There's SO many things I want to draw from the server and adventures that have been had, but I'm still figuring out how I plan to draw certain mobs and also fighting executive dysfunction so. Incoming eventually

Like I said, Lore), and this is my concept for the endermen. Based vaguely on bullet ants, because I'll also use those as inspiration for my endermite and enderdragon designs

For some reason, despite being a very capable warrior and colonizer adventurer, Benni is perpetually confused in my sketches. I'm still getting the hang of drawing mandibles, and I thought that last enderman looked judgmental so I gave it a thought bubble afsfsgdg

Opened a new tumblr tab and good LORD the layout sucks. And the funny part is, I don’t even mind a 2 panel layout- for a long time we had the main dashboard and on the side it showed nblogs and stuff. The two layout is fine. Three wouldn’t even be bad if it weren’t catering to twitter and actually gave the dashboard which is the centre of the page, a better, wider, bigger size. as it stands now, the lefthand side does NOT need that much room and neither does the other side. MAKE THE MAIN AREA THE FOCUS.

SO!!! If you’re anything like me and you’re nervous about running that script because it’s not an official or trusted browser script yet... here’s what I’m doing:

I tried my hand at writing something for my Irken OC, Min. (it's only 1k words, so it's a short read)

I wanted to work out a scenario for her without having to draw out a whole comic. Hope you enjoy!

Feedback/Thoughts would be appreciated, and the bulk of the writing is under the read-more.

On the way to Scout her next assigned sector of space, a galaxy or two over, Mins downtime was suddenly interrupted by the loud alert of an Irken Pak's automatic Emergency Signal. She quickly straightened up, accepting the responsibility of responding and opened the informational window on her console.

Hm. She may be the closest Irken to the signal, but that doesn't mean it would be a quick trip to get over to them. She was already 2 days out from her next Scouting sector, and going out to this injured Irken would triple that travel time.

Min didn't have a choice either way, and would just have to deal with the annoyance. On the upside, she was looking forward to hands on experience with the internals of a Pak again. The simulations get a bit repetitive, and she knew her own Pak inside and out.

"Let me get this straight. A creature, native to this planet, got inside your pak and started messing with its internals?" Min asked, clarifying the rambling and nervous story that was just told to her over the past 15 minutes.

"Yes" the injured Irken in front of her replied, nodding his head. "That's exactly what happened."

"Squeeb's Pak hasn't functioned right since! The panels keep flashing red, and it's annoying" the remaining Irken, Floop, added in.

"And I have no energy. Can't even open my snack jar anymore!" Squeeb complained.

Min waited a beat for any more explanations, before finally trying to move things along. 

"OK. Well, I'll need to get a look inside to figure out how bad the damage is. Do you have somewhere with better light?"

She could swear Squeeb's cheeks got a shade bluer as she spoke.

"Yes, yes! Of course. Just. Um. F-Follow me" stuttered Squeeb, getting up and leading Min towards their elevator, taking the pair deeper into the base, leaving Floop behind.

Was he giving her the Stink eye? 

The elevator ride was a little awkward. Squeeb anxiously rubbing his arm as they descended. Maybe he was worried Min was going to break something and make things worse? 

Before she could say anything to reassure her patient, they arrived to the right floor. 

The two stepped out into a standard Irken medbay, Squeeb shuffling over and sitting on the swivel chair in the middle of the room. He did look a little more gaunt under the brighter lights. 

Perhaps the Pak wasn't processing sugars correctly? 

Only one way to find out. 

"Hopefully this won't take long" Min reassured her patient, pulling up her own chair and adjusting the heights for optimal positioning. 

Squeeb was tense, but he stiffened up even more as Min reached forward and opened up the panels of his Pak to get a look inside, letting out a nervous squeek.

"You don't have to worry, I know what I'm doing" Min told him, adjusting the magnification of her goggles and reaching into the Pak.

"I trained for a few years before my Assignment was changed to Scout, you know. I even worked under Spor--" 

She cut herself off, too confused to continue her humble brag. 

"You said a creature did this to you?" 

"Yes, a creature. Why? Is something wrong? Is it bad? Oh God, it's bad isn't it?" her patient stressed. 

"If a creature caused this" Min started, as she pulled something out of the confines of his Pak, "then how did a glove get back here?"

"He left his GLOVE in my PAK?" Squeeb exclaimed, shifting around in his chair and snatching it from Mins grasp. "How-- How stupid can he be!? How do you leave your GLOVE?!"

