Kimetsu no Yaiba Chapter 152 Review
youtube
The hype for this series is so strong. Not just the manga, but the anime as well since its premiere is almost here. You can imagine my excitement. With all the hype surrounding with its spin-offs and advertisements, how can you not be excited. This chapter boosted it even more so. This was such a gratifying chapter, I don’t want this series to end.
The hype is strong right from the get-go. It just needed its own version of Broly vs. Gogeta theme song. Fun fact: I played that said song and it was mesmerizing. Anyway, the last chapter explained how Tanjiro was able to dodge the fatal blow in a captivating way. This chapter clarifies Akaza’s secret perk: senses fighting spirit. I had a feeling it was something like this, but it’s good to know with fair explanations and reasonable manner. All Tanjiro has to do is to cut his freaking neck. But first, a damn cool color spread to admire over. Those swords’ design are really good. Nice to see Kanao there. Seriously, that final arc talk has to be an April Fool joke.
It’s time for an intensifying battle and like some of the previous chapters, I was glued to the sequence and the intensity. It can’t get any tensed than a dragon in the battle. I know it’s from an attack but that’s how drastic this battle has gotten. Giyu is overwhelmed by Akaza’s strength and intellect that he’s beginning to feel defeat; like he has no chance in winning. Damn. It doesn’t help that Akaza bid farewell; playtime is over. It is terrifying to say the least. Too bad Tanjiro is just standing there like a Shounen cheerleader. Go. Fight. Win!
Joking aside, he’s actually focusing really hard on Akaza’s movement. It’s rather tensed to be honest. It gave me that vibe of do or die and it all relies on him. It makes the battle all the more fun if you were to ask me, but it does give serious chills. Take the next scene for example. When Akaza breaks Giyu’s sword, I cringed like someone has their arm broken. All the sudden, the room has gotten really chilly. Akaza goes for the punch and damn, talk about heart-stopping moment. I gasped loud like I’m about to pass out. I was close to blame on Tanjiro for taking so damn long to react.
Sorry for doubting him.
Tanjiro instantly becomes awesome when he not only save Giyu from the fatal punch, but cut Akaza’s hand like an assassin. What a twist; completely had me there. It gets even better. Tanjiro looks awesome in that panel pose. That’s a picture perfect of a grown boy with credible talent. I got goosebumps just by looking at it. The artwork is really solid. Even Giyu is awed by his greatness. Akaza changes his priority quickly because his instinct tells him that Tanjiro must die first at all cost. That says a lot.
Akaza goes for Blue Silver Chaotic After-Glow to strike everywhere in his surroundings. That attack name just rolls your tongue out. I like the scene with Tanjiro looking into the Transparent World while the attack engage. He’s so absorbed by its atmosphere; it’s soothing in a way. Giyu on the other hand takes the damage badly as it is inescapable. The man can’t catch a break. Akaza pledge to kill him to join with Kyojuro and Tanjiro. Wait, he died? Of course not, though it is the final arc, so maybe he did. But seriously, this is key.
Akaza can sense fighting spirit, but he can’t detect Tanjiro’s. It’s because his spirit isn’t aiming to kill, but to survive; calm, relaxed, and not thrill to kill. That’s why Akaza thought he’s dead and yet here is Tanjiro just standing in the back hurt, beat-up, yet still maintain greatness aura. Giyu sees this as the absolute opportunity to win. He has this desperation look and tone from his words, but can you blame him? This fight is incredibly tough as hell; Sekiro tier level. It’s a good thing that it is because it leads to the upmost satisfying strike.
Tanjiro yells for Akaza that he’s still alive and behind. Knowing him, this wasn’t designed as a joke. There are two ways to look at it. One is that Tanjiro fights with honor like his father. Instead of killing him from a sneak attack, he fights head-on. The other way, which is the most likely reason, is for the sake of fighting spirit. Have Tanjiro go for the kill, he will be detected, hence when Akaza blocked the attack two chapters ago. If he faces him head-on, the spirit will be minimum to non-existent, making it difficult for Akaza. That’s why it fades out right before Akaza goes for the attack. Then, greatness exceeded.
Akaza can’t rely on his senses. Tanjiro is risking his life. The next exchange is crucial as hell. Akaza swings for the punch, but nobody home. Tanjiro jump flip, uses Hinokami Kagura: Setting Sun Transformation, goes right for the neck, and success! He did it! That glorious swing is glorious! That’s a picture for the wallpaper. Akaza’s reaction is priceless. What a missed opportunity for Jump Force.
This is the kind of chapter you would want to read and record your live reaction. I couldn’t do it justice here as I already reacted and this is more of a review. Nevertheless, this was an outstanding chapter with a great payoff. Tanjiro never look so badass until now and that blood on his face made him ten times more. The artwork is pure solid with some intense sequences. This series is going places. Anime TV premiere is near as the manga continue to be impressive as usual. The hype is real.
