull since izuku has known him. "give me six months to convince you and if it doesn't work out we can get divorce then."

"you still want to marry me?!" izuku asks in disbelief. "shouldn't we like date first at least? isn't that how normal relationship work?!"

katsuki roll his eyes. "we co-own an agency, you have your toothbrush at my house, and we spent 18hrs out of 24 together almost everyday. our friends joke about us being a married to each other as much as to our work, we're each other's first emergency contact if something were to happen," he continues, straightforward like he's listing their grocery for today, "and i cant ever imagine wanting anyone more than i ever want you."

throughout this strange turn in their conversation, izuku realizes not once has he ever heard katsuki said he loves him but the way katsuki had revealed his unwavering devotion that lasts 3 decades and the dry, bluntness in which he spoken of wanting izuku, it's heavy. this hefty thing that katsuki has carried with him for nearly 3 decades, and in those years what izuku thought katsuki was just disinterest in any romantic connection because not once had izuku seen him look at another person, but it's because he has eyes only for izuku and nobody else.

izuku should have known never to expect anything less then 120% with katsuki because if there's anything that means something to katsuki, he would give it all and then some. it's humbling really, to be loved so fiercely and with such devotion that 3 decades is worth every second of it but izuku doesn't know if he's worth it especially when he's hesitant about his own murky feelings. he loves katsuki undoubtedly. they're partners in more way then one, but he doesn't know if he can love katsuki the way he deserves to be love in return, to return that same level of intensity.

"and what if the six months went by and there's nothing show for it?" izuku mumbles, hands clasp together under the table. i dont want to ruin this friendship of ours, he doesn't say. "what if you get bored with me and realized this isn't something you want now. what happen then?"

"you're stuck with me for life even if we get a divorce. i won't let you ever get rid of me either way," katsuki says, lips twitching with the slightest hint of amusement. "and if you're worry about me getting bored of you, don't. i fucking wont." It’s firm, assured, and completely sincere.

izuku thinks anybody with a half a brain at all would see this admirable man right in front of them with his unwavering affection and devotion that he had nurtured for 3 decades would be half way in love already, but izuku neither race or skip a beat; it remains dull and unmoved. maybe he's really too old to love like this. maybe, it's not that he's too busy to ever search for it like everyone else but because he has all the love for everyone but none ever hold a special place in his heart. for all of katsuki's sharp edges, his feelings burn ever so brightly while izuku has since been numb to his own emotions. to give too much to the world, to his job that he has never let himself fall freely and unconditionally. it's terrifying.

"what if i hurt you instead?" he says, quiet and severe. "what if in the end i couldn't return what you've given me?"

katsuki doesn't answer right away. the air around them tenses, threatening to suffocate them in the waiting silence. then a hand grab his and draws it toward katsuki's chest. "don't fucking underestimate me, idiot. i can and will make you fall in love with me in 6 months. 6 months is more than enough to make you realize what a fucking dumbass you have been the entire time for not taking notice of me while i have been looking at you for almost half of our life," he says with the cocky assurance that propelled him to the no. 2 position and beyond.

for the first time since this exchange had started and taken a strange, strange turn that left him his world shaken to its core, izuku's heart feels lighten. He stifles a giggle. "i still think we should date at least. marriage is maybe jumping the gun a little too soon."

"No." Katsuki's eyes narrow, and he squeezes izuku's hand firmly. "i'm not giving you any chance to escape from this. we can do all the dumb dating things you could ever want but we're getting marry first."

izuku tries to draw his hand back but katsuki remains undeterred. "Kacchan, please," he says. half begging for his hand back and half pleading against his insane idea. who in their right mind would ever marry first then date each other?! That's just not how it work! yet, katsuki is an unmovable fortress against increasing izuku's distress.

"deku," he says, thumb running across izuku's knuckles in a soothing circle, "give me this chance. let me prove it to you that i can do it. take this leap of faith with me and i won't disappoint you. trust me with your heart like you trust me with your life and i promise i will keep it safe."

izuku draws out a long, lingering breath that leaves his head heady with a dawning realization. "o-okay," he finally acquiesces, shaken with the knowledge that his heart suddenly doesn't feel safe at all for the first time in a long time in the hands of the man in front of him. bakugou katsuki is dangerous, but to the tender beat of his heart.

Katsuki's lips stretch upward into a small, precious smile that rarely see the light of day, leaving izuku breathless just for a moment. "we'll go get the marriage license tomorrow."

