Louisiana already has trigger laws to ban abortion statewide should Roe v. Wade be overturned. HB813 looks to take things a step further to classify a person as the moment an egg is fertilized. It would provide the unborn fetus the same protections as someone who has been born and classify abortion as murder.

Some fear this could lead to charges against women for homicide or battery in cases of miscarriage or in fertility treatments like IVF. In IVF treatments an egg is taken from the woman and fertilized by doctors. Then the egg is placed back into the uterus in hopes to begin a pregnancy. One attorney shared her struggle with the first fertilized egg not taking and not becoming a valid pregnancy.
“This bill would give those cells personhood. Such that anything that happens to them after could give rise to criminal prosecution. This criminalizes IVF,” said Sarah Omojola, a New Orleans attorney.

Some also said the bill could have repercussions for use of birth control since it slows down ovulation to prevent fertilization or the bill could prevent women from getting life-saving care if it jeopardizes a fetus.

Pregnancy after 7 years of infertility was a lot, but the greatest experience of my life. I was incredibly fortunate to have a fairly complication free experience. We had some issues with fetal movement towards the end but with frequent NSTs we were comfortable going to 40+6 weeks gestation. My symptoms were mild and I was able to enjoy every trimester.
Our only really big scare was me contracting COVID during my 38th week of pregnancy and Stephen contracting it from me despite our best efforts at isolation. Going into labor with a positive case myself, or my partner, would really impact if he could be present with me during the labor. It was incredibly worrisome but we both recovered without too much drama and passed the 14 days before I went into labor.

18 weeks and I failed my 3 hour glucose tolerance test. I'm not at all surprised, it just sucks to have gestational diabetes this early. Oh well, time to switch up the diet and try to get more exercise in.
Otherwise, pregnancy is going well! 2.5 weeks until we find out gender... I'm so excited to know! I need to figure out if I'm sorting girl clothes to sell or if I'm sorting and cleaning. Either way, it's gonna be a mess.
Bulldozer still has to expose my entire belly to "see" the baby. It's adorable. She'll also try to hand me the doppler randomly. She's gonna be a great big sister right up until she gets mad that she has to share me with the baby.
I'm feeling a little bit of movement from baby. I'll feel a couple little thumps and then nothing for days. Just enough to make me feel like I'm going crazy.

Quick note, they've been trying to ban IVF. It was in the Republican handbook during 2012 and some states are still looking to do that.
Which I think is fucked up.
IVF is a choice many people will make to have children. Its a choice they want to ban.
So basically: unwanted pregnancy- you have to, rape-you have to, incest-you have to , IVF- you can't.
