beyond the story: bitchin’
Tumblr media
Hi friends! I hope you are all staying safe and healthy during these tough times! I really wanted to put something out there as a thank you to just how much support Bitchin’ got. You guys really are incredible. So, although this story has come to an end, I wanted to properly close the Bitchin’ chapter by giving you all a behind the scenes look at Bitchin’ and everything that went into writing it. This includes hidden easter eggs, backstories, alternative plot-lines, and a short drabble of the Bitchin’ cast 10 years after the story’s end.
Without further ado, please enjoy and thank you again for all your love. You have all of mine.
CHAPTER ONE – PARTNERS
Ah, yes, the start of this whole wild ride. I’ve always loved the whole nerd/popular person trope in fanfics, so it was only a matter of time before I tried my hand at it too. One thing I was adamant about was not making this a “popular person turns nerd hot/confident/better” fic as its kind of one of my least favorite cliches. With that in mind, and knowing that I was going to allude to TATBILB’s contract, I decided that I wanted Y/N to gain as much from the deal as Jungkook did. No blackmail, no just agreeing for the hell of it – Y/N was going to further herself and her dreams given the opportunity.
The beginning of the chapter is where the two are most separated and dissimilar throughout the whole story. It wasn’t that they were fundamentally different, it was that they approached life differently. Y/N was frustrated at how superficial Jungkook seemed, because she believes there is much more to life than just kicking your feet up and cracking jokes.
On the other hand, Jungkook didn’t understand why Y/N was so tense and on guard. To him, life was meant to enjoy and not take so seriously. Which makes sense, given that he grew up with minimal rules and minimal worries (bare minimum partners wassup !)
“So, do we have a deal? Partners?” There was mischievous timber to his words, the kind that made you feel as if this would all later come back to bite you in the ass.
Pushing that pestering thought away, you took his hand into yours, holding his eyes as you gave it a firm shake.
“Partners.”
God, this bit. I knew from the minute I wrote it that I was writing the ending of bitchin’ along with it. I knew this was exactly how I was going to end this story, bc the word partners has multiple means right? In chapter 1, this meant business partners, but in the final chapter… it means life partners. Idk, I’m just still really happy with this writing decision :D
CHAPTER TWO – THE CONTRACT
Dearest Yara. We meet her in chapter two don’t we? Yara is completely based off of my irl best friend Yara who is a writer and who helped me A LOT with this story. She was my biggest supporter throughout figuring out this crazy plot. It was initially only about seven parts, but with her help I managed to bump it up to 10! Everybody say thank you Yaraaaa.
You were angry, that much was evident to her. Yara was sat in your shared dorm’s living room, a thick blanket engulfing her small frame. You briefly glanced towards the TV, it was tuned into MTV, the familiar music video of Every Breath You Take by The Police playing, before directing your glare back onto the copper-haired girl.
The song reference is a direct allusion to writer Yara’s fic, which is one of my favorite fics by her. She was actively writing it around the start of our friendship so it only felt right to pay respects to her. The introduction of her character felt necessary imo bc I wanted to make sure Y/N had a life outside Jungkook. Plus, I got to use the scenes between the two girls as a way to reference the music and culture scene. Yara is especially a fan of the powerful women in the music industry at the time, i.e., Madonna, Annie Lennox, Cyndi Laupner, etc.) Yara is a raging feminist and believer in sexual freedom and libery for women, we do in fact have to stan.
“How old do you think your sister is?”
“Hey, don’t sass me. For your information, Lyanna still has all her Care Bear tapes. She threw a hissy fit when my mom tried to give them away last Christmas.” Yara recalled.
Lyanna is one of writer Yara’s past pseudonyms. She always used to joke about how whenever she read it, it was confusing because there was Y/N, Yara and Lyanna, which were technically all her lolol.
FUNNY STORY ABOUT THE CONTRACT I INSERTED INTO THIS PICTURE… Twitter found it and made it into somewhat of a meme because no one knew it came from a fic rip. I was actually rly embarrassed and even wrote some posts about how much twitter scared me on my blog LMAO. but THEN weirdly enough, I actually stumbled upon a small community on twitter who actually found my fic and would TWEET ABOUT IT!!! LIKE REACTIONS TO EACH UPDATE!!! I wish I could go back in time and remember how giddy I was the first time I found a tweet about my fic. The fanfic community on twitter gave me a new love for the site (which I had previously had removed myself from because of its toxicity) and I have met so many wonderful people because of it. People even made themselves a little twitter group chat to talk about my fics, and now we are all friends! I miss posting a chapter of bitchin’ and refreshing my twitter feed as all my mutuals would post memes and live tweet their reactions. God that made me so fucking happy.
CHAPTER THREE – THE ROLLERSKATING DATE
I love the bickering in this chapter, because unlike the bickering in the first chapter, it’s actually less hostile and more playful. Y/N is slowly letting her guard down to the very persistently charming Jungkook.
“Woah. Family of six, huh? So you have siblings then.” He noted.
“Yep. Three.”
“Tell me about them.”
Looking up from where you were slipping on your second skate, you met Jungkook’s eyes, surprised to see genuine interest in them.
I actually originally had Y/N brush him off here. I was going to wait until the drunk party scene for Y/N to open up about her family and relationship with her sisters. But then I kind of thought to myself… Why? Y/N made peace with it and doesn’t hold onto those insecurities anymore. And objectively, Jungkook hasn’t proven himself to be a bad person so… I let Y/N open herself up to him.
“Then there’s the twins, Rosa and Lia.”
“Hold on. Twins? Wait… did they go to our high school?” Jungkook asked, his interest in this conversation doubled.
“Yep. They were two grades above us.” You confirmed.
“Oh shit, yeah, I remember your sisters, they were mad hot.” Jungkook let out a low whistle, before stiffening, flashing you an apologetic look. “Uh, in a totally non-meathead way.”
You offered the scared-looking boy a small smile, shaking your head.
Some of y’all notice but, Rosa and Lia are a blatant homage to my name: Roselia. ACTUALLY some form of my name can be found in every one of the rewind series fics, including upcoming ones. I’ll give a cookie to whoever can find every single mention hehe.
“I told you it was dumb.” You laughed nervously.
It wasn’t that you cared much about what Jungkook thought but you had a feeling a guy like him, who was popular and carefree, wouldn’t be able to sympathize in the way you would like him to.
“No, I’m just… surprised, that’s all.”
Jungkook certainly was surprised. You had built up quite the impression on him from the very moment you two met. It was hard to imagine that the girl who was so unapologetically herself was ever unsure or insecure.
Somehow, the idea tugged at his heart, as if he understood you more if only just a little.
From the get go, Jungkook was extremely drawn to just how confident and secure Y/N was in herself. I knew I wanted Y/N to be unapologetically sure of herself and in her abilities. Something I didn’t want, however, was for frat boy!jungkook’s only personality traits to be liking sex and being a cocky bastard (although I am a big consumer of that trope heh). Jungkook is actually canonly incredibly insecure. He lacks a real sense of self, which is why he is so desperate for Kiri back. His relationship with Kiri at that time was a big part of what he thought was himself. He has somewhat of low self esteem tbh which is why he’ll go back to a woman who treated him unfairly. That’s why he comes off the way he does in the first chapter and why Y/N thinks he has a big ego... he’s overcompensating. He finds it so endlessly fascinating that Y/N, in all her confident glory, was actually once super insecure. He admires her all the more once she opens up about her past.
“Oh, Rosa is an intern for our hometown’s newspaper but between you and me those assholes don’t even let her write. She does coffee and burger runs for men in charge. And Lia sells ice cream at the mall.”
“What about your brother?” Jungkook asked.
“He’s training to be a cop just like my dad.”
“And your mom?”
“She works at a convenience store.”
All their careers resemble people in the latest Stranger Things season (Nancy, Steve, Hopper, and Joyce). Fun Cameo there.
“What’s wrong?” You wondered, following his eyes.
“October 16th, 1985. 6:48PM.”
“Yes. That’s today’s date and time. What about it?” You pressed, growing confused.
“Remember it.” He warned.
“Why?”
“It’s when I fell in love with you.”
This iconic line I actually got from the real Jeon Jungkook himself. While Jungkook wasn’t actually in love with Y/N here, it certainly was a cute way for him to express his admiration for her.
OH HERE’S A FUN FACT: the hickey scene at the end of this chapter where JK and Y/N kiss for the first time was actually supposed to be Yara giving Y/N the hickey like the best friend she is. Ultimately I went with JK giving it for... smut purposes... ≖‿≖
CHAPTER FOUR – THE HALLOWEEN PARTY
The decision for Y/N to be Freddie Krueger came from me planning to be him for Halloween. And I was! JK as Glen Lantz just followed naturally. I’ve seen some great edits of him as the character. Truly chef’s kiss.
I really liked that Jungkook came over to the girl’s dorm to get ready. I didn’t want a scene where Y/N was thrown into a situation she was uncomfortable with which is how much Nerd At A Party Scene go so made sure Jungkook stayed by her side throughout the part, going out of his way to introducing her to the people he cared about.
Tae’s character came in when I realized I needed a way to actually put Y/N’s event in motion. He was the missing link and BOY did you guys eat his character right up huh. Love that for me.
Another thing, the confrontation with Kiri was so hard to write guys, I reeaaaally struggle with girl conflict. GIRLS SHOULD SUPPORT GIRLS. However, not everyone gets along in real life so I went with Kiri being more along the lines of petty rather than outwardly a cunt to Y/N. Realistically, Kiri is popular and well liked among the greek life so being unkind to someone she hardly knows wouldn’t make sense. There’s definitely tension between these two but I tried my best to steer away from the typical cat fight/revenge porn/public humiliation trope most movies seem to follow.
CHAPTER FIVE – THE FIRST TIME
Introduction to Erik!!!! It was really important to me that Y/N had a life before Jungkook. That's why I wrote in Y/N having a fiancé. She’s not opposed to love, she just has reshifted her focus. She knows what she wants and is choosing to focus on that, which why when she realizes she’s falling for Kookie she’s so hesitant to admit it because she’s fallen down that road before. Even though Jungkook treats her with respect and acknowledges the parts of her she’s most proud of, she just isn’t willing to possibly give up her passions for love. Which is why she doesn’t immediately confess to him, even once she’s sure she loves him.
“I’m serious, nerd. You’re like… um… the sun!” Jungkook marveled, eyes growing full as the realization dawned on him.
“The sun?” You laughed.
“Yeah, like… you’re this bright, beautiful thing that seems like it’s here in front of me but is really light-years away.”
Jungkook was drunk, and although you were sure he was making more sense in his head, you couldn’t help but feel your face grow hot, unsure of how to react to his drunk analogy.
