(same anon who asked for sinu analysis) well first off let me ask your thoughts on YeonhuixSinu

Despite my undying love for this man- I'll admit they're cute n all BUT I always felt it was undeveloped.

I don't know if it's just me but when Jason (I think) said he'd snitch about him being with neko to her I was confused back when he was still under the influence of those pills at workers. Like, Did I miss something? Did I forget something from the gaps between the arcs? Idk. But even if she was shown to be worried over Sinu, it didn't seem romantic at all especially that all the big deal girls cared too. PTJ also made it seem like an already established relationship and I'm still questioning when?? She seemed to know him well and all but no hinting of any romantic attraction was there, just your average big deal romanticism and admiration lol.

I understand that PTJ has to leave some details away for the sake of the pacing but I think he could've at least thrown some hints here and there.

ok yeah. so this won't be a super long post because i am tired but good lord i am very... lukewarm about sinu and yeonhui. im with you on the "who?" when yeonhui was mentioned again in 2a. now im glad that sinu is with someone he's happy with but man... sinu and yeonhui is just such a mid ship compared to literally anyone else he could've been shipped with. let me explain.

yeonhui's lack of presence in the story. now this is probably the main reason i find this ship so lackluster. how am i supposed to root for a ship when the female love interest is literally like npc #125? while she did have more presence than the other girls on the street, this isn't really a high bar considering ptj's track record writing female characters. and this isn't to say she was boring or had a bland personality either (even though she KINDA did...). she was strong and independent, stood up to samuel when he tried to extort them for money (iirc), bore the burden of sinu's sacrifice and stayed strong for big deal, and was there to comfort jake when he learned of the news. she could've been a REALLY interesting character because she was so strong and also stuck to her ideals in the same way sinu did, so they could've been such a power couple, had yeonhui been developed more. it would've been nice to see yeonhui and sinu strategize about how to protect big deal together, or see more of yeonhui bandaging and caring for sinu after he gets hurt, or seeing sinu bring yeonhui gifts and money... or anything, really. the two have barely have any substantial interactions over the entire arc besides the last part where sinu's about to sacrifice himself, so much so that it makes me wonder... who is this yeonhui person? why are they important again.

chemistry. this mainly comes up to personal preference but yeonhui and sinu feel more like an older sister-younger brother dynamic to me. yeonhui took sinu in as a child, fed, clothed, and cared for him, and then continues to take care of him as an adult, which comes off as big sis behavior. again, some people may like this dynamic romantically, but i personally find it super platonic and sibling-leaning.

other sinu ships. idk. just find it a LITTLE heteronormative that any man and woman who share a little bit of screentime together are instantly a couple while sinu and jake can be out here pulling "you are my everything" and "i came back to big deal for you and you alone, jake" moments, and they'll still be just "good bros". again, kind of up to personal preference, but if you compare yeonhui x sinu to jake x sinu or even samuel x sinu, there's a clear lack of interactions and chemistry for yeonhui x sinu

so yeah. thats kinda it. this ended up being way longer than i expected so im not gonna write a conclusion paragraph but those are my thoughts around yeonhui and sinu together romantically.

Can I request a headcannon about reader being close with the big deal members during it's golden age more? Some Sinu, Jake and Samuel interactions along with the others if that's okay! if it it's totally fine

This is a bit of a mess because there’s so many variations.

— Sinu thinks of you as a little sister. He’s a bit protective of everyone associated with Big Deal by default. Most of the times, he’s pretty goofy around you. If you have known Jake before this, you might realize you got another annoying gnat. His brand of humor differs from Jake, however. You can see that Sinu is genuine in his lighthearted manner, unlike Jake’s deadpan approach.

&. He’d be a bit relieved to see that you won’t get involved with their businesses. Nothing good comes from crew gathering, after all. However, he trusts you to have a good head on your shoulder. If you does decide to join, he’d welcome you with open arms in the beginning. The apprehension seeps in eventually, but he tries his best to not sound nagging. After all, he did a lot of stupid back when he was your age a few years ago. If he forbade you from it, he’d sound hypocritical.

&. Should you be close to Jake, he’d take notice of the other boy’s budding crush on you. He wouldn’t talk about it much to you, but he does work to nudge the two of you towards each other. He finds it hilarious that Jake is in the same position as him when it comes to feelings. The two of them often commiserate in their shared misery. At times, both of them get scolded at together by you and Yeonhui.

&. On another hand, if the one you have… romantic chemistry with is Samuel, oh boy. Sinu is very… shifty about this. He doesn’t think it’s his position to interfere, but at the same time, Samuel doesn’t have the best reputation with dating? Even if it turned out to be nothing… he can’t help how his eyes twitched behind his glasses whenever he noticed it. He wouldn’t say anything ever, but if you noticed how he got more jumpy, there’s your explanation.

