It should be noted the inclusion of HRH The Duke of Rothes created quite the media speculation after the Duke was notable absent for several years following the abdication of his role as heir. Many proposed, the Duke's inclusion was meant to finally put to rest the years of speculation that there was bad blood between the royal household and the former heir. The Press office has stayed silent regarding the matter which continues to be a topic of discussion.

The One Where Theo and Macsen Get Arrested
After seeing @citylighten's post [x], I had to do it because this is the best way to describe the difference between Theo and Macsen. This is the embodiment of their personalities. So please enjoy this noncanon tomfoolery thanks to @sojutrait for the glorious pose [x].

re: hard character dev questions, let’s do 4, 14 & 41 for theodora & another character of your choice! maybe someone you think is most unlike her …
Thank you n. for the question and to answer it I'm going with the heir and the spare. Because they might be siblings but Macsen and Theo are not the same they're both built different.
#4 Has your character ever witnessed something that fundamentally changed them? If so, does anyone else know? Fundamentally for both Macsen and Theo, it was their mother's death that caused a seismic shifts in both of them. I've alluded to it but never said it directly or maybe I have, but I have gotten to the point where it's been shown. But Isobel made the active decision not to tell her kids, she was dying. She wanted to make the most of her time and make good memories. She didn't want them to be filled with this looming dread about when she was going to meet her end and so nothing was said until it was no longer avoidable. For both of them it was like being blindsided with the news that your mother is dying and you need to say goodbye now. It's a fucked position to put a teenage boy and small child in but Hamish went along with it because it was his wife's dying wish and so that was it.
Now Macsen loved being the heir because he loved the attention, he was loved and he was lusted after. The world was his but the thing was, he never liked the responsibility part that sucked. While his mom was alive while he was expected to take private lessons on what it meant to be heir and one day future monarch, life wasn't hard. Sometimes you do engagements but mostly live it up because this shit isn't gonna matter for years to come. That changed when his mom died and he realized what it meant to dedicate your life to service. This is the only profession in the world where someone has to die to get promoted. He didn't want to die for this, he doesn't want his dad to die. So for him, he realized he didn't love his country or the crown enough to die and in his cowardice was more then okay to drop the burden on his sister's shoulders.
Theo was eight when her mom died and when she has to think about that day again, she feels bitter almost angry about everything. All those happy members are now tinged with just sadness because it would have been better to know. She understand her parents where trying to protect them but she feels it did the opposite. Her mother's unexpected death has left her with this need to know what's going on. She hates with a passion dishonesty in any flavor but especially when there's lying even by omission because she knows sometimes not saying anything lasting effects on her life especially. It's why she resents Macsen and will never really trust him again. They went through the same pain of being left out of the loop but he was willing to do it himself again to her because he couldn't handle the pressure of his birthright and felt the need to jump ship leave the burden on her shoulders and she just really fucking hates the fact he just couldn't be honest with her.
They're both stuck with this idea of a stiff upper lip and so the people and those around them, either assume their mother's death effected them or that they're handling it very well but everyone knows that they've experienced loss on a global stage.
#14 Does your character remember names or faces easier? If Theo can remember your face the odds are high she'll remember your name. Macsen always remembers a face and the names of those that were nice him and the things you might have given him. This is more in his personal life, he likes presents so really he'll remember you if you gave him something.
#41 Does your character feel that they deserve to have what they want, whether it be material or abstract, or do they feel they must earn it first? Macsen is not the person to have a conversation about privilege with because he just doesn't get it and probably won't mostly by choosing to remain ignorant. He never had a hard time enjoying the spoils of being the heir to a powerful throne. He fucking loved it and if it wasn't for the fact he'd have to be king one day, he would have stayed the heir forever. Because he loves being loved. However since his choice to give it all up and the fact people aren't necessarily all that happy with him, it hurts and he is jealous that all the love and admiration belongs to his little sister now. He really don't understand much less think he deserves everyone's ire for deciding to chose a path for himself. Shouldn't they be happy for him?
Unlike her brother, Theo is not nearly self absorbed enough to believe she deserves everything she has This is because she won the lottery, this life is result of a game of chance. She knows she doesn't actually deserve this but this is her life and so she might as well make the most of it and do what she can to do something of actual note. When it comes to be the first in line for the throne, she knows she doesn't deserve it. It's not even hers, but it is now. It keeps her up at night what it means to be the heir and sometimes she thinks it's gonna crush her because it wasn't hers to begin with but it is now. I don't think she'll ever think she earned her life much less the throne. She was just there and circumstances changed leaving her the unfortunate chosen one for the role.

