On the one hand I desperately want everyone to read "Yellowface" by R.F. Kuang.
On the other...

The Yellowface Experience so far (50 pages to go and I fear:
-oh God why is June like that
-how is she getting worse
-everyone else is somehow even more bad
-wait do I feel bad for June, what, no
-oof
-nvm, there she is throwing herself off a likeability cliff

Wanted to draw my OCs Meiying (She/Her) and June (She/Her) in a festive scene that's somewhat appropriate for a hemisphere I do not live in. This is me experiencing snow vicariously through my OCs

Yellowface becomes even more fun when you frame it like a Twitter thread. Particularly this one famous tweet:
I can hear it: y'all wanna know how this white bitch had me allll the way fucked up?
or: June Hayward aka Juniper Song is a lying racist opportunistic thief who stole from her dead best friend. THREAD 🧵
But everyone in this novel is a different shade of awful. There is no one who is redeemable and there is no one who is really asking for it. While I never rooted for June, I did want several different people to beat the brakes off her!
Good, compulsive read!! For the people who love drama and watch Twitter beef like 🫣😮😗. Check it out!

Rewatching And Then There None — I always forget what a great, ridiculously solid cast of legendary character actors this movie has.

What interesting to me about Yellowface is how we can clearly see how June’s mental health is deteriorating as the book goes. Started from excusing herself for being a fake friend and ended with straight up murder attempt. I wouldn’t be surprised that the last scene was actually her in mental hospital