“You’re the sun, Y/N. You make the world turn for you. Never orbit for anyone else.”
And suddenly, you were kissing him, for no other reason other than you wanted to and that it felt like the right thing to do.
No real commentary here. Just love this bit. It’s probably my favorite interaction between them two ‧⁺◟( ᵒ̴̶̷̥́ ·̫ ᵒ̴̶̷̣̥̀ )
“Also… She’s, uh, currently dating Eunwoo.” You told Yara.
Your best friend blinked, silence falling over her.
“Yara?”
“Good for her.” She perked up almost forcibly. “Let her put up with his annoying ass.”
Yara could see the way your expression had turned dubious as if you didn’t believe her nonchalant act.
Yara turned up her nose defensively, “What?”
Ugh yes, some character development from Yara.... the flavor ! Yara (much like Y/N and JK) also struggles with love. She has a real fear of commitment and if far more comfortable with casual sex than relationships. She did develop actual feelings for Eunwoo, she just wasn’t ready for that kind of commitment so she cut him off. Fleed the scene if you will. Typical gemini smh my head.
"I don’t think the contract mentioned orgasms.” Jungkook smirked as you released his thumb.
“I say we let it slide.” You shrugged, leaning into him casually.
“You think?”
“Totally. Think of it as… a bonding activity.” You joked, resting your chin on his shoulder, peering up through your lashes.
“Damn, we’re really committed to this fake dating thing, huh.”
You laughed in the way that you hated, but Jungkook loved; it was loud and abrupt, but it genuine, and it was you.
“What can I say, I’m a method actor.” You sighed dramatically, causing Jungkook to grin before pressing a kiss to your nose, simply because he liked the way it always seemed to make you smile.
GOD THEY’RE SO WHIPPED FOR EACH OTHER ITS DISGUSTING!!!!!! I’m really happy I decided not to make sleeping together a big deal and I got a lot of feedback from you guys agreeing! I had a lot of fun with these two’s sex scenes knowing they could do it whenever they wanted.
CHAPTER SIX – THE STEM EVENT
I started the scene with smut BUT I wanted to point out that much of their time spent together is at Y/N dorm, Jungkook either napping, hanging out or doing work as Y/N would study like she always did. I liked the idea that Jungkook would get bored and would want attention from Y/N because she was so focused. Idk, I just wanted to write a love story about two people spending time together and figuring out how they fit in each other’s lives as opposed to some dramatic I mEeT HiM aNd mY LiFe bEcAmE cRaZy. There’s nothing wrong with that plot line, I just didn’t want that for these two dorks. I wanted Y/N to interact with JK’s scene and crowd but not give up her own which is why most days JK and her just lounged around in her dorm studying.
Also, I don’t know how the teacher/student roleplay made it into the smut, it just did, no further questions (ʃ⌣́_⌣́ƪ).
Then the event scene.
“You’re whipped, dude! Seriously.”
Jungkook felt his face go red, “Shut up, no, I’m not.”
“Hey, I’m not judging. I get it. That’s your girl.” Taehyung shrugged. Jungkook placed a hand on the fold up table in front of him, staring down at the information pamphlet you had worked so hard on.
“She’s just… so fucking driven and passionate about everything she does. Sometimes I look at her, and I’m just like… holy shit, what am I doing with a girl like her? I feel like she’s totally out of my league and being with me is holding her back but— I dunno, man. I just… really like her.” Jungkook revealed, voice growing small.
An unexpected wave of tenderness fell over the two boys, Taehyung throwing an arm over his little brother’s shoulder.
“I’m happy for you, bro.”
Jungkook didn’t know it just yet but dude was talking from the heart and, is in fact, totally whipped :’c
I loved the confrontation scene between the boys and Eunwoo because the boys standing up for Yara really did make everyone feel like a friend group, not just some character who happen to exist at the same time. It wasn’t just Y/N and Yara and one side and the boys on the other. They would all become friends, which is ideal to me. A boyfriend who likes your best friend and considers her a friend so you can all hang out??? Yes please.
Initially, irl Yara and I had noooo clue if Yara would end up with Eunwoo or not. That was actually the original goal actually. But after this chapter four, you guys made it ABUNDANTLY clear that you guys wanted to see Taeyara, despite the two never even meeting! Honestly, it wasn’t until this chapter was written that we decided for sure that Eunwoo was out of the picture for Yara. Part of me really wanted to keep Yara single, but irl Yara insisted on dick and frankly, she’s right. Bitchin’ Yara deserved a shot at love. She definitely has her own story outside of Bitchin’ and will experience a lot of growth in the future.
“God, I know. I do not miss that temper of his.” She chuckled, her words piquing your interest.
“Temper?”
“Oh, yeah. Have you seriously not experienced it yet? He’s got some gnarly anger issues. Not to mention all the lying…” Kiri paused suddenly, straightening up as she flashed you an apologetic look. “Yikes, I’m sorry. I totally should not be telling you this. I’m not trying to be that gross girl that shit talks her ex to his current girlfriend.”
Miss Kiri, Miss Kiri. She really acted up this chapter didn’t she. There was a lot of discussion about whether or not those things she said about Jungkook were true. Which was exactly what I wanted hehe. We come to find out that Kiri had definitely stretched the truth. She really is good at manipulation and understanding how people think and it’s why she is in the role that she is in. Messy queen.
CHAPTER SEVEN – THE ROOFTOP DATE
This entire chapter was inspired by High School Musical with Troy and Gabriella’s rooftop garden scenes. This was my shortest chapter and honestly, probably not my strongest. I definitely went into writing this with zero concept of what I actually wanted to happen. Usually when I write my chapters I have a 4k long outline of it beforehand that I go off of. Not this one though. I really just winged it and I tried my best to write a chapter that really showed off (dialogue wise) just how this couple bounces off each other. I do really like some of the banter they have in this chapter.
You had taken note a little wooden popsicle stick poking up from the soil of the yellow flowers. Acacias, they were marked. Pulling your knees up to your chest, you considered his words.
Yellow acacias stands the value of true friendship and can indicate a secret love! I thought that was very appropriate given these dummies' relationship.
“So, you probably know why I brought you here.”
You nodded.
“You’re proposing, right?”
“Yeah, I– oh, shut up.” He laughed, the serious mood shattering as you joined him.
Even though I knew they were going to have a semi serious talk, what with Y/N asking about what Kiri had told her, these two dufuses realistically are just too comfortable with each other to stay serious for too long.
“Hey, I said that out of frustration, I didn’t really mean it. I’m sure she’ll come crawling back soon.” You attempted to comfort him, hoping to sound sincere.
“Even if that’s true, I’m not entirely sure I want that anymore.”
“What?” You blinked. Jungkook shrugged.
“What about us?” He met your eyes, causing your breath to hitch.
“What about us?”
Jungkook stared at you for a moment, noting the way the timber in your voice had become higher pitched as if panicked.
MORE FUN FACTS LMFAO: I typically do this thing with unplanned chapters where I just go for it and write and usually it works out. But when I wrote this down I remember stopping and being like ??? WHY DID I JUST WRITE THAT ??? I don’t like deleting my writing so I had a serious think to myself about whether this was going to be the moment Jungkook confessed or not.
Canonly, I decided that Jungkook did in fact mean ‘us’ in a romantic sense, but because of the way you perceivably panicked at that possible meaning, he decided against taking the conversation in that direction, instead speaking about ‘us’ in a platonic sense. Poor kookie :(
“Stop. Listen to me, Jungkook, you’re a fucking great guy, okay? You’re charismatic and funny and care about your friends… sure, you almost ruined my event, but it was mostly to defend my best friend when Eunwoo got too pushy, right? You’re a good guy, meathead. I know I joke about your ego, but I really believe you’re capable of more than you think you are. Seriously, Kiri is so lucky to be the object of your affection.”
Jungkook watched the way the sun’s orange light kissed your face, a bittersweet feeling growing in his chest as he contemplated the object of his affection. Just a couple of months ago, he would have had no doubt about who held his heart, but as you held his stare, he found himself unsure and yet, entirely sure all the same.
“Jungkook? You okay?” You frowned, catching in the sadness in his eyes.
“Hm? Yeah, yeah. I just… realized something.”
“Oh? What’s that?”
“…It doesn’t matter.” He smiled, the gesture hardly reaching his eyes.
It’s in this moment that Jungkook decides that there is no way you hold the same affection towards him that he does to you. He mistakes your words of comfort as you pushing him away. You are so kind and encouraging and Jungkook loves you so much that hearing you insist about him ending back up with Kiri hurts him so bad.
But you are still unsure about your feelings and genuinely believe that's still what Jungkook wants. You’re just being a supportive friend!! :( It isn’t until the end of this chapter when Y/N has her talk with Yara that she realizes, oh man, she’s in deep.
CHAPTER EIGHT – THE MISTAKE
BLAH. This chapter is so BLAH, you know? Having to write this chapter was SO HARD. I texted irl Yara complaining about how much I hated having to put my characters through this and that I wanted to just end the story on chapter 7 and keep them happy forever. BUT ALAS! I had planned for this to happen from the start.
You tasted like the mint of your favorite brand of toothpaste. He imagined if he had caught you any later then the mint would have been accompanied by the taste of coffee, knowing the way you rarely started a day without a cup.
God, he had missed the taste of you.
What you guys didn’t see is Jungkook spending the night with Kiri, and immediately kicking her out, freaking out as the weight of guilt washed over him. He knew he had done nothing wrong, that you weren’t his real girlfriend, and that getting back together with Kiri was exactly what he had signed up for. It was what he should’ve wanted. But it wasn't… because you were what he wanted. And that was exactly what he was going to tell you as he marched over to your apartment.
But he panicked. His mind already decided that your answer to him would be no– that you didn’t feel the same. So he kissed you. He had you in the only way he was allowed to. He was selfish and impulsive and so incredibly scared that he ended up hurting the person he loved the most.
Initially though, I had Jungkook get back together with Kiri, not that he slept with her right before sleeping with Y/N. But I decided TEEHEE let me just make everything erupt into flames. However, I didn’t realize just how angry with Jungkook you guys would get. I remember thinking DAMMIT WAS THAT TOO SCANDALOUS?? I knew I was going to have to work hard for Jungkook to redeem himself to my readers.
“She wants to get back together.” Jungkook swallowed dryly, eyes wavering between yours as if to gauge your reaction.
“…Oh.”
You shook your head.
“I mean, wow! That’s… That’s great!” You smiled, something tearing apart inside you as the words left your lips.
