any tips for starting running? what worked for you?
well i started-started when i was 4 and not in control of my own life choices lol. i have gone through off-periods with it as an adult and had to rebuild my conditioning, but i was trained so young that i genuinely have very little memory of learning a lot of the basic skills (pacing, form).
if you're starting from scratch i think the headline item is to establish enough of a habit that you build up the cardiovascular endurance and muscular strength that you want. there are no magic universal numbers here, but basically you're going to start by running really slowly (like the slowest pace possible to run at) for as long as you can sustain it. this will depend on your prior fitness level but will often be somewhere between like 1 and 5 minutes. then you walk, briskly but not with a speed goal, until you've caught your breath—usually a minute or two. then you repeat those intervals a few times. for most people a good goal for the first few walk/runs will be like 15–30 minutes total; you can always go shorter but be cautious of going really long right out of the gate because you can easily overdo it when you haven't learned your own limits yet.
this process feels very boring and pointless at first, but if you commit to doing it a few times a week, you'll start to notice it getting easier (in typical populations without cardiovascular conditions, the heart begins pumping more efficiently within a few weeks of introducing new activity). over time you can increase your run intervals (and eventually drop walk intervals), your speed, and your overall time per session. once you're comfortable with the basics, you can decide whether you have specific goals in mind: a certain distance, speed, difficult terrain, casual jogs around the block, &c. there are training plans you can look up for specific races (hal higdon is usually a first rec these days) though personally i don't use structured plans like that, even when i'm race training.
it's normal to have muscle soreness when introducing a new activity (usually peaking 2 days after a session) but if you're noticing other pain, stiffness, joint instability, &c—hold off on running unless and until you've addressed those issues. if you're hurting in a way that alters your form you're risking a really annoying cascade of biomechanical issues. speaking of: everybody's form looks a little different and it's generally best to just stick with what feels good; many problems with form are actually just caused by people trying to run further and faster than they're conditioned for (ie, not building enough of a base). but, you do want to watch out for overstriding (this is different to normal heelstriking, which many people do without issue), and keep your shoulders loose, core engaged, and arms swinging. you can really go down a lot of rabbit holes about 'correct' running form, but my honest advice is try not to overthink it, build up your running slowly over time, and your form will most likely settle however is most comfortable for you.
also don't run in shoes that fit poorly or are so old that the soles are visibly breaking down. most people don't need very fancy shoes, but a basic trainer with the right level of arch support and a good tread will make a big difference in terms of both comfort and long-term injury prevention.
finally i would just say: ymmv (literally), but there's a lot of 'advice' for runners of all stripes that's really focussed on tracking and numerical measures. this is not the only way to engage with the sport and ime it can really detract from your actual enjoyment, as well as your ability to pay attention to how you feel physically and to build skills like pacing. track and measure only insofar as it's helpful to whatever you're actually trying to accomplish; you don't need to shoot for x goal or achievement or time just because someone else did or because the number is there lol

On finnrey. Tbh I'm not a big SW fan (tho im still planning to watch the original trilogy cuz IK it's amazing), but my fam is and when TFA first released I was forced to go with my dad (don't remember why, just was). By the end a small part of me shipped Finnrey and was certain they'd be a thing. wasn't forced to attend the other 2 films, but from a YTer I learned of crazy Reylo fans and was so confused. Finnrey should be the main couple, not whatever the fuck Reylo is. Vent over lol
Oh, anon you're bringing back memoriesssssssssss
So I got into Star Wars in 2016 exclusively for the sequel trilogy because I heard there was a Black lead. I watched episodes 1-6 in order and LOVED the originals, though I wasn't too impressed with the prequels at the time.