The quick shift had rotated her patient around fully, stopping Min from further access to her work.

He seemed to have forgotten she was in the room as he spoke to himself. That was, until Min wheeled closer, reaching to turn his chair back around. The moment he snapped back to reality, his face went bright blue. No question he was fully blushing now. 

Squeeb clammed up again, quickly spinning back into position and hiding his embarrisment in one motion. "I-- I don't know how that got back there."

An obvious lie, but Min didn't want to challenge that right now. 

"I just need to check the damage" she told him carefully, going back to poking around the complex machinary. "and look for anything else... Out of place."

"It's Floops glove, ok?" the anxious irken explained, breaking the silence and shifting in his chair.

"He- He was being gentle, and didn't mean to break anything. I know messing with Pak's without any training is outlawed by the Control Brains but-"

Min had to remove her hands and stop what she was doing, lest she knock into something important as the chatty irken started talking with his hands.

"We're so far from Irk! We thought it would be fine, and if we were careful enough, nothing would go wrong! But nooo, of course it's not that easy. It started BEEPING and scared us both. Floop must have jolted and broken something in there." Squeeb continued, gripping and twisting the lone glove in his hand. 

Min couldn't get a word in edgewise, even if she wanted to -- which she did. She wanted nothing more than to fix this guys Pak and flex her technician muscles. But it was impossible with the paks owner so worked up. 

"And of course he swore it was fine, but I knew, I knew something must have happened. His glove probably got stuck between something and he just took it off instead of wiggling it fr--- AAAH!" 

The endless complaining was finally stopped by Min as she put both hands in his Pak and clicked the release, detaching it from the Irkens back. 

"What are you doing?" he gasped, his 10 minute life clock flashing across his vision. 

Min wordlessly wheeled her chair over to the closest wall, pulling down a thick pipe and plugging it into the open holes in Squeebs back. The life clock disappeared as quickly as it arrived. 

"You'll be fine, I just need to work on this in peace" Min told him dryly, getting up and carrying the pak carefully into the attached room. She probably needed to work on her bedside manner.

Tropes ask: I have my own armchair view of my proclivities but I'll submit my thoughts for peer review.

I usually like to imagine being a mini giant. In real life, I'm tall-ish and fat woman. I feel big and awkward and I get anxious about being in the way. Imagining being big means I would be, perhaps, intentionally huge. And in a more fun way. I want more affection and closeness and what better way than with someone miniature?

I saw you already wrote about size swaps but I also really like shrinking or size changes. I love to see the loss of control and approach from a (literal) new perspective.

Back in Office Baby!

Alright so there are quite a few details that you included that seem significant; specification on minigiant, self perception, recontextualization, shrinking and size changing, loss of control, and perhaps an implication of loss of self.

I find it intriguing when someone has a preferred size. Sometimes its for an aesthetic component (Say for example, liking the imagery of completely someone in your hand), sometimes its to symbolize a degree of control (for example when someone is relatively smaller than an inch, theres next to no way to escape, their voice may be totally unheard, etc.. compared to a minigiant who could theoretically still be hurt physically by a skilled enough human). It may also just be for some sort of practicality in the fantasy (able to still fit in buildings or remain hidden in a forest etc..). Although these at first glance just seem like supporting elements to the overall fantasy I still think they may be able to offer insight.

As discussed in previous sessions, subconscious imagery can be a lot more prevalent than we would first think. For the example above (completely fitting someone in your hand) there could be blatant metaphorical imagery at play.

One way to analyze that is to pull at the words a little;

What do I think of when I think of ____? How would I elaborate on the action? What emotions are invoked in me? What emotions do I want invoked in the counter archetype?

When I think of hands I could think of control, but also care. They have strength in building things, but they are also how I show I care. Through soft and loving touch. I think of being careful. Nurturing.

The action part (fitting someone within my grasp) feels controlling to me. All encompassing. Making someone else vulnerable.

I might feel in control, powerful, curious, and excited. Perhaps, I want the counter archetype to feel vulnerable, uncertain, small and scared.

See how such a small image can be picked apart for some much more interesting details? If there is specific imagery associated with your liking towards minigiants, I would definitely recommend further analyzing it or submitting it for another appointment.