“Y/N–”
“Seriously! This means it worked, right? This is exactly what you wanted to happen.” You enthused, turning your head so that he couldn’t see the way your eyes had welled up.
Jungkook’s heart was pounding in his ears, fighting the urge to wrap his arms around you.
“Yeah… yeah, no, you’re right. We did it.” He replied monotonously.
GOD THIS PART IS SO UNBELIEVABLY FRUSTRATING! JUST ADMIT YOU LOVE EACH OTHER YOU MORONS! This entire situation is so convoluted because there's so much information missing and not being expressed, I seriously want to ring my own neck rereading this bit.
“Are you mad?” He called out cautiously, a heavy feeling falling onto his chest.
“Why would I be mad?” You quipped back sharply, causing Jungkook to flinch. He shifted in his seat uncomfortably.
“I just thought… I mean we’ve been fooling around a lot lately, so I didn’t know if—”
“If what? I had feelings for you?” You scoffed. “Please, as if I’d ever fall for you.”
And there it was— everything Jungkook already knew but had been so afraid to hear. Of course, you didn’t feel for him what he felt for you. How could he have expected anything different?
IDIOTS!!! THEY'RE BOTH IDIOTS!!! I don't know how y'all put up with this for so long. Forgive me.
CHAPTER NINE – THE BREAK
Okay I actually love this chapter. And for many reasons. Let me break down the three scenes for you guys.
Scene one: Kiri confrontation
Kiri is definitely an opposing antagonist. She is constantly working against Y/N because of their interests directly conflicting. BUT. I would argue that the biggest antagonist to this story is the inner ones – Y/N and Jungkook's lack of ability to admit their feelings constantly holding them both back from their happy ending. That being said, a confrontation scene between Y/N and Kiri was MUCH needed. While I suppose I can understand why Kiri doesn't like Y/N, that doesn't change the fact that she has been disrespectful and catty. So miss Y/N had to put Miss Kiri in her place (•̀ᴗ•́)
Scene two: Yara and Tae at the library
Fanservice. That is all. LMFAOOO y'all reallllyyy wanted it to happen and who am I to deny my people what they want. It was really fun getting to explore my side characters and develop them through interactions outside the two main characters. IRL Yara also mentioned giving bitchin’ Yara and Tae their own chapter as a joke and I was like LOL BET. I fully was going to but then I got the idea for the next scene and was like ahh ok maybe not the whole chapter.
Scene three: Meeting with Erik
So. This was a SUPER last minute decision. Like, it wasn’t until I was writing this chapter that I planned on Erik making an appearance. I saw a tweet with someone saying their bitchin theories and they mentioned Erik appearing out of nowhere and I was like,,, HOLD ON!!!! That could be kind of spicy ≖‿≖
I knew for a fact JK was NOT going to be forgiven in this chapter; I needed a way to lay the situation out between the two dorks without trying to seem like I was trying to sway my audience in a way that didn't make sense to the story. Y/N was rightfully angry. But she wasn't only angry about the timing of the sex. She was angry that Jungkook went back to Kiri at all and there was no way she was going to admit that. So who better to lay it all out than calculated, unbiased third party Erik. He deserved some character development after all.
I also liked the idea that Y/N had, in theory, “romantic options.” Losing Jungkook didn’t mean the end of her life. Having my female lead stand on her own was very important to me.
CHAPTER TEN – THE END
RIGHT OF THE BAT I needed Jungkook to suffer. So that whole scene where he tries to interact with his old group only for his presence to make everything awkward MMMM yes, sweet revenge on my part.
You were surprised. His hair was no longer shaggy and long like you remembered it. Instead, it had been freshly cut, looking healthy and neatly styled for the first time since you met Jungkook.
THE WAY SO MANY PEOPLE COMMENTED ON THIS LINE “but Y/N liked it long?!?”  IS SO FUNNNYyyyy. So let me clarify a thing. Jungkook had always wanted to cut his hair right. The only reason he didn’t was because Y/N told him not to. With Y/N no longer in the picture to convince him out of it, he cut his hair. That’s really all there is to it skfjsjf.
You know, I had written this part around the time I had just finished up the third ch believe it or not. And it was COMPLETELY different. I had it planned that Yara and Y/N ignored him throughout class and Yara had gone back after the bell rang to go verbally assault JK. And as the two hashed it out, only then was that when Jungkook would realize that he liked Y/N after Yara literally spelled it out for him.
“You like her, dumbass!” Was what I had written Yara saying. I really had written him in denial for ten chapters, I was a whole sociopath (╥﹏╥). But ultimately, I decided that Jungkook came to that conclusion on his own and the decision to apologize to Y/N would have been made over winter break.
“You said Kiri came over asking for you back, yet you still came over and slept with me the next day. Even though the two of you had sex the night before. Do you understand how that makes me feel?”
“I’m—”
“Like garbage!" You emphasized, the white paint of the door somehow irritating you further. "I felt like I was something you threw away and picked back up whenever you felt like getting your dick wet.”
Your chest was rising and falling rapidly, and you tried your hardest to not let your emotions get the best of you.
“Not to mention to everyone else, it looks like you cheated on me. Which makes me look like a fucking idiot." You scoffed.
Jungkook said nothing in reply, which somehow made it easier to say all you should have said that day in your room.
“It just sucks to realize that someone you once cared about sees you as nothing more than a toy. It fucking sucks.”
Man :( writing this hurt my heart. I really, really, love bitchin!y/n and writing her hurting freaking stinks. But she had to speak her mind. She deserves the chance to get everything off her chest with the way Jungkook hurt her.
Your heart and mind were in constant paradox, torn between wanting him back and wanting him to know just how much he had hurt you. Your mind ultimately won the battle, of course, but as Jungkook stood just a few inches of drywood apart pouring his heart out, it was hard to say which major organ was responsible for your next words.
The creak of the door being pushed open sent Jungkook's eyes wide, revealing your hesitant form. You had your arms crossed over your chest as if to guard the contents inside of it.
You looked like an angel underneath the bathroom's blue fluorescent lights, beautiful and lovely, a stark contrast from your next crushing sentence.
“I slept with Erik.”
Hehe. Ofc my girl Y/N had to have a rebound!!! She knows that life goes on. However, as I wrote in, she definitely regretted it. It was kind of the same situation that Jungkook was in where he pursued something just because it was familiar and a distraction and not because he really wanted it. Both Y/N and Jungkook are flawed characters but that’s okay! If anything, Y/N’s mistake of sleeping with Erik is what allows her to forgive Jungkook. Knowing first hand how complicated their entire relationship really was.
“I don’t need you… but I don’t think I want a life without you.” You finished shyly.
Your eyes were locked with his when suddenly a small noise escaped him, eyes pulling away from yours as his head moved to attempt to hide the way his eyes had grown wet.
I got this line from one of my best friends after her ex broke up with her. It made me physically sad and really sympathize with her so I quickly wrote it down into my notes app to save for later LMAOOOO. Knowing that you are your own person and life will inevitably go on after losing someone, but that your heart still wants and is pleading for the one person you can’t have. SO SAD. I’m happy I got to use this line in one of my fics.
The note Jungkook wrote Y/N,,, imagine him not being able to sleep one night over winter break so he just writes down everything he should have told Y/N while he still had the chance…. I’ll for real cry dude, he’s so cute. Also, the line about him buying you fluffy Halloween socks for Christmas went over people’s heads I think but HECK I THOUGHT THAT WAS SO FUNNY AND SWEET (because Y/N bought Christmas socks when it was Halloween teehee).
"Are you two dorks done crying?" Yara’s voice rang out suddenly, causing both of you to jump apart.
"Yara, you creep! Privacy, dude! Ever try knocking?" You sniffed, wiping at your face hurriedly.
"What? Like you were peeing with Jungkook in the bathroom? Please." She waved you off, walking back into the living room to give you two some privacy. She did say Jungkook had 15 minutes before she’d have to come back in after all. "Anyway, Tae will be over in 10 minutes for the Saved By The Bell marathon that’s on so you guys are more than welcomed to join." She called out from her newly seated position on the couch.
I included this scene with Yara because things were getting too serious for my liking ngl. Plus the idea that the four of them would all come together at the end for a much needed reunion made my happy bitchin heart soar.
Jungkook let out a laugh, his palm finding your cheek, eyes locked on your lips. You were preening for his kiss, mouth parting slightly as you anticipated it.
“Partners?”
The question took you by surprise, eyes widening at your not so pretend lover.
Idiot.
“Partners.” You smiled softly, eyes shiny and brimming with tears as he kissed you for what must have been the millionth time, but still somehow felt like the first.
UGH I LOVE THEM I REALLY DO. I was so happy with how this final scene came out :( They’re partners, they really are I miss these boneheads.
AND NOW, I PRESENT THE CANON FUTURE OF THE BITCHIN UNIVERSE...
10 YEARS LATER
Let’s be honest, Jungkook popped the question the day of graduation, he can’t imagine a life in which you wouldn’t be beside him
You said yes (shocker)
Cue Jungkook being the most wonderful partner and respecting your wish to finish your residency program before having the wedding
You absolutely kick ass at being a neonatal surgeon
Also, Jungkook started a film company! It’s small but he loves what he does and works with colleges and helps out the film majors with resources and equipment <3
SO IT'S THE DAY OF YOUR WEDDING RIGHT
Yara and your sisters are helping you get ready, with your best friend as the ever so reassuring maid of honor
And by that I mean you’re as calm as a cucumber and Yara is one wrong move away from having a stroke
“Y/N… Don’t freak out....The catering company put in two orders of shrimp instead of chicken and steak.”
“Yara, it’s okay.”
“NO ITS NOT???? THIS IS YOUR WEDDING DAY AND YOU’RE GETTING CRUSTACEANS.”
Y/N making Yara take a seat and practice some breathing exercises so she doesn’t upset the baby
Oh yeah, Yara is 10 weeks pregnant
Taehyung is the dad lol
Yara and Taehyung have been together ever since that day at the library hehe <3
They moved in together and adopted a cat and everything (sweet boy Tae wanted a dog but Yara’s afraid of dogs and Tae would do anything for that woman so Yeontan the cat it is)
Yara refuses to put a label on their relationship even after all this time, and Tae doesn’t ask for one. They’re happy and dedicated to each other and don’t feel the need to put pressure on something that’s already so perfect
Yara is actually violently in love with Tae but still scoffs when Y/N tries to bring it up
“Oh my god, you’re so in love with him”
“Huh??? you must be sick or something. Get well soon, damn :/”
Yara likes to come up with different labels for Taehyung every time she has to introduce him. Among her favorites are roommate, rent sharer, baby daddy and penis lender
Speaking of Taehyung, he’d have a hand on Jungkook’s shoulder as he tries to calm down the panicking groom to be
“JK, breathe.”