TFA was already out, so after watching it I became a sequel stan waiting eagerly for TLJ, specifically for Finn, and I remember seeing fanart on Pinterest, clicking the link, and being brought to tumblr and discovering this website for the first time years before I actually made an account. I used to browse just for Finn fanart, Rey fanart, fanfiction... it was nice. But I remember there was a bit of Finn hate here and on reddit I didn't understand and some posts about how he was abusive and Kylo Ren was not and was healthier for Rey, and teenage me didn't truly get that at the time. I didn't truly flag it as racism (namely, people jumping to stick Finn with the "dangerous violent Black man" label) but it was big red flag for what was going to happen. TLJ came out, and I was disappointed that Finn was pushed aside for Kylo Ren. I came for the sequels because of the Black lead, not for the white villain. Why should I care about the emotions of a white space neonazi? But things got... so much worse. I remember Reylos calling Finn a coal boy. A dog. A monkey. The actor, John Boyega, spent years being harassed for "getting in the way" of their ship (and he'd already dealt with harassment earlier for having the audacity to be a Black male playing a lead in a big franchise, so this just added to that). Of course, when the actor received harassment in real life and the Reylos started calling the character a monkey, I knew by then it was racism, and I kind of just... stopped poking around on tumblr, Reddit, and even pinterest for sequel trilogy content. One of the people I remember calling out this behavior before I disengaged fully was @diversehighfantasy (check out her blog from the years Star Wars was coming out, from 2015-2019. She talked about the fandom's racism all the time) and she warned that unless fandom positively engaged with Finn more, his character would continue to be minimized as Disney, like all companies, is only after money and will promote whichever characters will bring in the most revenue. But white people (mainly, Reylos) didn't listen. And ofc, Finn was demoted even more in TROS.
Racist Reylos aside, I'd grown disillusioned with the sequel trilogy because, for all the prequel trilogy's weaknesses, it was very strong thematically, and I'd grown to love it for how it complemented the original trilogy. The original trilogy is amazing, but the prequels enhance the originals because the themes of the originals are truly compounded by knowing the full story, the full stakes, and Anakin's fleshed out character as revealed in the prequels. (I also watched The Clone Wars show which was AMAZING, and though I now prefer the prequels to the Clone Wars, the show played a great part in making me love the prequel era worldbuilding and characters and whatnot). The prequels and originals tell a full tale, and so between TLJ's release and TROS I was already feeling... iffy about the sequels walking back on that and the sequels essentially being a poorly made copy of the originals. When TROS came out and the movie completely sidelined Finn, the Black lead we were promised, to shove in a redemption for the white man who'd brutalized him and Rey over and over, and it spat on the face of the entire POINT of the prequels+original trilogy by, uh, having Rey do the thing she does (no spoilers :) ) instead of Anakin having fully completed the job in Return of the Jedi, I fully noped out.
The racists (both the Reylos and the people before them who freaked out over John Boyega having the audacity to be Black and exist in the Star Wars universe) got what they wanted--the white man took center stage, and the "dog", the "coal boy", the "monkey", was sidelined. And the themes of Star Wars and the entire point of the first 6 movies were utterly destroyed, with a variety of retcons and changes in the worldbuilding along the way (and if y'all know me by now you know I DESPISE retcons of any kind).
So for my own sanity, the sequels do not exist. Finn wasn't treated like that. The themes of the first 6 movies weren't walked back on and absolutely trashed as they were. Reylo is not thing, the racists didn't win, and life is good. It was basically an exercise in how I'd treat ACOMAF and all the other books after ACOTAR--they do not exist until I have to honestly critique them.
And frankly I could do it easier here and not for ACOTAR because they weren't technically made by the creator of Star Wars, George Lucas, so the sequels are essentially glorified fanfiction anyway.
