Mornings were always dreaded by you, it meant that you had to get dressed and attend the boring classes that royals were forced to. Etiquette, politics, foreign affairs, literature, and the most dreaded mathematics. But today was different you’d be taking a break from your usual routine and instead you’d be going to Rosaria with parents. It was on the pretense of it being for solely political matters but of course you’d be taking advantage of it fully being able to see your most bestest of friends—Joshua Rosfield. Oh, and of course there was Clive and Jill there also but then we’re just your friends no one had the bond you and the Phoenix shared. It didn’t take long before the maids fluttered in quickly pulling you out of your soft warm bed.
“Lady _____, must you sleep so crazily? I had braided your hair to perfection last night and now your hair looks like a wild chocobos nest!” The middle aged maid scolded as she began to run a brush through your tangled hair. Wincing as the brush got caught on a knot you whined, “Miss Tatiana you’re being too rough!” You cried but the maid known as Tatiana ignored your pleas. “You’ve always had the wildest of hairs ever since you were a baby, so you should be used to it by now.” She clicked her tongue. Finally after some more pain you were relieved from the torment of having your hair brushed, “You need to look presentable for the Rosfields _____.” Tatiana said as she finished your pigtail braids tying a dainty white ribbon to the ends. Jumping out of her grasp you spun on your heel facing her, “It’s a three day wagon ride anyways! My hair well look like a mess by tonight.” You said matter of factly a proud smirk playing your plump lips. But the greying maid ignored you as she began to pull out a dress from a wardrobe, “Come child put this on.” She said motioning you with her hands to come to her.
Finally you were dressed in a simple yet elegant pale pink dress that fell a few inches below your knees paired with leather boots it was time to go find your parents. Tatiana waving you off so she could  finish  packing for the trip. Humming contently as you walked down the halls searching for your parents. “Excuse me, have you seen me father and mother ?” You asked a branded man. “O-oh yes Lady _____, they are outside in the courtyard!” The nervous branded man said. You never understood why branded acted so scared of you. Surely you weren’t that mean or ugly, right? You nodded a frown replacing your smile, “Alrighty thanks! Also I don’t believe I’ve seen you around before. What’s your name?” You asked curiously. The man shifted uncomfortably his eyes darting across the corridor as knights watched him closely from afar though you were oblivious to it all. “It’s..it’s Da-“ but before he could answer you shouting was heard from down the hall.
Your mother’s screeching echoed through the corridor, “_____ get here this instant!” She stormed towards you placing a strong grip on your arm as she yanked you away from the branded man, “And you why are you just standing around! Go you have a job to do!” She shouted at the branded who quickly scurried away bowing and apologizing the whole time. Your mother’s grasp was tight and you let out a cry, “Mummy stop you’re hurtin me!” You whimpered pulling away from her grip. Your mother turned to face you a look of fear on her face, “He didn’t hurt you right or say anything to upset you?” She asked leaning down to wipe the corners of your watery eyes. Her intense amber eyes stared into yours thin black brows knitted together in concern. Shaking your head you pushed her hands from your face, “I’m okay mum, I was jus askin him his name and where you two were. Please don’t punish him he didn’t do nothin’.” You pleaded with your mother. She sighed standing up, “Nothing will happen to him. But you shouldn’t speak to bearers dear it looks bad.” She scolded you half heartedly. But why was it bad weren’t they just people also?
~•••~
You laid your head against the glass window of the carriage, pale grey eyes staring absentmindedly out the window eyelids heavy due to boredom. You hated road trips and wished you could just teleport to Rosaria. traveling from the Crystalline Dominion all the way to the other side of Storm was boring all the scenery looked the same, the random Imperial checkpoints the caravan would be forced to stop at it was boring. How much longer was it until you’d arrive? Until you could see your dear friends. Then without notice the carriage abruptly stopped, your head bouncing off the window. Wincing you rubbed your temple your mother already quickly wrapping her arms around you, “My dear are you okay?” She asked. Reaching over she slid down the window sticking her head out, “You bearer, conjure some ice for me.” She commanded snapping her fingers. “Yes Lady Marianne!” the bearer soldier said quickly conjuring a small shard of ice and handing it to your mother. She placed the ice against your temple, the sudden coldness sending a shiver down your spine she replaced her hand with yours telling you to hold it in place and stay put while she investigated.
Muffled talking was all you heard, you looked out the window once again looking at the scenery. Huh this was a knew route…you thought to yourself. Curiosity took ahold of you as you slid the carriage door open, your bare feet hitting the rough gravel road. Turning your attention towards your mother and father talking at the front of the caravan you then noticed there seemed to some hold up. “…I don’t care that a carriage was overturned were already a day behind let’s move on. Leave some soldiers with them and we get a move on.” Your mother said obviously annoyed at whatever had happened up ahead. Your father smiled rubbing the back of his head as he took on your mother’s wrath, “My dear Marianne we can’t do that…” you stopped listening at that point uninterested in their banter. It seemed like you’d be here for some time so you might as well walk around for a bit, you wouldn’t wander far. Grabbing you boots with one hand you used your feet to slip the shoes on your hand still grasping the slowly melting ice shard. Glancing around you made sure now one was looking before you trotted off just barely out of sight of the caravan.
You sang quietly to yourself as you rummaged through the foliage near a riverbank. You could still faintly hear chattering and cooing from the chocobos from the caravan so you weren’t too far. The ice had completely melted now leaving your hands wet but you didn’t mind as you plucked a few wildflowers from the ground. It was then something caught your eye from further down the riverbank, a shiny object glistening in the sun. Quickly you rushed towards the object, paying no mind to the lingering danger just beyond the brush. “Ah ha!” You mumbled under your breath as you came upon the shiny object. It looked as if it was something from the Ancients whatever it was you were pleased quickly shoving it in your pocket. Joshua is going to be so jealous! You thought to yourself a content smile playing on your lips. As you turned around to make your way back to the caravan before anyone noticed you heard a twig snap catching your attention. Goosebumps littered your skin as you froze in place. “Hello?” You called out quietly scanning the tree line. A primal like fear overtook your senses but before you could run away a wild lone hound raced out from the tree line making its way towards you. A scream left your mouth just as the hound pounced on your swiping it paw across your cheek but just as quick as the hound jumped on you it was thrown off of you.
“______! Are you okay?!” You heard your father shout as he finished off the hound he rushed towards you dropping his sword by his side as he wrapped his arms around you. “Fuck ______ your face!” He grimaced pulling a handkerchief out of shirt pocket dabbing your face. It was then you felt the stinging sensation and then warm liquid run down your cheek. This truly was an unlucky trip for you.

Love...you did not understand the full meaning of that word when you were a child nor did Joshua Rosfield. You would tell one another how much you loved each other but never knew the full weight those words carried. So much happiness was shared between you two. Innocent childhood romance blossomed between you and the Phoenix. It was rumored you'd be married into the Rosfield family. Dominant of Leviathan married to the Dominant of the Phoenix; a prince of Rosaria and princess of the Crystalline Dominion. You hadn't fully understood what marriage meant instead you saw it as a chance for you two to never be apart. The last time you saw Joshua was the night before he left to go to the Phoenix Gate. You made a pinky promise to him you'd come see him again soon but alas that promise would never be fulfilled. It was not until your dearest friend—love left your life when you were but a mere nine years old. It was like a dagger in your heart you barely hard time to process your grief before the news had spread across Valisthea that the Phoenix had died; but to you Joshua Rosfield was more than the Dominant of the Phoenix he was you're only truest dearest friend and the love of your life.
A great sorrow soon followed once you learned the news of Joshua's fate. It seemed like your parents did not care—were incapable of dealing with your immense grief. Only months passed before your parents told you that you'd be married to the Prince of Sanbreque; it was political marriage to help protect the Dominion; no it was to protect your parents pride. You, the Dominion of Levithan were to be married off to the Dominant of Bahamet; your young mind did not understand what exactly was being said to you until you were on a carriage riding off to Oriflamme. Screaming and cries followed behind your wake as you begged for your parents to save you, of course it never came. Oriflamme was a grim place despite its beauty you wanted nothing more than to pass away and live alongside Joshua in the afterlife. Prince Dion seemed to sympathize with you but you closed off your heart to not allow anyone else in despite Dion's kindness towards you.
~•••~
After a particularly hard day you stumbled out of your room onto the private balcony that laid just outside your uncomfortable room. You sobbed uncontrollably as you climbed on top of the way railing shakily standing to you feet as hot tears streamed down your young face. You maintained your balance as you took in your surroundings. Drake's Head blue hue glowed warmly against your soft skin in the dark night. Oriflamme was beautiful but it was no place you wished to be. You wanted nothing more than to die. End this nightmarish life you had been forced to live. Stepping closer to edge you looked down. You were dozens of stories above the city, it would be painless death no doubt. Taking a deep breath you accept your death and stepped off the edge closing your eyes tightly. You waited and waited for death's sweet merciful embrace—for the wind to flow through your hair wildly as you fell to the ground but yet it never came. Instead you felt a tight grip on your wrist, you toppling backwards into a firm chest. "Please _____, don't do that. He wouldn't want you to do that." A gentle voice begged. You turned around to see who had damned you. Your ____ eyes met gentle teary amber hued ones. It was Prince Dion. "W..why?" You cried out. Dion shook his head, "I know things are hard for you right now but in time your heart will heal. I'll always be here for you." He smiled softly. You sobbed collapsing into his arms.
Years passed and Dion's words had not come true yet; your heart still ached but you only got better at masking the pain that haunted you. Dion and Terence quickly became your main support system, they were really the only people who you could trust and rely on. You had become a respected solider, fighting alongside the Dragoons and using your Dominant abilities whenever required. The people of the Holy Empire had come to finally adore you. they no longer saw you as an outsider or just a weapon to further the Empire's power; you were the beloved Princess of Sanbreque to be married to the beloved Prince Dion. Your kindness was know far throughout Storm.
It did not take long for your reputation to spread all the way to Dhalmekia. Joshua had been keeping up with your life as best as he could. He was alive and longed to see you once again but knew he couldn't expose his identity. So he lurked in the shadows getting information about how you were doing from second hand sources. It was barely enough to satisfy him but it was enough for the time being. When word about you had spread to a small Dhalmekian village he was passing through he perked up eavesdropping into the conversation between two merchants. "Princess _______ she's a good girl but she's a fool fighting for the Empire. Doesn't she know that Lord Kupka would destroy her? She's challenging him right now on the boarder." The gruff merchant spoke. "Ha! When I was passing through Sanbreque I got stopped by the boarder guards for lookin suspicious. But the Princess was there and told the guards to leave me alone I just had food. So the guards let me go. The damn bitch didn't realize I was carrying weapons for our soldiers. She's an idiot lettin me through." The scruffy merchant laughed loudly the other laughing with him. Joshua felt his blood boiling hearing them talk about you in that way. He marched over, "Don't talk about her like that!" He shouted angrily his fists clenching. The two merchants exchanged a look with one another before turning back to him laughing, "Or what boy? she your girlfriend or somethin? You look like you can barely hold a sword!" They laughed. Joshua without thinking punched one of the merchants across the face sending the man stumbling back. And before Joshua knew it he was fighting multiple men. The market ensued into chaos as they fought. Joshua easily outmaneuvering the older merchants knocking them to the ground. It wasn't until a scream broke the crowd causing them all to stop. "Stop it! You're making yourself look awful!" Jote shouted as she ran into the crowd pulling Joshua out. Jote shouted apologetically as she guided them to their chocobos before the pair quickly left town and did not stop until they were back into Sanbreque territory by then it was nightfall.
After much scolding from Jote as she patched up his wounds Joshua finally spoke. "Jote they were calling ______ degrading names. I couldn't stand by." He tried defending his actions. The brunette shook her head as she finished bandaging his knuckles, "I understand where you are coming from Your Highness but you mustn't act so recklessly. Things could of turned out bad back there." She sighed softly. Joshua frowned, "Yes but—"
"No buts your highness. Just use restraint next time." Jote cautioned before standing up to finish their dinner. That night Joshua spent gazing at the far off Drake's Head wondering if you and him were sharing the same sight tonight.
~•••~
Your arrival back to the capital city, Oriflamme was met with celebration. You had successfully faced off against Titan pushing back Dhalmekian forces further into their territory. It was only your second battle against another Dominant—your first being against Shiva's Dominant when you were only sixteen years old. You rode on top of your white chocobo waving gracefully at the people of Oriflamme. "All this just for pushing back Kupka?" You asked looking at Dion who rode by your side. The prince chuckled shaking his head, "It's to also celebrate your birthday on top of your victory at the boarder." He reminded. You gasped completely forgetting what the day was, your twentieth birthday. "Princess Princess! Here for you!" A young girl shouted as she ran beside your chocobo holding a pink flower. You took it from the girl giving her a warm smile, "Thank you my dear." You said the girl squealed excitedly before running off no doubt back to her mother. Once you finally got to the castle gates you hopped off your chocobo walking towards the crowd to personally thank everyone, Dion joining you. Babies were held in the air as mothers begged for you or Dion's blessing. It was strange still, how highly regarded you two were in the kingdom. The people truly loved both you and Dion. As you began to walk away from the crowd into the castle a man maneuvered his way through the crowd, "______! My lady, a gift for you." He called out handing you a bouquet of flowers. The casualness in which he called out your name made you pause. You took the bouquet and looked up to thank the man but he seemed to already be leaving the front of the crowd. Though you met his gaze for a few seconds before being ushered through the castle gates by the guards.
Ocean blue eyes...messy blond hair...and a smile you'd never forget. He mouthed something to you but you couldn't catch it. Your eyes were widened in shock...it felt as if you just saw a ghost. That man looked so much like Joshua...at least what you'd expect him to look like now. "Are you okay _____?" Dion asked suddenly snapping you out of your trance. His thin brows knitted together in concern, "You look like you just saw a ghost." He chuckled. You laughed nervously nodding, "Yes I'm okay. Forgive me I must just be tired." You tried to play it off.
That evening after the celebrations were over—at least for you they were, most of the city was still celebrating and would be all the way into the morning, you headed off to your room after a warm bath. Your room was adorned with the gifts you had received but only one stood out to you, the bouquet the man gave you. You walked over to it gently sliding off the paper that was wrapped around the stems. A note dropped out fluttering to the floor. Leaning down you set aside the flowers to grab the note. As your eyes read the note your breath hitched in your throat and you choked back a sob. 'I'll always be with you, my love. -J' It read.  This is some sick fucking joke! You thought as you ripped the note in half and grabbed the flowers throwing them across the room. Joshua was dead...that man had purposely pulled this sick joke on you. Perhaps he wanted to see your reaction in person which is why he disappeared into the crowd so fast. You dropped to your knees sobbing. Life was so cruel.
The next couple of years were uneventful at least until the night that Drake's Head fell. It was destroyed, you had your suspicion on who had done it since the Crystal had been threatened once before by Ramuh but Dion had quickly taken care of it. It was a calculated attack since they attackers made sure both you and Dion were not in Oriflamme at the time. It did not take long after until you were back home...in the Crystalline Dominion. Though you felt even more miserable there, your parents had fled the city and into obscurity once the Empire took control over the city. You couldn't bring yourself to care that they had left you again, you were relieved in a way that you wouldn't have to talk to the very people who sold you to Empire. It did not take long before you and Dion were sent off again to separate boarders though the event that happened had left you bed bound of months nearly dead.
A horrific encounter with Odin had destroyed more than half of the army that were brought with you to the front lines. He attacked unexpectedly at night, leaving you no other choice but to transform into Leviathan. Despite being near the ocean you were absolutely dominated. As fell to the forest floor slowly reverting back to your human form Odin followed you. It wasn't enough that he humiliated you in Leviathan form he took it a step further and humiliated your human body beating you bloody. Though you never understood why he did not finish you off. He left you with the words his strong gripping your chin harshly as he forced you to look him in the eye, "I wanted to see how strong this Leviathan was and you disappointed me. You must grow stronger Princess, for Mythos." Then he dropped you to the ground walking away. A dragoon had found you and you were immediately escorted back to Oriflamme where you began the long healing process. King Barnabas haunted your dreams you were incapable of returning back to the front lines for nearly a year.
                                          ~•••~
You sat in your old room gazing at Drake's Tail boredly. The moonlight and crystal encasing your room in a soft light. "_____, may I come in?" There was a gentle knock at your door. "Mhm." You replied back. Dion stepped in clicking the door shut, "It's ridiculous isn't it?" He muttered. You raised a brow looking at him, "What ever do you mean?" You asked. "Father. Claiming that child is the reason why we annexed the Dominion." Dion spoke with utter disdain his words coming out like venom.
You shrugged, "Olivier is quite a creepy child. Your wicked step mother isn't any better either." You smirked lazily at him. Dion groaned, "Was she always so corrupt?" He asked taking a seat next to you on the window sill. "She was always nice enough to me, because I was a dominant I presume. And she was always kind to Joshua albeit she was overbearing..but to anyone who she deemed lesser then well...you know how she treats them." You said. Dion sighed not too content with your answer something else weighed on his mind. "What is it?" You asked. "we're being sent off to the front lines once again. Seems like Lady Annabella doesn't want us around. So get some sleep and I'll have Terence come fetch you in the morning." He said standing up. You froze eyes widened, "No I can't." You began. "Don't worry we'll be together this time. I promise." He tried to reassure you. Standing up he paused placing a strong yet gentle hand on your shoulder and gave it a squeeze, "Don't stay up too late reminiscing about the what ifs ______." He mumbled softly before leaving you be. Dion could always read you so well.
You hated the front lines but for once you were actually relieved to be back on the battlefield. Away from the negative memories your associated with the Dominion, the nobles were beginning to think ill of you for being so weak that you couldn't return to the battlefield but they were wrong you were strong you could persevere . "My lady." A solider spoke as they ran into your tent getting to a knee. You jumped in surprise accidentally pressing too hard on your pen, the ink splattering across the canvas. You groaned, "What?! I told everyone to leave me be while I map out our strategy. This better be good—" you began to rant but were cut off by the soldier. "My lady I apologize. His highness needs you immediately." He said. You raised a brow and quickly stood to your feet walking to Dion's tent. Pushing the curtain open you ducked your head slightly as you walked into the tent, "This better be impo—" you began.
"_______, look who came back from the dead." Dion motioned with his hand towards someone unfamiliar. You followed his movement and gasped, no it was impassible. You felt your head spinning and you struggled to find your footing, "Wha...no. No...this is some sick joke." You began to mutter holding your head with one hand trying to stabilize yourself. But it was too much for you to handle and you collapsed. The last thing you remembered was being held tightly in someone's arms, "______ it's me." The blond man spoke with a warm smile on his face.
As you came to your senses you groaned, your eyes adjusting to the dim lighting. "J..Joshua." You whined out. "I'm right here ______. It's okay, just lay down." The voice from earlier said gently holding your hand. Once your vision adjusted you met those familiar calm ocean eyes. It really was him, you weren't dreaming. "I...how are you here?" You asked in disbelief. Though you didn't wait for an answer, immediately pulling him into a hug. You had to confirm he was real—physically here by your side. Once he wrapped his arms around you, you felt the tears stream out. This was too good to be true.
Joshua held you tightly as he felt your body shake from your sobs and he couldn't hold it back anymore. He sobbed alongside you muttering apologies and sweet words in between cries. You kept asking him why..where was he but it was hard to even form a thought no less a sentence. Finally you two were able to calm down and slowly you pulled apart. Joshua's calloused hands cupped your face as he pressed his forehead against yours, "______, I have dreamed of this day for so long. I've missed you so much." He said with a shakey breath his eyes closed. Tears silently streamed down his perfect face. You cupped his face and nodded, "I have too. I felt like I had died the day I heard of your death, nothing felt the same anymore." You sniffled. Your hands reached into his hair as you ran your fingers through the golden locks. "I'm sorry I couldn't see you sooner. I had no other choice it was to protect us both my dear." He explained slowly pulling away from you so he could take a good look at your face. Though he held your hand gently, he felt as if he stopped touching you you may disappear from him. You didn't care why he had suddenly decided to show himself. You did not care how he got to Dion. Whatever the reason was it could wait.
You gazed into each's other eyes taking in every single feature. You noticed new moles that lightly doted his face. You noticed his chiseled features. He looked so grown; far different from his baby like features you once remembered. Joshua couldn't help but notice how ethereal you looked, you looked as beautiful as the day he first laid eyes on you albeit you were grown now—matured. He noticed the faint scar that graced your cheek, the beauty mark that had appeared on your face, he noticed every single detail and he loved it—you.
You broke the silence as you gazed into his eyes, "Joshua...I love you. Please don't leave me again." You confessed with a sob. Joshua couldn't help but cry once again and nodded, "I love you too ______. I always have and always will." He confessed pulling you into a kiss. But you couldn't help but notice he didn't promise to never leave you again.