— If you were his crush, Jake would like to keep you as far away from his Big Deal businesses as possible. Not because they were doing anything shady, but because rival gangs might target you because of your association. In general, he’s pretty open to the idea of you getting along with his brothers-in-arms, especially Jerry, Jason, and Brad. If you ought to interact with Samuel at any point, Jake will tease you about Samuel being your type and bemoan how you will pick the other boy over him. It’s all very lighthearted and meant to get a reaction.

&. Getting along with his friends is basically a must for him. You don’t have to be close, but at least, he wants everyone to get along. He absolutely knows that all three of them and Sinu had been teasing you about his crush. The fact that you always respond with a vaguely pissed expressions of confusion amused him immensely. Unlike Sinu, Jake is pretty tense about the idea of you possibly joining Big Deal. For the peace of his mind, please stay away from any crew’s violence possible.

&. On another hand, if you were only a friend, he doesn’t mind as much should you choose to enter Big Deal. There’s always a level of worry he has for all of his friends of course, but he has a tendency to especially prioritizes the one he loves. You’d think he messes with everyone the same but there’s a distinct difference between his friends and crush. With his friends, he’s far more deadpan and detached but with his crush, he smiles and touches a lot.

&. Jake decidedly doesn’t know anything if Samuel has… an interest in you. Likely, it’d have to be pointed out by someone else before he took notice. Even if he did, he wouldn’t really… do anything about it. Not his business, not his interest. And he’d like to believe that the two of you know what to do. Maybe he’d mention it then and there in vague terms only to get a glare from Samuel that was funnier than it should be. Other than that, it’s not really what he’d care for.

— Samuel is… testy, regardless of your association with Big Deal. If you weren’t a member and only stay close because you’re a friend of Jake, he’d ignore your existence most of the times. Unless you caught him on a bad day, you’re pretty much air for him unless you somehow proved to be useful. Then, he’d probably goad you into joining to cultivate your skill. However, he’d probably not push it if that got him into an argument with Jake. Now, that is annoying.

&. However, if you were a Big Deal member, that’d directly put you into his area of concerns. Depends on if you were among the muscles like the boys or you were among the sales like the girls. If you turned out to be another muscle, you’d get the same treatment as the rest of the boys. Arguably, he’d probably just chase you right out instead of hitting you like he’d do with the boys. You being one of the sales with the girls, however, received less of his harsh treatment.

&. However, you’d fly immediately under his radar unless somehow, you proved to be worth poaching. Without Jake’s adamant protection, Samuel probably got his chance to put a few choice words into your mind. He’d drill it further when he found out he couldn’t rely on Jake. In a way, your “friendship” began because he saw you as an equal. You’re included in his plan of venturing towards Gangnam.

&. Once you’re closer to Samuel, you realized the he has a sense of humor. It’s quite sardonic and often at the expenses of others. You’d get along with him well if you had one such as that. He doesn’t care how you get along with his subordinates, but he’s more lenient when it comes to any of your teasing attitudes. He’s not quite as receptive to any prodding in general, but yours is tolerated. One can even say he has a spot for you. Not a soft spot, just that you have a place in his life if you chose to stay.

— Yeonhui sees you the same as the other girls in Big Deal. Maybe with a touch more protectiveness because you are younger and a smidgen more impressionable. She does try to keep you from the boy’s rowdy attitudes and violence if possible. Even if you can handle yourself, it doesn’t sit well with her if you get hurt when she could’ve prevented it. She often tries to act the big sister to you and chastises the boys if they tried to mess with you.

&. Yeonhui does know it’s a bit coddling, but she can’t help it. For example, Jake is a good kid but if he’s the one having feelings for you, she gets a little shifty-eyed. He reminds her a lot of Sinu and while she knows he will treat you right, nothing is stopping her from wanting to conk his head when he beats around the bush with you by teasing. He often receives the “just be honest to her while you can” lecture from Yeonhui.

&. If you’re one of the Big Deal girls, she’s a bit closer to you in terms of work. She’s grateful for the help you provided and often encourages you to not work too hard. While it’s great that their street is turning a profit, money isn’t the end all be all of everything. Often, she pushes you to socialize with other girls more and helps you integrate with everyone. Depends on your family situation, she can even show to be even more welcoming and hospitable, willing to lend her help to you should you need it.

&. Something about the idea of you being with Samuel doesn’t… sound right for her. She knows that you can take care of yourself but her sisterly instinct often urges her to intervene. Not that she’d do anything while there isn’t actual problem to worry about yet. But every now and then, she often brings up the topic in a very vague manner to see how exactly you feel about Samuel. The thought that you don’t harbor romantic intention for him relieves her.