“What if she doesn’t show up? What if she doesn’t want to marry me? What if I pressured her into this and— and I’ve freaked her out and now she hates me?”
“Dude, you guys have been engaged for eight years. She’s had her opportunity to run. She’ll show up.”
Taehyung scruffing up the younger man’s hair reassuringly, which only flusters him more because DAMMIT he wants to look perfect for you and now his hair is messed up >:(
(You like him no matter what his hair looks like though)
Jungkook literally swallowing down a sob as you walk down the aisle and he lays his eyes on you for the first time
You having a dumb smile on your face the entire walk over because your husband to be is crying and you haven’t even exchanged vows yet
The entire audience going all sobby when you finally do exchange vows because they’re so beautiful and real
The ten years together has not been easy— from financial struggles as you tried to support yourself through med school, to personal conflicts when Jungkook wanted to start a family already
But you guys figured it out
You always do
He’s your person. And you are his.
Y/N’s sisters Rosa and Lia are a WRECK— even your dad is tearing up
Your family loves Jungkook and have been counting down the days until you guys married, let’s be honest
“You may now kiss the bride.”
Jungkook punching the air with a “FINALLY!” before kissing the hell out of you
The cutting of the cake inevitably turning into a food fight
The shrimp entrees turning out to be pretty damn good
Yara catching the bouquet and wagging her brows at Taehyung suggestively
Jungkook pulling you aside to take photos of you outside the venue because you look so so pretty and he loves the way you smile when he’s the one behind the camera
The party is in full session, your siblings tearing up the dance floor like the extroverts they are
You and Jungkook are sat at the head of the room, hands intertwined underneath the table as you watch a tired and painfully sober Yara swing her bare feet onto Taehyung’s lap, requesting a foot rub
Watching your pregnant best friend and her lover together, you turned towards your own, smile impossibly wide
“What?”
“Let’s have a baby.” You’d grin, so stupid happy
Jungkook’s eyes going round and immediately jumping up from his seat because god that’s all he’s ever wanted
Being tugged out the room by a giddy Jungkook, one of your heels flinging off somewhere behind you.
“What’s happening? Where are we going?!”
The two of you find yourself in a storage room somewhere on the hotel floor
“Jeon Jungkook, what the hell—“
His mouth find yourself, kissing you in a way that couldn’t at the altar
You kissed him back without questions, arms wrapping around the man you now called your husband
“I love you.” He’d sigh into your neck, his hot breath causing you to shiver
“I love you too.”
“Let’s make a baby.”
“Yeah let’s— wait, right here? Right now?!”
Jungkook merely nodding as his mouth found the exposed skin of your chest
“Meathead, we can’t just ditch our wedding to have sex!”
“Why not? We did our marital duties. Now it’s our guests' job to get embarrassingly drunk and make a fool of themselves on the dance floor. No one will even miss us.”
“Isn’t baby making what our honeymoon is for?”
“Screw that. I’ve done my waiting. Let’s start our family, nerd.”
Jungkook kissing your protests silent before you inevitably give in and let him take you right there and then, your wedding dress hung around your hips
Husband and wife coming together with shaky breaths and hushed moans as they promise the rest of their lives to each other, making every argument, struggle or moment of uncertainty leading up to now totally worth it
Walk of shame back into the party with nervous hair fixing from you and a proud grin from Jungkook
Yara figuring out exactly why you two had sneaked off to, flashing the newly weds a knowing smirk
The night of your wedding, Jungkook surprises you with a present
You unwrap it in confusion, only to see that it’s a glass frame and inside of it is the wrinkled and worn out lined paper the two of you had scribbled on many many years ago
Jungkook hangs up the contract right above your bed as per your request, smiling as he does and jumping on him the moment he puts down the hammer bc dammit it you’re too heckin excited to make love with your sentimental loser of a husband
And yes, by the next month, you are pregnant and incredibly happy
And of course, your daughter and Yara’s son grow up to be best friends, not a family holiday passing by where they aren’t told the story of the totally bitchin’ way both set of their parents got together

* justice smith, demi man + he/they | you know gabriel de leon, right? they’re twenty three, and they’ve lived in irving for, like, six years? well, their spotify wrapped says they listened to 1984 (infinite jest) by the used like, a million times this year, which makes sense ‘cause they’ve got that whole waking up in a body as heavy as the dead, emotions always on the verge of spilling over - you laugh before the punch lands, the belief that every encounter you have will be the last thing going on. i just checked and their birthday is october 31st, so they’re a scorpio, which is unsurprising, all things considered. ( james, 21, est, they/them )
hi im just reposting gabe’s intro bc its been a very long time n im starting a little fresh hehe. yes i do regret the text color bt im not going back.

biography.
it’s only rly ever been gabe n his mom n the little new jersey suburbs that r always the same no matter where they go. they dn’t speak abt fathers or brothers or spain or anywhere other than the now, and how its constantly changing bt oddly the same.
his mom’s name is sonia n we love her. she worked a lot as a single mom n p much hs done everything on her own ever since leaving spain.
they dn’t talk abt spain bt we cn talk abt spain n hw sonia hd grown up partially there n partially in the states n hw she’d originally planned to live there forever bt the man she’d fallen in love with ws involved in some. high class dangerous shit n it ws safer fr them to part even if tht involved leaving everything she knew n loved <3
bt its like. ok. bc she hd gabe <3 n they dnt talk abt it so it practically nvr happened. n she tries her best as a mom n usually tht is enough.
they moved around a lot just bc sonia is a very. flighty person. anxious bt nvr seems tht way is just always. tense. gabe didnt think she ws capable of relaxing fr. a rly long time.
she wld commute 2 nyc every morning n after school gabe wld climb onto the train n by the time he got 2 her place of work she’d be just getting off n they’d get a slice of pizza n sometimes they’d go somewhere like central park or coney island (just fr the novelty) bt most of the time they just got back on the train home w/ gabe either doing homework or napping on her shoulder.
when gabe got a little older he’d sometimes skip school n take the train after sonia had already gone so he cld spend the day in nyc. he liked learning bt didnt rly like school. he nvr properly fit in bc of the amt of times they’d move so it felt like nowhere ws. right fr him.
got rly involved in. the punk scene as a young unsupervised teenager n tht led 2 a lot of like. shitty stick n pokes bt also a love of. very loud angry music n a sense of justice tht he held tightly in his fists. got mouthy towards bullies whether at school or in the scenes he involved himself in n started getting into a lot of fights bc of it.
during this, sonia ended up dating n marrying gabe’s stepdad who he calls craig sometimes bt i dnt think thats his name i wont lie to u guys. its partially a joke n partially purposeful disrespect bc gabriel does not trust a single man bt like. man. ‘craig’ is just an accountant. he’s fine he’s a good dude. they once bonded over like. the mets.
violence tw // anyways. when gabriel ws 16 he got into a super super bad fight tht ended rly. terribly n like listen. nobody died bt it ws just. it got blown up very out of proportion n gabe might’ve gotten expelled even tho he wsnt even the one who started it bt thts okay. ‘craig’, or paul, suggested tht maybe. a change of scenery wld b good fr gabe n b4 they knew it they were. moving to paul-robert’s hometown of irving, north carolina. violence end of tw //
he wld’ve complained more bt. fr sonia’s sake gabe kept it 2 himself. it made her happy 2 see them all get along anyways n like. idk he cld put forth tht little effort <3
bt honestly like. he didnt rly get into too many fights once they moved down here n even tho sometimes he ws like. ommgg. i hate this town .. its so washed up .. he still made friends n like. the only thing tht changed ws tht it ws a lil harder fr him 2 acquire illegal substances.
anyways. currently he hs a tattoo apprenticeship n is a professional piercer n like. he plays guitar n writes songs bt thts more of a hobby rn than anything else. mostly focused on paying his rent at port apartments bc as much as he. loves his mom he does not want 2 live with her forever <3 n thts okay!
personality & facts.
overall xtremely passionate person like god. feels emotions so intensely. every time he opens his mouth n talks abt an interest of theirs its just very like. u listen n ur like oh. gained 2 inspiration. thanks.
clings onto his friends p tightly bc he like. nvr rly stayed in one place fr super super long in new jersey so he nvr made very long term friends n now hes like. very clingy HLKDSHLKFSHLKDG also hates to b alone. subtle desperation behind interactions with ppl he rly wld like to be friends with.
like dnt get me wrong hes gotten into. sm fights bt thts mostly bc he cannot keep his mouth shut n he also cnt stand douchebags he like. always wants to tear them down prob bc he ws a victim of bullying. n u know what. we support him. otherwise he loves ppl bt esp if they hv similar interests 2 him.
like golden retriever who bites kind of. intensely loyal but at the same time is very skeptical. things tht good things do not last very long even though they’ve been doing already fr the last few years.
also bit of a nerd. they were nvr rly a big fan of school bt theres smth abt a good superhero comic tht draws their attention more than like. any english class evr. bt seven soldiers of victory? classic. big dc fan.
uh. very into like. hardcore music. hardcore rock. punk. if its loud n angry they r into it like so so much. hs sm tattoos is like. super covered in them its partially bc they work at a tattoo shop n partially bc they do not know hw to manage their money well.
ooohh u know what theyre. kinda moody i wont lie to u. very defensive like they dnt evr wna talk abt their past. has experienced Things n they do not wish to discuss them. will usually like. deflect frm conversations he doesnt wna hv.
in tune with nature. loves fkn taking walks. hangs out in the woods by abernathy creek n lilac ridge bc nobody rly goes there n its just. nice
tries not 2 take anything super seriously 2 the point where when he does take smth seriously its a little scary bc theyre super intense abt it. forcibly optimistic even tho on the inside he feels like a total pessimist. lots of. deep down insecurities tht he projects by attaching himself p firmly onto others. >.>
so so so energetic. can never stay still. always hs to be moving around. restless like tht. probably got it frm his mom. overly protective over the ppl he loves. probably got it frm his mom as well.
goes onto Tangents bt also divert frm those tangents n is generally all over the place.
always cold n always looks tired n like he hsnt slept in a thousand years n u know what. sometimes he just does not sleep.
oooohh theyre a vegan. totally into animal rights. devious little demi man beyond that .. loves horror n the paranormal n believes in like. every cryptic. will debate u on it.
erm not. the kindest 2 themself theyre a bit self destructive. impulsive. drives very fast n parties super hard. said i will hv my effy stonem moment. u dont hv to gabe.
bt ya! luvs oranges n reds n is maybe a short king. hs an eyebrow piercing n like. a lip ring i wont fk around here he IS living his best emo life in 2021. a little outdated on the trends bt thats okay. probably will tell u hes frm new jersey. its a personality trait. smokes the shittiest cigarettes ever.
wanted plots.
just ghosting along ,, dnt even exist 2 me ,, ;; god. firstly just the vast amt of ppl tht gabe hs like. spoken to romantically n then dropped suddenly. n then maybe like. one tht actually Hurt bt they cnt avoid each other bt theyre actively pretending each other doesnt exist n its. hurtful bc it ws like. actually smth nice bt <3 ykno FKLFSDHG
hey hey heyy c’maahn i’m just a little guy ;; n this is the vast amt of ppl tht gabe hs probably. pissed off n hs either fought or been on the verge of fighting just. unable 2 resist a good bicker-turned-duel.
just blistering in the sun ;; they cld b close friends bt also they cld also not b bt just ppl who. indulge in bad impulsive decisions with gabe. general bad influences on each other’s health n just. no good! party hard bt at what cost.
n also ;; like ... rly solid good friendships ... flings n maybe an exe or two tht either ended on good terms or just. horrendous, ppl they’ve distanced frm, ppl also frm up north, piercing customers, bt not tattoo customers bc im p sure they’d get fired if they were just tattoo’ing ppl willy nilly, etc.

