seliot - “The Way I Loved You” (Fearless) eliot belongs to the marvelous @kc-and-oc

“He is sensible and so incredible /And all my single friends are jealous” this is pretty straightforward: eliot is a very sensible ravenclaw, and there’s a reason selene is into him in the first place. and i too would be jealous of anyone dating adam brody’s face.

“He opens up my door and I get into his car / And he says you look beautiful tonight / And I feel perfectly fine” eliot is quite the courteous little gentlemen when the two are getting along, and i feel like this line fits with that one wildflower prompt u did for these guys!

“But I miss screaming and fighting and kissing in the rain / And it's 2AM and I'm cursing your name / You're so in love that you act insane / And that's the way I loved you” if i could only use one word to describe seliot, i’d say passionate. and that includes their breakups and heartache as well as their good times. the chorus of this song really captures that passion that i associate so strongly with seliot.

“Breaking down and coming undone / It's a roller coaster kind of rush / And I never knew I could feel that much / And that's the way I loved you” rollercoaster is one way to put it, and a really perfect, really fitting way to put it i think. i especially love the “i never knew i could feel that much” because hey, it’s their first love, and it’s very intense!

there’s another verse about some more positive and cute relationship things, and then the chorus repeats. then we get the bridge: “He can't see the smile I'm faking / And my heart's not breaking / 'Cause I'm not feeling anything at all / And you were wild and crazy / Just so frustrating / Intoxicating, complicated” seliot is many things, but it’s never boring, and there’s never any question how real the feelings are behind it. this song compares a seemingly perfect relationship to a wild and passionate one, claiming that those feelings just weren’t there in the perfect one, and that it’s through all of the crazy fights and breakups that they know how strongly they feel for each other.

hehe if u need some good bitter breakup songs for these two, i am, once again, dropping this album here :)

lizion - “Wonderland” (1989 Deluxe Edition)

“Flashing lights and we / Took a wrong turn and we / Fell down a rabbit hole” all right so this would be that part in aob where lizzie is realizing her feelings for orion, and she’s metaphorically falling into this rabbit hole because of all of the drama.

“You held on tight to me/ 'Cause nothing's as it seems / And spinning out of control” lizzie’s whole world is falling apart- she’s fighting with rowan, charlie, and sometimes skye while going through this big emotional crisis. but, throughout it all, she has orion to hold onto.

“Didn't they tell us don't rush into things? / Didn't you flash your green eyes at me? / Haven't you heard what becomes of curious minds? / Ooh, didn't it all seem new and exciting? / I felt your arms twistin' around me / I should have slept with one eye open at night” the astronomy tower scene! lizzie gets caught up in her feelings and alcohol and gets a little too rash, which has disasterous consequences.

“We found Wonderland / You and I got lost in it / And we pretended it could last forever (Eh, eh) / We found Wonderland / You and I got lost in it / And life was never worse but never better (Eh, eh)” orion is such a wonderlandiful guy, isn’t he? the vibe that lizion gives off to me is that they seem like they can be in their own little absolutely adorable world together (especially in rockstar au!) “life was never worse but never better” i’m not sure what to add it just feels like it fits, you know?

“But there were strangers watching / And whispers turned to talking / And talking turned to screams” frigging rumors. but, another important point of their relationship and obstacles in aob!

“I reached for you, but you were gone / I knew I had to go back home” that point when lizzie chooses rowan over orion

“And in the end, in Wonderland / We both went mad” well, they didn’t actually, but there was a point when i was worried they were gonna go mad from all that stress!

side note - wildest dreams totally gives me rockstar! lizion vibes, even though orion doesn’t really fit the bad boy narrative the song has :)

dylanielle - “You Are In Love” (1989 Deluxe Edition)

“One look, dark room / Meant just for you” c’mon now, these two are totally the make-eye-contact-across-the-classroom-and-smile type.

“Buttons on a coat, lighthearted joke / No proof, not much, but you saw enough” one of the most important parts of this beautiful friends-to-lovers ship is that they show their love through little interactions (*cough* shadow puppets *cough*), rather than reallly grand romantic gestures. it’s not huge proof, but it’s enough to know theyre in love.

“Small talk, he drives / Coffee at midnight / The light reflects the chain on your neck / He says, "Look up" / And your shoulders brush / No proof, one touch, but you felt enough” even when they had one scene that they featured in that zadie and reva story, it was very clear that they were a couple from their casual and normal activities, like studying together, or getting coffee at midnight. and they’re totally the type to accidentally brush shoulders!

“You can hear it in the silence (Silence), silence (Silence), you / You can feel it on the way home (Way home), way home (Way home), you / You can see it with the lights out (Lights out), lights out (Lights out) / You are in love, true love / You are in love” all these two have to do is walk next to each other, and you can just tell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

then we get some more little things lyrics that totally fits them, and we get this gem: “And for once, you let go / Of your fears and your ghosts / One step, not much, but it said enough” they both have the same ghost: this looming quidditch legacy draping over both of their heads! it’s through each other that they can help themselves in that regard.

