Day 6: Draping on the Stand A tool which is key to my work is a stand or mannequin. After the first sampling sessions have happened , draping on the stand is a great opportunity to see what the knitted fabric will look like on the body. As my yarns are all plant based, the fabrics tend to be soft and follow the shape of one’s silhouette . However , it is very important for me to make sure that the garments also have a neutral feel to them so that they can easily been worn by anyone . When draping on the stand, I particularly look at: ♾scale of motif🔘 ♾Stitching and/or jacquard placement ♾ Collar designs ♾ Finishing details🧵 ♾ Would I wear it? Would the people around me wear it?🧐 This is a great opportunity to visualise the final product ! I had my second birthday in a row in lockdown this year! Joe and I went cycling into town and had lunch at @falafel_nottm -our favourite falafel take out-, had lunch with the pigeons of market square; took the boys to the hook nature reserve and “met up” on zoom with some of my closest friends in Italy. The beautiful rocks of Shetland have been a magical inspiration for pictures and experiments with our knitwear . Some of the rocks next to our local beach had been rounded up nearly to perfection through time and were quite the perfect spheres ingrained with beautiful pink grey and white patches. Our Oak Scarf is inspired by woodland and oak trees textures so very different from the actual Shetland scenery!