— How Jerry thinks of you depends on your association with Jake. If you ought to be Jake’s crush, he basically acts like you’re Jake’s wife already. Jerry often says out-of-pocket things which spell out Jake’s true feelings in clear letters for you. Often, this results in Jake scrambling to cover it up before the truth is exposed. It can be said that Jerry has been your biggest shipper since he asserted that you’re worthy of Jake’s undying love.

&. If you’re only a friend, then he treats the same as the rest of Big Deal. You’re a reliable comrade in arm and you’re nice to him. That’s enough for you to be in his good book. It’d be nice if the two of you developed a friendship independent of other people’s influence. Jerry is gentle and devoted to those deserving of his friendship, there’s no doubt you can trust him to have your back as long as it doesn’t conflict with Jake’s intention.

&. Similarly, both Jason and Brad get along well with you should you be in the good books of Jake and Jerry. The four of them often stick together, which makes good friendship with one often extends to the other. If you were the object of Jake’s affection, expect meaningful looks and jokes from Jason and Brad. Sometimes, even obvious prodding from Jason’s side which makes Jake laughs in exasperation. It’s funny for the two of them to watch Jake dance around you, but you can always rely on them. Your importance to Jake is enough for them to want to protect you no matter what comes next.

&. On another hand, if you’re not Jake’s crush, the dynamic shifts a little. Both of them get along well with you, but you aren’t exactly close unless you make an effort to reach out and hang out with them. Jason might get a little flirty with you from time to time, especially if you can get teasing and sling retorts back. It doesn’t really get anywhere serious but it does make him a bit more protective should you get Samuel’s attention. He’d be far more open about any other members when it comes to confronting you about it, his worry won’t wane even after you reassured him that nothing is going on.

Lookism Ending

When the mystery of the two bodies end and Charles Choi is finally defeated, I want lookism to go back to the old lookism era where everyone is being silly and doing dumb shits (like Jacedaichi arc or Seonong goes to Seoul arc) and finally pursuing a career as they'll be an adult.

Yenna will be in kindergarten! maybe Zack will gain enough courage to ask Mira out and he'll become the official best boxer of the world, honestly I want to see them getting married (⁠ ⁠ꈍ⁠ᴗ⁠ꈍ⁠), Zoe will probably ask Daniel out too (⁠ ⁠╹⁠▽⁠╹⁠ ⁠),Jay won't feel lonely anymore , all of his businesses will be successful(⁠ ⁠´⁠◡⁠‿⁠ゝ⁠◡⁠`⁠), Vin wouldn't be scared to walk outside without his sunglasses and only wear them when it's a sunny day or two avoid unnecessary attraction, I hope he becomes a better person- and will apologise to Duke for what he did. Maybe he'll actually focus on improving his rap lyrics and will eventually become a famous rapper :⁠,⁠-⁠). But will still get his ass beaten by Mary for being rude sometimes. Mary supremacy forever ᕙ⁠(⁠＠⁠°⁠▽⁠°⁠＠⁠)⁠ᕗ. And when he'll retire from the industry, he'd go back to cheongliang and teach Ssireum or maybe he wouldn't become a rapper at all - and would go back to cheongliang right after graduation. Mary would probably go back to Cheongliang after graduation to teach judo and compete in Olympics and win <⁠(⁠￣⁠︶⁠￣⁠)⁠>. Excited to see how Leonn and Vasco ship will sail . BNC will be doing what they're doing but I think Jace will become a private investigator . Johan's condition will be cured by Jinyoung. Maybe not totally but enough to live day to day life better than he ever could. And he'd finally see how much Zack actually cared . SOS Men of Lookism: Urgent Bathhouse Meeting Part 2

!! Spoilers for latest arc. Massively breaking the fourth wall. Part 3

Another call for a meeting in as many months.

Samuel's lip curls as he reads the invitation. He doesn't remember the rest of the men being so needy.

Once again, they find themselves in the bathhouse.

Many absent this time, having made their peace with the storyline and their development. No obvious division to be seen, although they have naturally split into their own groups.

Still, the room is full of intimidating and powerful men naked and half merged in the water.

Sweat drips down their chiselled bodies, beads of water collect and pool in collarbones, rolling down hard pecs and sliding across cut abs.

The dampness from the vapour leaves a slick sheen on any exposed skin, highlighting scars and muscle. Hair damp, tendrils curling at the nape and locks framing their face. (Gun's 438 panel and the fan's reactions still at the forefront of most of their minds.)

Few of their usual guard and defenses are left, instead the heat of the water and the steam softens their edges, making them placid and pliant. Their voices mingle together, filling the air.