Anyway: good on you for avoiding the mess the sequel trilogy ultimately became. I wish I could say the same :)

hi!! so i’m going to the carolina hurricanes vs new york islanders game this sunday and i am almost entirely clueless about either team (and most of the sport but your info post was so helpful) 😭
if there’s any fun facts or interesting things (even if it’s drama or the players being silly) you know about them i’d love to hear, especially the hurricanes since that’s my home team! i’m not sure how much you follow either team, so if you don’t know much or this is a silly question, feel free to ignore
sorry if this breaks hockey etiquette or anything 😭 i wouldn’t expect someone to ask me for fun facts about real madrid lol but you are the resident hockey mutual here so <3
hello lovely anon! first of all, thank you for this ask i am so honoured that you thought of me as the person to go to for these questions, i love it so much! mwah! not breaking much hockey etiquette, i just have to apologize because these teams aren't my team so im not an expert, i just did my best! second of all (before i answer fully lol), i just want to say a disclaimer! hockey isn't as popular in the us as it is in canada, so for some us teams there isn't a lot of information because people in the city are more interested in american football or basketball. unfortunately, raliegh is one of those places. i listened to like 3 hours of canes podcasts, read so many articles, and literally scoured the internet for canes content and i found almost nothing. bestie im so so sorry! i did my best! because there isn't a big fanbase, there isn't many people reporting on this team, many fanpages, or much info about silly moments or drama :( i did my best to give you an overview of the two teams, a crash course in live hockey, some helpful links to learn more about the canes, and some silly stuff about the islanders (because they have so much historical drama!) i hope you enjoy this post and your game bestie ily
Live hockey
when going to a live hockey game, there are a few things you need to know before you go! live hockey is more similar to american football than footie, because the stadiums are quite small so the games are quite catered to people who are watching at home. here are some basics specific to live hockey
there are 3 20 minute periods with 15 minute intermissions in between each. during this intermission, you get to see the zamboni, a machine that cleans the ice to make it hard and smooth before each period. during the period, there will be between 1 and 3 TV time outs, where play will pause for 2 or so minutes so that the ice ladies and gents can shovel the ice with shovels, because the snow builds up and makes it hard to skate. during this time, usually most stadiums do fun games (like kiss cam, lookalike cam, that type of thing) during this time to keep the audience engaged! (zamboni for reference!)
Tumblr media
if the game is still tied at the end, the game will go to overtime, and possibly the shootout. these are the best moments of the game! some people like to leave a bit early to beat traffic, but as long as the person/people you're going with agree, i would recommend staying the whole time. after a win, the team will come out onto the ice to celebrate with the fans (its similar but different from footie), and they will award the 3 stars of the night! its totally worth it to stay until the end
crowd atmosphere is so so different from every other sport. usually when watching hockey, everyone is sitting and just watching, there are some chants (idk the canes chants sorry!) but usually there isn't much crowd participation unless there's a goal. the game moves so quickly, you have to really focus to know whats going on (and the puck is small and hard to see it moving!)
watching the game: there are big jumbotrons in the middle of the rink that will show the score, the shots, how much time is left, and a recording of what is being showed from the tv cameras. it is so helpful to watch, especially when there is zoomed in shots. don't worry if you end up watching the jumbotron and the ice for equal amounts of time! i did that all the time as a kid because its honestly pretty hard to follow just looking at the ice unless you really know the game well
penalties! i know they are confusing, but when a player gets a penalty there will be an announcement for what the penalty is for (and who is on the power play), and the jumbotron will show a countdown of how long is left in the penalty! it is always fun to watch penalties, and you can pretty easily look up what each penalty means as they are announced
the night you're going is military appreciation night! i have no idea what this means lol. sorry! in canada we don't really do that sort of thing to the same degree, we did something for remembrance day but that is it lol. what i can sense from the website is that the canes will wear special jerseys for warmup, and they will probably have some military stuff throughout the night
2. overview of the teams
ok, so the hurricanes. hurricanes are doing very well this season, they have won 47 of their 74 games (as im writing this, they just lost their game tonight lol) and they have secured their spot in the stanley cup playoffs! they are at the top of their division, and they are looking to secure that spot by earning points in the remaining 8 games of the season. you are going to watch one of the last games of the season, and the goal for the canes will be to win to be confident going into the playoffs. strengths of the canes include their goaltending, their penalty kill (when they have one less player on the ice, they usually can prevent the other team from scoring) and their defence. weaknesses include scoring, they don't have a "star striker" that scores a bunch of goals, as their star striker recently got injured, and they also don't make the most of the power play (when the other team has one less man on the ice, they aren't consistent about taking advantage and scoring). here's my lil hurricanes summary for you (please ignore my messy writing i did my best)
Tumblr media
lets meet the opponent! the islanders are in a rocky position, as they are fighting two other teams for a wildcard spot into the playoffs. they need to win every game they can to get in. the islanders are hungry, at the trade deadline (transfer window in hockey) they bought a bunch of players to try and improve their squad for the playoffs. they have won 39 of 76 games, they are fourth in their division, and they want to book a trip to the playoffs so this game is crucial for them to win. i didn't do as much research about the islanders (again im so sorry!), but i know that a strength of the islanders is their goaltending, they have one of the best goalies in the league in sorokin. weaknesses, im sure they have many i just don't know what they are. here's my islanders summary (again, sorry about my writing)
Tumblr media
3. the lore
lou lamoriello. this guy is a character. he is old school hockey, he's over 80 years old, and he has been in the league forever. everything i hear from him seems like something either a cartoon villain or jose mourinho would say. he hates beards, and makes all his players shave when they are on his team. he won't let players wear high numbers because its not traditional. every quote he has is absolute gold because he could not care less about his public perception. he is his own boss, and you can tell because this man is unhinged. some gems include "i am not going to make a decision to make a decision," "i really wasn't thinking about it to tell you the truth," and "lets be careful how far we go with that"
islanders as a team. they are from long island, which is like new york's suburb cousin. they won the stanley cup 4 years in a row, set so many league records, and were thriving in the early 80s. then, they did nothing at all for almost 20 years and almost had to be relocated because their arena was literally, physically crumbling and the ice was warming up during games. iconic.
