The Third Elite Specialization Beta Event is live!

If you have a Guild Wars 2 account in good standing, you’re invited to try three of the new elite specializations from the upcoming expansion, which is available for prepurchase now.

How to Play

If you’re new to Guild Wars 2, sign up for a free account here! To join the fun, log in and create a beta event character by clicking one of the empty character slots marked “Beta” on your character select screen. You’ll be able to choose thief, ranger, or engineer as the character’s profession. Your character will begin in the city of Lion’s Arch at level 80, with their elite specialization, build, and gear equipped. From there, you can explore the open world or try a game mode dedicated to group play. You’ll find options to join the World vs. World and structured Player vs. Player in the bar located at the top left corner of your UI. To tackle the Fractals of the Mists instanced group content, visit Fort Marriner in Lion’s Arch and enter the portal. Please note that the beta characters will disappear on October 30 at 10:00 p.m. Pacific Time (UTC-8) at the end of the event, and any gameplay progress earned while playing on them—including rewards and currency—will not be saved.

One thing I love about GW2 is that there’s actual lore for these two cats.

Lady Wisteria Whiskington and Chauncey Von Snuffles III.

Canonically, the crowd loved Chauncey so much that when Wisteria won Divinity's Reach Fanciest Cat instead of him, Lord Faren, who was simply just the announcer for the contest and didn’t have a hand in picking a winner and presumably not even the influence to rig the competition, was chased by the mob out of Divinity’s Reach, and presumably also out of Kryta because at the time of this lore he was found in Southsun Cove, an island quite a way away from Krytan soil.

Gotta love it when a setting embraces its sillier aspects.

Other game lore: This sword was forged in the magmaforge of the ancient volcano Krakakoakakaokaar using the lost and condemned souls of millions who perished in the cataclysmic event that occured when the Deity Plaish’Oldar Naym gifted man with free will.

Guild Wars lore: This silly fashion contest between cats was treated dead seriously and akin to a british match of football by humans, to the point of forming pitchfork mobs and hunting the announcer because they disapproved of the result.