"Hey fuckos," Vin places an arm each around Hudson's and Jay's shoulder, "Do I complete the team or what. You guys are lucky to have me."

"It's nice to see you," Daniel agrees as the two blondes shrug Vin off, "Although it would be good to have Mary too,"

"True," Vin scratches his chin in thought. "Haven't see her in like 200 chapters."

"Yeah bro, when's our backstory dropping?" Taejin adds, sitting a little further away.

"Fuck OFF asshole, I'm not talking to you!" Vin throws a punch towards his former friend.

Vasco, ignoring Vin and Cheonliang's business, interrogates Jace about the status of his beloved Burn Knuckles, checking that all the welfare of his crew is ok.

"-And I like your earrings." Vasco inspects Jace's right ear.

"What about you?" Zack observes the rest of Allied with disinterest, instead seated besides Johan.

"I dunno. I really miss Eden and Miro," Johan worries his lip between his teeth, "I've been in this coma for forever."

"Shame." Samuel comments with a smirk as Jinyoung cackles next to him.

"Aish!" Sinu exclaims in frustration, "I can't believe I got arrested again. Yeonhui has been giving me grief non-stop."

"Huh? I thought it was unclear with you. Didn't you make it out?" Brad's brows knit in confusion as Jason shrugs.

"Sorry man," Jake apologises anyway, looking sheepish and scratching the back of his head.

Jerry, along with the other members of Big Deal, assures their boss that it's fine before addressing their No.6. "Lineman, looking forward to your power up."

Lineman gives them a winning grin, chest puffing with pride.

Taesoo watches a young!Gapryong wading towards him and the Kwak brothers. Their conversation stops, silence falling upon them as they notice his presence.

"Forgive my interruption," Gapryong starts, "Taesoo, please tell me how you managed to appear in so many flashbacks?"

Jichang's eyes drift over to Taesoo, "Share your secrets, Ansan."

Eli, standing bare by the showers, examines his reflection in a mirror, "I'm thinking of going blonde again."

Warren watches his friend, quickly losing interest in the conversation. "I [don't] care-"

"NO!" Goo jumps out, "There's too many blondes as it is." His fist waves in Eli's face. "I'M THE OG!"

"Put that away," Gun shoves his partner's hand roughly, "You'll find that that is Jay Hong."

"You fucking-!" Goo aims a kick in his direction, and a fight breaks out.

"So... what usually happens here?" Baek Hangyul directs to DG and Eugene, the three of them lazing in the water together.

Eugene gulps as he eyes up Hangyul's torso and abs, thinking that he should up his own workout routine.

And it's not that he is insecure with his body, but he can't help but shrink below the water a little when sitting in the middle of these two sex symbols.

"Not sure," DG says, running his fingers through his pink tresses and watching Gun and Goo squabbling at the far side of the bathhouse. "More fan service, I guess."

re-reading the jake kim arc for funsies AND i just want to say something : no hate to yeonhui but if either one of sinu or jake was a woman their story would be seen as one of the greatest romances ever written... but ptj wrote sinu - a character that is synonymous in the webtoon with the ideal of "romance" - into a relationship that is as bland as coleslaw. maybe it just irks me because there is no real emotional depth that i can draw from sinu's storyline and it feels like he was just given the token "happy ending" with npc 125. and there are two instances that strike me particularly - 1) the "just who am i to you" "my everything" exchange between sinu and jake in 2nd affiliate, and 2) "jake, everything is for you" during the hunt for big deal.

sinu and jake just exhibit such extraordinary levels of soul-matism. if lookism were a romance webtoon, and again, if either of them were female, the perception of their relationship would be immediately altered among a greater portion of readers. sinu always needed someone strong to share his burden for protecting the street and the people he cared about, and jake was just the right person at a not-so-right time. jake who always viewed the idea of romance as a vulgar, perverted, depraved caricature of itself because of his father's infidelity and emotional neglect, had his life altered by sinu's passion and romance, the two ideals with which he protected his family and street.

jake let go of his morals and self-respect and knelt before the same gangsters that he despised, ran an illegal gambling operation, had his teeth knocked out quite literally, went to juvie, lied to and manipulated the people who cared about him, and sacrificed the better days of his youth just for his revenge, his eternal quest to get sinu back. he was even ready to leave sinu with mitsuki, if that's what made sinu happy.

and sinu survived everyday in the indescribable hell of the circus with nothing but his steadfast belief in jake keeping him alive - his unfaltering hope that jake will come for him, no matter what.

the heteronormativity in shonen makes me chuckle sometimes because the writers will literally pen a love story for the ages, a Greek tragedy of star-crossed lovers between two "bros", and call it a day.