“One night, he wakes / Strange look on his face / Pauses, then says "You're my best friend" / And you knew what it was, he is in love” it… it just sounds exactly like them! are we sure this song is older than this ship? it just fits too well!

“And you understand now / Why they lost their minds and fought the wars / And why I've spent my whole life trying to put it into words” no specific comment, just ugh these lyrics r so good!

Seeing as there's actually a completed Lizion WIP of mine that you don't yet know, have a little sneak peek of it:

I recognise the woman by his side immediately. She is wearing a cherry red dress beneath a heavy fur coat that gets taken from her shoulders. I don’t doubt the dress is as expensive as sin herself; the fabric shimmers in the light as she moves with a self-confidence that makes her look like she owns the world, and judging by the looks she’s receiving from both the man whose arm her hand is resting upon and the other men in the room, she might as well. It doesn’t take more than the slightest of smiles from her red lips, and the light from the chandelier isn’t as bright anymore, and the gemstones on the women surrounding her look dull. Nothing but a twitch of her lips, and suddenly it’s her who lights up the room.

This was actually the title-giving song of one of the key chapters in @the-al-chemist and my story When Stars Ignite, and one of the earliest scenes I had written out of turn of the whole project.

In this story, the things that the two of them don't tell each other become so overwhelmingly strong that something that has been nothing but good turns into something incredibly bad for both of them, but neither wants to completely let go. Have an excerpt here:

“Here you go,” she hissed, “no one’s listening anymore.” “I really don’t think this is necessary,” Orion said. Lizzie’s aggressive energy was unsettling him; she had been all kinds of annoyed over the last days, but it wasn’t like her to be so furious. Orion tried to step around her to get back to the door, but Lizzie quickly moved into his way, keeping him from the only way out of the room and the conversation he didn’t want to have. “I think this is absolutely necessary,” she replied, her voice dangerously calm. “Now, if you were so kind to enlighten me as to what the actual fuck is wrong with you?”

🎢 Which of your fics would you call your wildest ride?

It's not a fic anymore but When Stars Ignite still stands as an answer. It's been 1.5 years since I/we finished the first version of it and I'm still not done with it. Far from it.

🛒 What are some common things you incorporate in your fics? Themes, feels, scenes, imagery, etc.

Depends on the couple. Imagery repeats itself, ofc (see Lizion + celestial themes, for example) but there's also character traits I find myself falling back to again and again. My favourite one apparently is hybris leading to all my characters' demises.

✨ Give you and your writing a compliment. Go on now. You know you deserve it. 😉

I always lean toward using too much purple prose but I feel like since realising this, I've gotten quite good at cutting it out again, too.

❌ What's a trope you will never write?

I can't think of a specific trope that I loathe from the top of my head but in general, I wouldn't write tropes I can't relate to/am not interested in. These include monster love thingies (all those alien pregnancy fics out there in the nether just remain a closed book to me and I am very alright with that) as well as polyamorous ships. Nothing against them, they're just not for me.

What's next?

So you might have noticed that I have gone a little quiet in regards of games/reading/publishing stuff that hasn't been pre-written for months in advance lately.

That is because I've been a little busy bee behind the scenes and there are some big, big, big projects waiting in the pipelines I've been literally dying to share with you for months now, yay!

June - In the Balance

Over the course of June I will publish a mini-series called In the Balance, which is a collection of short stories dealing with Lizzie's 6th year at Hogwarts. There are five chapters to be published, which will go live every Tuesday for the whole month. Most of these chapters are wrapping up things that didn't make it into the final version of An Art of Balance, or headcanons I wanted to write out. They are also setting the course for a few themes for an even bigger project because...

July - A Search for Balance

After having this fic planned for more than a year and being intercepted by the Rockstar AU (rude, really), the second installment of the Balance series, aka the sequel to an Art of Balance, is coming along nicely. So nicely, in fact, that the first of its six parts will be published over the course of July and August. As of now, Part 1 consists of 12 chapters and they will go live every Tuesday and Saturday.

I'm more than excited to see canon!Lizion are back and I hope you'll come along with me on the ride 💛💛💛

What was the most exciting part for you in bringing your sweet kiddos to a more challenging adult drama for SfB?

What a good question, I might just need to adjust it a little bit 💛💙

Because, see, the biggest jump in writing wasn't taking my kids into SfB, which obviously is a lot more angsty, complicated and "dark" than Art of Balance was, but taking them from AoB to the Rockstar AU with When Stars Ignite. Writing teenagers freshly in love and then jumping to an AU where they're Rockstars in a very steamy flirtationship was... something. Like, it took me 11 or so chapters and the run-up to my first ever Lizion smut where it was just the two of them hanging out to finally find my way into the story - from then on it was easier to embrace their adult selves.

