It really shouldn't have taken this long to see a defense of Sarah in Canadian media after so many articles were written slandering her in the last two weeks. This was only published yesterday, the same day Sarah tweeted that her and her staff will be closing their office and working remotely due to the threats received.
So many supposed progressives that sat back and let her be attacked and harrassed including NDP leadership are responsible for this as well as the scumbags attacking her:
That standing up for Palestinians invites pushback is no secret. A report by Independent Jewish Voices Canada last October researching the repression faced by academics, students and Palestine solidarity activists, described the chilling effect of speaking up for Palestinian rights in the country. Journalists have spoken out about being silenced on this issue. Teachers have revealed a culture of fear keeping them from tackling Palestinian issues through an anti-oppression lens.
Just last week, an Ontario doctor was suspended from a Richmond Hill hospital and doxed after he posted views in support of Palestine on social media.
Before this latest Hamas attack, supporting Palestinians was too often falsely equated with antisemitism. Now it is also being equated to supporting terrorism.
The right-wing Israeli lobby group B’nai Brith asked the Halton school board to ban “clothing, signs, banners and flags that glorify Palestinian terror groups …” I can see not wanting a Hamas flag, but what is this overly broad category of “clothing” that the B’nai Brith now seeks to ban? Kuffiyehs worn by civilians?
After the Egyptian swimmer Abdelrahman Sameh dedicated his World Cup Gold medal to Palestinians this week, the Israel Swimming Association urged World Aquatics — swimming’s governing body — to “take action against swimmers who support terrorism.”
In the same vein, Doug Ford, the man who once needed to invoke his Jewish doctor, dentist and lawyer to fend off criticisms of antisemitism, first accused Jama of antisemitism. Then he wildly blamed the NDP for not holding Jama accountable for “publicly supporting the rape and murder of innocent Jewish people.”
That is an overreach by any stretch. The premier and his party, which desperately needs a distraction from the criminal investigation into the Greenbelt land swap, then sought to censure Jama, which would block her from asking questions of Ford in the legislature.
This is rank political opportunism that serves to quash dissent.
Jama’s threat to sue Ford represents the drawing of a line in the sand, a gauntlet thrown down and a sentiment that says: “Enough.”

Hi! Sorry to bother, but I'm worried because my mom is insisting on voting conservatives the next time voting comes around because she's convinced it would be the best choice for the economy (partially because last time our family voted liberal/ndp and now she's watching trudeau emptying the coffers as funding assistance to ukraine while the government is telling that they'll match canadian citizens in donations to our local wildfires) and she thinks that because conservatives would be less likely to use money outside of the country/etc that the economy would get better??? So i was wondering if anyone has ideas on what resources/routes to go down to try to show her that that's actually a pretty bad idea (regardless of who she's voting for i know im going to keep going for ndp, its just that she's also trying to change *my* mind and i'm tired)

I think the thing that scares me and others in Ontario abt voting ndp is that when ndp was in power tons of people literally lost jobs
Teachers salaries were frozen, something that still effects them today. People all over lost their jobs because of increased taxes on companies and bc of increased minimum wage.
Bad things happen when a party doesn’t fully consider all possibilities, which ndp doesn’t do when they say things like “well tax the rich more!” Like ya I love that idea
But ?? If the rich paid taxes we’d literally have a better economy lol. The thing about the rich is that they’re. Rich. They can afford lawyers. They can afford tax evasion. You can’t just tax the rich more because they?? Won’t?? Pay it?? Like historically they don’t and they won’t.
And a better minimum wage? Right away? I love it. But like why do ppl forget what happened just last year with Kathleen Wynn?? When she increased minimum wage and people were F I R E D. Companies don’t just become generous and go “oh ya I have to pay ppl more but I’ll just keep them more AND hire more!!” Nah they’re just not gonna hire anyone, and cut their losses by firing people. Which is. What. Happened.

is anyone else rlly scared abt the election like i hate trudeau and am a staunch leftist/anti liberal (plus our liberal party is shiiiiit) but im so scared its btwn libs and conservatives and bc of all this we're gonna end up w conservatives winning and i... like trump in 2016 all over again idk if we can take it, mainly idk if the planet can take it. i want the ndp to win but everyone acts like the only real votes are lib or conservative
Oh I am terrified to the bone. And more than that, I am so tired of feeling like I am a topic of debate and not factually a person deserving of rights.
But I can’t let that fear outweigh my moral conscience, so I’ll be voting NDP. And I’m not “splitting the vote,” we don’t have a two-party system, there wouldn’t be nearly as much fear if the Liberals actually went through with electoral reform like they promised, and the only way that’s going to actually change is if people stop acting like there are only two parties and get the NDP in. And that means not voting out of fear, but out of conscience.