The arrival back at the Hideaway was grim—Ultima still had  one more challenge left. The sudden presence of the Crystal in the sky had not gone unnoticed at the hideaway as everyone bombarded the group with questions. It was known as Origin and it seemed like Ultima was luring Clive and Joshua to it. Your home was gone—Twinside was wiped off the map and you were powerless to do anything. Dion seemed to be taking it even harder than you were. As of now there was no way to get to Origin so Otto told everyone to go away and clear their heads.
Days passed as Clive and Jill left the Hideaway to help soothe the worries of their allies but you stayed behind with Joshua. You couldn't help but notice that Joshua had been treating you with extra care. Then one day he approached you as you were studying an old text book, "______, are you busy?" He asked rounding the corner. Marking your place before shutting the book you looked up shaking your head, "Mm no what's the problem?" You asked smiling warmly at him. He shook his head, "No problem. I just wanted to take you somewhere." He said flashing you a warm smile. You raised a brow as you pushed your seat back standing up, "Okay where's that?" You asked curiously tilting your head. He shook his head once more, "It's a surprise. Come grab your things and meet me at the docks. let's hurry before the sun begins to set." He said walking away down the boat docks. You thought it was suspicious how secretive he was being but you were quite interested. Grabbing your weapon and satchel you rushed down to the docks and quickly got on the boat to an unknown destination. You kept pestering Joshua on where you were going but he didn't give in.
~•••~
Hiking up a small hill you panted, "Goodness Joshua this is quite the hike you've taken me on." You laughed softly. Joshua had already made it to the top, "Come on not much further my love!" He waved ushering you to hurry, "We're going to miss the sunset." He added. Huffing you picked up your pace, Finally you reached the top of the hill and joined him. the view was absolutely gorgeous wild flowers of various colors swaying gently in the wind as you overlooked the calm oceans of Oriflamme. "This is gorgeous Joshua. How did you stumble upon this? I've never been here despite it not being far from the old capital." You asked in amazement. "Jote and I found it during one of our many travels. Do you remember during your birthday celebration many years ago? A man gave you a bouquet of flowers and a note alongside it?" He asked the smile never leaving his face. You nodded, "Mhm vaguely." You replied. "That was me I was trying to give you a hint that I was still alive and I still loved you. I picked those flowers from this very spot. That day I saw you I nearly gave away my identity." He confessed shyly. It all made sense, it really was from him and you weren't going mad. "I-I thought i was going insane. I knew it was you." You said relief in your voice. It was true Joshua had never forgotten about you.
Joshua took a step towards you, "Close your eyes." He said softly. You obliged his request and shut them. You heard him rustle around around before he finally spoke, "Open." He said. When your eyes fluttered open you saw him on one knee and he held up a delicate silver ring beautiful gem in the center of it. You gasped your hand covering your mouth as you looked into Joshua's eyes in disbelief. "A-are you?" You asked voice wavering. He nodded, "Yes I am. ______, I have loved you since the day I met you. You're the only thing that kept me going all those years we were apart. This ring is a symbol of our love. Please will you do the honor of marrying me?" He said his eyes glistened with tears and his face a red as he looked at you with a charming smile. You nodded, "Yes oh goodness yes Joshua of course I'll marrying you!" You cried out as you fell into his arms tumbling onto the plush grass below. You were crying happy tears as you laid on top of him, Joshua peppering your face with soft kisses. Slowly you two sat up sitting now in the field of flowers. "Your hand love." He said. You held it out as he slipped the ring onto your finger. "I'm the happiest man alive ______ and I have you to thank for it. I pray this ring will remind you of how much I loved you even when I'm gone." He said pressing a kiss to your hand. You frowned and your brows knitted together, something about his words made you feel nervous. It was as if he was prepping for the worst to happen—like he was dying. "Joshua is there something you're not telling me?" You asked voice quiet as you squeezed his hand. His thumb rubbed circles on the top of your hand and he shook his head, "No, it's just with my illness I never know how bad it will get. I love you ______ and I don't plan on leaving you ever. So please don't worry." He tried to reassure you. You believed him and nodded, "O-okay. I love you too Joshua." You smiled leaning forward to press a kiss to his lips.
Joshua looked at you taking in every detail of your face, he was dying and something in him warned him he may not come back from Origin. He wanted to remember this moment forever; the way your ___ eyes looked in sunset, your long ____ hair gently blowing in the breeze, soft lips, and the cutest nose, he loved the beauty marks and faint scars that were on your face and body. He wanted to remember it all just in case he had to go away for a long while. That night Joshua made love to you it was slow and passionate, he wanted to always remember how you felt. He wished he wasn't dying so he could spend more time with you. He knew he was in the wrong for not telling you about his fate but it was better that way, he'd rather see you happy these last few days rather than sad and mournful. He was selfish.
~•••~
"I-I can't do that." You stammered back away, "I can't allow you to take Leviathan from me. I can help you kill Ultima but I can't without my Dominant." You shouted. Clive stepped closer to you, "______, I need your strength in order for me to kill Ultima. Please I am begging you." He pleaded. You felt like a cornered wild animal as your eyes darted between the men in front of you. "He's right ______, I've seen your hand the curse has spread to your knuckles you can barely hold your lance anymore. You were injured severely from the behemoth and you still haven't healed. You must give Leviathan up. Clive can help forge a future for everyone." Dion interjected his arms were crossed over his chest and he looked at you sternly. You turned to Joshua he looked at you sympathetically, "It's your choice ______. I won't let it be taken away from you forcibly." He said. You head was spinning; Dion was right you were weak—a shell of your former self. "Who am I without Leviathan? My dominant has been my entire purpose in life. I need leviathan if I am to help get the Empire back in order." You cried out. You wanted to run away; let Ultima sit and wait let the lands succumb to the blight you needed your Dominant.
Suddenly firm hands were placed on your shoulders and you were shaken. Joshua rushed forward but was stopped by Clive. "No wait." Clive said. "You're more than your damn dominant ______. The people respect you, you can unite the empire just by being you. The people adore you and would do anything you asked. I need you to stay behind and mend Storm's wounds after I'm gone." Dion said his voice was raised but he was pleading with you. You slowly met his gaze, your eyes wide, "After you're gone?" You asked slowly. He nodded, "Yes after I'm gone you're to take over the throne. I have let the Dragoons know and they await for your arrival. Terance will be by your side. I'll be taking Joshua and Clive to Origin. I must repent for the things I did to Twinside." He confessed. You shook your head, "No no Dion. We both did that!" You hated seeing him take the full burden for the city's destruction. Dion let you go and adverted his gaze, "No it's my burden to carry. I should of never dragged you into the throne room that day. I need you to live for yourself for once ______. That is my final order to you." He said. You stood there taking in everything Dion had said—his final command to you was to live for yourself and mend Storm's hurt, build a better future for the people. You had always blindly followed Dion, you were indebted to him for the kindness he had showed all those years as a lonely young girl in the Holy Empire; he showed you how to fight and control your Eikon and now you were to let him march to his death. But you knew Dion had come to terms with his possible death so you had to respect his wishes. "I understand." You said walking past Dion and Joshua to Clive. You could build a better world with Joshua by your side.
"Very well Leviathan is yours. Please use it to destroy Ultima and for you all to come back home. Please Clive." You said weakly but you managed to smile at him. The brunett looked at you nodding, "Of course. I promise to bring all of us back home safely." Clive smiled. Reaching his hand out he hovered it above your heart. You winced as you felt the power drain from you a grunt leaving your mouth. Finally it was over all your powers had been taken away, you collapsed to the ground Joshua rushing to your side. He brushed away the hair that had fallen in front of your face, "That was a selfless thing to do ______. I'm so proud of you." He praised caressing your cheek gently. You sighed nodding, "I just want you to come home safe, please." You wheezed out.
"I promise I will." Joshua's word felt hollow.
~•••~
It was time to say your goodbyes it was time for Joshua, Clive, and Dion to make for Origin. Everyone had gathered to say their goodbyes and to wish them luck. But you clung to Joshua's side you couldn't bear the thought of him heading to face a god but you had to trust him that he would come back to you. Joshua held your face in his hands as he pressed his forehead against yours, "_______, I promise I'll to come back to you. After all we haven't had our wedding." He laughed softly. Tears pricked the corner of your eyes but you held them back you had to be strong, "I'll be holding you to that promise. Joshua I love you." You tried to laugh but you couldn't. As Clive yelled out that it was time to go you and Joshua gazed into each other's eyes one last time before he pressed his lips against yours. He pulled away too soon and he slipped out of your grasp, "I love you _______. I'll be back before the dawn." He smiled walking towards Clive. You turned to Dion and hugged him, "Dion I promise to make our dreams come true of creating a equal world. Please try to come back Dion. Thank you for everything." You said as you pulled away. Dion smiled, "I know you will ______. Please find Terance for me." He said he ruffled your hair before walking away. Finally you walked to Clive and hugged him, "Clive you best make good use of leviathan's powers. And I'm trusting you to make sure you all come back home safely." You joked. Clive chuckled nodding, "Of course ______. Thank you." He said.
You watched as they flew off towards Origin. You wanted to run after Joshua and scream but you couldn't instead silent tears streaming down your face. Jill collapsed to the floor as Torgal howled it was an awful feeling to see Joshua leave once more.

◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦
Life was cruel and unpredictable it was something you were forced to learn at a young age. Innocence wiped away within seconds—like drawings in the sand. One moment you were blissfully unaware of how cruel one could be and the next moment the life you had known the innocence you held was gone. The news following Phoenix Gate had spread quickly throughout the Twins. You weren’t even back home to the Crystalline Dominion when you heard of the tragedy. Joshua Rosfield was dead. In fact Rosaria had fallen shortly after your departure, your dear friends were dead all dead. Would you have suffered the same fate if your family stayed a day longer?
Your mother and father held you as you wailed in their arms, snot and tears streaming down your chubby face. Your father shouted at the knight who reported the news for saying it in front of you. But how would the knight know you’d react like this? The days following were a blur, the Crystalline Dominion was in chaos as they tried to defend themselves against the inventible threat that would soon come knocking at their boarders. Your mind couldn’t comprehend that Joshua had died…so instead you didn’t think about it. It wasn’t until news spread that Lady Annabella betrayed Rosaria which in turn made you believe she personally killed Joshua and the others. How could one be so cruel? That was the day something had awaken inside you…your denial had turned to anger.
Your chest was burning as you rushed out of the castle, screaming was heard from behind you as your mother chased after you. You had to run away you didn’t care where. Your little legs could only carry you so far  before you came tumbling to the ground. Breathing was shallow your eyes shut so tightly that your lashes were barely visible. You withered against the cold stone ground then suddenly you stopped moving. Grey eyes fluttering open staring at the blue sky but just as quickly the skies turned grey and heavy raindrops began to fall. A thumping repeating in your head until you blacked out again.
When you awoke you were laying in a warm bed. Groaning you say up the wet rag that was on your forehead dropping into your lap. “Lady _____!” A woman shouted rushing towards you, it was Tabitha. She embraced you tightly before pulling away her brown eyes examining every detail of your face. Her features were saturated with concern, “A..are you feeling well?” She asked placing a hand against your forehead. But you sat there limply staring blankly ahead at the white bricked wall. “Stay here dear I’ll go get the elders and your parents.” She said before rushing out of the room. What happened? Am I dead? You thought to yourself. One moment you were in excruciating pain and the next you blacked out now you were back in your bedroom without any memory of what had happened.
~•••~
Leviathan…you were the Dominant of Leviathan. How strange Leviathan hardly ever awakened in anybody it deemed as a lost Eikon but here you were now surrounded by various people debating on what to do with you. Your fingers tapped rhythmically on the wooden table your head rested in the palm of your hands. Didn’t they care to ask me what I wanted? You thought to yourself. Your mind wondered to what Joshua would think of you becoming a Dominant. It was that thought which sent a pang through your heart you grimaced. If I had only awoken as Leviathan sooner then I could of saved him…everyone… you felt guilty but you weren’t allowed to wallow in your sadness for long when you heard your father slam his fists on the oak table the room became silent.
“Damnit I won’t have my daughter fight! We can cover up that she’s Leviathan save her from fighting. She’s only a child.” He shouted his greying hair fell messily in front of his face.
“Lord Angelo…all of Twinside saw her transform it won’t be long until we have either Waloed or the Empire at our borders.” One man you vaguely knew said.
“I for one would rather join the Empire then have Waloed take over.” Another man chimed in.
“Of fucking course you would. You were never loyal to the Crystalline Dominion. I bet you fucking told the Imperials already we have a weak Dominant.” The man from before retorted back.
Your father sighed slumping in his chair in defeat he rubbed his temples eyes shut tight, “______ is but a child…she wouldn’t be able to defend us against Bahamut nor Odin. We shall wait until and see who comes to our borders first.” He said before standing up walking towards you. Placing a gentle hand on your shoulder he motioned for you to follow him out the door.
As the large doors slammed shut behind you and your father you paused, “Father, why don’t you or any of the others ever ask what I want to do? If I’m Leviathan then I must do everything I can to protect our home.” You said voice low hands balling into fists. Your finger nails digging into your soft skin as you tried to control your anger. Without a word your father dropped to his knees pulling you into a tight embrace. He then pulled back placing his strong hands in your shoulders, his tired stormy eyes watered as he stared intensely into your own orbs. “My dear _____, I can’t let you get hurt. I can’t let you die like Joshua.” His voice shook. It was the first time ever your father fearful, “I promise I’ll protect you.” He said then he stood up marching back into the room you two had just departed. Leaving you alone in the hallway faint arguing echoing from the room. What would Joshua do?
~•••~
“_______?” Joshua asked hesitantly as he examined your scrunched up face. “Is it really that bad?” He asked frowning. You turned back towards him and nodded, “Yes Joshua it really is that bad.” You gulped rather dramatically as you crouched down pawing at the broken shards of glass. A groan left the blond’s lips as he paced nervously around you his head darting like a wild animal across the room. His hands bawled into fists as he grabbed his hair, panic now truly setting in, “I told you we shouldn’t of came in here! That vase was mother’s it came all the way from Ash. If she finds out we broke it she’ll be angry. She might never let you come back here again.” He panicked dropping to his knees picking up the various broken shards.
“Wha?! You’re the one who dragged me in ‘ere! You scared me and made me bump the darn pillar. Speaking of which! Who puts valuable things on a pillar in the middle of the room?” You retorted back offended that your dear friend would dare place the blame on both you. After all it was his fault. But he was right…what if Lady Annabella never allowed you back to Rosaria again?! Think ______! Think! You bit your cheek as you tried to devise a plan on how to get away with this misfortune.
“Wait Joshua!” You whispered yelled as you grasped his hands away from the broken glass. Grabbing the hem of shirt you pulled it up earning a gasp from him. “Here hold it out. We’ll hide the glass in your shirt and dispose of it in the garden.” You explained as you reached down beginning to scoop up the glass chaotically. It was then you two heard the door to room crack open. Both of you and Joshua froze hearts beating wildly as you prepared for your doom. Then came in Clive he placed a hand on his chest sighing in relief. “Oh there you two are. Everyone is looking for you, it’s time for dinner. Come now—wait.” The raven haired boy raised a brow. “What are you two doing in here anyways? You know mother doesn’t like people in here collection room.” He then walked towards both you and Joshua and an immediate gasp left his lips.
Then came the pleading and crying, “Please Clive don’t say anythin!” “Brother please it’s not what it looks like!” “Help us!” “It was Joshua’s fault!” “No it was _______’s fault!” Clive raised a hand immediately shushing your pleas.
“I don’t care who’s fault it was you both know better than to be snooping through rooms. We’ll clean it up. I doubt mother’ll notice it’s gone anyways.” Clive sighed pulling a handkerchief from his pants pocket and scooping the glass shards into it. Your eyes watered, “Clive you really are the Phoenix’s shield.” You cried.
After disposing of the vase into the bin it was time to head to dinner. Just as you and Joshua thought you had gotten away with it, you heard shrieking followed by Duke Elwin shouting for the children to come over. Joshua and you lurked behind Clive and Jill trying to make yourselves invisible. Lady Annabella stood holding a piece of the broken vase in her hand, “Who did this?” She demanded, “A maid had found it thrown away.” She added. As silence fell across the room you and Joshua exchanged looks. Then Clive stepped forward, “Mother I’m sorry I broke it. I shouldn’t of been—“ he began but was quickly interrupted by Joshua stepping forward.
“No mother I broke it. It’s my fault.” He admitted. “Joshua don’t lie to protect your brother.” Annabella said her brows furrowed.
You couldn’t dare let your dear friend take all the blame! “No Lady Annabella I did it! I was bein’ clumsy and wanted to see your collections so I broke it.” You confessed. Joshua looked at you with wide eyes. It seemed like Annabella didn’t want to believe that both you and Joshua had been the culprits. She persisted telling you two to not take the blame for Clive it was then when Jill stepped forward an amused smile playing on her lips. “My lady Torgal had ran into the room and I chased after him and clumsily fell into your precious vase.” She said cooly. Elwin laughed as he looked at the children in front of him then looked at Annabella shrugging his shoulders, “My dear it seems like we won’t get the truth out of them. I can purchase you another vase like that one.” He said though Annabella just huffed tossing the shard to the ground.
You awoke and looked around the room. It was but a dream…it seemed like old memories seemed to plague your sleep as of late it made you miss Joshua even more so. Sighing you stood up walking over to your window pulling the blinds open, the bright blue Crystal and ocean greeted you. Months has passed and you felt as hallow as ever, when the other girls would invite you to play you’d always put them off. They never were as fun to play with as Joshua.
Tatiana entered your room without notice causing you to jump in surprise. “Oh good morning Miss Tatiana.” You greeted regaining your composure. Her usual neat greying hair was a mess she looked frazzled, “My lady come we must hurry and dress you.” She said coming towards you immediately stripping you of your night gown. You allowed her to, “What’s all the rush?” You asked curiously.
“The Empire is visiting with wonderful news.” She said.

◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦
Quiet mummers lulled the young prince out of his deep slumber, his body ached and he felt weak. Was this heaven…? That was the first thought that came to mind. Sitting up he groaned rubbing his eyes with balled fists as his ocean eyes adjusted to the dim lighting. “Your highness your awake!” An unfamiliar high pitched voice said. “______?” He asked instinctively his voice coarse from his dry throat. Once his eyes adjusted he saw messy dark hair and the face of a young girl looking at him with concern. “N-no Lord Rosfield…I’m not Lady ______. I am Jote.” She introduced herself.
“…Jote?” Joshua repeated it was an unfamiliar name. “Am I dead?” He then asked earning a small gasp from the girl. “No milord! Please wait one moment while I retrieve someone who may be able to explain your situation more.” She stood up from his bedside rushing towards the door, “Your safe here milord. Please relax” She said before leaving the room. Joshua took in his surroundings he had never been here before. Were am I? Did I not die at Phoenix Gate? He thought tossing the bed sheets off himself he began to sit up but suddenly he fell into a coughing fit. He was weak.
~•••~
Joshua had been slowly adjusting to his new life with the help from the members of The Undying. He was weaker and more sickly then he had ever been before. It did not help his health that mentally he was still coming to terms with everything that had transpired at Phoenix Gate. He was considered a deadman to the world and it pained him even more he couldn’t see you nor his brother.
He wondered throughout the dimly lit building, it was apart of his daily rehabilitation to move around as much as possible to help rebuild his strength. The Undying were secretive people but they were quite boring it was Jote who helped keep him entertained most days. Humming quietly to himself as he focused on walking It was then he heard quiet mummerings from around the corner he paid no mind to it; only when ______’s name was mentioned did that peak his interest. He peaked around the corner listening intently to the conversation transpiring.
“….Yes Lady ______ Lannis awoke as Leviathan.” Cyril said to Jote, “For His Highness’ sake of health we shall not mention to him that happened nor her engagement, Jote.” He spoke lowly. Joshua felt his heart stop for a brief second as his breath hitched in his throat in surprise. “B..but he’ll find out eventually.” Jote retorted she was cut off my Cyril, “Milord are you hiding? Then you heard our conversation. Please come out.” He had caught Joshua.
Slowly the Prince walked around the corner, “What do you mean _______ awoke? What engagement?” He asked. It hadn’t fully registered in his mind what was being said.
“Lady ______ is the Dominant of Leviathan something triggered her awakening but we aren’t sure what did. Since the Crystalline Dominion is neutral the Holy Empire saw it as an opportunity to snatch another Dominant for themselves. Our brothers have reported that Lord Angelo was scared of King Barnabas taking her for himself so he married her off to Prince Dion. We are also being told it’s to hold leverage over the Dominion to not provide aid to the other nations.” Cyril explained. Immediately Joshua felt unfamiliar pang in his chest he stumbled forward Jote rushing to hold him up. It was overwhelming to him to hear all of this at once. His frail body couldn’t handle it holding his hand against his chest he steadied himself. “We must save ______. I know she’s scared right now! We promised to marry one another I—“ Joshua’s panic was cut short by Cyril who simply shook his head, “She’s safer with the Empire than us Your Highness im sorry.”
It wasn’t fair to you…to him.
~•••~
Years had passed and Joshua’s pain never eased, he found himself always thinking of Clive, Jill, and most of all you. He heard that you were fighting on the front lines alongside Prince Dion. He also knew that both you and the Prince were still engaged it seemed like Sanbreque’s thirst for more land had prolonged the marriage and with his mother producing another possible heir to the throne he assumed that perhaps you and Dion’s marriage wasn’t important to the Empire right now. He’d be lying if he said he wasn’t happy that you weren’t married yet. Joshua though couldn’t get over that you were now a solider nonetheless a Dominant. Every time he heard of your victories on the battlefield he felt sick to his stomach—scared that the next news he heard was that Leviathan was slayed in battle. Damn it all you should of never had to bear the burden of being a Dominant.
He kicked a rock across the road a deep sigh escaping his lips. “Are you ready milord?” Jote asked as she finished packing their campsite up. He turned to her nodding, “Yes let’s head to Orriflame. Perhaps I’ll get lucky and be able to catch a glimpse of ______.” He laughed half heartedly. Jote frowned her thin brows knitting together, “Your highness please make sure to stay out of Lady ______’s sight…actually we just need to stay out of sight from anyone who may recognize you.” She reminded him as she tossed her satchel over her shoulders. Joshua pouted every so slightly as he followed behind Jote towards capital city. Drake’s Head could be seen far off in the distance he wondered what you thought as you realized you’d be living in Orriflame for the rest of your life.
“I know Jote I only jest. Come let’s make haste.” He prayed that the Flames would bless him and allow him to catch a glimpse of you. He only imagined how you looked now.