Moving on to self perception and recontextualization. Using your own words it seems as though your body leads to some feelings of anxiety. I'd like to make specific note of some word choice; big, awkward, fat, in the way... all of these words have implications of being easily perceived/noticeable. You cite some negative emotions surrounding this perception. Perhaps some degree of social anxiety or insecurity. Where this becomes very interesting is in the recontextualization in the form of a minigiant fantasy.

At first glance this fantasy might not seem to make sense, given it could be considered the magnification of those aforementioned traits, as well as the novelty of a minigiant would certainly increase how much one is perceived by others. However, it seems like consciously or not, there has been some reframing on possible insecurities (not necessarily implying insecurities of the traits themselves but what they seem to suggest as a whole; anxiety of being perceived/noticeable).

The context has been altered to allow for positive restructuring. Big can be exciting and powerful and confident. Lets compare some word choice to the previous description of self;

tall-ish, big, awkward, fat, in the way, anxious

vs

intentional, huge, fun, [wanting] affection

These words exude more confidence.

Intentional; making it your choice

Huge; perceived as a much more impactful/powerful word compared to big

Fun; compared to words used like awkward and anxious. Fun is enjoyable, when we have fun we are less aware of ourselves, we are just enjoying the joy we find.

Wanting affection and closeness; compared to being in the way. Wanting to be seen as something special rather than a burden, as someone to get close to rather than in the way.

G/t is very heavily oriented around power dynamics, and having power tends to give many of us a great increase in confidence as it allows for control or safety in a given situation, among other things. By creating a hyperbolic scenario, it seems you are able to recontextualize the situation to allow insecurities to become the cause of confidence.

This seems to suggest in your day to day you may lack feelings you attribute to confidence. Integrating descriptors you use for minigiants could perhaps feel that lack. Trying to do things intentionally gives us a feeling of control. This could be as simple as even just picking outfits with an intentional vibe, arranging something in your room for an aesthetic layout etc... although I would assume that given the references to intentionality would be more impactful to you if it was associated with interactions with others; intentionally saying hello to a stranger or something along those lines. Integrating time for fun or closeness with friends and family could be very helpful as well.

Now obviously a lot of this is easier said than done, especially when we feel anxious or awkward, but I would definitely recommend looking toward your fantasies for insight. Finding what differs between feeling big and in the way and intentionally huge, and creating little ways you can bring that confidence into your day to day.

Moving on to one of my favorite topics; shrinking and size changing.

Man shrinking is so underappreciated.

Shrinking is something very special, and holds a much different sub type in the tiny archetype. While tinys such as fairies or borrowers have always existed with their status in the power dynamic, shrinking and size changing directly refers to a loss of power.

For those who appreciate physics; shrinking is a vector. A variable with magnitude and direction.

There tends to be much more specific emotions of horror and loss with shrinking, and the context and reaction one associates with shrinking usually has a direct link to some sort of trauma or general negative perception.

I would highly recommend picking apart what response to shrinking you are typically drawn towards.

You specifically mentioned loss of control as well as new perspective. I've noticed in many shrinking tropes we see a sort of man vs. self journey as the overarching tale, where they better themselves through their hardships at their new size and despite losing power, they gain some sort of moral or ethics. Now this is not always the case and there are a variety of shrinking tropes. At times it feels as though even if the shrinking is not a punishment in the narrative itself, its a bit of a punishment fantasy where shrinking allows for reflection, and represents change both literally and metaphorically.

If this tends to be what you mean by change in perspective, it could be very insightful to look at what you typically associate with the pre-shrunk individual and the changes the undergo when shrunk.

Blue Magpie Brooch

As I have written before, I have low tolerance for their chaos. This is how we survived through the amnesia years and beyond (as if we ever reached a beyond).

The world had low tolerance for their chaos. Before their fourth birthday, they were expected to grow up. They were often held to account as the adult in the room.

I said to the mother once, “[my partner] is older than I am, but I am more mature.” Her response was, “you always were.”

I am them. They are chaos and they always were, but they were also more mature. I choose not to be chaos, and more mature instead. I am them but I choose not to be them.

And this is how I avoid chaos, apparently.

Stress and overstimulation still challenge my anti-chaos, although less so than it did for them. I have a conscious commitment to anti-chaos that they did not. One could chalk it up to maturity, although that muddies the waters some.

I get the impression that stress and overstimulation were challenges for them and so there were likely times when these were sufficiently diminished for them to project greater maturity. But they were still a child. It comes to the same end as the word, “precocious,” does. It tries to justify the unjustifiable.

