an unpopular opinion, but the most frustrating thing about those posts about makeups are the comments usually from women talking about how empowering makeup is for them.

its one thing to wear makeup as a way to express yourself. using makeup, not in the typical function, but as an art on your body. thats expressive. its decorative. its a part of your outfit. part of you.

but the makeup that is exploitative. the foundations and the corrective kinds. the lip plumbers or whatever they are called. the kind of makeup used to cover up blemishes and dark circles and anything society deems wrong for women to have. contouring your natural face shape to look a certain way because society expects you to. or its the latest trend on tiktok.

the beauty industry tells you these lies, make you feel insecure about your natural face, and then make a profit off of it.

i don’t see the empowerment. the beauty industry is biting your hand and in return, you keep feeding it, thinking its helping you.