That being said, taking them from When Stars Ignite into Search for Balance had its own troubles, too. WSI ended on a very wholesome note, SfB started with drama and angst. Putting Lizzie and Orion both through this (again) was hard, and still is hard now that I'm nearing the end of the story in writing.

The hardest thing was to accept that they are both making very severe mistakes which I'd find hard to forgive myself if something comparable was done to me. You obviously want to like and protect your characters, and putting them through something where you think "I don't know if I could still like you if you did this to me" was... interesting, to say the least.

Goes without saying that I do still like them way too much for my own good, though 😂

9) What’s the most difficult thing they’ve been through together?

Revante: All in all, they are pretty chill and wholesome. Speaking for Reva only here, it was pretty hard on her when she realised how much she actually missed Dante while she was on her travels. Also, realising there was more on her part when she returned - actually being self-conscious about how she is perceived by someone was a very new sensation to her.

Dylanielle: Spending years in a long-distance relationship straight after Dana graduated was pretty hard on both of them, even though they had very different ways of expressing it.

Lizion: Dealing with the aftermath of the Second Wizarding War / The Battle of Hogwarts in particular, and how radically their life changed from there on almost tore the two of them apart for good.

Rockstar Lizion: Uhm... the whole second part of WSI, basically? 😂 In particular, I'd say the phase between Parts 4 and 5, where they both were kind of aware of their feelings for each other but had no chance to act on them was probably the worst for both of them.

16) What would they consider quality time?

Revante: Reva is all about going out and exploring, sharing her passions or making new memories altogether. She'd much prefer showing Dante how to skateboard or explore a new place with him than having a night in.

Dylanielle: Dana didn't care much for hiking or mountain climbing until Dylan began taking her along. Exploring a new trail or climbing track is one of their most favourite things to do.

Lizion: Since they live and work together, they generally spend most of their days in each other's company. That being said, if they manage to sneak away from friends/teammates/kids and be just the two of them - at the beach, stargazing, or even just reading next to each other - they're both perfectly happy.

Rockstar Lizion: It's what they do all day every day, but music runs in their blood. An afternoon spent just making music and jamming would be considered pretty much perfect by both of them. Also, Orion has yet to take Lizzie to that poetry slam he promised her. He will, one day.

25) Pick a physical attribute that they love about each other.

Revante: Reva loves Dante's eyes. She thinks their colour is absolutely beautiful.

Dylanielle: Dylan loves Dana's laugh. It goes from a slight giggle to full-on laugh, and then she gets a hiccup. Funnily enough, it's Dylan's laugh Dana likes most as well, because with Dylan being more on the quiet, serious side, a full laugh from the bottom of his heart isn't something that many people get to hear from him.

Lizion: Lizzie loves the way Orion's eyes light up when he smiles. Even after all these years, his smile still makes her heart beat faster. Orion loves how Lizzie's eyes remind him of the sea, whether it's bright and blue on a sunny day or dark and stormy when there's she's angry.

Rockstar Lizion: Lizzie *loves* all the many tattoos Orion has, and the story behind them. She could probably draw them from memory... if she could draw at all, that is. Orion would be lying if he said that he didn't enjoy the way being a professional drummer and once-aspiring athlete shaped Lizzie's physique.

Happy FFWF! 💛 You wrote AoB so long ago now. Is there anything that you would do differently if you were to write it with more experience under your belt? And what bits do you look back at and feel immensely proud of?

Look at you pulling the question from my brain I have been asking myself over and over for quite some time now 😂

Short answer is - yes, there are definitely things that I would change.

You know I don't do short, though, haha.

But really, the one thing I would most definitely change is the whole friendship factor between Lizzie and Rowan in AoB. Seeing as it was my first fic back after over a decade of not writing at all, I didn't quite know what I was doing (compared to now), and I found I enjoyed exploring the friendship between Lizzie and Skye much more than I did Lizzie and Rowan. If I were to rewrite AoB, I would take more time and care to build these two up, as I would for Charlie and Penny as well. Tonks I would probably just leave out because she didn't add to the story at all.

That's another thing I would do, see what in AoB actually serves the plot or character development and what doesn't. Lizzie and I were still in the process of getting to know each other when I started out, and there are a lot of things in there that are references to the canon MC. Lizzie isn't my Curse-Breaker kid but I still gave her loads of things like the love/talent for CoMC, the brother named Jacob, etc. Some of these I'd keep (Jake my beloved) others would def need to go because Lizzie turned out to be her own wonderful person.

In terms of what I feel proud of are the big emotional scenes AoB had to offer, namely the two big romantic Lizion scenes and the scene between Lizzie and Skye in the stands towards the end. Of all these, my biggest "achievement" so to speak, is Moonglow, imo. I have yet to write something that packs the same punch.

Another thing I'm maybe not proud of but rather wistful about is how effortless writing AoB was. I think this is the downside of developing your skill, ambition and methods - you know what you're doing(ish) but that also means you're way more critical with yourself, and the ease that comes with just writing what's in your head and only edit a little bit gets lost.