We are bright. Brightness is not maturity, however. We were exposed to aspects of life that were inappropriate for our age. Exposure is not maturity.

[Disturbingly, we may have discovered that we were less likely to be beaten if we were more attractive for a different form of abuse. I am the presentation of our conscious choice not to be chaos. I am the magnification and concentration of one survival skill learned in childhood. I do not always understand, but I persist. I am the imperfect resistance to ever-present childish impulses.

I am who we wish we would be. I am a crude approximation of who, maybe, we ought to have been. I am despite who we are.

I am the mask that hides hurt and confused children. And when we are tired and life gets too challenging, the mask begins to drop.

other than all that though, i definitely have some thoughts on the state of the game as a whole

first of all, nokk needs some kinda lifeline. her ability is a shell of what it used to be. her gun has been nerfed to shit (one of the things that bugs me most about it-- it's an smg. with less damage and a lower fire rate than the FUCKING R4C. yet it STILL has more recoil). frag grenades don't carry the same weight they used to. she needs something soon if she wants a place in the meta, because she's a bottom 3 op in the game rn imo (i think only sens and blackbeard are worse than her atm. in fact, i think an argument could be made that blackbeard is BETTER than nokk right now). i think another gun might be a good option if they don't want to buff the fmg (the c8-sfw seems like a popular community suggestion), but bringing her ability back to its old state is the number one most important thing we need to see

secondly, defender power creep. ill be the first to admit, i think theyve handled this pretty well so far. tubarao was reigned in a bit and azami got her kibas nerfed. i also think that EVERY attacker gun that isn't a shotgun receiving acog may have been a bit overboard, but it has addressed this issue in a way (i think they should balance the acogs like they used to). however, there's still a lot of work to be done on two ops in particular, and i think we all know who i'm gonna call out-- changes need to come to solis (as much as i hate to admit it) and DEFINITELY fenrir. they already addressed that solis is going to be adjusted over the course of the next couple of seasons, but i dont recall hearing anything about fenrir. taking one of his mine activations away could be something to tool around with, but i've always had a particular image in mind: first, a short delay period before the gas kicks in might be a good idea. right now, the toxin activates pretty much instantaneously when the mine is triggered, and adding a delay would make it easier for attackers to escape it before its effects are felt. second, i think that they should make the period in which the gas wears off dependent on how long an attacker is exposed to the gas. in other words, it wears off quicker if you haven't been in it for long, and gradually takes longer to wear off as you stay in the gas for longer. i'm no developer, but i think fenrir needs some adjustment and this could be something to test

for my third point, i mentioned it in the last paragraph. i don't think that just throwing an acog on every single attacker rifle/smg/dmr is a great call. here's what i'm afraid of-- when a gun is seen as overpowered, ubi has a habit of just nerfing it into the ground. they used to be nerfed by taking scopes away, but now that scopes are out of the picture, they're nerfed by reducing its damage or, most commonly, INCREASING ITS RECOIL. so, let's take the r4-c for example. it was in a good spot prior to this season, when it only had a 1x scope. if you wanted magnification, the g36c was the alternative that traded off damage and fire rate for that scope. now, they both have an acog, so the magnification trade-off no longer exists. the r4-c is the clear-cut choice. but i don't want to see a gun like the r4-c get its recoil nerfed if the acog makes it an "overpowered weapon" and makes the g36c inferior. the most sensible solution in my mind would be to just TAKE THE ACOG AWAY AGAIN. ash still would have magnification in the form of the g36c. creating that trade-off again would help make the g36c a viable option, and prevent the r4-c from getting an unnecessary recoil nerf because its 2.5x scope makes it "overpowered." you could apply this same logic (albeit maybe to a lesser degree) to iana, or nomad, or basically anybody with two assault rifles that have acog now. i just don't think an acog on EVERY. SINGLE. ATTACKER RIFLE. is a good idea. because looking at ubisoft's weapon balancing track record, i think they will resort to nerfing recoil and damage on guns that would be perfectly balanced if they just simply took the scope away.