Mizar the Mediocre, Chapter 2
Alcor gets a summons from a strange Mizar. Maybe there's still something to recognise, here.
See most updated version on Archive of Our Own.
______________________________________________________________
There were no rolling green fields to speak of at this golf course. A grey, squat building lounged across the side of a parking lot here. It had a flickering open light, a man smoking by the entrance, and a strangely-painted sign that might’ve indicated it was the place to go for mini golfing if the background and text hadn’t been neon green and neon yellow, respectively.
“We’re here,” Ashley said, and then: “Or maybe not. It looks like it closed ten years ago.”
“Closed? Nah, the open sign’s on!” Mart hopped out of the car. “Race you to the doors, sweetie!”
“What? Dad, I’m not-” She watched him take off running for the building. “Gonna race you…? Okay, cool. Good talk.”
Alcor snorted. She shot him a slight grin.
 “My dad’s ridiculous, seriously.”
“Aww, he’s trying.” He watched Mart stumble up to the smoking man, pant a few times, then try and offer a high five. The man walked away fast. “We’d better go get him.”
“Yeah, before he- oh, stars, he’s dancing now. Come on, demon guy.”
A cloud of scratch cards billowed out as Alcor opened the car door. He took a moment to check his face in the mirror before following Ashley - brown eyes? Check. Rounded ears? Yep. Was he missing anything else… Oh, wings! Better stash those away for now.
 “Alcor, you coming?”
“Yeah!” He quickly caught up with Ashley as she reached her dad. “Hey, uh, maybe you guys shouldn’t be calling me Alcor, um, in the course. That’s a demon name, might freak people out.”
“I mean, it’s not exclusively a demon name,” Mart said. “I knew a dude called Alcor once. Cool guy. Said his parents were Twin Souls fans - wait, were you in that weird movie about-”
“No!” He snapped. “Okay, we’re doing a fake name-”
 “Martin!”
 “That’s your name.”
“Yeah buddy, we can be name twins!”
“How about Dee?” Ashley gave him a sly grin. “Last name Mon.”
 “Heh, very funny, but-”
“Sam Onion! No, no, how about… I. P. Freely! Hehe, no, seriously…” Mart scratched his goatee as he stared at Alcor’s suit. Then he snapped his fingers and said: “I got it, I got it!      Mr Monopoly!”
“No. I’m not going in there as Mr Monopoly.”
 “Aww.”
“I’ll just stick with Tyrone, okay?” Alcor hesitated. “Or… Dipper. Dipper Pines.”
Ashley raised an eyebrow. “Pines? That sounds kinda familiar-”
“Dipper Pines it is!” Mart reached over and gave him a clap on the back. “Nice to meetcha, my absolutely totally human friend! Now, would you perchance care to ye olde join us in the game of thy most miniature of golfs, good sir?”
“I can ditch the suit if you’re gonna talk like that.”
“Aww, Al- I mean Dipper!” He chuckled. “Caught myself there. Anyway, team, let’s play some mini golf!”
With that, he threw an arm around Dipper and led him in through the front door, and… Dipper couldn’t help but smile at that. The comfort this Mizar already had hanging out with him, the warmth in his voice calling him Dipper… It was nice. Really, really nice.
“Hey, this is a party! What you think of the tunes, Dipper?”
“Oh, my stars, Dad. Don’t dance. Don’t-      Dipper!”
“Huh?” Dipper blinked, and suddenly registered the raging techno music inside the building. “Oh, this is-”
“This is what the kids listen to, right!” Mart bumped Ashley with his hip. “Come on, Ash, let’s raise the roof!”
“Ohhhh, my stars, I’m not associated with you.” She let out a startled giggle as she hid her face. “Dipper, help. Make him stop.”
“Can’t stop, never gonna- ow, my shoulder.” Mart rubbed it. “Right, not supposed to raise you over my head… what were we doing again? Oh, yeah, mini golf! Where do we start putting?”
 “Probably over there.”
Alcor pointed at a desk just off to the side from the entrance. It was a little hard to see but for the neon lights striped across the front. A few sections were flickering, making the whole thing an annoying distraction; it was hard to tear your eyes away and see the lady behind the darkened counter, or the unlit pricing sign above her head. Even Dipper had to squint as they walked over.
“Looks like… seven dollars a head.”
Mart jumped. “Seven dollars? That’s… uh… three and seven…”
“Twenty-one dollars for all of us.”
 “Twenty-one dollars!”
“Uh, you okay paying that?” Dipper reached into his own pocket. “I can probably-”
“No! No no no, I got it! Twenty-one dollars is, uh, nothing to me, seriously!” He popped his dressing gown’s collar and strode on over to the desk. “Let me do the talking. Hi! Hello? Ma’am?”
“Huh?” The lady looked up. “Oh, a customer! Hello, sir, would you like, uh, a day pass?”
“Yes! I’ll have three, thank you!”
 “Okay, that’ll be twenty-one dollars.”
“Wow, that’s a real good price! A steal!” With a grin, Mart reached into his wallet and slid a couple bills across the counter. “I can do you one better, though. How about… three dollars?”
The woman just stared at him for a second. Somehow, the pumping music in the background made the silence even more awkward.
“Um… sir, are you trying to haggle with me?”
 “Mmmmaybe?”
Uh, well, I’m just here to work the register. So… that’ll be twenty-one dollars?”
Ashley groaned. “Dad, just pay the money.”
“Okay, okay! You drive a hard bargain, ma’am. You’re a strong, independent - I respect you! I respect you so much, I got the money… rrrriiiight…”
Dipper could feel a hand pushing its way into his back pocket. With an eyeroll, he materialised a wallet.
“...ooooooverrrrr- here!” Mart brandished it with a triumphant grin, and popped it open. “There’s - only twenty-one dollars in here?” He looked over to Dipper with an expression of genuine concern, and put a hand on his shoulder. “Dipper… you doing okay, buddy?”
“No, I’m fine, Mart. I’m-” He shot a look at the cashier. “I don’t need money, okay? It’s on me-”
 “No, no, I’ll get this-”
 “Mart-”
“I insist! I’ll put it on… this card - here you go, ma’am. It’s fine.” He gave Dipper a one-armed hug as he handed his wallet back. “You don’t need to thank me.”
Dipper watched the cashier hesitate for a long moment before swiping Mart’s card. It went through, and she slid it across the counter.
“Uh, alright, then… you’re all good, I guess.” She backed away. “I’ll get your clubs.”
While she disappeared into a store room, Mart turned back to Dipper. “You know, if you ever need a place to stay-”
“Dad, he was trying to tell you. He’s a demon.” Ashley pressed her face into the counter. “You didn’t have to go and make a scene, he probably could have just paid.”
 “Oh.”
“It’s okay,” Alcor tried for a smile. “It’s, uh, very nice of you to offer, but I have my own place.”
“Really? Where?” Mart’s grin came snaking back. “Does it have a couch someone could theoretically sleep on?”
“Um, sorry Mart, it’s just a field in the Mindscape. It’s got a bunch of sheep in it, that’s kinda it-”
 “SHEEP!”
Mart yelled that loud enough to startle the cashier as she came within earshot again. Alcor cocked his head.
“Do you… not like sheep or something?”
“No! I mean, I like ‘em, I wish ‘em well, but they scare me a little, I’ll be honest!” He rubbed his shoulder. “Maybe it was just the ones at that petting zoo I worked at, but they’re mean little fluffballs, I tell you! With sharp hooves, and, well, they’re weighty under all that wool, and- oh, you’re back! Hi, ma’am!”
“Um,” the cashier blinked several times. “I have… your clubs?”
“Ooh! Are you ready, team?” Mart clapped his hands together. “We’re going golfing!”

Tumblr media
Genre: fluff and then angst hehe, prince!Jaemin, maid!reader
Word count: 7.2k (yah YEET yah)
Excerpt: “Everything is going to get better soon, I promise.” You whispered.
“You keep saying that, Y/n, but how do you know? It’s been so long, it’s hopeless at this point!” She cried, pulling herself away from your embrace.
“I can’t explain why, I just feel that something good is coming.”
“I just hope you’re right.” She said, skepticism clear on her face.
“I promise, ok?” You replied, holding your pinky out to her.
“You better not break your promise.” She grumbled, linking her finger with yours.
“You know I never would.”
Masterlist
A/N: I got the idea for this while watching The Princess Diaries 2 (ye idk either) and it wasn’t supposed to be angst but uhhhh surprise! Also sorry for doing mark and jeno a lil dirty LOL
The castle had never been so quiet before. It was unclear what had caused you to wake up so early, but you had little room to complain. The world seemed so at peace at that moment; the sun had barely begun to rise while the birds woke from their nights sleep, preparing to sing their melancholy tunes. Swinging your legs out of bed, your feet hit the cold ground, sending a small jolt up your spine. Not bothering to put on slippers you shuffled out of the bedroom, heading through the kitchen to grab an apple, before reaching the gardens. The damp grass tickled your bare feet as you moved towards the large cherry tree nestled in the middle of the expansive land. You sat down, apple still in hand, and closed your eyes, drawing in a deep breath. For a moment you could feel everything; every little insect, every plant, every breath of air. It felt as though you were one with the world.