Waloed's seas were harsh unforgiving unlike the calm familiar waters that surrounded the Holy Empire. Despite you feeling the most at peace when near water something in you felt dread being in these unfamiliar waves, Joshua could tell. "You're nervous, aren't you?" He asked walking to your side as you stood on the upper decks of the Enterprise watching the ocean. You hummed in reply, "Yes, I am. The closer we get to Ash the worse I feel. Waloed...I feel as if something terrible will happen there." You confessed, maybe you were overthinking things. Joshua placed his hands on top of yours and shook his head, "Everything will be okay. You need to rest love, your lack of sleeping has been messing with your head." He offered a smile trying to comfort you. Sighing you agreed with him, "Yes perhaps you're right. A lot has happened I'm very overwhelmed as of late." You offered him a weak smile as you pushing your hair out of your face. "It's to be expected. I'll join you later I'm going to talk to Clive for a bit." He said leaning down to press a delicate kiss to your lips before you left to go to bed. Instantly falling asleep as soon as your head hit the plush pillow.
The morning came and so did the time for you to depart the ship and begin making your way through Ash to the capital.
You held your lance tightly in your hand anticipating that something would pop out and attack as you followed behind the group. Your eyes scanned the horizon, head on a constant swivel. At this rate following the cliff side to the capital would take weeks and it seemed as if Gav read your mind. "It'll be a long walk if we follow the cliffs. I'll go on ahead, scout somethin' out." He said rushing ahead. You paused noticing the tension between Clive and Joshua shift, Torgal grunted looking up at you. You made eye contact with the two brothers and coughed clearing your throat, "I'll look ahead also, come Torgal." You said clicking your tongue at the wolf, walking past the two brothers. Torgal whined at Clive, "Go on boy." He commanded.
Torgal trailed walked next to you, as you wondered aimlessly along the jagged cliff walls. Nothing was of note, just greenery and rocks. "Something's off with em, don't you think?" You mumbled looking at Torgal next to you. He whined in response before yawning. You laughed, taking it as he agreed with you, "Guess we'll leave them be and just wait for Gav." You smiled leaning down to pat Torgal's head. His fur was soft and dense, he was obviously a well maintained wolf. Torgal nuzzled into your hand his tail wagging back and forth, he then nosed at the satchel that was around your waist. You clicked your tongue wagging a finger in the wolf's face, "Ah you're just being sweet to me to con me out of some food, sneaky dog." You scolded half heartedly. Torgal barked in reply. Sighing you reached into the satchel pulling out a dried meat stick breaking it in half and giving one half to Torgal and the other you ate. Torgal seemed mildly satisfied with the treat and rubbed his head on the side of your leg, no doubt begging for more but you wouldn't give in despite how adorable you found him. "Oi, Princess whatcha doing over here?" Gav asked he climbed down the cliff's face. You shrugged, "Killing time. Seemed like Joshua wanted to talk to Clive and the tension was killin me." You replied watching the blond man walk towards you. He sighed tossing his hands up, "They got lots to talk about I assume. Ah well let's go on back to them I found a way." He grinned stepping aside so you could lead the way.
As Clive and Joshua came back into view Torgal rushed towards them barking at the pair. You noticed something had shifted between the two the tension that was there had disappeared, you raised a brow looking at the blond. "Did I miss something?" Gav asked his eyes darting between the two men. Joshua and Clive exchanged laughs as they walked past Gav, "Only that Joshua didn't." Clive chuckled. Gav looked at you, "I don't get it." He mumbled, you shook your head shrugging your shoulders, "Me neither." You said turning to follow Joshua.
~•••~
Waloed was quiet but you still didn't let down your guard, you didn't know if Barnabas or this Ultima being were lurking in the shadows waiting for a chance to pounce so you stayed close by Joshua's side. Not much banter happened between the four of you it wasn't until you walked into the first village where you finally spoke, "What happened here?" You asked in disbelief voice barely above a whisper. The village was deserted and the town reeked of death—yet you saw no death— it was odd. Crows and vultures circled the sky above screeching as the group entered the town. Clive paused drawing his sword as did Joshua and Gav. You immediately took a defensive stance, lance in front of you. "I knew it. Only orcs and Akashic are here." Joshua hissed through gritted teeth as the first group of fiends came rushing forward. A switch flipped in your head and your body automatically went into survival mode as you swung you lance striking down on any enemy who dared approach you. Your lance was enveloped in water so each time you slashed a sharp wave would follow slicing and knocking the enemy down. Finally it seemed like the enemy was taken care of and it was then you noticed just how desolate Waloed was. "Do you think the villagers made it out?" You asked. "We can only hope." Clive responded.
After more trekking through the rough terrain and into a small cave you finally made it out on the other side but the sound of monsters groaning and screeching made it apparent that you all were not in the clear. Peering over the cliff side you gasped taking a step back. Hoarders of Akashic and ocrs surrounded the stronghold. You covered your mouth with your hand in disbelief. "Has all of Ash fallen into Ultima's hands?" Clive asked seemingly also in disbelief, he had taken the words right out of your mouth. Joshua stared solemnly at the hoard below, something in his brilliant blue eyes had shifted. "Are we too late?" You asked. "No, perhaps Stonehyrr still stands?" Gav suggested with a half hearted laugh. It was callous but you knew the scout was probably right. Clive brushed off your comments, "We continue onto Stonehyrr. The plan hasn't changed." He said moving past you and Joshua. He seemed determined as always, nothing seemed to deter him. "Wait Clive. You must go on without ______ and I. This stronghold is perhaps more ancient than Phoenix Gate. I wish to investigate it, it may shed some light on Ultima if we are to defeat him." Joshua explained. Clive seemed to contemplate for a minute a trouble expression washing over his tanned face for a brief moment before he nodded slowly, "Alright. Just stay out of trouble." He offered a weak smile at the blond. Joshua nodded returning the smile, "I always do at least mostly. Come ______ let's be on our way." He said. "Right!" You replied following after Joshua.
You followed closely behind Joshua as you two walked down the dark steep stairs of the Stronghold; a ball of flames being the only thing that illuminated the way. The stronghold radiated an ancient aura it seemed like Joshua thought the same also, "I knew it. This is as old as Phoenix Gate if not older. I pray we find some answers." He commented looking around in fascination. You hummed in reply, "Mhmm. Say, Joshua what did you and Clive talk about earlier?" You asked curiously as you gazed at the back of his head. He paused slowly turning to look up at you as he stood on the bottom steps, "He took Jill's Eikon. That's why she didn't come with us." He plainly said. You were taken aback and balled fist came to chest, "What? He forcibly took it from here? But why? Is that what he did to Dion also?" You asked the panic rising in your voice. Joshua waved his hands in front of him trying to calm you down, "Jill willingly gave it to him. Dion, I do not know if he took all of his powers but I don't think Clive took them intentionally. It seems like when one is weak—vulnerable he can absorb their powers. I don't quite get it myself." He tried explaining but his uncertainty only made you more anxious. "Will he take mine too?" You asked voice barely above a whisper. You couldn't imagine a world without your Eikon; in your mind Leviathan was a vital part of your being it was your whole purpose! Having Leviathan taken from you, you would feel like a part of your soul and self worth would be ripped away. You were born with Leviathan and you'd die with her. Joshua shook his head placing his hands on your shoulders, "No no ______, I won't let him. I told him he can't take Leviathan from you." He said reassuring you that things would be okay. Your brows furrowed in sadness and you nodded slowly, "O..okay I trust you, Joshua." You mumbled. He nodded smiling as his hands removed themselves from your shoulders and up to cup your face, he placed a gentle kiss on your soft lips sealing the promise to protect you.
Finally you both came to the end of the staircase and door stood in front of you. Joshua stepped forward pushing the door open, the wooden door slowly creaked open as dust flew through the air. No one had been down here in a very long time; the air was stuffy and smelled stale. "______, stay here I'll be back." Joshua ordered as he stepped into the room the doors shutting behind him with a loud thud. You sighed pacing up and down the small hallway nervously awaiting for him to return. It seemed like hours had passed as you waited, you eventually opting to sit down and closing your eyes for a quick nap.
The sound of the doors creaking open shot you awake as you quickly got to your feet weapon in hand. Joshua stumbled out looking dazed. His eyes were glazed over and then you noticed crimson red liquid staining his mouth. "Joshua!" You shouted rushing towards him, wrapping your arms around him you pulled him to his knees as your eyes rapidly examined him. "Who attacked you?!" You asked as your hands pawed his body looking for a sign of a wound but there was none. He grabbed your wrist shaking his head, "No one. It's alright my love." He said voice hoarse and shakey. His hand left your wrist and you noticed blood staining the black leather gloves, it was the same spot where his hand was. You paid no mind instead reaching into your satchel pulling out a silly white embroidered handkerchief, reaching up you began to wipe the blood off his chin and mouth. "Your illness acted up?" You asked gently. "Mhm...sorry for worrying you." He replied quietly. You shook your head, " 'is okay. Here let me get your medicine." You said putting the handkerchief away and pulling out a small glass vile of medicine. Joshua took it swallowing the bitter mixture, his mind kept flashing to things he had discovered in the room. He couldn't even manage to meet your gaze afraid to tell you the truth. "What happened in there? Did you get some answers?" You asked. He shook his head once again, blond hair falling in front of his face, "I'm still trying to decipher it. Come let's go find the others." He avoided the question standing to his feet. You watched him get to his feet and you couldn't help but feel like he was lying to you. Then the building shook and you heard rumbling from above, "let's hurry before this place collapses." You muttered standing to your feet while adjusting your satchel. You began climbing the stairs following closely behind Joshua, his ball of flames seemed to glow more dimly. "Oh, ______ please don't tell Clive." He said. "Mhm." You hummed.
~•••~
A petite pregnant woman named Edda seemed to be sole survivor in all of Waloed it was strange. You sat by her side trying to comfort her offering her a glass of cold water but she was shell shocked traumatized by whatever horrors she had seen. She wouldn't lift her head instead gazing blankly at the wooden floorboards and holding her round belly. "I'm gonna leave the glass right here, okay?" You smiled warmly at her setting that water on the table before standing up and walking towards Joshua. He stared out the window at the intimidating tower that no doubt Clive was in. "Do you think he can kill Barnabas?" You hissed quietly. Greagor knows you'd do anything to have that man dead after what he did to you. The countless nights you spent waking in horror covered in sweat, the months you spent recovering both mentally and physically, and you couldn't forget that the man had forced you to use so much aether both times you encountered him that you had started the curse. Luckily it had only manifested at the tips of fingers on your right hand which stayed gloved for most of the time so you were able to keep it a secret for now at least.
Joshua looked at you from the corner of his eyes briefly not wanting to take his eyes off the tower. "I think he can. He's stronger than ever now." He sounded confident, "______, you never told me, why are you so fearful of Barnabas?" He asked quietly as to not alert the others. You placed your hands on the window sill, finger nails digging into the soft wood, a shakey breath left your mouth, "He nearly killed me it was forever ago but it still haunts me. At the time I did not know why he left me alive, he only said I needed to get stronger for Mythos. Which now I know Mythos is Clive. I was so scared to step back into a battlefield, my wounds were grievous and seemed to not want to heal despite be going to the healing waters of Leviathan. Odin's blade had burned itself into me. I couldn't sleep for weeks and weeks because of the pain mixed with nightmares. I used so much magic both times and couldn't even defeat him. I hate him for making me feel so weak and a laughing stock. I embarrassed both myself, the Dragoons, and Dion." You confessed. Joshua frowned and placed his gloved hand on top of yours, "______, you're too harsh on yourself. Dion isn't embarrassed of you for not being able to defeat Odin. That man—Barnabas he is no doubt fueled by Ultima giving him unnatural strength. Only Clive can defeat him that I'm sure of." He said squeezing your hand. You looked up at him smiling weakly, "Thank you Joshua." You said.
Clive's presence was announced by Torgal barking, Joshua quickly rushed to the door just as it opened. The brunette stepping in he walked to Joshua placing a firm hand on his shoulder, "It's a damn good sight to you Joshua. I'm alright." He said. Clive looked a little warn out but he was fine only looking like he got into a small scuffle, there truly was something special him. "Did you kill him?" You asked a bit overly excited. He turned to looked at you nodding, "Yes, the king is dead.". You nearly collapsed to the ground in relief, your palm resting over your heart, "Thank goodness. Thank you Clive." The weight of fear had been lifted off your chest now you nor anyone else would ever have to encounter that mad man again.
~•••~
The sun was beginning to set over the horizon when Edda finally spoke coming to terms slowly with what had happened. Gav had been hovering around her non stop, he seemed to have a soft spot of women especially ones that were in distress. Now that she seemed well enough to walk on her own she would be heading off back to the Enterprise, the blond scout guiding her. You had gathered a large satchel of items from her home, since you weren't sure when she'd be back. "Here are some of her belongings. Edda." You said placing the bag in Gav's arms before turning to face the dark haired woman, "I packed some portraits and things that seemed sentimental for you. I'm sorry I can't do more." You said. This wasn't the first time you had been through a town that had been ravaged and it wasn't your first time dealing with those in distress, you understood how to deal with these situations. She sniffled bowing her head, "Thank you Princess." She said. You waved your hands dismissively, "Please no need to address me so formally nor bow to me." You said awkwardly. "Alright let's go goin." Gav said waving goodbye to you three.
It was then Clive explained Barnabas' ambitions the meaning of him turning his own kingdom into ruin. You clenched your fist, "What a fool." You muttered spinning on your heel walking towards the capital without waiting for Joshua or Clive. You couldn't believe the king thought turning innocents into Akashic was a mercy, he was a man with wild ambitions to save the world and he fell into Ultima's trap.

Your armor was repaired by an Undying blacksmith as was your silk garments. It was time for you to leave a place you thought of a safe heaven and return back to your duties as a Princess of Sanbreque. As much as you hated leaving the Undying hideout you knew that your stay here would always only temporary; you could not live the rest of your life in hiding neglecting your duties. With a heavy sigh you slipped on your armor. It felt much heavier than before proving that you had loss weight, you tightened the leather straps fastening the armor, then finally slipped on brown leather gloves to hide your crystalized finger tips. It was strange adjusting to your new disability, learning how to regrip your sword was odd but you knew in time you’d adjust.
“______, are you ready? Jote has finished her preparations.” Joshua’s soft voice spoke from behind the door. Another depressed sigh left your lips, “Yes. Coming.” You replied curtly walking towards the door the sound of metal clinking following you.
Joshua offered you a weak smile, “How are you feeling?” He asked sensing your mood. You gave him a shrug as you walked past him, “I’m fine. Let’s hurry to Oriflamme.” You replied short once again. Joshha frowned biting his lip in frustration. He wasn’t a fool he knew exactly why you were being short with him—almost as if you were distancing yourself from feeling anything. Joshua grabbed your wrist, “______ look at me, please. I know you’re upset with me but this is not my choice.” He frowned his grasp tightening around your frail wrist.
“I’m not upset Joshua.” You responded a blank expression on your face.
“Yes you are. You’re acting the same way as you did when we were children. I’m not throwing you away if that’s what you are feeling. I promise we’ll only be away from one another for a brief while. I promise to return to you, I can’t lose you again ______.” He was sincere that much you knew and you finally gave in turning around to to hug him. “Promise you’ll come back…” you mumbled into his hair.
“I promise _______.” He replied pressing a delicate kiss against your forehead a gentle smile playing on his plump lips.
~•••~
Drake’s Head came into view and you pulled your hood closer avoiding the gaze of soldiers as you cut through Northside. “We shall part ways once we enter Oriflamme.” Joshua said. You nodded, “Right I’ll go to the castle. I pray Dion is there.” You said. You wondered if you’d be welcomed with open arms once back “home” or if you’d be accused of treason or something ridiculous. You were filled with anxiety you had been missing for nearly two months and now all of sudden you’d appear back at the castle looking more or less healthy. You couldn’t worry about that now though unless you’d make yourself sick with anxiety.
The three of you quickly made it out of Northside without much suspicion and out into the vast countryside of Sanbreque. You felt more dread as Drake’s Head got closer and closer before eventually arriving at the gates of Oriflamme as dusk began to settle. The gate guards stop you three one walking up, “What is your business here?” He asked. “To sight see.” Joshua responded simply pulling his hood down. It was such a mundane reason but it convinced the guards who shrugged motioning you three on. You hadn’t realized how tight your grip was on the reins until you finally got through the gates and relaxed.
Jote and Joshua in exchanged a glance before looking at you. “That was the quickest we’ve ever been let through the gates. Something going on?” Joshua asked amusedly. You shrugged, “It depends on the day and who’s guarding the entrances. I assume today there’s been a lot of folks in and out the city.” You commented. The bustling street life of Holy Empire’s capital city felt weirdly relaxing to you. You had missed the sounds of the city because when you were here you knew you wouldn’t have to go into battle.
As you rode your chocobos throughout the busy streets Joshua stopped, “This is where we stop.” He said hopping from his chocobo handing the reins to Jote. Joshua walked towards you offering his hand to you with a warm smile, “Come I’ll help you.” He said. Your hands tightened on the reins and took a deep breath slowly getting off the chocobo with Joshua’s help. Your feet landed on the stone ground with a small clink and you locked eyes with Joshua’s hesitating to let go of his hand for when you did you knew you would have to leave him.
“Can we speak for a moment before I make my way to the castle?” You asked stepping close to Joshua so no one could hear the conversation that was about to transpire. He nodded, “Of course. Let’s go over here.” He guided you away from the busy streets and behind the wooden chocobo stables never letting go of your hand. This was one of the many locations scattered throughout the land where members of the Undying conjugated—it was a safe place.
Letting go of his hand you leaned your back against the building Crossing your arms you focused on the Crystal glimmering in the sun light, “So…if Clive and this Cid are going to destroy the mother crystal where will that leave Oriflamme?” You asked brows furrowing. Joshua shook his head, “I..I can’t answer for sure what will come of Oriflamme or if they will even be successful but I must get to Clive in time. I sense something awful what happen if I do not get to him in time. I feel as if once Drake’s Head is destroyed things will change in the realm. I almost want to stop them but I mustn’t.” He sighed, “I won’t stop you if wish to stop them. Nor i or the Undying knows what will exactly happen once the Crystal is destroyed but you must be prepared for anything ______.” He sounded unsure himself almost frightened he was definitely hiding something from you but you did not have to pry—you didn’t want to.
You rubbed your temples and nodded. You didn’t understand what was the purpose of destroying the crystals; it almost made you want to stop them but you placed your trust in Joshua. “Very well I won’t stop them or say anything to the Imperials. But if Dion wishes to stop them I will allow it it wouldn’t be the first time someone has tried to get into the Inner sanctum. But lost importantly when will we meet again?” You asked eyes softening, scared to hear his answer.
“I will send a messenger owl when it comes time ______.” He gave you a smile. So all you could do was sit and wait. Cupping his hands around you head he pulled you forward placing kiss on top of your forehead before embracing you one final time. It was an awful feeling to let one another go once again. You began to make your way back to the castle.
~•••~
You were greeted with open arms by Sylvester as he motioned you towards him, “My dear _______ we are so relieved to have you back. We will find the old maiden who nursed you back to health and reward her graciously for her service.” He grinned, he seemed to genuinely believe the story you had fabricated and you were relieved. “Dion has been worried sick when he heard of your disappearance and that your whole legion got wiped out. He even offered to search for you but of course he must stay at the boarder. Waloed will pay for their transgressions against the Empire.” He rambled on and on but you didn’t pay it much attention.
You stayed kneeled head low, “I apologize your grace for not coming back sooner. My memory is still foggy but I know in due time I shall remember everything that had happened until then please forgive me.” You spoke formally, luckily for you the Emperor seemed in hurry for your regain your memory he just seemed relieved to have you back.
Word of your arrival had quickly spread and the people were back out on the streets celebrating that Leviathan had returned home. Days turned into nights with no word from Joshua nor Drake’s Head being destroyed it was until nearly two weeks later that you were awoken by Dragoons rushing into your bedroom chaos echoing from behind them. “Lady ______! Drake’s Head has been destroyed His Excellency is requesting your immediate presence.” A dragoon said bowing. You nodded, “Everyone out let me dress in my armor. Send the Dragoons to try and quell the chaos from the people.” You commanded as you rushed to your window that overlooked the crystal you realized that it was truly gone. The once faint blue glow that illuminated your chambers at night was no more. You felt angry? So much chaos filled the city you could hear crying and screaming from panicked people. I need to trust Joshua on this…you kept reminding yourself as you quickly fastened on your armor before storming out the door sword in hand.
“_______, prepare preparations for the annexation of the Crystalline Dominion. Oriflamme has fallen and the blight will be at our doorsteps soon.” Sylvester commanded. You felt your heart felt heavy when you should of been happy to returning back to your true home, somehow you knew this was only the beginning of a chain of events that would end in disaster. You only prayed that Joshua was okay.
~•••~
The annexation of the Crystalline Dominion was quick only a small number of lives were taken. Your parents quickly gave up the castle and their once royal titles were stripped from them now reduced to simple nobles who lived outside the city. Your parents blamed you for allowing the Dominion to be taken. For allowing Drake’s Head to get destroyed. But they never once asked how you had been. You had been praised for your quick action on escorting the citizens out of Oriflamme and maintaining order. Sylvester and Annabella were pleased with you overtaking the Dominion but none of it mattered. You felt alone again even your own parents hated you. You had no idea where Joshua was or if he was even safe.
You sat in your old bed room, your pale grey orbs staring at your cursed hand. At least it hasn’t gotten worse. You thought flexing your hand open and close. Dion would be returning soon from the front lines and the Emperor ordered for you take a much needed rest until he decided on your next assignment. You hadn’t seen Dion in months at this point you were missing the Prince who had become your close friend. Sighing you through yourself against your bed and stared at the ceiling. It was so hard to sleep now a days, you often awoke drenched in sweat from the various nightmares you had every night. The faint blue glow from Drake’s Tail illuminating your dark bed room much like it did back in Sanbreque it only brought you some comfort though.
As you began to fade asleep a faint tapping at your window made you sit up and you looked around before noticing a hooded figure at the window. Pulling your silk robe close you walked cautiously over to the glass. “Joshua?” You shouted in surprise before quickly covering your mouth with your hand. He cringed putting a finger to his mouth to get you to quiet down, quickly you opened the window allowing him in before shutting the window closed.