my fourth thought is bring back the year pass. whatever they're cooking in place of it is bad. i don't like it and it will taste like shit. whether they're just removing it altogether or making a subscription service or whatever the fuck, i don't want it. and i don't think most people are gonna want it either. the year pass was super convenient and rather popular for people that will play the game over the course of the whole year. bring it back to us

my fifth and penultimate point is, please ubisoft for the love of god, DELIVER ON YOUR CONTENT THIS YEAR. this game was dying and, thanks to some bald-headed lunatic on twitch, it has a second shot at life here (you are LUCKY he chose this game as his big thing). i try not to be critical, but i've always believed in brutal honesty and i'm just gonna be flat out. you have consistently fucked up a lot of things in terms of gameplay, balance, and overall quality of life. just about every change or feature implemented was either half-baked, changed significantly so that it isn't even close to what was promised, delayed over and over again, or simply stupid and ill-advised. i still love you guys and still love this game, but a lot needs to be improved goin forward. based on the roadmap for year 9, it seems like you guys are committed to quality of life changes and overall balancing. i like what's laid out here, but it needs to be implemented well. if you want siege, which is likely your biggest and most consistent cash cow, to keep this kind of popularity it's seeing now, it needs a decent amount of content. additions and changes need to be well thought out. they need to be done properly and not released in a half-assed state. and finally, please just listen to the community. i know it can be hard with the millions of different opinions and ideas that everyone has, and how every single person thinks that they're a fucking developer (something even i'm guilty of from time to time). and some of these people trying to yell into the void to get their ideas heard (i.e. me) are just flat-out dumbasses and have no idea what they're talking about (i.e. not me, i don’t think). but i feel like a lot of changes over the past couple of years weren't warranted, and when the community pushed back, the changes were rarely altered and just went through as they were (the changes to frag grenades being one particular instance that i saw a lot of resistance on). i know you can't just listen to a community and do as they say, and i know you can't please everyone. but i do think that overall we could be heard a little bit more. i believe that how you handle community feedback has improved, but there’s still plenty of room for it to get better. and i say all of this with as much love as i can possibly say it with

Spotting Scope Numbers: What do they mean?

Let's talk about spotting scope numbers. Ever wondered what they mean? I did too, when I was a beginner. Take a spotting scope with 20-60x80 written on it. 

Example: 20-60x80

20-60 is the Magnification range The first set of numbers (20-60) represents the magnification range. This means you can adjust the zoom from 20 to 60 times closer than your naked eye. It's like having superhuman vision! - Everything seen through the spotting scope will appear 20-60 times larger than with the naked eye. When it comes to magnification, there isn't a one-size-fits-all answer. What's considered "good" really depends on what you're using the scope for.  - Birdwatchers might prefer a lower magnification for a wider field of view. - Hunters might want a higher magnification to spot animals from a distance. 80 is the Objective Lens Size The number after the 'x,' in this case, 80, represents the diameter of the objective lens in millimeters.  A larger objective lens lets in more light, giving you clearer and brighter images, especially in low-light conditions. 

Example: 4x32

4 is the Magnification Just like above, the number before the X is the magnification range.  - In this case, there is no range. The magnification is a fixed 4 times zoom.  - The magnification is not adjustable; everything viewed through the scope will be 4 times closer than with the naked eye. 32 is the Objective Lens Size The number after the X is always the objective lens diameter in millimeters. In this case, 32mm.

What range to get? - Bird watching: A spotting scope with a magnification range of 20-60X is perfect. This range offers enough detail for most birding situations. - Hunter/Shooter: Depends on the distance of the target. For targets at 100 yards, a magnification of 20-40X is sufficient. But if you're spotting targets/animals at greater distances, you'll want a scope that can go up to 60X. - General use: 15-60X is a good range. This gives you the flexibility to spot details at various distances. Higher magnification isn't always better. As the magnification increases, the image quality can degrade, especially if the scope isn't expensive like a Swarovski.

Objective Lens Diameter

The objective lens diameter is the size of the front lens on a spotting scope. This lens captures light, and a larger lens can capture more light.  Most spotting scopes have an objective lens ranging from 50mm to 80mm.  The size you choose depends on what you're using the scope for and the conditions in which you'll be using it. - Bird Watcher: A spotting scope with an objective lens size of 60-70mm is optimal for bird watchers. It provides a good balance between brightness, clarity, and portability. - Hunter/Shooter: If you're a hunter or shooter who needs a clear view in varying light conditions, a larger objective lens (65-85mm) is a better choice. Remember, though, these scopes can be heavier, so if weight is a concern, you may want to stick to a 60-65mm lens. - Other Uses: A smaller objective lens (50-60mm) will work for casual nature observation or if portability is a primary concern. They're lighter and easier to carry but might not perform as well in low-light conditions.
