I just saw that post about your thoughts on the counselors and I'm curious, have there been any major changes since then?

i just skimmed the post youre talking abt (i write a lot huh) but honestly? i haven't had TOO many major changes since. JUST REALIZED ITS COMING UP TO AYEAR SINCE I POSTED IT IN MAY? THATS SO CRAZY TO ME WTF but anyway

dylan: still pretty much the same opinion as back then LMAO i did have a more recent convo abt dylan (which def changed some thoughts abt him. esp related to his potential adhd and lack of a filter) but i stilll don't like him, sorry

nick: same thoughts as before honestly. i still think he doesn't deserve abi in the slightest. and his involvement w/ emma's dare still makes me very upset, ESP when the fanbase refuses to acknowledge his involvement in it lol. i dont doubt that racism comes into play w/ nick and his whole lack of a story and such, but i jut. i cant stand him

jacob: i take back the flip flop thing btw. i lowkey cant stand him. but to be honest:? ive gotten WAAAY less tolerant of male characters in general lately. and jacob is not exempt from this lol. i have yet to play TQ again (it's been quite a bit) but! maybe after we play tonight things will change. ill prob rb again if things do

ryan: HOWEVER. DO YOU KNOW /IS/ EXEMPT FROM MY "I HATE ALL MALE CHARACTERS" MINDSET? RYAN ERZAHLER. 100%. i love him lots and ppl r very mean to him fo r no reason. i talked abt this briefly in my angourie!cady post but just. when characters show certain autistic traits that YOU ALL cant deal w/ or understand, suddenly theyre a shitty person? they don't care abt their friends? theyre boring? KILLS YOU

max: he also is a pretty respectable guy to me i love you max. but as i said originally. i dont rly think abt him much

emma: she def had the biggest shift for me while playing the game for the first time!!!!! but in terms of like. if anything changed from when i wrote the original note? i dont rly think so tbh. reread waht i wrot eback then it rly makes it seem like i hate her 😭😭😭😭😭 I PROMISE I DONT..... I ACTUALLY LOVE HER SO MUCH...... SHE MEANS A LOT TO ME....... i just cant stand how she acts towards abi sometimes. def my biggest criticism of her. but at the same time. i understand WHY she acts the way she does. she means sooo muchto me. and esp seeing all your talk abt autistic emma? i just think that makes sooo much sense fo rher.and i LOVE it so much

kaitlyn: i dont even feel lik e going throuhg it all but. i feel like she may have gotten a little lower since i wrote that post? just bc i tjhink toooo many ppl think shes better than she actually is bc of her association w/ dylan? it pisses me off sooooo bad. and ive made posts abt this before but like. her character in general still aggravates me 😭 and i DO still stand by what i said in that og post. theres jsut... shes not that complex sorry guys. esp compared to EMILY? lLIKE. i know its unfair to compare the 2 but its pretty damn obvious that thye were going for another emily in kaitlyn lmao and they FAILED. MISERABLY

quarry characters ranked from least to most palpably queer

constance - she would actively call me a slur. multiple, even

jedediah - would also call me a slur but is slightly less of a fully awful person abt it. idk i guess it's just bc of the lance hendriksen vibes

travis - i feel like he would normally not call me a slur but could if he were mad enough at me. plus he's a cop so automatically i don't trust him. some additional points though for being ted raimi

chris - he wouldn't call me a slur but he would accidentally call trans ppl "transes" or "transgenders" and would be one of those ppl that would say "as long as they don't do it in front of me" which is v wild considering that he's that close with Known Queer Ryan Erzahler

bobby - i genuinely don't think this man would remember the specific words for slurs. he would however call trans ppl "transgenders" but mostly out of ignorance rather than malice

caleb - i have no baseline for this man but my gut instinct tells me that he'd be in the same base camp as his dad, just slightly less upfront abt it. plus idk he could've experimented with ryan we never know

kaylee - she died so obligatory rip. but i feel like she could've been a covert sapphic. i'm mostly going based on haircut though. like you cannot tell me she didn't play softball

anton - he's basically just a middle ground here. i cannot imagine him being anything other than brian murphy so there are points here for that but also literally who is he

