Made it to Ring Mine. First human contact in over a month. It was nice to hear another voice, but I wonder if I’m going to be able to sleep tonight. I had forgotten about how noisy starports can get. That constant low rumble. Distant echoes of the announcements over the PA system. Life. I’ve become used to the silence of deep space and the wind on the ice.

I received no less than two awards upon turning in the data and samples I’d collected over the past month. I am now an Elite I Explorer and an Elite Exobiologist. Feeling quite proud and accomplished.

It now remains to be seen if I can cover almost 1,000 Ly back to the Bubble without getting distracted.

Something's stirring in the Hollow Woods. I'm not sure what, but I've heard murmurs from Valedale's ⬛️. Aroaceptember day 4

Yeah, I'm still doing this, I have other things planned, but I've been distracted. :C, plus scattering them around like this helps me think of other ones I like.

Anyway, someone commented on my og post about how aplatonic people are the most left out, I talked to a friend about it days ago, and I looked it up to see how I could dedicate a post to it, so I'll try my hardest here, if I get anything wrong in this, please don't hesitate to let me know! I won't bite as long as you don't.

Anyway the character I wanted to talk about on this occasion is Providence from Risk of Rain.

His brother Mithrix believed the two of them were unfit to live on that planet, as he thought the two of them were better than the other creatures and that they were destined for something grand out there. Mithrix was good with designing constructs, and Providence was good with crafting them, so Mithrix had them team up to create many things, including a portal that was going to lead them out of the planet and other places across the galaxy.

Providence did hold his brother dear, he did not dislike nor hate his brother, for his sadness to leave the planet has more to do with the next action he was about to take: betray his own brother and keep him locked up in the moon for the rest of his life.

Mithrix felt justifiably angry and betrayed by this action, his own brother would choose many creatures over him, how much would he love these creatures to betray his own brother like that?

But when he mentions that, he is blinded by rage. And even amidst his fit of blind anger, he starts to question that.

And as he spent years trapped there, only being able to witness, he realizes that what pushes Providence to grant protection to these creatures is not love, which fuels his anger and ambitions more.

Even though the creatures believe this is a gesture of love from him, what they say also states otherwise, as they do their best to express gratitude for him, their savior, but he just doesn't pay it any attention at all.

To the point he will be ready to slay any creature that takes a hold of the Beads of Fealty, as possessing them seems to represent an implicit pact between the bearer and Mithrix himself, so no matter how devoted is Providence to protecting these creatures, he will not hesitate to slay them if they hold these beads.

Ultimately, I don't think Providence is fueled by bad intentions, after all the decision to trap his brother pained him immensely, if he didn't like his brother, he would have never helped him with all those constructions, and he still cares about these creatures enough to grant them a home, but his actions are not fueled by love, not even to his own brother.

These games are just a gigantic tragedy. I wanted to hold off a bit in case RoR Returns release date was announced, but they keep avoiding to give one so I post this.

I know we were all very excited for tumblr to meet the Texas Cowboy, and I was too, but the thing that I absolutely cannot wait for is the creeping, bone-chilling horror of the ship landing at Whitby and the logbook detailing its journey. the shenanigans at the castle are well and good, and I know we all love to see the polycule polycule-ing, but the logbook is where I think the story gets genuinely and properly scary for the first time

One month in the Pleiades

It has now been a month since I arrived in the Pleiades Sector and the Pleiades nebula and what a learning experience this has been! I’ve met Thargoids (and survived), I’ve successfully landed on high-gravity bodies without even damaging my shields, I’ve found new types of life I had never seen before, I’ve visited a number of abandoned settlements, I’ve found large Thargoid surface structures, I’ve helped rescue people, I’ve seen several black holes, and of course, I’ve been enjoying unique views of the nebula from all kinds of distances and angles.

For the most part, I’ve actually been spending the month following the trails hinted at by the listening posts scattered throughout the place. Finding the listening posts is fairly easy, but finding what system they refer to is another matter, and it’s been a lot of trial and error. It’s not all bad though; this gave me the opportunity to visit some systems I might not have stopped at.

The Thargoids are everywhere here. Overall, it almost seems like this area has now found some sort of balance between human and Thargoid spaces. The ones I’ve met were mostly indifferent towards humans, unless we get too close to their space -- I suppose that’s what happened to the burning megaships and capital ships I found drifting in green clouds. I’m not always sure how to interpret their intentions when they turn around to face me and do that thing with the green tendrils. (Some sort of scan?) They do seem to be pretty secretive and not enjoy being probed or approached too closely.

I did visit some abandoned settlements dating back to the war and the Thargoid incursions though, and they often had heart-wrenching stories to tell. So many people killed, forced to evacuate, or even left for dead. Sometimes it seems the Thargoids were only reacting to what the people had been doing and were angry at humans; other times it seems the settlements were attacked just because they happened to be there. There was a story of a merciful Thargoid who just turned around and left, though. I’ve read that they probably have some sort of a hive mind, but I wonder how individual decisions come into play.

One time, I visited an abandoned penal colony that had been attacked by Thargoids. Everything was empty as I listened to the voice of the probably long-dead Chief warden on the logs I downloaded, but then I must have accidentally restored power and the automated settlement defences came back to life and started shooting at me. I managed to dismiss my ship before she was damaged, and escaped, full throttle on, with the SRV. That was terrifying. My heart is still racing as I am writing this.

There’s something else, though. Coded messages hidden here and there. Whispers about men in black and paramilitary groups shutting down operations. Strange ships appearing out of nowhere, guns out and ready to shoot down anyone without asking any questions. I don’t want to get in too much trouble, but I must admit I feel tempted to go and stick my nose in there and figure out what the hell is going on. The bad guys might not be the octagonal aliens themselves...

I don't know how long I am going to stay here, but there is more to find in this area, so I am going to do my best to follow all those trails before moving on. (The question then is, will I go back to the Bubble, or deeper into the Black? That remains to be seen.)

1.an album you can’t stop listening to lately

Machine Gun Kelly's "Bloom". Next to "tickets to my downfall" probably my favourite album of his. It has "Rehab", and "Habits", and "27", and "Bad Things", and "Golden God", and "The Gunner" which is trashy as fuck but I love it anyway. Currently almost always playing this album at work during clean-up. (But also Halsey's "Badlands". Idk I don't even listen to her much, but I just love "Badlands".)

5. name an album you feel is perfect

ASP's "Verfallen #1: Astoria". Love everything about it - the omnious start with "Himmel und Hölle (Kreuzweg)", the anticipation of the protagonist leaving Berlin, heading for Leipzig, and immediately seeing the Astoria, falling in love with her, then the slow descend into both the hotel and the unhealthy relationship, half aware of it ("doch insgesamt, spüre ich, geht es bergab"), the last resistance against her wishes, the breaking of that resistance and the murder of poor Loreley, and the closing track, that's both teasing the continuation and just reference after reference to ASP's other work... Apparently I have a lot more feelings about that than I thought xD

8. name an artist/band that isn’t touring at the moment who you’d really like to see in concert

In Extremo aren't touring right now I think, and I really want to see them live again! And also Vogelfrey, who are definitely not touring atm.

13. if you could talk to any musician, who would it be? what would you want to say?

Asp. No discussion. I want to thank him for his music (not sure I'd still be alive without him), especially for "Leviathan" and the logbook entry for it, and also I'd love to just get to chat with him, because his mind is amazing.

19. who is your favorite member of your favorite band?

It's Asp. He is ASP, and he's responsible for everything that makes ASP ASP, so of course it's him. (But Micha/Das letzte Einhorn from In Extremo is also someone I love very much.)