during this down era, random guy john spano tried to buy the team and almost succeeded. he faked bank statements and taxes stating he was a multi-millionaire, and he was the owner of the team for a few months. it wasn't successful, because he was really just a random small business owner from new york. the whole story is kind of unbelievable, there are many documentarties about it. this happened in the 90s. absolutely hilarious
bo horvat. bo horvat was the canucks captain for 3 years and he just got traded to the islanders in january. there's no lore here, i just love and miss bo horvat on the canucks. my heart broke when he left and i hope he's doing well
4. helpful links
because im not a canes expert, heres some useful resources for more information! this tiktok page is from a new canes fan as well, she goes to games and explains hockey as she learns it. her tiktoks are super helpful for info about the hurricanes game experience, and hockey for beginners! (i do my best but i think some of what i say doesn't make sense because some of this stuff ive known since i was little, so i can't explain it well. she does a way better job) and this podcast is helpful for game previews! they post a short 10 minute episode every day, so it is easy to keep up with and has lots of helpful canes specific information. other helpful pages are the carolina hurricanes social media, especially twitter and instagram. they will post pictures and gameday updates that will have info in them about the players, the lineups, and more fan content!
this is where you see that im a writer lol. im so sorry this is so long (and that there's so many footie references, im assuming you're a footie friend so if you're not im sorry)! i hope you find this helpful, this was super fun to make and write. i hope you enjoy your game, let me know how it goes! go canes (just for this one day for you, anon)!

why are you like this (pinned)
i made this blog specifically bc i get pissy abt things in this fandom and i wanna vent abt it publicly without being toxic on main, so uh. tone might get wack, but some things to keep in mind regardless:
1. we're discussing minecraft roleplay. there are serious themes but in the end its fiction-- even if i disagree w your takes or what you say upsets me, i dont think anyones a genuinely bad person irl for what they say about this bc its not about real people. id be a hypocrite if i didnt think that tbh, i have a different moral code in fiction than irl too.
2. do NOT seek out or harass anyone i discuss. in no cases do i support genuine death threats or sending hate. block and move on, make vague posts shitting on them, whatever: do not engage. im here to be toxic w myself and anyone else who consents to join me, not to make other areas of the fandom toxic. this is a special designated toxic area that has to self isolate and quarantine from the rest of the fandom.
3. im not planning on tagging character crit or hate*, sorry. not the blog for it, everything here is likely to be some level of crit or hate tbh (esp if its a toxic post)
*exception will apply to if i make the post and main tag it as well, so that it does not end up in the main tags untagged. reblogs however are fair game
4. if i add something onto a post, i have personally checked w that blog that they're okay w me adding onto it. again, im here to be shitty and toxic and most importantly i want that shit contained to only ppl who are okay with it.
5. If I rb something from you and you don’t want me to interact with you, send me a message. I will not be upset at all, I promise. again, contain and quarantine the bullshit is the goal.
