“What is your favorite diary in Mirai Nikki?”

I saw this question at Reddit sometime ago. I would like to share my input on it. 

If I'd have to choose my diary from the original storyline, I'd most likely pick Yuki's Indiscriminate, Reisuke's Hypervision, or the Matron's Blog.

[Tiny spoilers ahead... but don’t worry.]  

The Indiscriminate (or Random) Diary held by Yukiteru Amano is a popular choice because it seems to be the most advantageous. In a practical sense, one can use this Diary to seamlessly accomplish tasks and procrastinate with lesser worries. (haha!) 

The major weakness is that this diary relies on what the holder senses, so this diary is prone to misinformation and can be rendered useless by disinformation, e.g. if someone lies to the holder, the lie might be picked up as recorded future. 

The diary also does not predict what will happen to Yuki himself. Nonetheless the Indiscriminate Diary is very handy as it picks up information from the future with a short headway of around ten minutes (unless someone changes the future, yeah.) This diary can be considered a radar-type, with a bit of organizing.

I also find the Hypervision Diary of Reisuke Houjou interesting because I personally understand better through visualizations, and the fact that it gives three predictions—morning, midday, and night—the predictions may be set further than that of the Indiscriminate. 

The catch here is that only three predictions are given and that the diary is a picture book which makes it initially vulnerable. However, lil’ Reisuke is nuts, and he was able to counter the weakness of the diary by having it delivered to himself, when he will get it at a certain time. He also uses the diary in the bathroom so no one notices; that is when he carries that stuff on his bag. 

Wielding a routine filled with booby traps on hand, congrats we now have the youngest (almost) serial killer). Reisuke must have been a gifted child and it is highly probable that that he’s accelerated at academics. 

(Reisuke using the diary in the bathroom also reminds me of the countless debates I win at showers xd)

The Matron's Blog Diary (used by Kamado Ueshita) is unique; it's not in a cellphone, but it is on a server. Even though it does not predict the future at all, it's perfect for a person who is excellent in negotiating and apparently can fight without the need for physical combat. It can be alliances or meticulous planning ahead, but never without allies that may have so-called Apprentice (or Child) Diaries.

Apprentice Diaries are functional as long as these are connected wirelessly onto the server; that is, Kamado’s diary. 

Personally I think it might be even more interesting if the Blog Diary holder went to another computer whiz other than that of John Bacchus; the story could have gone somewhere else, like if Kamado and Yomotsu Hirasaka had been temporary allies with this server-cum-hypnosis powers on their devices. For now, these are fanfic prompts.

Else, I'd go with Aru Akise's Detective Diary.  Nonetheless, this particular diary is kinda OP. Not gonna mention more about it though on why it’s cool, because  this is an Apprentice Diary.

Iʼm not sure if my first ask went through, so I would like to ask again. If the other future diaries all have an additional ability like with Yomotsuʼs Justice Diary, what do you think that additional ability would be?

Wait, what additional ability did Yomotsu gain from his diary? Beyond just knowing future shit that will go down and using that to his personal advantage, I guess he does prove to have the ability to powerfully hypnotize people. But I always believed that to be something he knew/learned on his own, totally separate from his diary powers. .... I guess the source of that skill is never clearly given to us, though, is it?

This is pretty tough for me to imagine for many of our characters, but here are a few ideas.

First - What Yuki really needs is to know what someone is thinking at a glance. Maybe he can do that once a day to one person? That'd really fuck with all the people who're misleading him or trying to entrap him.

Second - My first instinct is to give Yuno the ability to sporadically remember some of what she and Murmur blocked from her mind when she replaced 2nd Yuno, but... that would require Deus and/or Eleventh knowing that she's not this world's Yuno in the first place, so that's not gonna work. Maybe she should just be guaranteed full lucidity for like, one hour a day. :P lol

Third - Perhaps he gets a little forcefield/shield that lets him take one lethal hit without dying. Since he dies so easily anyway, he might need the help. :P

Fourth - Maybe he should be allowed to see whatever his direct reports/underlings see for a short time. Like, temporary sight-jacking.

Fifth - He kinda got screwed with his diary to begin with, eh? His desire to be able to be "independent" might be something we can work with. Maybe he can sustain himself without food and/or water... or oxygen. He might not even need his gas mask anymore if that were the case. He could just hold his breath.

Sixth - If we're gonna be giving everyone "future sight," can't we at least give Tsubaki "SIGHT"? Yomotsu seems pretty damn well acclimated to being blind; he can manuever extremely well. But Tsubaki's combination of youth + isolation + near-blindness has left her without any such tools or training. Just let the diary serve as her glasses to clear up her vision, ffs.

Seventh - It'd be logical for Marco and AI to be able to locate one another via their diaries. Not just via whatever descriptions appear, but like... actually giving them GPS mapping of where the partner phone is.

Eighth - Her protective instincts towards her children should probably give her some ability to shield a select number of bloggers on her server from attack. Maybe just one attack each, like what I did with Third.

Ninth - Tough one. Given the fact that she often works with explosives that could prove hazardous to her own health — and in light of the maimings she undergoes in the story — maybe she should get some kind of regenerative ability. A slow Wolverine-esque healing factor that lets her regrow lost body parts or something... ?

Tenth - God, we know SO LITTLE about this dude. Maybe he can just like, make copies of his dogs automatically without having to literally breed and raise new pups... ? But of course he could only do it from his own personal location, so that only helps in a conflict if he actually puts himself into the action.

Eleventh - Already basically gets every diary's version of foresight, but simultaneously. He also helped create the damn things. Dude's OP, doesn't need anything else. :P

Okay, but can someone help me with how the Blog Diary (Kamado Ueshita's/8th's) worked. It's confused me since I was like 9 lol. All of the other diary users seemed to have their diary predict the future with the diarys they were already taking. But she wasn't taking it and processing the information it gave from the other's phones manually?? Or was that how it worked?

At stuff like thus I'm pretty much technology dead. Someone please help.
