So! I talked to my wife about this, and everything I'm about to say is from her. But I think that's really it. It's not entirely that Lusamine is a different character that's bothersome. It's how that impacts Lillie.

Anime Lillie is delightful and I love her. Her big hangup is she can't touch Pokemon, due to a trauma she can't remember. Faba opened an Ultra Wormhole to bring out a beast for Lusamine to see (without her orders), and the Nihilego that came through grabbed Lillie and tried to take her into the wormhole. Silvally saved her, but the entire experience got blocked out and she's left with a fear of contact from Pokemon. Good stuff! That's actually pretty interesting.

Her relationship with Lusamine, however, is obnoxious. Because it's exactly what it sounds like: it paints Lillie as actually being childish.

The Clefairy thing is up for interpretation. Lusamine says "I was the one raising it," but it's not entirely clear if it's hers or just the family Pokemon. Lillie has it in their old photo, so it might be like a pet dog and like...okay you can't evolve the family dog but like trading it for a different breed you liked better that the kids didn't. That kind of neglect. But the rest? Lusamine will excitedly proclaim how proud she is of her baby girl, and Lillie gets huffy because "Mom, you're embarrassing me, I'm not a child!" Lusamine gets pulled into business calls, and Lillie snaps that Lusamine must not care about her, which is understandable from the child's perspective but also the plot of like every family-focused movie from the 90s.

But the way the anime frames things does tend to point to Lillie being in the wrong, or at least being over-dramatic about it. It at least never invalidates her feelings on the matter, but it sure doesn't take them seriously. Like, the episode with the Ditto? Lillie's getting irritated with her mom for not spending time with them herself and being busy with work, as literally everyone around her is like "Wow Lillie, your mom is so cool," and ending on this kind of knowing look like "See? Isn't she being a good mom still? Aren't you being too harsh?" That is a huge 180 from the games' presentation of Lillie.

To make matters worse, the callouts that are referenced in that other post? Don't matter. I haven't reached the episode, but we know Lillie's going to have her callout toward Lusamine when they get back to Ultra Space. Guaranteed. And it won't have a fraction of the weight of the callout in the games, because Lillie has been doing this the entire time. As much as the anime keeps trying to tell Lillie it's her responsibility to talk to her mom about how she's feeling, going so far as to even have Burnet pass on that advice, she already does. Lillie has been telling her mother how she feels constantly. I don't like being treated like a kid, I don't like that you're spending all your time working. It's not point for point in those words, but Lillie is very clear even as she's snappy about it. Don't treat me like a kid and call me your baby in front of my friends. Don't bother calling me if you're going to work the whole time instead of talk. Lillie is very clear, but the anime wants to treat it like this is just missed communication because Lillie hasn't made herself known. And it's...jarring.

(my words now) Because it all comes back to making Lusamine more palatable. That's all this is about. A bunch of dudebros got really excited about her design being conventionally pretty, and when she was shown to just be intense and abuse with little redeeming about her, got mad she wasn't their waifu. So you get USUM turning down the evil and pivoting more directly into "grieving widower trying to protect her kids," and the anime going for quirky playful childish Lusamine whose flaws are so tame it's literally the plot of every show and movie for kids that tries to show a strained parent/child dynamic. It's the most flaccid, easily-digestible interpretation you can provide. It risks nothing, and as a result, says nothing. But also has the audacity to present this in a way where Lillie's...kinda just in the wrong. And literally everyone knows it. Because even children are aware that work is a priority, and that not having money means things get worse. Lillie's not unaware of this either. If pressed, she gives the usual "I know she's really busy and her work is important, I just wish" etc etc. She knows. And it's presented that way because anything more extreme makes Lusamine unlikable, or at least un-waifuable. And from the marketing perspective, that's just as bad.

I bitch about USUM every time it comes up, but I can't deny its success at roping that demographic in. People really do just want to be presented with a lady character that's, at worst, misdirected. Anything beyond that is bad writing and she's just horrible for its own sake, no need to delve into this any further no sir. It's just a shame that writers so rarely present us with well-written and dynamic female characters, but at least we have a few goods ones in these completely generic, likeable girls whose worst flaw is being slightly misguided or too immature (This is sarcasm, I hate fandom).

Been wondering, how well did your exile get along with Kreia? (Btw, your comics are an absolute joy)

She finds her possesiveness to be amusing if a bit overwhelming. (srsly Kreia gets so mad whenever someone else even tries to guide you along the way, I love it).

The fact they’re damaged in similar would ways make the Exile feel for Kreia. The old woman would probably view it as a weakness but also it feels good to have someone you care for care for you also.

The Exile would get really REALLY mad when discovering Kreia is fucking with her crew though. She may not have much self preservation both phisically and emotionally but if you mess with ppl she cares for she’ll fuck you up.

The Exile also sees her crew as geniuenly great ppl (if damaged) so she’ll get mad when Kreia talks about them like they’re worth less.

Also on some level the Exile probably sees Kreia as the person she would not like to be but may very well become. Like the whole ‘helping ppl weakens them but it makes you stronger so exploit them‘ thing. I feel my Exile would question herself a lot with stuff like this.