more info on me n the blog under cut
posts tagged "toxic" are me being upset and emotional, knowingly ignoring some of the genuine nuance present in scenarios because im past the point of caring. i want to be a shitheel when i do that bc im tired of Not doing that ig yknow? block if you want, but i made this blog just to do so without being toxic as hell on my main bc i dont want to make that larger fandom experience Bad 👍 again, this is a tone tag not a post type
posts tagged "genuine" is me trying to be more fair and balanced. still gonna be biased tbh, but i wont be actively working from a point of bad faith unlike toxic posts. this is basically this blogs version of actual analysis and or IS actual analysis. again, this is a tone tag not a post type
"vagueblog" is for responding indirectly to posts id seen, can be either toxic or genuine. i'll try to clarify if its from twt or tumblr if i remember, but either way i'll likely have blocked whoever it comes from so if you see it its probably not ur take so you're good, dw. this is a post type, not a tone type
"analysis" is for actual analysis, mine or otherwise. heres where you go to get actual takes and not just frothing hatred pouring from every oraphace. this is a post type, not a tone type
"rb" is for reblogs, "og" for original posts
heres a quick chart showing my opinion on characters, but tldr; pro lmanberg crew, fuck doomsday crew sometimes minus phil 👍
Tumblr media
you can call me whatever, use whatever pronouns, idc! also if you know my main mcytblr account please... do not reference it here unless i do first. this is a safe space for me away from there and a safe space for my followers from my shit takes FJKDSLFJL

Lover
aka Love her
Before you read my analysis I would like to say that I’m gay. so is the song. if you think so too, then proceed along.
There will be three components to this analysis,
1. the lyrics
2. the video/visual
3. the song/melody/references to things
and how they all made the song gay so I don’t have to invest my gay in it like Hayley Kiyoko does with songs she likes.
Let’s start with the lyrics:
Verse 1 We could leave the Christmas lights up 'til January This is our place, we make the rules And there's a dazzling haze, a mysterious way about you dear Have I known you 20 seconds or 20 years?
The first line has a similar vibe to New Year’s Day. Not only are they celebrating special occasions together but also staying with each other on all the days in between said holidays. (i like to remind you about the christmas tree in ME mv)
The second lines hint at having a place (taylor’s tribeca loft) together which definitely makes it easier for Taylor and her lover (i love this rhyming phrase. a lot) to spend time together in private. No paparazzi means no possible media backlash. They don’t have to fear that strangers are watching, talking and screaming cause it happened before. (see hear: Wonderland)
Not only privacy, they could also “make the rules”. They don’t have to conform to societal pressures, such as whether to come out or to stay in the closet. In their house, (which is basically a multi-story closet) they could be free. Loving each other is never taboo or restricted. In fact, they could control the narrative, who truly knows them, by inviting them to their place. Like their closest friends and family.
Also:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Following the 2nd line analysis, I’m skipping the chorus (which i will touch on later) and going straight gay into verse 2.
Verse 2 We could let our friends crash in the living room This is our place, we make the call And I'm highly suspicious that everyone who sees you wants you I've loved you three summers now, honey, but I want 'em all
Again emphasis on making the rules and the call. Only they could choose who knows and who don’t. (Also Taylor and Karlie have more mutual friends with each other than Taylor and her “boyfriends”)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And also a little jealousy from Taylor. This is not unexpected since Karlie is stunting with J**h. There’s also an alleged wedding, so Taylor’s feelings are completely valid.
“Three summers” is an important piece of information because it gives us a timeline. Joe and Taylor started “dating” around uh... time for a google search.
PopSugar wrote
Tumblr media
But it doesn't make sense for Taylor to get into a relationship with Joe literally two weeks after she broke up with Tom unless he’s a rebound or a contract beard.
A verified contributor to TripAdvisor explained
Tumblr media
Let’s say Joe is a rebound but they started dating during fall. That means they only had two summers together at the very most.
So no. Joe is not a rebound which means...
Do you know who has more than three summers with Taylor? Karlie.
In fact, they met at 2013 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.
Ok, then what happened on 28 September 2016?
Since they had the Big Sur trip in 2014, I can safely say they were best friends.
As time passed, feelings would definitely be developed into something more.
“You’re my best friend” - You Are In Love, released on 27 October 2014
“I don’t want you like a best friend.” - Dress, released on 10 November 2017
“You're my, my, my, my lover” - Lover, released on 16 August 2019 (today!)
I will explain it as we go further. Now on to the long-awaited chorus.
Can I go where you go? Can we always be this close forever and ever? And ah, take me out, and take me home (Forever and ever) You're my, my, my, my lover
Taylor, like we all do, have questions. She uses this style of writing in her songs, (eg “are we out of the woods yet?” “isn’t it, delicate?” “who could stay?”), and it’s always in the chorus and usually repetitive.