"tomorrow?!" izuku shrieks.

maybe he has been wrong all along, maybe you're never too old fall in love and experience it for the first time and that sometimes the things that matter the most to you are always worth the wait even if take 3 decades and katsuki always been more patient then people give him credits for.

i want horikoshi to have the balls for uraraka to actually get over her crush on deku. id like to see it happen. it would be refreshing, could give her the opportunity to finally grow out of her "poorly developed love interest" box. katsuki's plot has become a major deterrent to her developing relationship with deku whether you see bkdk as romantic or not and deku showing exactly 0 serious romantic interest in her doesn't help.

ppl say there's a double standard when it comes to ppl complaining about her character being focused solely around deku when katsuki is the same, but to me they're not the same at all.

first of all, most of the characters' developments are influenced by deku because he's the MC. that's what he's supposed to do.

katsuki's development in relation to deku makes sense because of their shared baggage and backstory. they've known each other for over a decade and katsuki's treatment of izuku is one of his character's biggest sins. meanwhile for uraraka, deku is a classmate she's known for less than a year.

katsuki does not develop solely around deku. he has a lot of important solo struggles and moments. his toxic relationship with weakness and failure, his friendships with kirishima, kaminari, todoroki, the remedial classes, getting kidnapped, kamino and his guilt over it, his relationships with all might and endeavor, his goals of being number one,etc. in fact i felt that up until the most recent arcs, he improved himself in the background first and foremost, and only recently has the focus shifted to his relationship with deku and what he's doing to improve it. he is also arguably the most transformative character for deku outside of like... all might. the impact these two have on each other is huge (that said i would like to see an arc of them separated)

uraraka is the opposite. up until aoyama pointed out her crush, she was a cool character with tons of potential. she was super transformative for deku as his first friend, the one who made deku into dekiru, and generally recognized him. in the sports festival she denies deku's help and thinks up her own cool strategy, a major moment for both her and bakugou. afterwards... i feel like im watching a pitiful version of sakura. yeah she has her moments with toga, but even those are deeply connected to izuku. and all of it is so one-sided. she does not do anything for him anymore. what better example than the JTA incident. insulting bakugou riled deku up so much he unlocked a whole new aspect of his quirk, and uraraka jumping on him wasn't enough to calm him down. his care for bakugou was greater than his care for her. it's honestly such a disservice to her, because even when she's trying she falls short compared to bakugou, who's one of the most complex and subtly developed characters in the series. todoroki has filled the secondary role she could've had as tertiary protagonist, and momo is a far more compelling female lead, has taken a major role in leading the class.

i cannot think of a single struggle of uraraka's character that was not connected in some way to deku even when that connection detracted from the struggle and made it a joke to watch. her best recent chapter was the one where she was solo saving people. give us more of that instead of forcing a relationship with izuku that's just not there. toga is faaaar more compelling to me than her.

And it's a shame because I think she could've been great.

I full believe that something behind the scenes is at play with Urarakas character

She was one of Horis first characters, she’s been around almost as long as Bakugo has, her character role was supposed to be someone who could keep up with and draw Deku out of his bubble and we can see that in action until just after the sports festival

I don’t think it’s just that Katsuki’s character took a larger role because Hori has said that he’s known that Katsuki was going to be a major influence on Deku and more than an antagonist since DvsK and Uraraka still retained her relevance and role long afte that

Other characters have taken back seats to Katsuki, like literally everyone but specifically Iida, Todoroki, and even Tokoyami have all lost some of their plot time to Katsuki despite being shown to be build a friendship with Deku.

Tokoyami obviously has suffered from that the most, Iida kinda dropped off the radar for a bit but it’s hinted here and there’s that he’s very much around and that he’s been busy taking up the mantle of Ingenium, Todo mange’s to be relevant to Katsuki’s growth as well as Deku’s so he stays in the game

But Uraraka has gotten none of that, the only time she’s shown anymore is to remind the audience that she has a crush on Deku.

She had a whole ass internship with Tsu and Nejire(one of the big three!) with Ryukyu(the number 9 hero!) and we saw like none of it

In fact we don’t see much of Tsu or Nejire when their plot intertwines with Urarakas, but both have received fun character plot boosts or small updates outside of her involvement.

It feels like Hori is avoiding her character tbh, like Uraraka has almost become a negative plot factor at this point.

The only thing I can really say that might explathe wedge is Uraraka disagreeing to go rescue Kacchan after which she kinda doubles down on getting over her crush, but it backfired and made her a little obsessive about it

But that hasn’t had the plot relevance to be the actual reason.