grace - again basically nothing is known abt her other than she's just emily axford but she's slightly higher on the list bc she portrayed Notorious WLW Fig Faeth

emma - it pains me so to put her this low on the list. you have no idea how much i want to put her higher

nick - again who is he. there's definitely some subtext w/ jacob but like, he has basically no personality before getting chomped by a werewolf

max - as a transmasc guy, i believe he strongly embodies the transmasc experience but other than that he just kinda is a Wife Guy and thus has no strong queer vibes

laura - she's too busy being a girlboss to embody the queer experience, although she does have some v appealing sapphic vibes

kaitlyn - girl ily but stop talking abt your comphet crush. he's just not that into you (but he is also maybe a little bit into you depending on route)

jacob - either he has accepted his queerness at this point or he is right on the precipice. there is no way he would wear a croptop and booty shorts and not be at the very least a little fruity

abi - girl ily but stop talking abt your comphet crush. i want to grab her and shake her by the shoulders while asking her abt her sketch of emma. girl what are you doing if not being at least a little gay for your girl best friend

ryan - can't help but feel like he's being internally homophobic when he potentially says he's not interested in either dylan or kaitlyn. that's called self-sabotage babes. be who you areeeee

yes 👏 everything you said, just yes. he's such a goofball and a dork, and just adorable. I've seen people call him 'cringe', and sure he can be, but it's not like the others aren't. I haven't really been involved in the fandom publicly, but from what I've seen he's the only character where people nitpick at his flaws. Again, I haven't really been involved so let me know if this isn't true!

honestly at first he didn't catch my eye (talking about trailers and such) but then I played the game and just absolutely fell in love with him

we’re on a similar page. from what i saw before playing, Jacob didn’t interest me much. i was more excited for Justice Smith bc The G*t Down is one of best shows i’ve ever watched. but now that i’ve finished The Quarry several times over, Jacob has held the Number #1 spot for my favorite character!

he’s such a dork and he really warms my heart. not to mention his serious sides. Jacob has alarmingly low self esteem and abandonment issues that become more apparent the later into the game you get. he’s a really interesting character!

abt the cringe stuff: any Supermassive fan getting on a character for being cringe must’ve been asleep when their other games were released. one of the company’s most well known perks is quirky dialogue so to suddenly have a problem with it now is wild.

so far the biggest group i’ve seen that found Jacob embarrassing are the let’s players who were more focused on pairing Jacob up with Emma, instead of genuinely enjoying the characters as their own people. which is sad bc Emma and Jacob are a lot more than just their former romance.

for example, if you look at the “peanut butter butterpops” dance as Jacob simply trying to woo Emma, then yes it’s a bonafide fail. but if you view it as Jacob being super excited to find a snack he hasn’t seen in years, one he loved so much that he memorized it’s jingle, and is so overjoyed at finding a bag he erupts in unrestrained song and dance, only to grow even MORE excited at the idea of introducing said snack to someone who’s never had it before, then the moment comes off as endearing and tooth achingly sweet.

abt the nitpick stuff: tbf i don’t think Jacob is the only character that gets picked on:

Ryan definitely does, like a horrendous amount. most of the times i’ve seen ppl praise his character is just when they ship him with Dylan. and even THEN sometimes ppl will say comments like “Dylan deserves so much better tho, poor guy”. Ryan gets shat on a lot and it’s very uncalled for imo.

as does Emma. ppl hated her island vlogging and call her all types of insults for the way she went abt the dare. which is unfair bc there’s tons of moments where Emma’s deeper personality shines. she’s very concerned for the well being of animals and only wants to make ppl as happy as she can. she is not just “The Girl Who Kissed Her Best Friend’s Crush”™️. she’s fleshed out and deserves her props.

and then there’s that “sociopath/secretly abusive Nick” thing going around. i’ll admit i thought it had merit for a short while, but i’ve come to realize it doesn’t, not as much as ppl think it does anyway.

i believe the only ones who are solid fan faves are Dylan and Kaitlyn. 90% of the fanbase loves Laura, but debate whether she took up too much screentime in Chapter 7 or not. i love Laura but i’m part of the group that agrees her story shouldve either been spread out more or saved for a DLC.
