Spring Forward dance festival 2020 presented by Aerowaves Europe

The festival was set to be hosted in Croatia this year but due to the pandemic, had to be moved online. Not that I would have taken the trip anyway, but it was great to be a part of the audience when I wouldn’t have otherwise been able to attend. 

I jumped into the festival a day late. I woke up just in time Saturday morning to catch A Complementary Set_Disappearing With An Impact by Korean dance duo The Choi x Kang Project (above). It was such a clever and upbeat piece; I wish I had choreographed it. Of course, it was meant to be performed live, so the fact that it used complex video work to dismantle audience expectations was another layer of performance inception. 

If anything good comes out of this difficult time, it is that events like these--featuring relatively unknown artists-- can reach bigger audiences. Going virtual means that people without the funds, work flexibility, physical ability, or institutional clout to travel to these amazing festivals can still consume and appreciate dance culture from their small corner of the world. It was obvious from watching five hours of dance on my laptop screen that video is a poor substitute for the real experience (it just doesn’t have the same emotional impact), yet I still think it’s a great way to get a little taste of the festival experience. 

Although it’s still early in the pandemic-driven shift to digital, the festival organizers did a fantastic job keeping audience members engaged and entertained on Zoom. Not a moment of screen-time has been wasted with their artfully recorded segments, event teasers, video intros from dance artists, and a fairly large dose of humour (both physical and spiritual disinfection is highly encouraged; they suggest vodka, whisky, or tequila for the latter).

Support Older Girl Groups Pt. 2: Crayon Pop

This week on Support Older Girl Groups we are supporting Crayon Pop. If you want to know why you should participate even if this week isn’t about a group you stan, check out this post.

If you are new to this project, it is a series of weekly masterposts of videos to watch to support older girl groups. Crayon Pop diffidently needs the support right now, so now it is their turn!

This is not everything from Crayon Pop, this is some videos that need the view counts to go up with the intention of boosting Crayon Pop’s popularity, and helping out older girl groups!

About The Group

Crayon Pop is a girl group under Chrome Entertainment. They debuted in 2012 with Gummi, Ellin, Soyul, Choa and Way. Recently, Soyul left the group to focus on her new family. The status of Crayon Pop as a group was very up in the air for a while, and they seemed to be facing disbandment. But very recently is was announced Crayon Pop would continue, but they would be working on their own solo activities as well.  

Crayon Pop is a very unique group. They have a very cute and silly concept, but do amazing things with it! I am yet to her a song from them that wasn’t extremely catchy. If you are having a bad day, Crayon Pop will always be there to cheer you up!

Title Tracks 

Doo Doom Chit was Crayon Pop’s latest comeback from 2016, and my personal favorite. But, sadly, was not very popular. It currently only has  1,875,951 views. Let’s get it to 2mil! Then maybe 5mil! It’s a super fun and catchy song. The group got to make a lot of the choices with this comeback, and has a different style than the other songs. But it still has that Crayon Pop brand feeling to it!

Bar Bar Bar was Crayon Pop’s comeback from 2013, and their rise to fame. It was globally very popular and their most popular song by far. It currently has  40,276,286 views. Let’s bring this song back into the spotlight and get it to 50mil! 

FM was Crayon Pop’s comeback from 2015. This song and music video are so cool! It’s a mixture of cute and hardcore in a way I haven’t really seen before. Watch it and you will be singing it until the end of time! It currently has  3,433,105 views. Let’s get it to 5mil!

Uh-Ee was Crayon Pop’s comeback from 2014. It’s super fun, unique, and catchy! The song and dance and super silly, and you will never forget about it (in a good way haha). I think the music video completes this song/concept so much. It currently has 12,225,618 views. Let’s get it to 15mil, then 20mil!

Strawberry Milk

OK was a song released by Crayon Pop’s Subunit Strawberry Milk. Strawberry Milk consists on the twins, Choa and Way. If you like cute concepts, you’ll love this. It is by far the cutest music video and song i have seen! I love this concept so much, and the lyrics are so incredibly sweet. It currently has  6,574,401 views. Let’s get it to 8mil, and the 10mil!

길 (Road) is a song Strawberry Milk did with Bear Planet (the composer of Bar Bar Bar). I just watched it for the first time and I love it so much. It is a story music video, and it is so great to see Choa and Way acting. I love the concept. Also this song really shows off Choa and Way’s vocal skills. It currently only has 156,818 views! It deserves millions! But let’s try to get it to 500,000, then 1mil!

Hero is a song Crayon Pop did with Kim Jang Hoon. It was for the Korean Firefighters Project, and the money it made all went to families of fallen firefighters. It’s super cute and fun to watch.