I think someone in the chain of command isn’t happy about Hori having such a focus on Deku and Kacchan at the same time as Uraraka tries to develop as a solo character, and it’s backed her character development into a corner by the default of Katsuki simply being a more important character to the overall story

Like maybe Hori just isn’t allowed to have her actually stop crushing even though it’s where her character is supposed to go and now she’s stuck in supporting cast love interest jail

Mrs.FlipPhone isn’t allowed to pass go or collect 200$, she gonna be poor and single Pringled until someone pays her bail 😔

Kiri definitely takes advantage of it and the worst thing is that it’s not even a fight cause with Kirishima’s quirk he’s completely immune to tickling (and also attempts at other types of attacks in general - explosions - to make him stop) so once he manages to get a hold of Bakugou and start tickling him all Bakugo can do is yell and cry-laugh and hate him a lot hahaha

Can we talk abt the fandom's lack of creativity when it comes to shipping? Almost everything is solely Dekubowl and that's cool and all but what about bakubowl? kamibowl? MOMOBOWL?? Like c'mon fandom there are more characters that need loving as well 😥

the dekubowl actually goes far back into fandom history. It was the fandom’s poor attempt to do damage control when it came to ships.

You have your sheith and your klance, your makoharu and your rinharu, your usuk with fruk. it’s bound to happen.

when this fandom was still an embryo i took a peak, and no one knew exactly what was going to be what. no one knew who these two big mlm couples would be, sincebnha escapes a bit the usual formula, and they didnt want to get into a fight. Most shippers came from relatively chill fandoms, so they thought it would work…

“We ship everything!” to avoid getting into fights. and well, it worked for a while.

turns out bnha got…a bit bigger than expected.

the dekubowl has been declining slowly as the entirety of the fandom went to each corner and it became obvious who the two big ships were. and even when the dekubowl has been milder now…you can see who exactly runs it. often tddks, who hate bakugou and just want him to lose lmao -i was one at some point shrugs-.

but since im a deku stan more than anything, i’m okay with it.

thats the main reason behind the dekubowl. its not an exclusion of characters, it’s more of a phenomena that was bound to happen somewhere, and bnha was the one place to a large enough cast, a lovable enough mc, and an undefined “partner” by the beginning of the series.

on itself its a very peculiar case lmao.

REGARDLESS -sorry for the tangent- the fandom really lacks creativity when it comes to ships.

This is coming from someone who was in the hetalia fandom way back when -throw stones at the end of the essay please- and let me tell you it’s falling incredibly short.

Back when fanfiction.net was a thing, you could only list one ship -TWO WHEN THE UPDATE WAS RELEASED and that was like…woooow-. So people would throw ANYTHING at you.

And that was a very pleasing way part of reading fics. You got to explore new ships, and could see the writer’s personal taste shine through. I liked it it was fun.

You’d have crack ship all the way through, everything was free game. You did have the “default ships package” but most people played around, and threw them out of the window. You’d have a myriad of ships in the background, and it was AWESOME

that’s why i hate it soooo much when they do this kind “default ships package” of thing in bnha. Always choosing the same things, always going through the same path.

it standardises things and i hate it.

i once read a very good tddk fic, because it had such wild ships i was having a BLAST with it. bakugou was dating kirishima and ochako, i think kaminari was dating sero, and tsuyu …i dont recall prob mina?…it was wild and i loved every second of it.

And i have the vague idea -dont take my word for it it’s expeculation more than anything- that it’s because of anti culture. it’s permeating in a very toxic way.

because you’re not allowed to ship this because its toxic, you’re not allowed to ship that because its straight, and you’re not allowed to ship what not because age gap, power dynamics, canon content, non canon content, it’s cliche, it’s ooc, it’s harmful for lgbt people, its stereotype it’s this, it’s that…

in voltron -for example- no one is allowed to ship ANYTHING other than klance. and because for some reason those shit holes are coming to bnha, they’re creating fear in the community. They don’t want you to ship anything other than what their “default ship package” has told you its okay.

that’s why everyone attacks you if you think ts*chako is bland. that’s why everyone thinks you’re weird if you ship hawksdeavor, that’s why everyone riots when you say you ship bkdk.

that’s why we can’t get more ships that the default ones.

this purity culture is killing creativity. i know artist that don’t want to draw stuff that isn’t “safe”. writers who don’t want to cross the line.

and its pretty damn awful.

for people who claim to be protecting and creating wholesomeness, they sure are killing creativity in here.

It also doesn’t help that bnha has underdeveloped characters and sexism keeps popping up in fandom, but that’s another can of worms and this response is already super long lol.