⭐️Thoughts on the SNC Lavalin scandal?
OKAY so i have read as much as i think is necessary to answer this
i don’t honestly have many, it’s depressing, frustrating, and badly mishandled. in my opinion this is a solid example of anything under the guise of something vaguely left wing badly mishandling itself and throwing the election to the other side
frustrating
cus u know it’s not the ndp whomst are going to profit off of this
idk the whole concept just makes me really tired
the admin’s reaction to this genuinely could not have been worse
it’s just... bad politics overall
like if i had to guess it was catering to quebec but like guess what dipshit you’re not getting the quebec vote broadly and you don’t need it and the justice dept prosecuting corruption isn’t going to taint you so much in their eyes as to be any more unsalvageable than you already were to them because they hate your party!!!! but you know what you did neeD???? EVERYONE ELSE’S VOTE DIPSHIT
it obviuosly didn’t even work because now this is a massive corruption scandal and the words “liberal corruption scandal” fly off the quebecois tongue easier than “tabernac” ffs
like holy shit after ford won in ON you’d think he’d be more conscious of optics and propriety?????????? jesus christ im furious
this is exactly how harper had 11 years you fucking corporatist bag of dicks
idk my thoughts are officially incoherent babbling and sadness at our loss of prestige on the international stage, as well as trepidation at the coming election and a renewed desire to get into politics so i can slap other ppls hands away from the wheel

okay so there’s a big provincial election tomorrow and people are doing cold calls and i got a phone call from the NDP (I guess they figured the young student demographic is their best shot at winning bc he asked for me by name, and im not the homeowner) and the dude went through the whole spiel and when he asked if they could “count on my vote” i lied and said yes bc im tired and sick with a cold and i really didn’t want to continue this conversation
BUT NOW I FEEL BAD
I KNOW THAT’S RIDICULOUS, BUT *I* AM ALSO RIDICULOUS

like general rule, don’t bring up politics to retail workers
doubly so if they are outside of a 10 year age gap from you

Genuinely feel like one of the reasons Ford won is because hes so much more well known than the other candidates AND the fact that tories actually reach out to voters. Ive gotten texts and calls from these people and they were the first ones to put their signs back up in our riding after the storm destroyed everything. (For the federal election I even got a letter adressed to me from Otoole telling me how much he cares about protecting my rights as a woman??? Which was very random because im the only one in my family who has never voted conservative, also i'm not a woman but go off clown)
Ive gotten NOTHING from NDP, the liberal MP has sent us a pamphlet a few weeks ago but nothing from our local provincial guy. Wait no, I did get something from NDP, a phonecall in the evening that i missed because i was out. But by that point more than half the day has passed and yes im bitter because this felt like a panicked afterthought, where were you literally any day BEFORE 5pm on election day?
Im also beyond tired of parties releasing adverts where they tell you why not to vote for the opposition. I KNOW why I dont want to vote for Ford, i dont need you to tell me, all youre doing is making me not want to vote for you.
Its like going to a restaurant to eat and instead of a menu they give you a list of health violations their competitors have accrued. Thats not why im here.
Tell me why i should be voting for YOU. Tell me who YOU are, and what YOURE going to do for ME. And if youre so intent on smearing the opposition tell me why your plan is better than theirs.
I know the solution to this is going out and doing your own research, but the problem is most voters dont do that. Ive been reached to out to by tories more than any other party and thats a big problem.
My parents decided against voting (despite my best attempts to convince them otherwise) because they felt disgusted by all the candidates and didnt want to vote for anyone. Well guess what assholes, we're stuck here now. Hope youre happy.
Anyway, violent reminder to harass your reps about OHIP and everything else. Please please please dont let it get worse than it already has. Email, call, do whatever you gotta do. Get your friends and family and coworkers to do it, create email templates and have people fill them out and send them. Just do SOMETHING!!!

dont get me wrong im voting for the ndp and urging as many people i can to do the same, but its so fucking frustrating and exhausing seeing their platform and knowing what is so close to being in our grasp, but so many people write off as "unfeasible" so they wont even try to attain it. so so many things could be fixed by the ndp and SO many people say they want these things, but despite what they claim they wont even do the bare minimum to try and get them. im so tired of knowing what we could have, i want to actually have it. heres to hoping for a real change this time around.

in the last fed. election we had NDP supporters strategically voting liberal to avoid another harper govt and look where it got us. now, ppl are literally using the same logic to keep the liberals in power when it will get us nowhere! i still remember you telling ppl not to get our hopes up with a trudeau gov't back in 2015 and it's so sad that we're literally in the same situation now... im just really tired of these asks you're receiving and seeing the same replicated across social media lol.