okay, okay, I love this ask game. 4, 14, 19, and 43 for your fave!
Hi thank you for asking, these questions are a challenge and I think for you my dear, you're gonna a mix answers.
#4 Has your character ever witnessed something that fundamentally changed them? If so, does anyone else know? Three deaths have fundamentally changed Hamish. The first death, his brother's meant he was no longer the spare. He was now heir to the throne and he wasn't prepared for it and there was nothing he could do about it. Then there was his father's death, it came quick and unexpected. He was barely learning the ropes of being heir, now he had to be the head of the household and now, he's also the king but he has his wife. Isobel was his greenlight, his soulmate, really truly his everything. So when she's gets sick, he felt powerless and when she died something died in him too. He gets a little colder and more detached, buried himself in work trying to avoid feeling grief or really an negative emotion. He isn't really as warm as he once was, he's more aloof and just different. His family can see a change but to the people he seems like a strong and capable leader. In the end, it doesn't necessarily matter how he feels or how he's changed if he's doing a good job. Right?
#14 Does your character remember names or faces easier? Hamish is really good about remember faces. Names are always on the tip of his tongue but as long as he can recall your face he can keep up an entire conversations without ever needing to utter your name.
#19 What is your character’s biggest relationship flaw? Has this flaw destroyed relationships for them before? Macsen is inherently selfish and entitled, he spent his entire life being handed everything he could want on a silver platter or rather gold platter, so for him, he's never necessarily had to work for relationships. Because while he was heir, girls were practically throwing themselves at him and they were always doing ten times more to keep his attention. Which meant he had to do nothing but be himself and reap the benefits. For him to have an actual healthy relationship would require reevaluation of his life and how he behaves. He has to learn that you can't just take, if you want real lasting love like what his parents had there's work involved and that you can't always be the one to take and never give. Remember it's better to give then receive, that's just not something Macsen understands. So for him to find real happiness would require actual work on not being a selfish asshole.
#43 Has your character ever had a dependent figure who was not related to them? For Hamish, it's his people. Yes he understands that he is a figurehead who doesn't hold the same powers as the kings of old when their rules were absolute but he does know the people look to him like they would a father. There's an expectation for him to lead by example and to be steadfast. It's rather emotional taxing having to be emotionless and strong all the time. But it's what's expected of him and so it's what he must do. He doesn't hate being king, I think he just hates being neutral all the time but that's his biggest responsibility. To be king for all his people, not just some of them. So even when he'd like to speak on something, he can't or else him might offend some of people. So he focuses on his work and the causes he cares about and just keeps moving forward.

The desire to abdicate, to give up - for me, that's primal.

Your monarch(s) is given two options, hand the throne over to another noble family or abolish the monarchy all together. Which do they choose?
Hi Sarah, this is very good question. Thank you for asking me 💖
I might ramble, so to make a long story short Hamish and Theo both as present and future monarchs would sooner see the monarchy be abolished and replaced with a democratic republic before they'd let anyone else take it from them. It's better to see something destroyed then be given to any other noble family. Macsen, given the chance would hand it over not because he loves the monarchy. No, he just wouldn't want to responsibility and this way he'd get to keep most of his titles and they'd still matter not like if the monarchy stopped existing all together.
The Rutherford's were never suppose to be on the throne. The first king from their Clan, was the youngest son of a Chieftain from a small clan in the highlands of Caledonia. They had no claim to the throne, not through the means of birthright or marriage. It was never suppose to be theirs. How they won the throne was with good old fashion bigger army diplomacy. Alasdair I, would be the last king to win his throne by means of combat and because of that there are plenty of noble families in Briton that see the Rutherford's as usurpers unworthy to wear the crown, and they've been fighting for centuries to seal their legitimacy to have the right to rule. So while it would be unthinkable to consider abolishing in the monarchy because to them it's their responsibility to keep it going. It would almost be a sin against the crown and country, to see it be handed to another family to rule in their stead. The house of Rutherford-Kerr is a noble one but also a petty one, that never forgot much less forgave those families that feel their claim to the throne better then theirs. So it's better destroy something then share it with anyone else.