Here is the dance practice for Bar Bar Bar. I recommend checking out all of their dance practices. They are all amazing dancers! Their dances take so much energy, so if you are looking for a challenge or a good work out, Crayon Pop is for you!

he decided to become a police officer something noble, that made himself worthy of something. 

and he did it, he stuck in, became a cop and graduated after he turned 24. 

he still struggles with himself and how he feels but he gets by on a daily basis.

Balancing each other’s differences and achieving synergy is important in both creative arts and our daily lives. However, attaining and sustaining a balanced life is difficult in a constantly changing world which requires us to constantly adapt to new conflicts, concerns, and environments. In particular, the unexpected COVID-19 global pandemic made worries about reality and an uncertain future a regular part of our daily lives and thoughts. Just like finding our direction amid a foggy reality, creative activities are like taking a long journey toward an unknown destination. Each of the works presented in this exhibition shows unique and inventive approaches to realizing balance and synergy.

the bikini bottom was always a place filled with laughter and enjoyment, but what happens when our three gangs come to shake things up? if anyone asked, they were simply on a vacation...but what is going on behind closed doors? everyone is on a mission, and it can only be achieved if they work together. although they can blend in easily, who knows what obstacles to avoid along the way? the biki museum, home to many famous paintings and artifacts, is the target. to achieve a mission without getting caught, they need to avoid suspicion, and know the ins and outs of the town almost immediately.

the story goes as this: all the other museums around the world hold fake paintings and precious artifacts. the biki museum is the only standing place with real valuable pieces of art. there are skulls, mummies, and even the true mona lisa all in this one location. how could this be? well, since this location isn’t known well around the world, it’s ultimately the safest place to store these prized possessions. duplicates have been spread across the globe, and only a closed circle of people have the knowledge of this establishment. 

the question arrises: how did the gangs figure out the world’s biggest secret?

from the beginning, the higher-ups had knowledge about this. there were countless people on this case, and when the truth was revealed it was almost impossible to keep people’s mouths shut. they organized a plan to get the most out of this heist. this is why the new gangs are far ahead of the older ones, they aren’t fixated on one place to get their riches. 

where is the bikini bottom?: on an island called namkanda, where kim namjoon is president. this small town is located on the coast and has a lot of new residents coming in, but it hasn’t gotten as crazy yet. 

the mission: steal as much as possible, and get rid of anyone standing in the way. there will be also special assignments for people as well!

something to remember: not to get caught and have basic knowledge about the residents! interact with them to make their agenda go unnoticed. 

the schedule: 

first three days is ONLY interacting with residents. the heist is getting set up.

the last four days is for the HEIST interactions between residents can still occur though!

two: get into the bikini bottom city hall and steal secret file about the museum 

birdie: steal the key to the safe, it’s in the mayor’s office

camila: infiltrate city hall, hack into their system to alter cameras

reece: it’s unclear of any fail-safes the office may have, get ready for a speedy exit

three: the security guards on the east wing

eunha: there are three last defense fighters, take them out

kai: make sure to get the doors open while the other team members get rid of obstacles

four: rooftop madness

minjae: find a way to get inside through the vent system, leading other members

yoojin: get information about the fastest routes to the art hall

moonsuk: follow with the bags to carry the paintings (don’t forget a flashlight!)

sunmin: make sure to keep an eye out for any guards! in charge of safety

five: bikini bottom has a huge weapons export center, steal their list of connections

kyunghee: infiltrate and be on lookout 

taehan: be there for back up in case things go down 

hela: an expert on weapons, find the best ones to take

six: take out the owner of the museum

naeun: once minsun begins shooting, they have 10 minutes max. get ready for action.

eight: an opposing government official is currently staying in the neighboring city near bikini bottom for an event, kill them. they're about to spill about our operation and members

yubin: the event will have a lot of media coverage, cover our tracks

cleo: get into the waiting staff, slip poison into their drink

noi: get into the waiting staff, get ready to drive yubin and cleo away

tae: original plan was to be lookout in the car with your team, but what happened?

hana: get intel on dr. hong, inform hyeju. once the meeting takes place be on lookout

sooji: find a hiding spot. once the meeting takes place be on lookout

hyeju: tell them about how much money they can make with a gang connection

jinah: help hyeju convince dr. hong

twelve: we found the location of an old acquaintance who vanished after exposing some of our secrets to a news outlet. he is curently going by joon byun. we need him quietly put down. 

 angel: joon frequences a local strip club, act like a worker and have him take you to his place. keep his door unlocked. 

junha: survey joon’s home until angel returns with him, wait for angel’s signal before entering and taking joon out. 

inguk: make it look like joon left town and clean the scene.