The four of you, plus Torgal, were nearly half way to Tabor but the sun had quickly set forcing you to camp out for the night. You and Joshua laid together, Torgal cuddling close it was instinctive as if the wolf knew you both were frail. Jill and Clive were off in the distance speaking to one another. "You're ill Joshua." You mumbled tracing your fingers on his chest. He flinched, "I know. But I'll be okay." He tried to reassure you. You had finally seen caught a glimpse of what he hiding under his shirt— a dark glowing crystal incased in his chest. You were no fool that thing looked parasitic, you did not like it any bit it only heightened your anxiety. "I've had this for a long time do not worry dear." He said grabbing your hand to move it away from his chest. You sighed, "How could I not worry? You coughed up blood again. Stop using magic." You frowned. "Don't worry, please." He flashed you a smile before placing a kiss to the top of your hand. You couldn't help but feel like that thing was draining his life away.
~•••~
Arriving in Tabor you soon met with Jote as she and Joshua explained the full details of the Undying. Joshua also revealed Ultima's true plan; his purpose of creating Dominants. You felt dread wash over your body; Ultima was a god and he wasn't pleased his subjects were disobeying him. He wanted something from Clive and it seemed he had no problem in destroying everything that stood in his path. You felt sick to your stomach by the idea of having to confront a god like being. But you'd deal with that when the time came—if it ever came. You fidgeted with you fingers as Joshua dismissed Jote from her service. You couldn't help but feel a smidge of jealously upon seeing the brunette, she was kind and had been there to take care of Joshua for all those years. You felt like you didn't deserve Joshua, she did. You could tell by the way she looked at him how her eyes glimmered—she was enamored with him.
"Jote can we speak?" You asked before she left the building. She nodded and you followed her outside. Though you were overcome with petty jealousy you couldn't help but notice when you made eye contact with her she gave you nothing but a warm smile. "His highness has been looking forward to seeing you once again. I'm grateful you two were able to be with one another. I hope I have not done anything to offend you." She said bowing her head. Her kind words were laced with a thin veil of sadness which made you feel far more guilty. You clicked your tongue and waved your hands dismissively, "P-please lady Jote no need to bow to me. It should be I bowing to you. I'm eternally grateful for you. I am in both your and the Undying's debt for caring for Joshua all years. When..when I couldn't be there. Thank you." You stammered bringing the girl into a hug. Her dark eyes widened in shock and she awkwardly returned the hug before you pulled away. "I apologize I'm just grateful. Please have a safe journey." You cleared your throat before walking off to join Joshua's side. Jote titled her head in amusement and laughed softly to herself; she never expected the Princess of Sanbreque to thank her nonetheless hug her.
~•••~
The free cities were just as you suspected them to be— total chaos. But you saw a familiar face that you had not seen in many years. Lord Byron he embraced you with open arms expressing how happy he was to see you and Joshua together once again. You also met two faces—Mid an eccentric girl and Gav a kindhearted scout. Though the happy reunion did not last long as Gav had explained the dire situation. Akashic creature overtaking the city and they seemed to be controlled. You couldn't help but feel nervous but if there was a chance that people could be alive you'd venture into the city to help save them. "I'll go with Joshua and Jill." You volunteered not wanting to leave his side. Clive shook his head, "Actually _____ I was hoping you'd go with Mid to help with the ship." He said. You shook your head, "I know nothing about ships. I can fight though, I'm a dragoon." You began to say defensively. "______, Clive's right. If a group of Akashic start making their way to the ship before Mid can start it you can use your abilities to push the ship into the ocean." Joshua said. You frowned and clenched your fists spinning on your heel, "Fine. Just be safe. Come show me where this ship is." You marched out of the room. "She's just as I remember." Byron laughed following behind you.
You paced around the deck, lance in hand awaiting for Joshua's return. "Are you almost done?" You shouted at Mid. "It takes time princess!" She shouted back. You clicked your tongue in annoyance. A few minutes and you heard footsteps in the distance, you readied your weapon but out came from the shadows Joshua dragging Clive's limp body Torgal barking as he ran up to you. Quickly you sheathed your lance and rushed towards the pair helping drag Clive into the an abandoned building. "Where's Jill?" You asked. Joshua shook his head, "Holding off Barnabas." He said. You couldn't help but notice the blood trail that oozed behind Clive and you gulped nervously setting him on the bed. You paced nervously outside the building keep watch as Gav addressed Clive's wounds. It was nightfall by the time Joshua had come to grab you, "He's awake. We're going after Jill and we'll need your help." He said. You brows knitted together concern washing over your face, "He really took her didn't he? We are no match for King Barnabas, Joshua. We can't go after her." You pleaded cupping his hands in yours.
"What do you mean no match?" Clive asked limply slowly towards you. You shook your head wildly, "Dion...he can barely stand toe to toe with him. We have to get him before he transforms into Odin." You warned. "We'll be in the ocean. You have the advantage my dear _______!" Byron chimed in. You couldn't help but view their optimism as naïveté. "I'm scared of him." You whispered only loud enough for Joshua to hear. He gave you a sympathetic smile, "I'll be right there with you." He said quietly giving your hands a reassuring squeeze. Joshua only knew vaguely of your encounter with Odin he never realized how far the trauma went.
~•••~
With Leviathan's abilities you were able to help move along the ship even faster and sooner than later the ship finally caught up with Barnabas' ship. You nearly froze at the sight knowing that the king was on there. "______ slam us into them!" Mid shouted from the helm. She sounded far too eager for your liking. Joshua gave you a reassuring nod and you quickly moved the waves to slam into the side of the ship. You stumbled from the empathy but Joshua quickly grabbed you helping you back into your feet. "Go!" Joshua shouted at his brother who quickly hopped off the ship alongside Torgal. Suddenly an ear piercing scream left your mouth causing Joshua to snap his head in the direction of what had caused your fear. You cowered behind Joshua which only earned a laugh from the king, "Leviathan did I not say we'd meet again? I expect you to be stronger this time." He said. Joshua stood defensively in front of you holding his arm out, "Leave her alone. You want her you go through me." He said, his voice was ice cold anger seeping through. Your reaction to see Odin was all Joshua needed to know that whatever had happened to you it instilled a primal fear in you.
"Get her away!" Joshua shouted at Gav who quickly grabbed you by the arm dragging you away from the fight that was going to no doubt ensue. You sat in a corner covering your ears with your arms as your buried your face in your knees. You tried blocking out the sounds of Joshua and Odin fighting above deck. Gav shook your gently, "Ohhh come on Princess. You haveta go out there and help him!" He pleaded trying to snap you out of your dissociative state. Minutes passed as Gav pleaded but it was only the sound of the Phoenix screeching that made you snap out of your daze. "Joshua!" You shouted standing to you rushing to the top deck.  There you saw Odin in his full form sitting upon the black stallion a glowing black and crimson sword at his side. Flashbacks flooded into your mind, balled fists in your hair as you tried to calm yourself. Then you saw Odin preparing to swing his sword and you knew then you had to help Joshua even if it meant your death. You ran off the deck, Mid shouting your name but you ignored her. You closed your eyes as you fell into the water. The cold ocean embraced your frail body wrapping you in it's comforting warmth. The ocean wasn't a cold terrifying place to you, it was comforting like a mother's love.
Joshua dodged Odin's swings he then noticed a large shadow lurking under the water. It can't be! He thought. Suddenly a serpentine like creature jumped out of the water a large tidal wave slamming into Odin. ______! Leviathan! Joshua was in utter disbelief to see your Dominant taking the battlefield. The way you maneuvered in and out the water was breathtaking. It could be describe as watching a ballet dancer, your movements were graceful and precise everything was done with a purpose. With new found strength you and Joshua battled Odin but yet it would not be enough. He was too strong for you and Joshua's fragile states—you both had not yet fully recovered from your injuries from the Dominion. It was the Phoenix who went down first as he took the force from Odin's slice. The sea had parted it was unlike anything you had ever seen before. You noticed the ship beginning to fall into the parted sea and quickly pushed it away from the crater. Your body was exhausted and once everyone was safe you returned back to ship's deck soaking wet.
Night had fallen, the moon and Metia illuminating the sky. You sat with Joshua in the candlelit quarters below deck mending his surface wounds. "You should of never taken that directly. You could died." You scolded tightening the bandages. Joshua winced, "I had to protect everyone, I had to protect you." He mumbled in reply. You sighed shaking your head, "We're okay and that's all that matters. I'm positive Clive and Jill are too. Mid is looking really hard for the two." You said. Joshua only hummed in reply, he turned his head looking out of the small window watching the ocean waves gently swish back and forth. "You were brave for facing Odin ______. Whatever the extent of your fear towards Odin was it seems like you conquered it. I don't know what he did to you but I am happy that you came out to fight alongside me." He said turning to face you. He brushed his slender fingers through your silky hair pushing a stand behind your ear. He smiled warmly at you but you could not help but notice how beautiful he looked under the moonlight. The soft light illuminating his pale skin, you leaned forward pressing a kiss to his chapped lips before pulling away and touching foreheads. "Thank you."
~•••~
Jill, Clive, and Torgal were found stranded on the coast of Ash the next morning. You noticed how different the pair seemed perhaps something had happened between the two but dare not pry. Now that the two were safe it was time to sail back to the Hideaway. It was obvious to you that Joshua was not well—it seemed like these days he was often not feeling well and it greatly concerned you.
Upon arriving to the Hideaway you were met with distressing news. Without a second though you grabbed Tarja by the collar, "You let him go?! In his current state? He'll die!" You cried out. Clive went to pull you away but Tarja simply held her hand up stopping the man, she didn't flinch as she met your eyes, "He left there was nothing I could do to stop him, I'm sorry Princess." She explained. You let go of her collar and back away shaking your head as your hands covered your face. Dion was gone you weren't sure where he was but you could safely assume he was going back to the Crystalline Dominion. "I have to go find him." The panic began to set in as you began to walk down the steps towards the boatman. Clive chased after you only finally catching up when you were at the docks. "______, stop." He said sternly grabbing your forearm and forcing you to face him. His thick brows were furrowed and his grip was tight on your arm. You tried shaking him but to no avail. "You're being rash." He hissed through gritted teeth, "You're in no shape also to be chasing after his highness. You do not even know where he is. You know Dion best, correct? Then you must trust him to do what he needs to do." He said.
"Clive please I must go. Dion has been by my side through everything I can't abandon him. I can't let him face the destruction of the Dominion by himself. We both destroyed the city—" your pleading was cut short by Clive. "Joshua needs you!" He shouted. You were taken aback at the sudden outburst, mouth agape. "It's wrong to leave especially when Joshua is still resting." He added, his eyes were pleading. You broke out of the brunette's grasp and walked passed him, "Fine. You win. But leveraging Joshua against me was a dirty play Clive." You muttered returning back to upper levels of the hideaway passing by Jill on the way, she gave you a small smile mouthing "Thank you.". Clive stood watching you making sure you were really staying before he sighed rubbing his temples an audible groan leaving his lips. "______'s been put into a tough situation having to choose between Joshua or Dion whom was by her side for all these years. It was a little rude to make her choose." Jill's soft voice came from behind him. Clive shook his head, "Jill I—" he began. "But I'm glad you convinced her to stay, thank you." She added placing a gentle kiss to Clive's forehead.
~•••~
Evening came and Joshua was awake once again mended by Tarja. He sat next to you on the plush bed overlooking the lake, aqua eyes glistening ever so slightly from the moon's light bouncing off the water. Blond hair blowing gently from the breeze. You sat beside him, head resting on his bare shoulder, arms wrapped his. You wished moments like this could last forever but soon you'd be departing to Ash—an unknown territory. Greagor only knows what lies ahead you only prayed that nothing terrible would befall your beloved. You were selfish, you knew it and you were certain the others noticed. Joshua was first, you put him ahead of everyone and thing so if it meant him or everyone else living—you knew what decision you'd make. Perhaps that was why you felt even more nervous than usual about going to Ash; it wasn't King Barnabas who scared you necessarily, certainly he added onto your fear but this Ultima being something deep in you told you that the Phoenix—that Joshua was connected to him in some way just as was Clive or rather known as Mythos by Barnabas. It was for those very reasons that you could not stay behind and guard the Enterprise per Clive's orders you had to stay by Joshua's side.
"You look troubled my love." Joshua's gentle voice broke you out of your thoughts. His thumb rubbing circles on your the top of your hand. You did not meet his gaze, instead still focusing on the gentle waves ahead. "I am truth be told. I won't sit behind while you, Clive, and Gav venture into unknown territory. I can fight. Why can't you all see that? I'm a dragoon, I've been in many battles—I'm valuable." You confessed voice trailing off. The truth was you've felt you lost some purpose in your life after the Dominion fell. It was strange to not be awaiting orders from Dion. It was odd to be told what to do when you typically were the one giving orders, mapping out battle strategies. You felt insignificant in a way; no one batted an eye seeing you despite your status no one asked for your input despite your experience it was obvious you were an outsider here at the Hideaway; Joshua was the only reason for you staying here. If it meant being at his side you'd be with him even in the worse place of all an eternal Purgatory.
Joshua sighed nodding, "I figured that was what was botherin' you. Very well I have no complaints with you being by my side. I know you're capable, in fact I believe you may be the most skilled person here." He said. You huffed blowing the strand of hair that laid on your face up a pout making its way to your lips, "You flatter me Joshua." You couldn't help but smirk. Joshua seemed rather pleased with himself and nudged your side with his elbow, "There we go. You look much prettier when you're not pouting around." He laughed softly. "So you'll accomplish me to the ancient ruins? I'm afraid they won't be too interesting." He asked. "Obviously they're interesting enough if you wish to explore them—so of course I'll go with you. I was going to regardless." You smiled. You were also curious on what the ancient ruins would hold in store, you only prayed that they'd hold good news instead of the latter.