Reopening your eyes, you bit into the apple, its sweetness flooding your tastebuds. In all your years at the castle you had never felt so at peace. You watched the sunrise as you finished your apple, a soft smile resting on your lips. Throwing the core into the flower beds, you stood from your spot beneath the tree and stretched before heading back indoors. A crash from the kitchen broke your peace, signalling the beginning of your day. The small clock in the hallway told you that you had fifteen minutes to get cleaned up before waking the princess. Picking up your pace, you jogged back to your room to prepare for the day ahead of you.
Some might expect you to dislike your job as the princesses handmaiden. People often expected someone with a royal title to be snooty and rude, however, Princess Jioo was anything but. In fact, you had grown extremely close with the princess. Knowing the princess since you were thirteen, the two of you had quickly grown to be the closest of friends. There was no one else on the royal staff that the princess could turn to, and the same went for you as well. Luckily, the king and queen thought it good for Jioo to befriend someone who was of a lower title, and encouraged your friendship to bloom.
A sliver of light peeked through the heavy curtains, falling across the princesses bed. Quietly, you pushed the door open and moved towards the curtains. Drawing in a deep breath, you threw open the curtains, permitting the sun to glare directly upon the sleeping princesses figure.
“It’s time to wake up, your highness.” You sang, voice light and airy.
“Y/n, I’m going to kill you.” Jioo’s voice came out muffled under the sheet she had pulled over her head in a feeble attempt at blocking out the sun’s rays.
“Oh, but your highness! What would you ever do without me?”
“Get a good nights sleep.” She grumbled, finally sitting up while rubbing her eyes.
“I would have let you sleep in more but Prince Jeno is set to be here in less than an hour.”
“Didn’t Prince Mark leave, like, less than a week ago?” Jioo groaned, falling back into her pillow.
“More like a week and a half ago, but you know your parents are just trying to find who’s best for you. I mean, you didn’t have to send Prince Mark away so soon, what was so bad about him anyways?”
A slight pause filled the room before you both broke out into a fit of laughter at your feigned ignorance. While Prince Mark was extremely handsome and kind, he proved to be a bit of an idiot. On the first day alone, the prince had broken one of the dining room chairs, knocked over a platter of cakes, and nearly broke his neck falling down the main staircase. While some might have found it endearing, Jioo and you had both found his clumsiness a bit too much. His lack of knowledge about the kingdom did little to help his case.
Recovering from your laughter, Jioo got out of bed and you began to help her dress for Prince Jeno’s arrival. Ever since Jioo had turned eighteen, every month meant a new prince staying in the castle. While a bit strange, it was customary in the kingdom for any suitor to live in the castle for at least four weeks. If the princess liked the prince, then he was invited to stay longer and, hopefully, it would lead to marriage. So far, Jioo had sent out every prince as soon as the four weeks were up. Each had their own charms, but also faults that proved unfitting for Jioo. For the most part, the four weeks were spent with the two of you gossiping about the suitors and laughing over how ridiculous they were.
“I’ve heard Prince Jeno is a total bore.” Jioo sighed, wincing while you combed the knots from her hair.
“At least try to give him a chance, we don’t want a repeat of Prince Yukhei.” Prince Yukhei was the first and only prince to be sent home on the first day. Jioo’s premonitions of the poor boy had led her to snubbing him the whole day. So upset by this treatment, the prince had requested to leave the castle at once. The king and queen had not been particularly pleased with Jioo’s actions. They forced her to take two straight weeks of etiquette classes, and, subsequently, you had to put up with two weeks of her complaints. Needless to say, neither of you wanted to go through such torment ever again.
“I suppose you’re right. I just wish this torture would end already,” Jioo turned to face you, holding your hands in hers. “You’re so lucky, Y/n, you can marry whomever you want whenever you want with no outside pressure.”
This wasn’t the first time the two of you had such a conversation. In fact, the subject came up nearly every time a new suitor was set to arrive. There was little you could say in response considering all she said was true. Most of the time you sat in silence, allowing Jioo to vent her grievances to you. You had no reason to complain, instead you were glad that she felt comfortable enough with you to talk about her inner thoughts. And it wasn’t like she didn’t help you in return, nearly every night the two of you sat on her floor, sharing stories and venting to each other while drinking tea and eating small sandwiches. It was a ritual that started when you were young and you had no intention to end.
“I know it must be so hard for you, Jioo. But I promise that, one day soon, you will find someone who sweeps you off your feet.” You reassured her, squeezing her hands lightly before pulling her up. “Now go eat breakfast, you have fifteen minutes before he arrives!”
Ushering her out of the room, you followed her down the stairs and lined up with the rest of the staff, waiting to greet the prince. After waiting ten minutes, a man came inside and announced that Prince Jeno had arrived. Jioo ran into the room less than a minute later and the king and queen fussed over her before the main doors swung open. Prince Jeno was definitely handsome, that much could be said for sure. You could see Jioo perk up and you made eye contact with her, sharing a sly smirk and a wink. Introductions were made and the staff was dismissed, allowing the prince and princess to bond.
The first day was always the most stressful for you; you were always on call just in case Jioo needed an escape or some advice. Some days you were called for every five minutes, others there was no need for you at all. That day fit under the category of the former. Shortly after lunch, you were summoned to Jioo’s room. With a heavy sigh, you put down your book and padded towards her room. With a light knock, you entered her room only to be faced with Jioo’s back as she lay face first on her bed.
“I’m guessing it hasn’t been going too well.” You pried, moving to sit beside her on the bed.
“The rumors were true,” she groaned rolling over onto her back, “He’s so incredibly boring. One can only go so long staring at a handsome face before the drivel coming from it drives you absolutely insane.”
“Oh, come on now,” you laughed, “he can’t possibly be that bad.”
“Oh, but he is. I don’t even know how I lasted so long talking with him, I can hardly remember what he said, I was so bored!” She exclaimed, waving her arms in the air.
“Well, you only have twenty-seven more days to go!” You teased, patting her head only to be met with a pillow to the face.
“I wonder if I can convince him to leave early.”
“You know that never works, they’re all always too tied to tradition to even dream of leaving early.”
“I’m never going to find a husband at this rate.” Jioo groaned, burying her head into your lap.
“I promise you will find true love,” you whispered, stroking her hair, “and I promise it will happen soon.
❃❃❃❃
You had to hand it to her, even when completely disinterested Jioo certainly knew how to charm a man. Her soft smile and engaging conversations won the hearts of nearly all the prince’s who had visited. Unfortunately, none had been able to win hers. After four agonizing weeks, Jeno finally left the castle with no invitation to return. You could see the disappointment on Prince Jeno’s face when he heard he was to leave, but he left in a cordial manner nonetheless. The relief was visible on Jioo’s face and she gestured for you to follow her back to her room. You knew what was coming, every failed suitor threw her into a deeper slump. Nearly two years had passed since the first prince had arrived, and the prospects were slimming. The king and queen had yet to say anything, but it was clear that, unless Jioo could find a husband in the next few months, she would have to marry at random. Having dreamed of marrying out of true love since the two of you were young, you knew an arranged marriage was Jioo’s worst nightmare.
The door closed with a loud thud behind you as you watched Jioo walk towards her balcony, leaning against the railing. Following close behind, you saw her shoulders begin to shake, small sobs escaping past her lips. Quietly, you moved beside her and wrapped your arms around her, allowing her to cry into your embrace. The two of you stood in silence until it was time for dinner. Taking a step back, you brought your hands up to softly wipe away any stray tears remaining on her face.
“Everything is going to get better soon, I promise.” You whispered.
❃❃❃❃
Jioo spent the following week with you, trying to enjoy as much of her free time before the next suitor arrived.  During the day the two of you would walk around the gardens, lounging by the lake and eating a packed lunch. At night you laid on the lawn, gazing at the stars and sharing your deepest thoughts and fears. As the day of the next prince’s arrival drew nearer, you could feel the anxiety radiating off of her. You tried your best to ease her fears and take her mind off of the suitor, but even you could do little to tame her mind. The dreaded day arrived and you slowly dragged your feet towards her door. Although you constantly tried to reassure her, you yourself feared that she may never be allowed to fall in love. With a soft knock, you pushed open her door only to find Jioo already sat right up in her bed, waiting expectantly for your arrival.
“Good morning.” She mumbled, picking at her sheets.
“Morning, Jioo. You should get ready, Prince Jaemin will be arriving—”
“I know, Y/n. I’ve been sat awake here for nearly five hours now.” She cut you off, moving out of the bed so that you could help her dress.
The two of you moved in silence. What was an hour felt more like twelve, the world seeming to slow around the two of you. You could feel the nerves radiating off of Jioo as you followed her downstairs. She went directly towards the main hall, ignoring your pesterings about eating breakfast.
“I’ll only throw it all back up, I’m far too nervous to do anything but stand here.” She shrugged, taking her place by her parents.
Another ten minutes passed by, the entrance filled with the lively chatter of the other staff members while you stood in silence beside the princess. Finally, Prince Jaemin’s arrival was announced and you felt Jioo stiffen beside you. You quickly gave her hand a tight squeeze before returning it to her side, folding your own in front of you. The doors opened to reveal the prince. He strode in, confidence radiating from his every pore and a dazzling smile on his face. You inhaled sharply, momentarily caught off guard by his enchanting appearance. The king and queen quickly greeted him while the staff rushed around to collect his things but you remained frozen in place next to Jioo. After speaking with the king and queen, the prince made his way over to where you and Jioo were standing.
“Hello, your highness. My name is Prince Jaemin, but please, just call me Jaemin. It’s a pleasure to meet you,” He grinned, bringing Jioo’s hand up to his lips. “And who might you be?” He tilted his head, turning to face you.
“O-oh! I’m Princess Jioo’s handmaiden, Y/n. It’s an honor to meet you, your highness.” You stuttered out quickly, giving a clumsy curtsy at the end.
“Please, you can call me Jaemin as well. All this formality stuff makes me uncomfortable,” He chuckled before turning back to Jioo and sticking out his arm. “I would love to see more of the castle, I’ve heard so many good things about the architecture. Would you mind showing me around?”
Jioo happily linked arms with him and the pair walked off, leaving you in shock. The other prince’s may have been attractive, but none of them could hold a candle to Prince Jaemin’s pure beauty. After a few minutes, your heartbeat slowed and you found the hall nearly empty. Lightly slapping your cheeks, you made your way towards the kitchens.
While your main job was to tend to the princess, you often found yourself messing around in the kitchen as well. Sometimes the cooks would help you learn new recipes, but most of the time they allowed you to experiment on your own. Once, and only once, Jioo had requested to help you. It had ended in near disaster and since then she was allowed no where near the place, not that she was complaining. It had taken nearly two hours to completely clean her body of flour. The bathroom became a mess as well since you couldn’t stop laughing at her state, causing her to splash you with water while pouting.
