been relistening to some more recent jrwi stuff since i miss them (they just got into the black sea) and. goddd ALPHONZE.

i picked up right as he was getting turned into the ship and good god i still have feelings about this. every time he speaks up as the ship it's so grippingly upsetting to me. like. idk about how y'all hear it but to me it just Doesn't Sound Like Him. it feels hollow. this isn't what he would have wanted. do the other members of the crew know? do they understand? do they mourn him? or is he just a machine to them, too? aughhggg

!!!JRWI HEADCANNONS!!!

Mainly the entire riptide crew, but John n Caspian r mentioned :3

1: (Before the Black Sea) If it got really cold at night, Chip would go to the area where the rest of the crew sleeps and just sleep in a corner becuase their room dosent have any heaters so he sleeps their becuase he radiates heat.

2: Erals' wife was named Cherry, so wherever he goes he has a little badge with the picture of a cherry on it, he usually keeps it in his pocket.

3: Since some tritons can be born with tails, I like to think Jay crafted / designed gillion a robotic tail, It holds all his spare equipment +Including his shell.

4: Gryffon has a hard time sleeping, but ever since Queen joined the crew he's managed to sleep better becuase they play a soft tune before going to bed.

5: Alphonze would teach ollie how to steer the ship / take care of the ship before the Electradon attack.

6: Gillion is Platonic / romantic (your choice) partners with Caspian and John, and they all wear rings that represent the other two.

7: Drey and Fin are usually reading / painting when not helping with the ship and eventually Eral got wrapped into it but only cuz Fin convinced him to try it out.

8: Gryffons is really good at chess, He doesn't even know how to play, but he always managed to beat the others without breaking any of the rules (the only one he can't beat is pretzel).

9: The colorful cracks and scars Igneous has glow if he's embarrassed or excited. +Chips tattos heating up for the same thing.

10: Ollie wanted to have fire tattos like Chip, so Alphonze would occasionally find facepaint and paint Ollie's face with it so it looked like they also had fire tattos.

11: Igneous ends up being really good freinds with Alphonze.

12: Ollie has probably done a bunch of drawings of the crew and hung them up in his room / made a journal talking about their adventures.

13: When Igneous first meets Ollie (Ik theirs a chance they might not get out of the Black sea, but I am projecting). He thinks he's Chips kid because he looks like a miniture version of him and asks Chip if he was really going to propose to him without mentioning he has a kid. +Leading to funny shenanigans.

14: Alphonze and Gryffon act like the crews dads and the old men act like the grandparents, Queen is the Wine Aunt.

15: Jay becomes absolutely unhinged if she doesn't have coffee, Alphonze will never forget the day he felt Fear for the first time.

I won’t be able to emotionally handled the story if alphonze dies

Like this badass robot guy who was built to serve and not think for himself or his desires gets pushed into the idea of free will by these insane pirate captains who show up randomly and kill his boss and tell him to live his life. He joins them because they are the ones that gave him one and he just got free will and doesn’t know what he really wants and they say sure, you can stay until you find out if you want. He becomes such a dependable part of the crew and he hasn’t said anything in a long time now so maybe…..maybe he’ll say he chooses to stay. But before that ever happens. He dies for them, before he could claim any other life for himself, he died once again in service

i need to go back in time into the riptide universe so i can grip alphonze by the shoulders and shake him intensely and tell him not to join the riptide pirates!!!! don’t do it!!! don’t go with them!!!

they’re such well-meaning people but they never give him the light of day and i have so many emotions about it. he went with them for the promise of freedom, to learn who he wanted to be and pursue that. they promised him.

and then they change his voice. his whole thing, really. and they have him be the helmsman. he’s free to do whatever he wants, technically, but he’s not used to that yet, so he continues to follow orders.

then chip gives him and the rest of the crew a speech. he tells alphonze he can do whatever he wants, and can follow true freedom if he wishes. he can be his own man.

and alphonze tests the waters, he says no when he’s told to do things. he tries out his new freedom. we never learn what he does or what he wants to do, because no one ever asks him. he’s brushed aside. no one on the ship cares about alphonze, it seems. not enough to talk to him directly, that is.

and then he “dies.”

and what do his captains do? the first people who ever offered him freedom?

they reuse his very consciousness. they make him the soul of their ship. the one thing he ever tried refusing to do, saying no to, he now is inseparably a physical part of.

and he doesn’t say no anymore.

see i love both alphonse (alphonze? i never remember) and ichabod, i love them both sm and im so glad that ichabods coming back for the sea shanty but i do wish Alphonse got a singing part, like he's part of the crew and I don't think he's recongised enough as he should be. but i also really really love ichabod so im like torn, i lowkey wish they both had a part or a duet part which would be even cooler. x2 cowboys please