How long had it been since you had fallen into your coma? Joshua had lost count on purpose. He sat in a chair next to your sleeping form, you looked so peaceful. The bruising and injuries you had endured during your fight with Odin now were faint though Joshua knows that you’d be scarred physically and mentally. He ran his slender calloused fingers through your hair brushing your hair out of your face, his fingers caressed your cheek then jaw. The sound a door creaking open made him look up, it was Jote standing there with a tray of warm food.
“Your highness you must take care of yourself also.” The brunette spoke softly setting to tray beside him. Joshua sighed he gaze returning to your sleeping body. He had been by your side for almost every second since you came to the Undying hideaway. He was so scared that if he took his eyes off of you, you’d disappear again. This time he wouldn’t let you go like he did last time. “Jote will she ever awaken…or was I too late?” He asked his voice was raspy no doubt from the countless silent tears he shedded for you when he thought no one was looking. “Your highness please don’t blame yourself. The nurses have said she’ll make a full recovery we must just give her time to heal both her mind and body. Barnabas did not hold back on her but his intention also was not to kill her.” She tried to reassure him. Joshua swore if ever saw Barnabas he’d kill the King himself for what he did to you, he knew not why Odin didn’t kill you but regardless he was somewhat thankful that wasn’t his intention.
“I’ll eat later Jote thank you.” Joshua said dismissing Jote. She quickly bowed her head and left the room leaving you two alone. The quiet ticking from a mechanical clock, a flame from lantern flickering, and your labored breaths was all he heard it was sound he came accustomed to though he only wished your strained breaths were replaced by your laughter instead.
Another week has passed when you had finally awoken in the late hours of the night. Joshua’s head laid asleep in his arms on the corner of your bedside, a pen and journal sprawled beside him. You stirred awake eyes fluttering open and close as your mind tried process what was happening then suddenly you jerked awake panic beginning to set in as you scrambled off the bed falling down onto the wooden floorboards with a loud thud a panicked scream left your mouth as you begun to crawl backwards into a corner after only realizing you had no strength to get to your legs. “_______! _______! It’s okay!” A voice shouted but your eyes were squeezed shut arms placed defensively in front of you as you huddled in the corner. The door to the room slammed open multiple people rushing in just as Joshua rushed to your side. he was terrified to touch you not wanting to frighten any more.
Your mind raced you were captured by Barnabas and you were going to face no doubt endless torture by him. You curled into a ball tucking your head into your knees arms placed on top of you. “Your highness!” A female’s voice shouted. Joshua was on his knees beside you he wanted to hold you but the moment his hand touched your shoulder you flinched letting out a cry. He had never seen you in such a state before not even when you were children. You were always so brave…bold and to see you cowering in a corner sobbing uncontrollably it broke him. He snapped his head in the direction of the Undying members, “Out! You all are scaring her even more.” He shouted uncharacteristically. The Undying quickly bowed leaving the room to only you two.
“_______, look at me please. I’m not Barnabas. You’re safe here.” He tried to soothe you but to no avail. “It’s me Joshua, ______. I’m here.” He spoke softly this time you looked up hesitantly. Your grey bloodshot eyes meeting his comforting ocean blue gaze. Then you saw the tufts of blond hair that sat messily on his head, his lips were formed into a gentle small, brows furrowed ever so slightly in concern. I’m dead. It was the first thought that came to your mind, this person in front of you was no doubt Joshua albeit much older then when you had last seen him but it was him. He was greeting you in death. No, you knew you weren’t dead you were just trying to process who you were seeing in front of you so with hesitant shakey hands you reached out to caress his face. Joshua leaned instinctively in your palm before he couldn’t hold back anymore and he brought you into his warm embrace. Your neck was wet from he buried his face and you realized he was crying—no sobbing his body shook with every sob. You then wrapped your arms around him sobbing into his shoulder. Your nails dug into the fabric of his shirt holding so tightly as if he would disappear and you’d wake up from this dream.
“Joshua…please tell me this is real life. That I’m not dreaming..that I’m not dead.” You said in between cries. He pulled away from neck and his hands cupped your face, “It’s not _______. This is real I finally found you.” a laugh mixed with a sob left his swollen lips he was smiling. You joined his laughter and nodded, “I’ve dreamt of this moment for so long Joshua. I…always knew deep down you were not dead.” You confessed pulling him in for another hug.
You have no idea how long had passed as you two held one another letting the years build up of tears fall until finally no more could. Slowly you two pulled away Joshua standing up and holding his hands out to you as helped pull you up. Your legs wobbled as you tried to stand on your own and you fell but quickly Joshua caught you in his arms guiding you back to your bed. “Please tell me how you found me. I truly believed I was to die in that forest. Tell me your story Joshua.” You said never letting go his hand. He nodded sitting beside you on your bed and he laced his fingers with yours before he began to speak, “It’s a long story…”
~•••~
So it seems that members of the Undying had connections in all of Valisthea and that they were also keeping a close eye on your per Joshua’s request. You had also found out Clive was still alive though branded and a solider but Joshua said he was getting closer to finding out his brother’s whereabouts. He had been found at Phoenix gate by the Undying who helped nurse him back to health as they did for you. Speaking of which, Joshua had followed the rumors that Barnabas was planning a sneak attack on you for what actual reasons you were still unsure about but it seemed as if he wanted to test you for one reason or another so he aided the Dhalmekians with soldiers as they went to attack Dion’s side of the boarder. You had also found out that no one but you survived the attack, Odin had killed them all. In the month you had been in a coma Garuda was also slain by what Joshua believes is to be Clive.
You had grown accustomed to living amongst the secretive people of the Undying. Your body was still weak and you weren’t allowed to go out in case you were recognized so you stayed indoors most days healing slowly. The nightmares of your near death experience with Odin plagued your sleep so Joshua continued to stay by your side often holding you as slept. But you two confessed your love for one another nor brought up the marriage pact you two had made as children; it was as if you and Joshua were scared to possibly get rejected by the other so instead you stayed silent. Today was no different than any other day you awoke in the early morning from a nightmare of Joshua disappearing and he was there at your bedside to comfort you. When you both realized you weren’t going to be able to fall back asleep Joshua stood up to help you get ready for the day. He unbraided your long (h/c) hair beginning to run a brush through it as you looked at him from the mirror. Something was off about him though today. “Joshua what’s wrong?” You asked yawning.
He stayed silent as he continued brushing your hair before finally speaking. “I’ve been wondering _______….about your marriage to Prince Dion. How has it been? Does he treat you well?” He asked pausing for a moment to see your reaction. You met his gaze in the mirror and shrugged, “It’s a purely political marriage. We care for one another but aren’t in love. When I awoke as Leviathan my parents realized I had to leave the Dominion. So my choices were be married off or made a slave to older men or accept Emperor Sylvester’s proposal for me to marry Dion and serve the Holy Empire. I think my father thought marrying me to Dion would give me a chance that we would fall in love and I’d live happily ever after. But he’s in love with a man and I’m a Dominant for Greagor’s sake! I’ll never live happily ever after if war doesn’t kill the bloody curse will.” You groaned in frustration. You lifted up your finger pointing at the tip, “See it’s already claimed my damn finger tips.” You sighed. The last battle had forced you to use a lot of aether which began the curse. Joshua frowned taking a seat beside you, “It’s not too bad it’s only one hand and your finger tips. You’ll just have to be careful.” He traced his slender fingers over the hardened grey finger tips and then reached up placing a kiss on each finger. Your face heated up and you quickly pulled your hand away from him, your heart was beating wildly.
Before any more could be said between you the door slammed open Jote hurrying in, “Milord..milady.” She bowed her head before turning to Joshua, “It is time. They are making a move, we just hurry to Oriflamme.” She said. Oriflamme? What for? You thought. Joshua stood up nodding, “Right begin preparations Jote I’ll be ready soon.” He ordered Jote nodded rushing out. “______, it is time I return you back home.” He said hesitantly. You got to your feet shaking your head, “N-no I can’t go home not now. You won’t come with me will you?! I’ll be alone again.” You began to panic. Joshua pulled you in his embrace, “______, it will only be for a short time. Clive and Cid are making their way there. He’s to destroy the mother crystal. I have to protect him from…someone who wishes to harm him. I trust you understand?” He explained pulling back his hands resting on your shoulders.
Of course you couldn’t stay here forever…you were Princess and a Dominant. The whole Empire was probably searching for you.

Suffering a face wound wasn’t a good look especially for someone of your status needless to say your parents weren’t pleased and you received a scolding for what felt like an eternity. You tried to justify why you had wandered off but it fell on deaf ears so you laid pouting in the carriage your mother reading a book ignoring your fit. One of the bearers had managed to heal the wound partially but you still had a large cut across your left cheek. “Sit up _______, we’re approaching Rosaria.” Your mother said putting down her book. “Your hair…goodness I knew I should of brought Tatiana.” She muttered running her hands through your wild hair. You paid no attention to her complaining as you eagerly looked at the window the view of the castle coming in view.
The carriage came to stop and the doors were opened by a couple of knights. You pushed past your mother, ignoring the outstretched hand from the knight to help you down. Your mother on the other hand chuckled gracefully taking the knight’s hand and stepping out of the carriage a delicate hand holding hem of dress up as to not step on it. “______ dear come here.” Your father motioned for you come to him as he greeted the Rosfields. You did a curtsy bowing your head, “Hello milord..milady.” You greeted. Standing back up straight you then locked eyes with the very person you were excited to see. Joshua. He stood next to Lady Annabella a smile on his face as he looked at you. “I apologize Lord Elwin…Lady Annabella for how ______ looks. She was attacked by a wild hound.” Your mother appeared by your side also bowing. “Hmm I see.” Lady Annabella said a tinge of disgust laced in her voice. Lord Elwin laughed warmly, “Oh I see. Well Lady Marianne there is now reason to apologize as long as young _______ is safe then that’s all that matters. Come let’s go inside, I’ll have the maids take your luggage to your rooms.” He said motioning for everyone to follow him inside.
~•••~
After a very boring dinner with the Rosfields that was just full of political banter you were finally released to do as you pleased while the adults discussed important matters. Exchanging a nod with Joshua the two of you bounced out of your chairs rushing out of the dining hall. Finally you two stopped to catch your breath and stared at one another before you burst into a giggling fit. “That was soo boring!” You laughed leaning against a wall. “Well when our fathers get talking they talk about the most boring things.” Joshua stifled his laughter with his hand as a knight walked past the two of you. As the laughter died down it was only then you realized the sun had set sighing you rubbed your cheek, “What should we do now?” You asked curiously tilting your head. The blonde boy hummed in thought for a few moments before taking your hand in his, “There’s this spot in the garden that’s really secluded and you get a really good view of the sky. Let’s go there we have lots to talk about.” He smiled warmly as he pulled you along.
Arriving in the garden Joshua let go your hand, “It doesn’t seem very secluded and you can hardly see the sky over the banners.” You pouted feeling lied. He shook his head pointing a finger at a small gap underneath a bush, “No silly we have to crawl under that bush and the gate and then we’ll be in the perfect spot.” He said quickly getting to his hands and knees and disappearing from your sight you followed after him, emerging on the other side of the gate sat a small fluffy patch of grass hanging over a small cliff. It really was the perfect spot sitting down beside Joshua you looked at the night sky. Silence passed between the two of you before he spoke, “So you must tell me the real story of how you got that cut.” He said eagerly awaiting your version of the story. Your feet dangled off the ledge, “Well it started when we got held up and I hadn’t ever been along this route before so I decided to explore. I wasn’t even that far from everyone but regardless I picked some flowers and then I saw this shiny thingy. So I went to grab it and then a hound attacked me! It wasn’t like Torgal it was real ugly. But me father killed the hound and I still got the shiny thing.” You explained rummaging through your dress pocket and pulling out the white sphere. It glowed a light blue hue and you heard Joshua gasp. “Is that somethin from the Ancients?” He asked amazed. Nodding you tossed the sphere at your friend, “Think so. It’s yours Joshua I knew you’d like it.” You smiled. Shaking his head blonde hair fell in front of his eyes, “No ______ I can’t! I don’t even have a gift for you.” He frowned trying to place the sphere back in your hand but you crossed your arms balling your fists, “Nuh uh…it’s for you.” You shook your head back and forth finally the blonde prince sighed in defeat and accepted your gift.
Some time had passed as the two of you chattered nonstop but you noticed a sudden shift in Joshua’s mood. “What’s wrong?” You asked a frown now on your lips. He sighed, “I just don’t understand why you have to live so far away. I wish we could be together more often.” He said quietly playing with the sphere absentmindedly. A weird feeling filled your chest and you adverted your gaze from his ocean blue eyes. “I..I know I wish I could just stay here forever with you. I like being here…when I go home I always feel alone. Your my best friend Joshua.” You confessed shyly. Without warning Joshua grasped your hands in his and he smiled widely his eyes glimmering, “Well then when we’re a little bit older we can get married then we’ll always be together. Because married people have to stay close to one another.” He chimed. By the gods! That was brilliant! You thought to yourself. Eagerly you nodded, “Of course I’m not sure why we hadn’t thought of that before! I’ll tell my parents and you tell yours, okay!?” You exclaimed. The two of you had come to an agreement, it was the perfect plan.
~•••~
Days had passed since you had arrived to Rosaria and you had spent every moment relishing it. Your father and Duke Elwin had matters to attend so they were gone you were unsure of when they’d be back. You sat with Jill and Joshua watching Clive train with the Lord Commander. Jill laughed softly as Joshua told her about the agreement you two had made. “Oh my that’s a big commitment don’t you two know?” She asked warmly trying to not giggle. You nodded, “Yes of course. We’re best friends so why wouldn’t we get married so we can always be together? That’s what friends are ‘posed to do.” You stated. “Like you and Clive are best friends so you two will get married right?” Joshua asked. Jill gasped and her face turned bright red Torgal barked at the two of you. “Well I…I don’t think the two of you understand marriage completely.” She stammered. Clicking your tongue you rolled your eyes, “No Jill I think you don’t.” You declared. Jill sighed deciding that she was fighting a loosing battle with the two of you, “Perhaps ______ perhaps.” She said defeatedly. Joshua and you exchanged a proud look but before anymore could he said you heard Clive shout triumphantly as he had just bested the Lord Commander for the first time. Cheers erupted you joining them in cheering for Clive. He made his way over towards the three of you and panted. “Clive good job!” You exclaimed he looked at you with a lazy smile and ruffled your hair. Joshua hopped down from the fence post he was sitting on, “Good job Clive. Oh your wounds-let me heal them for you.” He said before Clive got a chance to say anything Joshua began healing but quickly he fell weak.
He coughed and you quickly jumped down from the fence wrapping your arms around his shoulders. “Joshua!” You cried worriedly. Clive frowned, “Joshua you shouldn’t be doing that. You’re already sick.” He spoke with a hint sadness laced in his tone. Your grey eyes were watering, you hadn’t realized Joshua had gotten so sick in the months you two had been apart…why hadn’t he told you?
~•••~
Your time was cut short with the Rosfields, your father telling you it was time to go that your family couldn’t be here. You didn’t understand at first why you couldn’t go to the Phoenix Gate with Joshua to cheer him on it was only when your father sat you down and explained that the Crystalline Dominion was a neutral country and couldn’t be here when Rosaria went to war with the Iron Kingdom it would be far too dangerous for your family. Was this the reason why my family took a last minute visit to Rosaria? Because it may be the last time I see them? War? Neutrality? None of it made sense to me…your mind raced. The thought of possibly losing Joshua was far too much for your young heart to bear, especially not after the promise you two made.

 warnings - violence
You were now twenty three years of age the hooded man you had met so many years ago still lingered in your mind every now and then but you could never thinking of him for long something about his being was strange and so familiar. His cadence was so familiar, how he spoke to you was gentle as if he already knew you. But now wasn’t time to think about him you were sent to the southern border of Sanbreque to monitor the growing tensions between the Holy Kingdom and Dhalmekia. You sat in your tent scrolls of maps and war strategies sprawled out in front of you on the large wooden table. Your ink pen tapped rhythmically against the tabletop as examined the map in front of you. War time strategies was not an unfamiliar subject to you anymore in fact it seemed like all you had time to think of. “If they attack from here…then…” you mumbled moving the wooden pieces across the map trying to pin point where exactly Dhalmekia would try to to attack.
“Lady ______! Our scouts have spotted the Dhalmekia army moving in from the eastern front.” A knight came rushing in out of breath. You immediately jumped out of your chair grabbing your sword, “It’s time then let’s deal with them before they get close to the Dominion.” You said coldly as you followed the knight out of your tent. “Captain Rodrick give me a run down.” You pointed at the Dragoon squad commander who quickly joined your side as you made haste towards your Chocobo. “Milady it’s a small army, scouts estimate less than 1,000 but what we found troubling is that they’re joined by a few elite Waloeden soldiers.” He explained. You nodded, “Mercenaries by chance?” You asked. “Most likely not. But milady they aren’t that many we can handle them ourselves allow yourself to—“ he began but you quickly cut off him off, “If I sit back unnecessary casualties will occur on our side. I’ll deal with them myself swiftly. Send a messenger owl to Dion just to warn him that our enemies may be planning something.” You said dismissing the captain.
Mounting your chocobo a small group of soldiers followed you to make contact with the enemy forces. You made your way to a cliff side that oversaw the valley below and there you stopped a small army moving towards you. “I’ll go handle them. The rest of you make sure no stragglers bypass us.” You said nonchalantly hopping off your chocobo you unsheathed your sword, the silver blade reflecting the sun’s rays. You hated war—you hated killing. It never got easier with time as you found most screamed for their loved ones in their final moments. It always made your shudder to think what Joshua had said before he was killed. So to protect your sanity you blocked off any emotion and avoided looking any of your enemies in the eye. You became a cold husk on the battlefield it was unlike your usual self. Even Dion had remarked how cold you had gotten throughout the years. “Let’s get this over with..” you sighed transforming only partially into Leviathan. Your skin turned a glowing pale blue, grey eyes shone brightly, and flowy blue and white fins jutted from out your back. Quickly you glided down to the enemy forces and summoned a large wave quickly knocking the enemies off their feet. As the first solider charged at you, you quickly glided away with ease turning back around to land a devastating slice across their chest. Just don’t look at them _________….you reminded yourself.
It was only after you had slayed a couple of hundred of them did you realize they were all bearers. None of them were proper soldiers it was strange. You looked at their fallen bodies and each one had the familiar brand then you looked at the ones still alive they also were branded. They looked terrified not if you but of someone else. “Please kill us.” An elderly bearer spoke. His frail body was had already been nearly taken away over by the curse, in fact all of them were! Then without a warning a glowing dark red and black sliced across the whole of the enemy forces then their bodies dropped blood spraying in the air drenching you in the warm crimson liquid. You were stunned paralyzed in fear, every primal instinct in your body was telling you to run that an apex predator was making its way towards you and you stood no chance but you couldn’t move. Your sword held limply in your grasp as you heard booming armored footsteps making their way towards you. Only then did you see him. King Barnabas of Waloed stood before you his body cloaked in black armor his red sword illuminated by his side. I’m going to die here…I can’t defeat Odin. I’m not Bahamut. The dread began to fill your thoughts but your face remained stotic.
“I finally get the chance to see Leviathan for myself, it appears my scouts were correct. I see Bahamut is not here to protect you, Princess.” He spoke in his heavy Waloeden accent an amused smirk playing on his lips. You tightened your grip on your sword, “No but I don’t need him.” You retorted coldly. Water encircled your body it growing ever more powerful by the second. This was life or death. Barnabas stepped closer towards you but he didn’t raise his sword in fact he seemed rather amused. “My only desire is too see how you compare to the last dominant of Leviathan. If you die in the process then you are not worthy of being one with Mythos” He stated. What the hell is he talking about…Mythos? the last Leviathan dominant? He knew all along you and Dion would be spilt up. Odin was supposed to be near Twinside’s boarders not here.
You had never met the King before but the rumors seemed to live up. He was strange but his presence was intimidating. Dion had battled against him only a few times before and every time after he came out of battle victorious but severely injured. Your head was pounding as you tried to analyze the situation how to get out this alive but the King’s fanatic religious ramblings made it hard for you concentrate finally you snapped. “Just shut your mouth Odin we shall see who’s the victor here.” You sheathed your sword and closed your eyes allowing the Leviathan to take form. A tornado made of roaring waves formed engulfing the battlefield and when the waves cleared there stood Leviathan’s serpent like form long razor sharp fins littered its back and with every flap it sent forward powerful winds. You knew you were at a total disadvantage as you were miles away from the ocean it possible to regain the upper hand if you could lead Barnabas towards the ocean you could win this or at least come out alive!
The sky turned dark and a red light shot from the sky stormy clouds surrounded a large form and once the clouds cleared there stood Odin on top of his black steed. It felt as if time stood still as the Dominants examined one another.
But it was Odin who made the first move he came charging towards you sword raised but using the wave you slithered behind him a screeching roar leaving Leviathan’s jagged mouth as you sent forward roaring waves of water. It only seemed to stun the King for a brief moment as he steadied himself on his steed taking the full force of the waves. Taking the opening you plunged through waves mouth open teeth bearing but Odin jumped aside sending your Dominant flying into the side of a cliff. Rock crumbled on top of you the water surrounding your form only barely slowing it. Your mind was racing as your eyes darted around the battlefield looking for Odin it was only when you heard a loud thunderous neighing from you right side did you see him charging right at you. Summoning a swirling wave you shot upwards but you were too slow. Odin’s stinging blade pierced through the armored scales that adorned Leviathan blood spraying from your side. A shriek echoed through the valley as you escaped towards the ocean. The ocean was in sight you felt relief wash over you as more water pooled around you spinning you summoned a large tidal wave that stretched for miles and with a flap from your fins you sent it rushing towards Odin. For minutes the roaring waves slammed into the Dominant with no mercy when the waves finally dissipated you saw Odin hunched over on his steed sword dangling limply in his hand. Now was your opportunity to strike! Propelling yourself forwards in a spinning motion you barreled towards his weak form.
Taking a bite of out his armor you turned around noticing a trail of blood mixed in the water stream behind you. Leviathan had been nearly sliced in half. As your Dominant began to dissipate you fell rushing towards the earth below where once stood Odin now stood a floating King Barnabas as we watched you from behind his helmet plummeted to the forest below. You were blacking in and out but managed to using a wall of water to cushion your fall. A gasp left your swollen bruised lips as the water disappeared now you laid on the grass your pale grey eyes stared blankly at the cloudy stormy skies faint raindrops falling on your (skin color) complexion. Then you saw him from your peripheral. Barnabas’ face wasn’t obscured by his helmet anymore, he walked towards you sheathing his sword thick dark brows knitted together in disappointment. You began to crawl backwards trying to get away from him but you too weak. Your body was bloodied and bruised you couldn’t move fast enough. Then he stood above you kicking your side with armored boot. A gasp left your lips blood spraying, you rolled to your side trying to avoid the next kick. Then another kick came this time your abdomen taking the brunt of it.
“You’re weak Leviathan. I take no pleasure in killing you, not now.” He spat. You stared at him blankly as he leaned down crabbing your collar pulling you close to his face. His breath smelled metallic and it was then you realized a drop of blood slid pooled at the corner of his mouth. I did some damage them…you thought proudly. “Next time we meet I pray that you are stronger for Mythos’ sake.” He then dropped your limp body to the ground your head slamming against the forrest’s floor. A woman’s voice shouted and he stood up leaving your limp bloodied body there.
You were in and out of consciousness as you stared at the sky through the trees. The sounds of birds chirping and rain hitting the leaves was all you heard. It was so peaceful. I don’t deserve to die so peacefully..I never gave anyone of my enemies the same luxury. Joshua didn’t die peacefully so why should I? As dusk began to set you finally accepted your death.
“Oh thank the flames!” A muffled voice shouted as they came rushing towards you. Your vision was blurred as you felt someone pick you up in their arms. “________, you’re going to be okay. I’ve got you now.” The voice said. Your head laid limply against their chest and tried to look to see who was carrying you. “I was afraid I wouldn’t get to you in time…” the voice broke it sounded like they were crying. As your vision cleared for a brief second you then saw the one person you had longed for all these years. “Jo…Joshua…” you managed to croak out before your vision went black.
I really am dead and you greeted me Joshua.