Rolling your sleeves up, you grabbed the pot of flour and a mixing bowl. The other day Jioo had been craving some blueberry muffins and you knew Jioo was sure to be hungry soon, especially since she had refused to eat at breakfast. You moved with purpose as you bustled around the kitchen, attempting to distract yourself from the memory of Prince Jaemin. No matter how hard you tried to forget, the image of his smiling face remained engraved in your mind. Never before had one of Jioo’s suitors struck you in such a manner, and you hadn’t even held a proper conversation with him. His presence was enough to capture and hold your attention.
You were mixing the batter, making sure it was void of lumps, when you felt a gentle tap on your shoulder. Startled, you dropped the mixing bowl onto the counter with a clatter, spinning around only to be met with the guilty face of Prince Jaemin.
“I didn’t mean to frighten you.” He mumbled, rubbing the back of his neck in embarrassment.
“What are you doing in here?” You interrogated before turning red, realising how rude you were being. “I-I’m sorry, your highness. I only meant, shouldn’t you be with the Princess?” For a moment your mind wandered; perhaps Jioo didn’t like Prince Jaemin and was sending him away. Maybe you would have the chance to capture his heart.
“Unfortunately the Princess was called away to attend a prior engagement. I was left on my own so I decided to explore a little. I was hoping I’d run into you as well.” He said with a wink.
“O-oh, well, here I am.” You stuttered out, inwardly cringing at how awkward you sounded.
“What are you making?” Prince Jaemin questioned, peering over your shoulder to glance inside the mixing bowl.
“Blueberry muffins! Jioo mentioned a craving for them a few days ago and now that I have free time I decided to whip some up!”
“May I help?” Prince Jaemin’s face lit up, already moving to grab the bowl.
“I’m practically finished at this point, but if it so pleases you, your highness, please do.”
“I thought I told you to call me Jaemin, Y/n. I’d like to be friends with you and all the forced formalities will only prove as a hindrance towards our friendship.”
If you hadn’t been shocked before, you certainly were now. Never had one of Jioo’s princes treated you in such a manner. Of course they were all cordial with you but, besides a few passing greetings, they never went out of their way to strike up conversation. Oblivious of your state, Prince Jaemin shifted around you towards the muffin tins laying on the counter. Happily, he began scooping spoonfuls of batter into the tins. He hummed to himself, the perfect picture of content. Still dumbfounded, you merely watched in awe as Prince Jaemin filled the tins. After a minute of silence, he turned to look at you expectantly.
“All done?” You asked, finally shaking yourself out of your shock.
“Yep! Where’s the oven?”
You led him over to the oven and he put the muffins inside, dusting his hands off once the doors closed. Unsure of what to do next, you stood off to the side, hands clutching your apron tightly. Prince Jaemin looked over to you, smile wavering once he saw your uncomfortable state.
“Am I making you nervous Y/n?” He smirked slightly, swaggering from his spot by the oven over to where you stood.
“I-I don’t mean to offend you, your highness. It’s just that, I’ve never been in the presence of one of Jioo’s suitors for so long before.” You stiffened as he stopped before you, a frown settling across his face.
“Well that’s awfully rude of them. Who could ignore someone so close to the princess, and so cute too?” A blush crept up your neck and onto your cheeks at his words, eyes flitting around the room in hopes of looking anywhere but his face.
“It’s fine your highness, really. I like being alone. And besides, most of them turn out to be hot headed pigs anyways.” You said with a shrug.
Jaemin’s lips once again formed a pout at your statement, leaning down so that you had no choice but to look him in the eyes.
“I want to be your friend, Y/n. I hardly meet anyone my age these days and it’s clear you’re a kind person since Jioo speaks so fondly of you. So please, call me Jaemin.”
Prince Jaemin’s words put your mind at ease and you felt your body relax. In the castle, it was very rare that you met new people, just as the prince had said. Maybe he had the right idea; making new friends instead of hiding in the background. Plus, he was kind and had a wonderful face to match.
“A-alright,” you stuttered out, “let’s be friends, Jaemin.”
A large smile spread across his face and he clapped his hands over your shoulders.
“Wonderful! Now, tell me more about the castle!”
❃❃❃❃
You and Jaemin had spent the rest of the afternoon sat on the counter, munching on muffins as you talked about anything and everything. After a while, the kitchen staff kicked you out and, upon Jioo’s return, Jaemin once again left you alone to your thoughts. Jaemin was, by far, the most suited prince to set foot into the castle. You had yet to find a single flaw in him, everything about him seemed incredibly perfect. In the hours you had spent together, you discovered that he often donated to charities and, when time permitted, traveled to various organizations to volunteer. His personality was incredibly bright and he always knew how to keep a conversation going. You really hoped that Jioo wouldn’t send him home early.
After dinner, you went straight to Jioo’s room for your nightly gossip session. You hardly had time to open her door before Jioo rushed forward to drag you towards her bed. All you could do was laugh at her excitement, flopping down onto the bed next to her.
“Soooo,” you drew out, “seems like someone had a good day.”
“Yes!” Jioo exclaimed, “The meeting went surprisingly well, the economy is really picking up, the farmers had an incredible harvest this year, and the villagers are feeling more comfortable with the royal council than ever!”
You nodded in understanding before a smirk grew on your face.
“And what about Prince Jaemin?” You teased, lightly nudging her side.
“Honestly, I didn’t see him that much between all the meetings today. But, I can already tell he’s very nice.”
“He’s really quite nice! I spoke with him for a while today. Even if things don’t work out, he certainly would make a wonderful friend!”
The two of you spent two hours simply talking with each other, relaxing in each other’s presence. Eventually, you were forced to leave as Jioo had to wake early the next morning, more meetings filling the majority of her week. Prince Jaemin had come at a slightly bad time. Jioo was going through a crucial part of her royal training, sitting in on royal meetings and touring the villages in preparation for when she took the throne. Still, the tradition of finding a suitor could not be broken and, thus, Prince Jaemin was invited to the castle. You didn’t mind, though, as Jaemin now had ample time to befriend you. After the first day, Jaemin somehow always found himself gravitating towards the kitchen when Jioo was out of the castle. You were always there, of course, as you had found a strange affinity with the room. The first few encounters had been completely on accident. By the end of the first week, however, it had become a sort of ritual to meet each other in the kitchen.
The Monday of the second week, Jaemin walked into the kitchen to find you wrestling with a stiff batter meant to emulate that of a cake. Your angered mutterings were interrupted by the low rumble of Jaemin’s laughter. A huff of frustration left your lips as you set down the mixing bowl, crossing your arms while turning to face the amused boy.
“What’s so funny?”
“Nothing,” he breathed through his laughter, “You just look really cute all worked up.”
‘“Well, how about instead of laughing at my struggling you try and help me instead?” You quipped, turning back towards the kitchen counter. A smile settled across your face as you heard Jaemin’s footsteps patter up behind you, his arms coming to rest on either side of your body.
“Now where would be the fun in that?” He teased, resting his head on your shoulder.
“So you think it’s more fun to watch me suffer rather than hang out with me and bake together? Who knew you were such a sadist.”
“Don’t be so mean,” he mumbled, nuzzling into the side of your neck, “I think I liked it better when you were too scared to even look me in the eye.”
“Now look who’s being mean.” You quipped back, nudging him in the stomach with your elbow, causing him to step back with a laugh.
“Fine, here, let’s start a new batter.”
“Ok, baking master, show me what you got.” You said, rolling your eyes at his behavior, completely used to his teasing manner by that point.
“Well, young grasshopper, first you grab the flo—” You cut him off with another jab to his abdomen. Your voices filled the empty room as the two of you danced around each other, successfully baking a cake. The two of you sat on the counter, eating the cake while the two of you chatted away until Jioo once again returned.
❃❃❃❃
A little more than a day later, you found yourself sat on the kitchen counter, another small and freshly baked cake sat between the two of you. Laughter rang through the room as you recounted the numerous stories you had lived through over the past few years.
“And then, after he had already broken the glass, he then completely flipped over his plate trying to clean up the mess!”
A guttural laugh rang through the room as you finished recounting the adventures of Prince Mark in the castle. Jaemin’s shoulders shook, his hands falling to hold his stomach as he bent over in a fit of laughter. Calming down, Jaemin took a deep breath before leaning back on his hands.
“God, I knew Mark was an idiot but I had no idea he was that bad. Have I told you about the time we went horseback riding? Or at least tried to.”
“Wait, hold up. Are you guys friends?” You sat up in shock.
“Yea, of course, our kingdoms are right next to each other. In fact, I’m friends with most of the princes you just mentioned.”
Your face immediately flushed as you brought your hands up to cover your cheeks.
“I can’t believe you just listened to me talk poorly about all of your friends, who are royalty might I add, and just sat there! Why didn’t you say anything?”
“Don’t worry, we all make fun of each other all the time. I love learning about all the dirt on them, more blackmail for the future.” He said with a wicked smirk. “And don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone where I got my information from. Consider my lips sealed.”
“Glad I can count on you to make sure I don’t get my head cut off.”
“Of course, I wouldn’t want to lose one of my only true friends.” He shifted closer to you, thigh touching thigh.
“Wow, I’m so honored that you consider me as a frie—” You were abruptly cut off by Jaemin’s finger coming up to swipe at your lip. Your eyes were focused on his as he stared at your mouth, bringing his finger back between the two of you.
“There was some frosting.” He explained, showing you his finger.
“O-oh, thanks.” You mumbled, face flushing once again.
“Yea no problem.” Jaemin grabbed a napkin, cleaning off the offending cream.
“So, ummm, what do you think about Jioo?” You quickly changed the subject, attempting to ease your beating heart.
“Oh.” Jaemin paused, suddenly uncomfortable with the situation. “I mean she’s absolutely lovely! I just don’t think I’ve been able to spend enough time to actually get to know her, you know? I’ve probably spent more than half of my time here with you, if I’m being honest.”
“Makes sense,” you mumbled, nodding in understanding. “But! I promise you’ll be able to hang out with her more soon and you’ll fall in love with her!” You perked up, clapping your hands together.
“Yea, sure,” he paused before continuing with a pout, “But then we won’t be able to hang out as much anymore.”
“Well you’re not here to befriend the staff, Jaemin. The whole reason you’re here is too woo the princess!”
“Oh, right. Doesn’t mean I can’t make friends along the way,” he shrugged, “Now come on, show me something outside of the castle.” Patting your leg, Jaemin hopped off of the counter, holding out his hand to help you down.
