jeez this season of shibuya survivor was a trip. why did they just allow the shinjuku judges to hijack the game show like that smh?? uzuki should’ve been conductor, it would’ve made the whole thing smoother smh. rated 0/10 on imdb.
I combined the concepts of fashion with Susukichi being a cool uncle for Tsugumi and Shoka (which is so precious, lemme tell ya). I thought, "Dude's obsessed with reversi and the girls already have black and somewhat white themes going on. Let them model reversi-inspired dresses," and this was the result! Thank @twewyss for hosting!
This is one of Susukichi’s most underrated moments in NEO TWEWY and honestly speaks volumes about his relationship with the Shinjuku Reapers and role as a big brother figure.
When you look at the lines on a surface-level, it seems cruel of him, especially after Ayano had just been Erased, but when you look between them, Susukichi is basically telling Shoka "what happened to Ayano wasn’t your fault. She genuinely did care for you but her choices were her own and you shouldn’t blame yourself for them."
This is especially poignant because while Ayano DID genuinely care for Shoka, she also tried to gaslight her multiple times out of a misguided attempt to keep her safe and by her side and that obviously fucked up Shoka IMMENSELY.
So Susy K going out of his way to comfort her while still putting on the facade of the dickhead rival because he can’t let the others know of his plan (which is ironically similar to what Shoka herself did in regards to Rindo and the others) just hits hard.

Round 1 Match 11: Kaichi "Susukicki" Susuki VS Koki Kariya
What gives these two Autism Swag?
Kaichi "Susukichi" Susuki:
Has a Special Interest in Reversi, which he uses to understand the world. He is extremely competitive and sees the world in black-and-white, becoming upset and angry when shades of grey are introduced.
Seems to be content and genuinely happy playing the Game over and over, every week. He just wants to play games with his friends.
Very loud and talkative.
Likes Monocrow because of Reversi, too, specifically because it’s black and white. Fashion based off special interest.
Koki Kariya:
Always has a lollipop in his mouth.
Describes himself as a "stargazer," enjoys watching people.
He trusted and looked up to Shiba so much; willing to kill for him, willing to die for him, yet Shiba slowly became more and more unrecognizable. How much of a final nail Ayano’s infection must have been, how much regret he hadn’t done more sooner. That rueful laugh when asked why he kept following Shiba’s orders. How he fought to the death and accepted erasure rather than surrendering/joining the twisters, embracing the justice of losing the game like the many players he doomed.
Made a new twitter banner for myself because It was about time I did so. Higashizawa and Susukichi’s outfits are both inspired by their concept art sketches (with some creative liberties for the colors)
I know it’s over a week late but I wanted to do this, and it’s my birthday on the day I’m posting this so here goes. Susukichi is my favorite character in the whole of Neo the world ends with you and I am very happy with how this picture turned out.
I’m still working on my inking skills so I don’t have a total grasp but I feel I did a good job.
Also if you want to check out the game that he’s from go check out “Neo the world ends with you” on steam. It shadow dropped like 4 or 5 days ago right before persona 5 royal was ported to consoles. It may or may not be 25% off right now so go check it out and buy it because it’s awesome and easily one of my favorite games I’ve played in the last year or two.
I love that Shoka’s so impatient to yell at Susukichi over text message that she has to steal Rindo’s phone to do it! Either that or Big Su blocked her and it’s her only option. Rindo’s pretty chill about it either way at least, because he’s Rindo, love that boy.
His accepting little sigh at the end there, like he’s thinking “Yeah, that sounds about right.”
I don’t think there’s much chance of Shoka not taking this one personally. She is MAD mad. She pulled out the multi-exclamation-mark-and-ones grammar, or, I dunno, shift screaming. She shift screamed at him! She is so angry at this one. She really needs a hug or something.
I actually really like seeing Susukichi visibly realising that it’s not Rindo texting him, figuring out that it’s Shoka and then changing his tone once he does. The guy doesn’t typically come across as having depth, but he does seem to care about his fellow Reapers. Heck, this reads to me like he’s trying to keep us out of harm’s way while the city is destroyed. He still tricked us and obviously the destruction of everyone’s home ain’t gonna fly with them but I can see how he’d consider that a favour or at least the best move he can make.
Susukichi’s fighting a former friend here and that’s gonna colour his board more grey than he’s used to, I’m sure. I hope that’s a tough thing for him to deal with.
At the end of Week 3, Day 6, there’s a largely overlooked characterization detail for Susukichi.
He’s rehearsing his act before a call with Shiba. It wouldn’t be too surprising considering the difference between what he’s saying and how he’s feeling at the time.
Alt text: Susukichi stands in the center of the shot, in a blue panel in front of the Scramble Crossing. He’s on his phone, grinning, when a text alert sounds. He says, “Whaddya know, The Wicked Twisters are still at it. But not for long.”
His pose changes to tossing a reversi piece. “I say it’s time to flip ‘em for good.”
The remainder of this scene does a great job of portraying his strained relationship with Shiba, especially seeing Susukichi’s expression grow more and more frustrated.
Alt text: His panel moves to the corner. While Susukichi’s on the phone, Shiba asks over the call, “What is it?” Susukichi responds, “About tomorrow’s game-”
His expression changes to a frown. “Do ya gotta keep bringin’ that up?” We do not hear more of Shiba’s response. Susukichi continues, “Whaddya mean? I can handle it just fine!”
(Simultaneously, Shiki enters the scene checking for Neku at Hachiko).
It’s also likely that Susukichi’s text conversation with Shoka that same day might have been the tipping point, if he hadn’t been there already.
Alt text: Rindo and Shoka talk inside the dimly lit Shibuya River. In the middle of the frame are black vines with red outlines. Purple fog lingers near this Reaper Wall.
Shoka says, “I... I messaged him yesterday. About what happened with Tsugumi and Neku and all that. And about how there’s something weird with Shiba’s powers. He said he thought it was weird, too, so he’d help us out.”