You had come to hate the hate the words fate, destiny, purpose. You had even begun to despise the very concept of a God. If fate-destiny were real and then why were you given the short end of the stick. Eight long years had passed since you awoke as the Dominant of Leviathan yet your family only visited a couple of times though you didn’t know if it was by choice. Tatiana had retired soon after your departure from the Dominion your mother saying it was conflict issues which pushed her away. Eight long years since you were married off, and eight long years since Joshua’s passing. It still did not get easier with time but you found yourself thinking less and less about him as time passed. Perhaps it was your mind protecting you from the inevitable pain that always came when you thought of that day. only ten years old when you lost what you had now realized the love of your life. It wasn’t fair but that’s how life goes; you wouldn’t be first nor the last person to lose someone they loved. But Life in the Empire was proved to be rather good—easy going you lived an even more lavish lifestyle then you did back in the Dominion, though it was to be expected since you were engaged to the future Emperor of the Holy Empire. You hatred towards Dion lessened the more time you spent with him and now you considered him your closest friend. You two weren’t lovers no you both understood that you were put into a political marriage. It still made you laugh though when you confessed to to Dion some years ago that you had grown feelings for him; you now blame your hormones. But that is not to say you two don’t engage in playful flirting with one another to keep up the facade you both are in love.
“D-Dion…I think perhaps I may have some feelings for you but I do not know if it’s only because we spend so much time with one another and we’re to be married.” You confessed shyly to the Prince. Dion’s amber eyes widened in shock his face beet red. Immediately you regretted your decision to tell him your feelings. Huffing in annoyance you turned on your heels beginning to walk away flustered. “W-wait ______!” He called out grabbing your wrist. “Please let me say something at least.” He sighed rubbing his temples. You raised a brow motioning when your hand for him to hurry and speak.
“I…promise to keep this a secret between you and I.” He began awaiting for your response. You nodded, “Alright I promise I suppose.”
“I care for you deeply not because we are to married but I do not feel romantic feelings towards…uh…um….women?” He said quietly. Your grey eyes widened and you quickly covered your mouth with your hands trying to suppress your surprise. “You see Sir Terence and I, we have recently confessed our feelings towards one another. We are in a secret relationship and now you know our secret. I trust it will remain that way, yes?” Dion asked hesitantly scared of how you might reply. Suddenly it all made sense, they always spent time with one another you noticed the small differences in their personalities when they were around one another. Then you began to giggle tears pooling at the corner of your eyes. “________?”’ Dion asked. Shaking you head you used your fingers to wipe the tears away, “I’m okay Dion. I just should of assumed you two were together, with all the time you spend around one another. Your secrets safe with me your highness.” You have him a close eyed smile. Of course the one another person you felt safe with was in love with someone else; not that you blamed the Prince you didn’t love him that way either it was you just coping with the loss of your lovely dear friend Joshua. Dion had gotten to know you that he now understood why you were crying he smiled sympathetically pulling you into his warm embrace.
~•••~
“Your lance work is awful ______.” Dion laughed as he came behind you pressing his broad chest against your back his calloused hands wrapping around yours as he adjusted your grip on the metal lance. He used his foot to spread your legs into a defensive stance. Your thin (color) brows furrowed together in annoyance. “Well you know I’m better off with a damn sword anyways. That’s the difference between you and I; you’re a Dragoon and I am humble swords lady.” You spoke a tinge of amusement playing on your plump lips. Stepping back Dion laughed once again, “Humble? Not the word I’d use to describe you.” He smirked watching as you gripped the lance uncomfortably in your hands. “Dion enough you’re flustering our humble princess.” Terence scolded light heartedly, he stood a few feet in front of you holding the metal lance in his hands—it was far more natural looking when he held the weapon.
Finally having enough of their teasing you decided to go for it, dashing towards the brunett you raising your lance in the air ready to strike. This was the perfect opportunity! You caught him off guard but in a spilt second you fell to the ground your weapon flying away from you before landing with a loud metal clink. “What how?!” You couldn’t believe it how did you get bested when you had the advantage!? Terence leaned down offering his hand for support which you took rather aggressively, once to your feet you began to pout childishly. “Terence won because he never lets his guard down ______. You’re too brazen that’s why you lost against Garuda last time. If I hadn’t been there who knows what would of happened. You think because Leviathan can move quickly and you have a size advantage you can win but take your defeat against Garuda as a lesson. I won’t always be there to aid you. I’m sure father will soon enough have us on different fronts.” Dion’s playful demeanor was gone now, he spoke so seriously you could tell he was concerned for your well being. He didn’t care that you were Dominant he cared because you were human—a close friend.
It was embarrassing to be scolded nonetheless so you fixated your gaze on the stone ground kicking your foot at the ground. “I..I know this Dion. I’ll get stronger you don’t have to worry about me.” You tried to reassure him with a smile. Terence broke the tension placing an arm around both you and Dion’s shoulders, “Ah we’ll mistakes happen and we grow from them. Come let’s get cleaned up for dinner.” He beamed leading the three of you out of the training grounds.
Dinner with royal family of Sanbreque was awfully boring especially for you. It reminded you a lot of the dinners you had with the Rosfields the men talking about things you could care less about. You gazed at the empty seat in front of you imagining a fully grown Joshua sitting there making faces at you or mouthing things to make you laugh. You wondered if he would still hate carrots. Duchess Annabella had “graced” Oriflamme with her presence bringing her new son Olivier who absentmindedly sat in her lap as she cooed over him petting his head as she fed him bites of food. You found their relationship so odd she never doted on Joshua like that; perhaps she dealing with her own grief for her children’s death which led to form a strange bond with her new child. Regardless you found the young prince strange. He seemed to have noticed you staring at him and he locked eyes with you. He had the same cold stormy ocean eyes like his mother. Quickly you adverted his gaze finishing up your food poking Dion’s side you leaned towards his ear. “I am finished here. I’m going to take a walk I’ll be back later tonight if you need me.” You whispered before standing up. Dion turned to you nodding, “Of course I shall come visit you before I turn in for night.” He smiled pressing a kiss to your hand before returning back to his conversation with his father. You couldn’t help but roll your eyes, one keeps up the facade as a lover so well.
~•••~
Sneaking out of the castle was quite difficult but it seemed like tonight most of the guards had gotten themselves drunk as tomorrow was. Sanbreque holiday. You heard the guards singing drunkly next to a fire which was your queue to slip into the night unnoticed. Pulling up your dress you got to your knees crawling under a small gap in the fencing and reappearing on the other side. You tossed the hood of your shawl over your head and pulled it close to blend into the crowd. The streets were lined with people celebrating most drunk others dancing but this isn’t what you were looking for you continued on. Before long you were on the outskirts of Oriflamme. it was quiet surrounded by tall trees and the sounds of the night and ocean waves were all you heard. It was so peaceful out here away from the constant eyes of the capital. You always sneaked out when you got a chance to retreat to a secluded beach that you were sure only few knew after all it was quite a chore to get to. Kicking off your boots and lifting the hem of your dress up you stepped into the cold ocean water the sand beneath your feet tickling your toes.
Your grey eyes glimmered the stars reflecting in them as you gazed at the bright red star next to the moon. The wind blew off your hood but you didn’t care you continued looking at the star. “Joshua….Metia still shines on…I hope it’s a sign that you’re still here watching over me…that you’re not truly gone..” you spoke barely above a whisper. You walked along the shore shifting through the sand whenever something caught your eye then suddenly you heard something rushing towards you a scream of surprise escaping your lips as you fumbled for your dagger. a group of lizard like monsters rushing towards you as one jumped at you managed to pull your dagger out stabbing it’s throat it’s limp body causing you crash into the ocean’s water. Groaning you pushed the lizard off of you trying to get to your feet but your dress was soaked which dragged you down. As a another lizard rushed you, you prepared for the worse but it never came. “Milady are you injured?” A panicked voice asked. You slowly opened your eyes and saw a hooded man in front of you.
“I’m…I’m okay stranger thank you for coming to my aid.” You replied a heavy sigh leaving your lips. The man held his hand out to help you up which you took gratefully. “Oh my…I ruined my dress.” You mumbled under your breath. It was soaking wet, torn, and dark lizard blood soaked it. You began to wring out your dress trying your best to get it dry. “Milady my friend and I have a campsite with a fire set up not too far away from here if you’d like to come warm up.” The man said. You turned to take a good look at him but he still has his hood on. You shook your head, “No i shouldn’t. I should return back to the castle.” You began walking over to grab your boots. “The castle?” He asked. You froze staring wide eyed at him, “A..ah yes. You see…I’m a maid there. I just like to take walks on the beach to clear my mind.” You tried to quickly cover up your mistake. “You speak quite formally and wear such nice clothes for being a maid.” He retorted amusement in his tone.
You began to walk away boots and dagger in tow. Shit I messed up. I’m about to get robbed or held for ransom. You thought panic rising. “Milady you’re the Princess of Sanbreque, aren’t you?” He asked you paused turning to slowly face him your hand firmly on your dagger, “Yes what about it? If you’re going to hold me for ransom I’m afraid you’d be risking your life.” You cautiously warned. Then he began to laugh softly shaking his head waving his hands dismissively, “Princess ______ I have no desire to harm you. You see I once knew the prince of Rosaria.”  He explained tossing his sword a few feet away from him. “What…you did?” You asked stepping closer to him sheathing your dagger. “You…knew Joshua or Clive?”
     “Both.”
     “Who are you?”
“It’s not important anymore I am nobody.“ He spoke sadly. You tried to catch a glimpse of the man’s face but he made sure you couldn’t see him. A peak of blond hair was all you could see you felt a pang of guilt wash over you, “Allow me to confide in you Sir Nobody, I still feel guilty for some odd reason about the events that transpired at Phoenix Gate. I wondered if I had awoken as Leviathan before if I would of been able to save everyone…save Joshua. I hope he forgives me for my marriage to Prince Dion. You see, we made a promise we’d get married but of course fate wouldn’t have that. You knew Joshua what do you think he’d say to me now?” You asked gazing again back at Metia.
“I think he’d forgive you and he’d be proud of you for who you are today. You’re strong Princess _______. You’ve been through so much yet you’ve prevailed through it all.” He responded his words were to sincere you began to cry but quickly you wiped your tears away. “I hope you’re right. I just get going now before the guards begin to panic. Maybe we’ll meet again one day stranger. Thank you for saving me.” You have the man a smile but as you took one last glance at him you saw a single tear fall down his face. Everything in your being you told you stay and talk to the man more but you were almost frightened to…afraid you’d see something you couldn’t handle.
~•••~
Joshua sat with Jote as she finished setting up camp and she began the fire to cook their very late dinner. He coughed bringing a hand to his chest to steady himself. “Your highness here your medicine.” Jote quickly came over handing him a vile of liquid to which he gratefully took. The bitter medicine hitting his taste buds he handed the vial back to Jote and sighed, “Thank you…” though a scream broke their comfortable silence Joshua quickly jumping up grabbing his sword. “Your highness wait!” Jote shouted beginning to chase after him but she was stopped when he yelled back, “Jote stay here I’ll be back.” He commanded before rushing through the dense woods. He has no idea why he felt like he being led towards the screams; it wasn’t normal for him to spring into action. He saw a group of monsters and quickly slayed them before he spotted a young woman cowering in the water. Pulling his hood over head he helped her up. He inquired about her, just something about the way she looked felt so familiar then he pried a little more it was then he realized he was speaking to _______ Lannis. His heart began beating faster as he tried to take in every single detail of her being, despite how much of a mess she looked to him she looked as beautiful as he always remembered. His staring must freaked her out as he noticed her gripping her dagger.
He wanted to rip his hood off tell her it was him! But no that would be cruel…to both of them they couldn’t be together either way. So with a heavy heart he kept himself concealed. When it came time for her to leave he fought the urge once again to grab her and tell her everything but he stopped himself. He clenched his hands into fists and fought back the tears that threatened to spill but one managed to escape just as she began to leave him. Joshua stood there long after _______ had left allowing the tears to spill. Life wasn’t fair. She was right there and yet he let her go. He was sick…dying what if that was the last time he’d ever be able to see _______? It was only when he heard Jote whisper his name that he finally let his hood fall. He turned to face Jote a sad smile and tears on his face.
“I saw her Jote. And I let her go. Damn it all..”