The lyrics in the chorus are quite straightforward. And they are written that way because they provide such a simple frame to showcase such complex emotions.
“Can I go where you go?” shows so much longing and yearning to be with Karlie (and im so fucking soft for this). When you first hear this, the first thought that comes to your head is why can’t Taylor go where her lover go. Then the realisation hits you that if her lover was Joe going wherever he goes isn’t much of a problem but if Taylor’s lover is Karlie, a woman, that’s where all the complications lie. Homophobia, media backlash and people with nothing better to do would just create more hate towards both of them.
“Can we always be this close forever and forever?” This line has a implies that they are physically together and all is well. But then she worries about when is the next time she could be with Karlie again. Will it be a long time?
Metaphorically speaking, if when something big happens, will Karlie be distant from her.
The third line shows Taylor’s wildest dreams that one day they could go out together without any of the complications and when they are home together, Karlie will stay forever.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Left: Taylor and fireworks. Right: Karlie and Taylor and fireworks)
Welcome to Bridge City
Ladies and gentlemen, will you please stand? With every guitar string scar on my hand I take this magnetic force of a man to be my lover My heart’s been borrowed and yours has been blue All’s well that ends well to end up with you Swear to be overdramatic and true to my lover And you'll save all your dirtiest jokes for me And at every table, I'll save you a seat, lover
Remember you asked what happened on 28 September 2016?
2016 is most probably the worst year for Taylor in her career. Let say that she wrote reputation in late 2016 to early 2017. Since she not only writes about recent experiences but also nostalgia (and reputation is about finding TRUE love despite being hated by said people who has nothing better to do), it would be fitting to write about Karlie. More specifically, the realisation when she loves Karlie romantically.
In this city, the lyrics mimic a wedding speech said by the groom/bride. It is a common gesture to stand as the bride/groom says their wedding vows to each other.
The words “borrowed” and “blue” references to an old traditional wedding rhyme on what a bride should wear at her wedding:
“something old
something new
something borrowed
something blue
and a sixpence in her shoe.”
“All’s well that ends well” means that if the outcome of a situation is a happy one, it cancels out all of the unpleasantness faced on the journey. To Taylor, ending up with Karlie is the best possible outcome, and all the hardships will be worth it.
So it other words, marriage is something Taylor and her lover wants. Usually, before someone gets married, they are engaged. So I conclude that 28 September 2016, three summers ago, is the official anniversary of their engagement. (gasp in mock shock) (they might be engaged around August in Wyoming see Karlie insta)
Not to be worried, she will be overdramatic because drama loves her. And she will be TRUE to Karlie because what they have is TRUE love.
Tumblr media
(if you do not know what “all eyes on us” means click here)
In the lyric video, word “overdramatic” has a space in between. Over dramatic as if she’s finally going to stop being in the center of drama? (not that she can help it when drama loves her)
I love the phrase “dirtiest jokes” because it shows how comfortable they are with each other. (this is funny cause Taylor’s parents would leave the room just to not hear dress)
And now they are bound together by love, Taylor will always treat Karlie as her other half, hence saving a seat (beside her,  at the head/end of the table facing each other, etc), as they are of equal standing. Two halves of a whole. Yin and Yang.
Even with all the proof mentioned above, hets be like “but Taylor sang the magnetic force of a man.”
First of all, it’s a publicity stunt. She does it all the time (eg naming her song style)
Second,

3. Analysis on everything else
Lover is the complete opposite of The Archer. It has 1989 sounds with a county feel that make you feel soft with a tinge of sentimentality and wonder.
The lyrics are reputation styled which talks about TRUE love and contentment.
The bridge, in particular, is a glow up from speak now.
Also the usage of feminine terms of endearment such as babydoll, darling, dear, honey in her songs. I honestly cannot imagine taylor calling any of her “boyfriends” them.
(im just like god is a woman and her name is taylor swift)
Some fun facts that might blow your mind (click link):
-Track 3
-The length of Lover is 3:41. and 1:43 means i love you
-Why You Are In Love is not entirely about her friend’s perspective. Also
TLDR; Lover is a song about Taylor and Karlie’s wedding.
There’s a reason why the song (and the album) is called Lover and not Husband.