@karnilla74 I definitely agree with that. I’m really not sure what some wlw expect from sex scenes if it’s not erotic passion?? Yeah we don’t want straight porn but we don’t want to be depicted as sexless robots either. Just because straight men will think it’s sexy (um women having sex is arousing who knew??) doesn’t mean it’s…bad…for wlw. It’s all about the context of the scenes, not how unrealistic the sex is. I can’t remember if I’ve ever seen ANY kind of sex scene that was realistically depicted. The Handmaiden at least depicts two characters who love and respect each other. Most m/f sex scenes don’t even give us that much.

sure! they’re all in Knights of the Old Republic II\StreamVoice, i took notes on where things are based on what i’ve taken a look at

001-004: cutscenes initiated upon entering ebon hawk

003\003atton: atton convo on the ebon hawk, after peragus and on the way to telos

003\atthand: atton and handmaiden exchange, something something you know more abt echani style than you say, blah this isn't a pleasure ship blah

003\attkreia: kreia uses atton's past to blackmail him, atton reports to her, kreia takes atton to malachor (basically these exchanges)

003\attond: first time flying into onderon before you resort to landing on dxun

003\attt3: atton complaining about playing pazaak with t3 but still playing pazaak with t3 every time

003\veteran: after arrival on telos, kreia and atton talk abt the exile while exile's asleep

100's: peragus (101\101atton: atton's cell convo when you first meet him)

200's: telos

300's: nar shaddaa

400's: dxun

500's: onderon

gbl\atton: atton convos, incl his past, exile-angered-handmaiden talk, pazaak mind shield talk (73 to 89 to 93). i haven’t written it down but iirc some of his regular gameplay/combat dialogue is in here too (like “time to even the odds!” "pure pazaak” etc)

the file naming system seems to group dialogue into the conversations they occur in, so even if a character’s shorthand (ATT, DISC, KREIA, etc) isn’t in the file name, if they have a line during the convo it’ll be in there. like 601\mechanic is just named mechanic but has the whole conversation with the mechanic on dantooine, including when kreia and atton comment approving of your use of persuasion

also, this isn’t always the case, but when i was looking, if a file name’s in all caps when the rest are lowercase-- or all lowercase when the rest are in caps-- it can often be a character speaking whose shorthand is not in the filename

oh! and for actually listening to the files yourself (i’m just gonna include it bc search results turn up forum q&a’s and those aren’t the most efficient way to relay information), you can:

copy the .wav files over to a new folder (don’t wanna risk modifying the ones the game uses)

rename the .wav extensions to .mp3

on windows, i did this by running command prompt, navigating to the folder i put the .wav files in (using “cd C:\Users\Username\Desktop\New Folder” or wherever the folder is), and typing “ren *.wav *.mp3” to rename everything at once

if you’re doing it yourself manually you might need to enable seeing file extensions to rename them

download and run wavepad sound editor to be able to play the renamed .mp3′s, and if you want regular .mp3′s that any media player can read, just resave them with the program

OR if you’re on linux or a mac or already have cygwin for windows, you can download this, put it in the folder where you’ve copied all the game’s .wav files over to, and run it with “sh gog_kotor_extract_music.sh”. the .mp3′s in the “fixed” folder will be playable by regular media players. this doesn’t work for all of kotor 2′s files, which is why i ended up using the previous method instead, but it worked for a good number of the ones i was trying to listen to

Getting to Know You Meme!

I was tagged by @redangelx3​ for this thing, so let’s do it!

Name: Jeremy. Not much beyond that unless my friends are feeling lazy.

Height: Limbo zone between 5′4″ and 5′5″ as of now.

Hogwarts House: Forever a Ravenclaw.

Go-to-SSB4 character: Been a while since I last played smash but the trio of Cloud/Dark Pit/Marth was my crew.

Fictional Character I’d date: Yellow from the Pokemon Adventures manga (also known as Amarillo del Bosque Verde). My favorite character, period. Kind, caring, nature-loving, and actually magical. Seconds would be Ema Skye (Ace Attorney) and Natalia Luzu Kimlasca-Lanvaldear (Tales of the Abyss).

Favorite Band/Artist: Tricky one since most of the music I listen to comes from video games or Youtubers. I’d love to heap praise onto all the composers for the Ace Attorney franchise (Especially Yasumasa Kitagawa and Hiromitsu Maeba, the guys who did DGS), but for this I’ll say Enter the Haggis. Classical Celtic music and Celtic rock are one of the few thing I branch out to.

When did I make this blog?: Originally it was made around 2014, then abandoned for a while until I became active again in August 2016 to see friend’s posts. 

How many blogs I follow: 167, mostly video games/anime/nature/animal blogs.

Do I get asks often?: what is this “ask” of which you speak

Aesthetic: Uhhhhhh....This one’s rather tricky, since I’m not quite caught up on what the new definition of aesthetic is, but I’ll just go with things that I generally find pleasing. Nature’s the big one, especially the further away I am from the sun. Seeing fall foliage and snow-covered trees around my state is a privilege I’m glad to have, especially since I live right in the middle of a Maine forest. Also big on ascending mountains to get a wider view of the landscape, or looking up at the stars on a clear night, or feeling the breeze in the summer, or the harsh coastal rain...All of it, really. Seals, cats, and birds are next. I’ve got a couple dozen plushes of all of them stockpiled from years of collecting, not to mention that the real things are adorable (Or often majestic, especially those birds). Rest I can think of off the top of my head would be books, modern architecture, eastern cultures (especially Japan), writing, comics, the like.

For this last part I’m supposed to tag 20 followers that I’d like to get to know better...except I have 22 and a good chunk are porn bots. So I’ll just go with the mutuals who I’d like to get to know better. @togekiss-clouds, @tjsbin, @zaplayden, @karnilla74, and @petalpetal (also continue to stay good friends with @baby-goalie-skaps that’d be cool).