Stonehyrr you were finally here, Drake's spine glowing against the dark cloudy lightening filled sky as if it was a premonition of what was to happen. The streets were lined with decaying bodies it smelt awful. You covered your nose with your hand as you carefully walked over the bodies, fortunately it seemed like the corpses only littered the front half of the long bridge. "This is awful." You muttered. Joshua hummed in agreement but before any other conversation could begin roaring from ocrs echoed. Of course you were greeted by a hoard of Akashic and orcs but you all breezed through them without hardly as much breaking a sweat. The capital was so close you had no time to waste on Akashic. "We're almost there let's hurry." Joshua said quickening his pace as he came to the end of the bridge. Torgal ran ahead of the group abruptly stopping, his ears went back as he bared his fangs growling. Clive held his arm out stopping you and Joshua, "Wait." He said reaching for his sword. You followed his actions readying your lance as you got into a defensive position. "Up there!" Joshua shouted pointing his finger at the large horned monster that stood as one last obstacle on the gates that would lead you into the city. "A behemoth!" You and Joshua said in shocked unison. It's loud roar echoed through the air, the ground vibrating. It was madness to see a beast like that tamed—Barnabas, Ultima they truly were mad!
The beast didn't give any of you time to strategize, it's dark body glowed blue before it roared again fire balls forming in the sky as it was sent crashing down towards the group. Joshua was the first to react as he rushed forward, holding his hands up to form a shield around all of you but it barely held as the flames broke through raining around you and destroying the bridge—your only escape! Joshua collapsed to the ground, Clive rushing forward to help Joshua to his feet before the beast came down. It was do or die. Taking a deep breath you readied yourself. The beast lunged towards you first no doubt thinking you were the weakest target. You rolled out it's reach a wake of water trailing behind you, you were only mere inches from its grasp. Hurrying back to your feet you swung your lance sending sharp daggers of water at it. Joshua stayed back casting spells while Clive attacked it from behind, Torgal following Clive's commands. You were the distraction much to your dismay. Rolling, stabbing, spell casting, that was the rotation you were on having no time to think. You stumbled back once again narrowly avoiding the beast's grasp as you began to conjure water-Then suddenly without warning you were swept off your feet and tossed in the air a sharp pain shot through your abdomen as it's horn threatened to impale you. Then you slammed to the ground the breath getting knocked out of you. "______!" Clive and Joshua yelled but the monster gave them no time to check up on you as it jumped backwards roaring once again as it sent a giant fireball towards the group. Joshua rushed forward to conjure a ward but was too weak. Blood pooled at the corners of his mouth and he spat eventually collapsing to his knees hand gripping his chest as he tried to breathe. You could do nothing to help Joshua as you laid on the ground blood slowly oozing at the corner of your mouth—you were injured but you weren't sure where. Torgal circled you protectively howling as he tried to mend your wounds. This is it. You thought solemnly so close to the end but yet you all would die here from a behemoth.
Your ____ eyes watched as the two brothers joined forces their bodies illuminating a red orange glow. They managed to destroy the fireball thus saving them for the time being. You slowly got to knees using your lance for support, it wasn't dead yet but you couldn't lay on the ground as collateral. Grimacing through the pain you managed to only get one knee off the ground. As the beast tried to regain its momentum, Joshua took it as an opportunity to check on you. He turned his head and let out a startled gasp upon seeing your bloodied bruised body, "______, are you okay?!" He shouted. You waved him off, "I'm okay keep fighting!" You shouted back. You were in the way at this point a liability. "Go boy." You shooed off Torgal who whined in response. "I'll be okay." You tried to reassure the wolf. Taking a deep slow breath you held your hand over the water allowing it to take you under its surface. Leviathan dominants had the capability to breathe under the water for a short time at least. So you'd have to rest in the waves until you were strong enough or until they defeated the behemoth.
You floated in the cold water, eyes closed the water slowly mending your wounds. I'm getting weaker. You thought. In the past your wounds healed in a matter of minutes from being in the water but this wasn't taking minutes you were still bleeding dying the water red around you. Lifting your gloved right hand up you slowly opened your eyes, thick lashes clouding your vision. It was this damn curse that was causing you to grow weaker more useless. You wondered how it looked now how far it had spread. Closing your eyes again you sighed, I should rest. You thought.
Meanwhile, the behemoth had finally been slayed Joshua panted heavily as wiped his sword of blood. His eyes scanned around trying to find you but when he didn't he began to panic, "Torgal where's ______?!" He shouted. Torgal ran to the edge of the bridge where you had been as barked into the water. Clive and Joshua rushing over, Joshua dropped to his knees as he peered into the water he saw your body floating beneath the surface. You looked so serene so content. "______! Wake up! We must hurry!" He shouted. Torgal barking as Clive joined in shouting at you.
Muffled shouting is what drew you out of half asleep half awake state. You tried to ignore it, Stop I just want to sleep. You thought. "______, please wake up! I need you!" Joshua's voice shouted. It was that that shot you awake, you gasped as you saw him, Clive, and Torgal looking at you from the surface. I can't sit around feeling sorry for myself. People need me. You thought sighing you swam up to the surface you gasped for oxygen yet again another sign you were growing weak. "Take my hand." Joshua said reaching for you, you gratefully took it wincing in pain as he pulled you to the surface. You were soaking wet but with a snap of your fingers you used magic to pull the excess water from your clothes and body. You were practically dry again, "I apologize. Let us go." You nodded giving them a confident yet weak smile.
The waves of monsters did not let up as you all made your way closer and closer to the Crystal. The city was completely abandoned not a single soul left—it was devastating to see what was once a bustling kingdom be left to rot. It made you wonder what Barnabas truly saw in trusting Ultima. "We're so close." You said as the doors to the inner sanctum were within view. Your body was weak you just wished for this to end you weren't sure how much hoards of monsters you could handle. Clive sheathed his sword as did you and Joshua, it seemed like the boards of monsters had finally been cleared. Panting heavily you rest your palms on your knees as you caught your breath, "Just a little more my love and we're there." Joshua encouraged placing his hand on your back. You looked up at him offering the blond a lopsided smile but before you could speak Clive took out his sword, "There's more?!" He said in disbelief, "I'll use Ifrit." He began walking forward his body slowly glowing red. "No! You must save your strength!" Joshua warned. You straightened yourself out and shook your head, "No I'll use Leviathan you two go on ahead." You said sternly, letting the power course through your body you began to glow a dark blue. "No!" Joshua shouted this time he sounded distressed. He couldn't let you nor his brother use their Eikons it was too dangerous.
As you turned to face the blond to argue the ground began to shake then suddenly the wall blew open. Revealing the Enterprise! Out jumped your allies as they dealt devastating blows to the Akashic monsters  quickly dispelling all of them. Then your eyes landed on a familiar tuft of pale blond hair and you met warm amber eyes. You cried out dropping your lance as you rushed towards Dion jumping into his arms. You wrapped your arms around his chest and he held you tightly as you two embraced. "Dion! You're here! Thank goodness! Do you know how much you worried me?" You cried. Dion patted the back of your head chuckling as you two pulled apart, "I apologize for not telling you I was leaving ______. I had to go." He smiled warmly at you. You wiped your tears away shaking your head, "It's okay. I should of waited by your side but I—" you were cut off by him ruffling your hair, "It's okay no need to explain. I know you wanted to be by Joshua's side. I do not blame you at all." He said, his words were genuine as they always were when he spoke to you. "What of Terance and the Dragoons? Please tell me they are okay." You inquired worriedly. Dion nodded, "The Dragoons are fighting alongside Lord Byron. And as for.... Terance I dismissed him of his duty....in order to protect him." He explained but his voice wavered and gaze shifted at the mention of his lover. You knew better than to pry right now. "I understand." You simply said reaching out a hand and squeezing his bicep as a way to let the prince know you were there for him.
As everyone spoke a new found strength filled the group ever more excited to finally face with Ultima. But the reunion was cut short as a large swarm of Akashic began climbing over the walls. It felt never ending when it came to the Akashic beings—it was dreadful. A tough decision had to be made, you had to let Joshua go on ahead without you. You were in no shape to face against Ultima alongside Joshua and Clive so you stayed back, "Joshua just go please!" You shouted at him. He seemed panicked as he shook his head, "I..just don't do anything irrational. I'll be back _______!" He shouted as he rushed through the gates albeit hesitantly though he knew he had no time to argue he had to trust that you’d be safe.
Then, It happened so fast you heard Jill's scream and you spun on your heel just in time to see Joshua and Clive disappear in an instant Torgal jumping after them. You screamed as you rushed towards Ultima tears streaming down your face. He can't take Joshua away from you again! It wasn't fair! But Ultima disappeared with them without so much as glancing at you. You collapsed to your knees as Jill stood next to you. You buried your face in your hands as hot tears streamed down your face. "______, you must get up." She said her voice wavering as she tried to be strong. She was right the Akashic were unforgiving and you had to fight.
Wave after wave you all fought the Akashic monsters it seemed never ending but you noticed they slowly became more lethargic. You and Dion fought in unison. "Like the old days." You mumbled as you sliced through another fiend, Dion laughed in agreement. You two were perfectly in synched as you were used to each other’s fighting styles. "Oh fuck." Gav said snapping you two out of trance of fighting. You followed his gaze and eyes widened in shock, "What the..." you could only breathe out as you stared at the floating crystal in the sky. Jill noticed the aether flowing towards it, glowing streaks in flying through the air all to the point of origin. While in your daze Dion sliced through the two Akashic beings coming from behind you, you flinched as you closed ranks with the others. Then a ball of light manifested in front of you and suddenly Joshua, Clive, and Torgal were there looking just as confused as you all. "Joshua! Clive!" You and Jill shouted but it was Jill who rushed towards them. It was like a switch had been flipped fighting by Dion's side again you awaited his orders not daring to leave his side despite the urge to go rushing into Joshua's arms. You and Dion sliced at more Akashic as Clive yelled at Mid to start the ship. It was time to leave, now. "_____ come!" Joshua shouted motioning with his hand for you to follow. But you froze looking at the prince at your side. "Go I'll join you shortly." Dion ordered. You swallowed hard and nodded rushing towards Joshua and onto the ship.
Once on the ships decks you pulled Joshua into an embrace as you hugged him tightly burying your face in the crook of his neck. He was safe and he was here. "Thank goodness you're alright." You whispered as your hands ran through his hair. Joshua held you protectively in his arms, "I told you I wouldn't leave you alone again."

◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦
The Holy Empire of Sanbreque was already on the palace’s doorsteps by the time you finished getting dressed in the most fanciest of silk dresses you owned; and unsurprisingly your father greeted them with open arms. You watched in mild disgust as your father bowed to his knees to the Emperor acting as if the man was Greagor himself. It was strange to see your father act so pitifully, your senses were on high alert. Were the Imperials here to declare war on the Dominion for you being a Dominant? Perhaps they’d execute right here and now.
You shifted uncomfortably as your heel strap dug into the soft skin of your heel; Hands balled nervously at the fabric of your pale blue dress. Every time you swallowed the pearls around your neck tightened-it was suffocating. “Come _______ my dear.” Your father stood to his feet motioning you over but you didn’t move; you were weirded out by what was happening. It was only when Tatiana pushed you forward when you took your first steps towards the Emperor and your father.
You bowed half heartedly at the Emperor feeling your mother’s intense gaze from behind you. When you lifted your head there stood beside the Emperor was face you were familiar with, Prince Dion. He looked as uncomfortable as you were and he quickly avoided your gaze. Strange…he was normally so friendly to you at least the few times you had met. Which only alerted you even more to what was happening. It was then when you saw her. Lady Annabella standing beside Emperor Sylvestre you jumped in surprise. Her ocean blue eyes were as cold as ice they weren’t warm and inviting like Joshua’s. But her smile was warm it didn’t match her eyes.
“Emperor Sylvestre you have met my lovely daughter a few times, yes. She has blessed us; she awoke as the Dominant Leviathan and she is ready to serve the Empire to the best of her abilities.” Your father said a wide smile on his aging face. His words slammed into you like a brick wall. What did he mean?
“Huh?” You gasped eyes wide. Emperor Sylvestre turned to look at you smiling, “My dear you look as beautiful as always. I am pleased that you are eager to serve Sanbreque and her people. Here Dion come greet your future bride.” He said pushing Dion forward. Bride? No marriage was something you promised Joshua! Dion wasn’t even your best friend..hell he was barely a friend. You stumbled backward but before you fell to the ground a strong hand grasped yours catching you. Dion quickly let go of your hand the moment you regained balance and looked at you. His posture was stiff. “My..lady.” He greeted shyly only glancing at you for but a moment. Everything about him radiated uncomfortableness, perhaps he was just as unhappy with this news as you were.
“Dion is nervous please forgive him Lady _______ but he’ll he’ll mentor you as you gain control over Leviathan.” Sylvestre said ignoring the awkwardness that grew between you and the young Prince. “Ah well Lord Angelo come let’s finish discussing what we must. Dion come also so you can experience a real diplomatic meeting.” He said walking off with your father without another word Annabella in tow. Just as you and Dion broke each other’s gaze you noticed him  mouth a sympathetic ‘I’m sorry’.
Your world was spinning, vision blurred as you tried to comprehend what was happening. Then it was your mother who broke you out of your downward spiral, “_______ I’m sor-“ but before she could anymore you turned towards her pushing her. “You sold me off? Like some bearer?!” You yelled. “Lady _______ please not here.” Tatiana spoke up shushing you and quickly ushering you and your mother somewhere private.
You stood in the empty archive room with your mother and Tatiana. “Well did you?!” You shouted once again breaking the silence.
Your mother frowned brushing her hair out of her face, “_______ we didn’t sell you off. It was for your own good and also for the sake of Dominion. You should feel honored to be wedded to Prince Dion and serve the Holy Empire.” She said anger rising in her voice. The audacity of your mother to be angry at you for your reaction only set you over even more. “What about my sake?! Joshua and I promised one another we’d get married. I can’t marry Dion and live in the Empire…” your voice lowered as you began to sniffle. It just wasn’t fair.
Sighing your mother turned to Titania the woman who raised you from birth, “Perhaps you can explain it better then I can Titania.” She said. Nodding the maid embraced you, “My dear ______, they would of taken you forcefully if not for your father agreeing to their terms. The Crystalline Dominion is neutral we ain’t allowed to have a Dominant. The Prince and the Emperor will take good care of you. And it’s not like we’re never gonna be allowed to see you again, we’ll visit I promise. Joshua would understand that you had to break your little promise.” She explained gently her voice was soothing your anger. Pulling away from her you stared into her dark orbs with your pale eyes,
“Will you be coming with me Tatiana?” You asked hesitantly already knowing her answer.
“No I’m sorry my dear I can’t.” She replied sadly her voice breaking.
Of course she couldn’t come with you…after all she had her own family to look after here in the Dominion.

The young blond prince shifted uncomfortably as he gazed into your grey eyes. Clearing his throat he broke the silence that had fallen between you the moment you departed from Twinside. “I apologize Lady ______. I understand this isn’t the must desirable situation for either of us.” He apologized quietly. You frowned nodding in agreement, “I’m assuming you’d rather not be married off also, huh Prince?” You retorted every word coming out like venom.
He nodded, “Y..yes. I also found out on the way that we were getting married.” He sounded so kind and gentle but yet you couldn’t help but take your anger out on him despite knowing he was just as much of victim in this situation like you. They shoved you two into the same carriage and expected you two to get along and happily accepted your marriage. You had only met the Prince a handful of times how could you want to marry him?
You clicked your tongue in annoyance as you returned your gaze back outside the carriage window. “Hmph.” Silence passed between you two once again. The tension could be sliced with a long sword. “Just so you know I have no desire to be lovey dovey with you nor be bestest of friends with you either.” You began, “Joshua and I made a promise to marry one another but of course as you are well aware your witch of a step mother betrayed her own brethren or so the rumors go.” You spat.
Dion sighed, “Please Lady _______, I  no desire to replace Joshua i understand you two were very close to one another. He often spoke fondly of you.” He was speaking so kindly towards despite your aggression towards him it almost made you feel guilty. You slumped in your seat the collar of your dress engulfing your face. “I feel like my parents did not want to deal with my grief so they sold me off the first chance they got…I miss Joshua, Prince Dion.” You spoke sadly voice raising an octave as you fought to hold back tears.
Dion reached over placing a gentle hand on your shoulder, “I promise to protect you Lady _______. After all we’re both Dominants and we must look out for one another.” He smiled charmingly. Your face heated up and you avoided his amber eyes. For some reason you truly believed him.

Upon your arrival to Oriflamme, the streets were lined with people celebrating. Perhaps today was some holiday for the Sanbreque people. You thought to yourself. “Prince Dion, what are they celebrating?” You asked sticking your head outside the carriage. Chuckling Dion joined you sticking his head out the carriage also waving at the people, “Our engagement. The people knew before either of us did.” He laughed.
The people loved their Prince you could gather that much from their cries and cheers for him, they hardly cared about your presence. “Leviathan is ours!” One man yelled tears streaming down his face. You felt strange, never once did you hear your name spoken from the Sanbreque people, just Leviathan. They saw you no more than an asset to protect their precious Empire.
The longer you stared at the celebrations of your engagement you began to grow depressed. You waved and smiled at the people maintaining a happy facade though. Would Joshua and I have been celebrated like this? You wondered. Finally the carriage arrived at the castle, the noise from the celebrations quieting down. Drake’s Head stood greeting you as did the ethereal castle that stood on the cliff side. This would be your new home, not as ______ Lannis but as a tool for the Empire.
