Out of our entire Japan itinerary, I was most looking forward to biking the Shimanami Kaido, a ~75km route across 6 bridges and islands from Onomichi to Imabari. In short, it did not disappoint (even taking into account the on-and-off rain throughout the afternoon).
We rode through cherry blossom-lined roads, passed by citrus groves, whizzed along the coastline, admired various traditional houses, and climbed many hills to get up to the bridges. I especially loved the last bridge which was 6km long and spanned over multiple small islands - it was super beautiful and mystical with the rain. I also highly enjoyed our late lunch at a Lawson with delicious instant noodles 😋.
The only downside? I fell!! Argh! During Elfstedentocht I fell at around the 20km mark; this time I fell off 5.5km in 😂. So there's something about me, long bike rides, and falling at around the 8% mark. I also bloodied the exact same knee in the exact same spot - so much for my scar healing nicely 🤣. I literally toppled over from a stopped position, getting down from a curb and clipping the edge. Rob said I have highly developed language skills and underdeveloped spatial skills - I may have to reluctantly agree with his assessment!

Post-workout conbini haul! Lemon sour, two packs of the food topping goo Iggy goes crazy for, tough gummies in “grapey punch” flavor for the husband, and impulse buy: Pride hand towel that was always sold out last year. Gummies are great, booze is good, doggo *loves* the goo, haven’t used the towel yet but Imabari cotton is supposed to be make the best towels!
