New little webtoy. Never wonder again how you spread 14 increases evenly over 118 stitches. It's never been easier.
I've been messing around with google sheets for a while to do knitting math for me, but now i actually used a braincell to remember how javascript works and turned my current calculators into a website. So now you can have calculators too. And you don't even need to know javascript, lucky you!
find my calculators here: https://dunes-knitting-math.neocities.org/
If i ever add more then i'll try to remember to update the list on the main page there so you can find them.

Time for uninterrupted stripes and seamless knitting in the round. The No Heel Turn Sock Pattern is finally written up. (Please excuse the makeshift cardboard sock blockers...)
This sock knitting pattern does not require to work a heel-flap and there is no need to pick up stitches.
The heel in this pattern is created simply by working increases, followed by an equal number of decreases.
Tumblr media
If you are able to knit on double-pointed needles in the round, you are confident to work k2tog and ssk decreases, and you have toyed with the idea of getting into sock knitting, this pattern will be a beginner-friendly entry into the wonderful world of top-down vanilla socks.
The free pattern is available via my main blog.

About
Hello, I'm P27A, but you can call me Aurora. It has come to my attention that many people falsely believe they cannot knit or crochet and I am here to prove that you CAN.
My goal is to provide video guidance that will take you step by step for everything you need to know and to explain how to execute each step in a way that is simple and easy to follow.
You will find that my videos are slow paced with the intention of you being able to follow along in real time and accompanied by verbal instructions. I will also teach you how to understand the anatomy of each stitch so that you can come to understand knitting and crochet in a more intuitive manner that will allow you more creative freedom in your individual yarning endeavors.

Garter Stitch Short Rows from Knotions Magazine!
. . . . the fact that I don't have to pick up the wraps make it -so- much easier.

I just started watching this Portuguese knitting video and I'm fascinated:
youtube
She purls with her thumb! She does garter stitch by purling instead of knitting! She doesn't tension her yarn!

Trying to get started knitting for my niece. Love the idea of it, and sort of enjoy it BUT GOD FUCKING DAMN the tutorial phrasing on so many online guides are so stupidly imprecise.
"pull the needle through the loop" - what, the whole needle?
"scoop off the left needle" - How?
"pull the right needle under the left and thread through above the first loop" - WHAT
I get the tutorial makers know exactly what they mean when they say it but it is maddening when they suddenly lapse out of clarity and into their own zone.
I've got about 3 years until my neice can make critical opinions and I want to get this down.

Uhhhh the stoned thought of letting an artist murder me and make art with my corpse in return for the publishment of my most heavily martyry poetry. Becoming an icon and probably a cult while never being around to see any of it (unless that is, indeed, how one goes about becoming a god)…
Tumblr is the only site that could possibly understand this

I just learned how to Norwegian Purl!!!
It's actually pretty easy once you understand all the movements.
I used this tutorial by Roxanne Richardson. (13 years old but still good!)
youtube
Only learn this after you are comfortable with continental knitting, though. It would have been impossible if I hadn't already known how to keep the yarn in tension.
1x1 ribs here I come.

Mabel Sweater/Part 2: Sleeve Surgery
Yesterday I posted Part 1, about the sweater itself.
I mentioned that initially, the sleeves on my sweater were too poufy because I had picked up too many stitches around the armhole. You can see it in the photo below - it is obvious that there is too much fabric at the top of the sleeves. When you knit a drop-shoulder sweater for larger sizes, you have to keep in mind that the junction between the sleeve and the shoulder can be very low on the arm, depending on how much ease you wanted on the body of the sweater. Maybe the poof would have been cute if the sleeve was higher on my bicep. Anyway, it annoyed me, and this project meant too much to me to just accept the sleeves as they were.
Tumblr media
Photo is cropped because it was just a WIP pic and those are not my best lol.
Now, I wouldn't consider myself a lazy person but I tend to try to find the most efficient way to get the results I want, so frogging two whole sleeves to re-knit them completely was not the first thing I wanted to try. Keeping in mind that I did decrease rounds every 10 rounds or so, here is how I went about it.
First, I picked up stitches just above my second decrease round.
Tumblr media
Then, I CUT in the row below those stitches and unraveled it so I would have a sleeve with live stitches on a needle, and a sweater with a lil' sleeve remnant attached to it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I frogged the lil' remnant, then I picked up stitches from the armhole again. I picked up as many stitches as there were waiting on the other needle with the sleeve, then I knit straight until I reached the length I needed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I then grafted the two parts together. I don't mind the hand sewing part of it, and it didn't take that long. The result is great! After blocking, the fit of the sleeve is perfect, much more to my taste, and the grafting is only visible if you know it was done and you are actively looking for it lol. Below is what it looked like before blocking. even then it's not that bad. You also have to keep in my the rest of the sweater and sleeve had already been blocked and this yarn blooms a tiny bit when you wash it.
Tumblr media
All in all, I consider this a very successful surgery! I'm very happy I was able to get the sleeves fixed in a week-end rather than over a week.
So just remember - it's all just yarn. It can be reused if you mess up. Don't be afraid to try things if you think they will work. They just might!

Injecting a splash of colour with this week's knit swatch... The Two-Colour Loop Stitch is super simple, rewarding and beginner-friendly.
Tumblr media
The loop effect is achieved by mostly knitting, some purling and simply slipping lots of stitches.
The knit stitch pattern / knitting tutorial is available via my blog.

And for those who don't know what I'm talking about, here's a wonderful tutorial from Youtube!
