s2 ep1 of The Ancient Magus' Bride felt like a surreal anxious dream, and I absolutely loved it.
The echo and the constant ominous humming in the background, the cold white light in the halls and rooms, the music, the voice acting, they all created such an eerie, almost creepy atmosphere in the College. I didn't expect that at all.
The manga is an artistic masterpiece. A few thousand pages painted in ink, each little thing drawn by hand in intricate detail, it's a work that already took Kore Yamazaki 10 long years. But even though I fully immersed myself in it, I'm simply incapable of picturing such worlds in my head. There, all these scenes were black and white, crowded in tiny panels on an A5 page. But in the anime they're vast and spacious, breathing, brimming with colour and sounds. Nothing like what I was desperately trying to imagine... so much more than that.
I am in awe.

First, I’d like to express my disappointment with the use of AI-translation for the simultaneous English release of the new manga chapters. I sent my complaints to the official accounts and I encourage others to do the same. It’s important to let the company hear our voices.

Mahoutsukai no Yome S2 adapted the one of my favourite arcs in the manga: the College arc. While the anime didn’t managed to capture the spooky/horror vibes from the manga, I still think it did a good job with the story. Chise’s character development was lovely to see.
I loved Chise’s relationship with Philomela and her other friends. It’s nice to see her hang out with people her age. Elias also made progress with his growth by making friends and learning about his emotions. It was a really good arc.
The story is a really slow burn one but I loved the focus on the characters and their relationships. The world-building and the magic system is also fascinating!
While I prefer the manga, I’m happy with this adaptation!

ancient magus' bride season 2: anime vs manga comparison
According to the fan and the official English translations, Elias never called Chise a child in the manga (here's a good post from blue-inspiration-blog about that too).
Was the line changed to compensate for this panel that didn't fit in the anime? Or did the creators actually want Elias to call Chise a child?
(this is ch 66, wanted to find it in Japanese but it's no longer available on comicgrowl. If any of you read the chapter in Japanese or official translation to any other language, please tell us how it was translated there!)

“Sorry to keep you waiting, Philomela” 😭 man that OST combined with the visuals were stunning. Best Mahoyome episode by far. The last 3 have just continued to top the last.
We finally get Philomela’s grandmother backstory and like you’d expect, her childhood was fucked up too. It seems like there’s a vicious cycle of expectation and emotional abuse placed on people from distinguished magus families.
It just keeps going on and on and on, no wonder Adam wanted to break it by running away. He wanted so desperately for Philomela to not have to deal with that life. His mother couldn’t show him any love because she never got any. She was only a tool meant to carry on the family name and reproduce.
The scene where he holds out his hand to hold his mother’s and she just looks at him like he’s crazy really hurt. In spite of all of that, Adam still made efforts to reach out and connect with his mother but she just couldn’t accept it since she never had that. Really sad story.I’m sure the time Adam spent with his wife and daughter must’ve been heaven on earth for him.
Using your own granddaughter as a sacrifice like that.. jeez this family is so messed up. They all needed help badly, Philomela is the first to actually cry out for it and what a beautiful end to the episode. Now that this is wrapped up, excited for what’s next.