“I’ll take you out to the garden!” You exclaimed, grabbing Jaemin’s hand to drag him outside. He followed behind you, face flushing as he gripped your hand tightly in retaliation. Weaving through the foliage, you made your way to the large cherry tree you often found yourself sat under early in the morning. Sitting at the base of the trunk, you patted the spot next to you, signalling Jaemin to sit beside you. Once he sat down you instructed him to take a deep breath, relishing in the fresh air.
“This is probably my favorite spot in the whole castle. People rarely come out here so it’s always so serene and quiet. Whenever I sit here, I feel as though I’m one with the world. As if everything will be ok.” You said, a small smile lifting your lips. Jaemin merely stared at you in awe, his heart practically beating out of his chest. In that moment, you were the most ethereal being he had ever seen. Your smile never faltered as you turned to look at him, placing your hand over his.
“I’m really glad you’re here, Jaemin. That you’re having so much fun.”
“I’m glad to be here, Y/n. And that I got to meet you.”
❃❃❃❃
The weeks seemed to fly by as you and Jaemin spent more and more time together. After the third week, Jioo’s schedule had finally cleared up, allowing her to spend her days with Jaemin instead. Granted, your time spent with him dwindled but you were still able to meet at odd times of the day. As the last few days of Jaemin’s visit arrived, you grew anxious at the prospect of his leave. You had grown incredibly close with him, and you would only be lying if you said you weren’t growing feelings for him. The second to last night of his visit, you were sat under the cherry tree, back leaning against the trunk as you watched night fall. Eyes closed, you heard Jaemin approaching long before you saw him. His rushed footsteps came to a sudden stop before you and he plopped himself beside you, breathing uneven. You kept your eyes closed, waiting to see how long it would take until he broke.
“Look at meeee,” he whined, surviving only a few seconds without your attention, “I have something important to tell you!”
Giggling, you opened your eyes and turned to face him. An incredibly bright smile was stretched across his face and you looked at him expectantly.
“I got invited to stay longer!” He exclaimed, bouncing where he sat, unable to contain his excitement.
“Wait, really? Jaemin oh my god that’s great!” You sat up, moving closer to him to grasp at his arms.
“I know!” He grinned, bringing his hands up to grasp your face, “I was so scared I’d have to go home and never be able to speak to you again. God, I’m so happy right now, I don’t even know what to say!”
“Then don’t say anything.” You whispered, cheeks turning red.
“Hey, what do you mean by that?” Jaemin pouted, squeezing your cheeks together.
“I’m just saying, there are other things you could do…” Your voice trailed off, unaccustomed to being the one who initiated the flirting that went on between the two of you.
Jaemin froze, hands still resting on your cheeks. You didn’t know what to do, how to react to the sudden shift in mood. Before you were able to think too long, Jaemin leaned down and met his lips with yours. Although you had been expecting him to make a move, the kiss still came as a shock. A few seconds passed before you melted into his grasp, shuffling towards him until the two of you were pressed flush against one another. Eventually, you pulled away, breaths mingling as he leaned his forehead against yours. A smile crept across his face, his hands stroking lovingly over your arms.
“I’m really glad you’re staying.” You murmured before leaning back into his lips.
❃❃❃❃
You were living in a world of bliss. Never knowing when Jioo would send Jaemin home, the two of you attempted to spend as much time together as possible. Days were spent in the kitchen while nights were spent resting under the tree. Kisses were shared whenever possible, some nights were even spent lying in bed together, taking comfort in each other’s embrace. You still waited on Jioo, of course, it was your job. However, everyone was busy and your time was taken up by Jaemin for the most part.
You were sat on Jioo’s bed, helping her undo her braids as she chatted happily about her day. While you did your best to listen, you couldn’t help but let your mind wander to Jaemin. A smile found its way onto your lips as you combed through Jioo’s hair. After placing the brush on the bedside table, you allowed Jioo to turn and face you, a similar smile on her face.
“What’s got you so happy Y/n?” She prodded, poking your side.
“Nothing, I’ve just had a good day. What about you, Miss Jioo?” You teased, “I haven’t seen you this happy in awhile.”
A soft blush spread across her face and she glanced down at her lap before looking back at you.
“I-I think I’ve found him.”
Confusion spread across your face at her statement.
“What do you mean?” You inquired.
“Y/n, I really think Jaemin could be the one!” She whispered excitedly. Her hold on your arm felt like shackles, keeping you in place when all you wanted to do was run away and hide. How could you have been so blind? Of course she was falling in love with him. Why else would he be asked to stay longer? Why else would she gravitate towards his side whenever they were in the same room? But how could you blame her; Jaemin was charismatic, handsome, kind, everything one would hope for in a prince and a king.
You forced a smile onto your face, trying and failing to match her excitement.
“I’m so happy for you, Jioo, I really am. He’s a wonderful prince, I’m sure you two will live together in happiness.” Jioo reached across the bed and tackled you to the bed in her embrace. You had suddenly lost all of your energy and merely laid beneath her giggling form, gaze glued to the ceiling above. That night you avoided meeting Jaemin under the cherry tree, choosing instead to head straight to your room for a restless night’s sleep.
❃❃❃❃
Suddenly, the castle had burst to life. Everywhere you looked staff could be seen rushing around. A surprise engagement party had been announced. However, it was disguised as a normal ball to all those outside of the staff, including Jaemin. You found yourself spending less time with Jaemin; whether it was because of the preparations or the actual nature of the ball, you couldn’t be too sure. The day after you had skipped out on your meeting with Jaemin, he had found you first thing in the morning, demanding an explanation. You had made up a weak excuse about feeling unwell, immediately causing him to fuss over your well being. You brushed it off as a simple head cold and, soon after, the party had been announced. Jaemin understood you would be busy with preparations and let you be. His absence made the pain on your heart lessen, although it proved persistent no matter how numb you felt.
The day of the ball arrived and you submerged yourself in getting every last detail perfect. There wasn’t much else for you to do at that point. By the end of the night, Jaemin was going to be engaged to Jioo and there was nothing you could do to prevent it from happening. Jioo had finally found her happiness, and there was no way you would take it away from her.
Being Jioo’s right hand woman, you were allowed to attend the ball. Jioo was ecstatic when she found out that you would be coming and made sure you’d have your own hand tailored gown. Despite your protests, you found yourself standing in the grand hall surrounded by royalty, wearing a brand new light pink dress. The same color as the blossoms dotting the cherry tree sat in the middle of the garden.
As soon as Jaemin arrived in the hall his eyes found yours, a wide smile spreading across his lips. He hurried over to your side, intending to make up for all the time the two of you had lost that week due to the ball preparations. You smiled weakly, moving to meet him when a hush fell over the crowd. The King had stood from his seat at the table situated near the back of the hall, calling for everyone’s attention. Jaemin halted in his spot, turning to look towards the king while you squeezed your eyes shut.
This is it, you thought.
Your mind went blank as you reopened your eyes. You saw the king’s mouth moving but a loud ringing in your ears prevented you from hearing anything. Suddenly, a loud cheer rang throughout the hall and you knew it was done. Your head whipped around to look at Jaemin who stood frozen in his spot, desperation filling his eyes as they met with yours. Guests began to crowd him, congratulating while urging him towards where Jioo sat. Unable to look at him anymore, you glanced at Jioo to see the pure joy on her face. You couldn’t handle it anymore.
Without a moment of hesitation you bolted outside, heading straight to the tree. Your whole body felt numb as you ran. You lost your shoes somewhere along the way, but you couldn’t care. The grass felt soft and damp beneath your feet, helping you feel grounded, as if your body wasn’t floating thousands of feet above the earth. Not caring about ruining the silk of your gown, you fell onto the ground beneath the tree, rolling onto your back. You gazed up at the slivers of sky that peeked through spindly branches. Everything was silent.
You didn’t know how long you laid there; time seemed to cease to exist as soon as the announcement was made. After what seemed like hours, soft footsteps padded up to you, and you didn’t have to lift your head in order to know who was approaching. Jaemin sat beside you, your discarded heels in his hand.
“I can’t do it, Y/n.” His clear voice broke through the stillness of the night.
“You have to.” You spoke for the first time in hours, abruptly sitting upright.
“I love you Y/n,” he spoke firmly. “I’ll go back inside and explain to them that I simply can’t-”
“No, Jaemin. You have to be with Jioo.”
“But I want to be with you, Y/n! Why can’t you see that!” Jaemin yelled in frustration, running a  hand through his hair.
“I know, Jaemin! And I want to be with you too but I just, I can’t! Jioo loves you for god’s sake! I’m not going to be the one to take away her last chance of happiness. Please, Jaemin. She needs you. I need you to be there for her.”
A shuddering sigh escaped through his lips, eyes downcast. The previously festive air was now stale, neither of you daring to make the next move. Suddenly, Jaemin’s voice broke through the silence.
“Fine. If that’s what you want. If making Jioo happy will make you happy, then I’ll do it.” With that, Jaemin placed a lingering kiss on your lips before leaving you on your own once more.
❃❃❃❃
You didn’t want to attend the wedding. In fact, you had every intention to feign illness for the week preceding the dreaded affair. However, Jioo seemed so happy. You couldn’t ruin her special day; the supposed happiest day of her life. Much to her chagrin and your relief, she couldn’t make you her bridesmaid. That spot was reserved for someone of higher importance and status. You hadn’t seen Jaemin again, not since the night of the ball. You wouldn’t have been able to handle it, and Jaemin wasn’t making any attempts to see you. It made the pain easier for the both of you.
After much agonizing, the day of the wedding arrived. You actually felt sick to your stomach that morning, but you still had to attend. Jioo looked beautiful in her gown, breathtaking, even. Gasps filled the chapel as she walked down the aisle, everyone marveling at her beauty. They made a good pair, Jioo and Jaemin. Two beautiful people both inside and out, destined to be with one another. That’s what you had been telling yourself, at least. It made the pain easier the more you convinced yourself that you and Jaemin weren’t meant to be.
You stood to the side of the pews with the rest of the staff, slightly hidden by the marble pillars. The pillar couldn’t cover you fully, however, and you felt his eyes on you. You refused to look, choosing instead to stare at the floral arrangement before you. You wouldn’t look. You couldn’t look. If you did, it would break the both of you. It felt as though time was slowed, each minute ticking by at an agonizing pace. In that moment, it seemed the whole universe was working against you just to see you suffer.
A gasp from the crowd caused your head to snap up. The ring bearer had dropped the ring and was scrambling to find it, but you paid him little attention. As soon as you had lifted your head, Jaemin’s gaze held you in place. Tears began to flow freely, painting rivers down your face and under your chin as a weak smile forced its way onto your lips. All the commotion had pulled the attention away from him and Jaemin took this time to slowly and deliberately mouth three words to you.
I love you.
