would you like take an adventure to the caverns of mamarun?

mamarun is a worldbuilding project me and my girlfriend were making mainly as a world to place a custom mtg set we were making. the major premise is that it is a world of caves with varying types of people living within it.

pt. 2: cephalids and the society of debate bros and theatre kids and theatre kids who are debate bros

the cephalids are molluscs and have shells which are oft custom crafted and designed for their professional or aesthetic desires. the cephalids are a society inspired loosely by ming and akkadian society but also with a weird twist of greek theatre and modern day debate bro culture because there is nothing more they love than owning others with words so much so the best debater is made the philosopher king of the cephalid. the cephalids often ask quite literally a penny for their thoughts as a large amount of them are nomadic in the search of new knowledge and skill to be able to one up each other. usually these nomadic cephalids will often be traveling musicians recanting tales and stories and debating people on the streets of foreign cities.

The avatar they pray to is the avatar of the theatre, representing their desire to have and their ability to keep attention as their king Jiao so well represents.

(baobing sar, a strange cephalid as they desire the knowledge on how to make the best frozen treats)

cephalids are often very good at being politicians as their abilities of obfuscation and debate make them great at preventing actual work from getting done, so they often find themselves finding themselves in the ranks of goblin politics. the cephalids otherwise do well at paperwork, mathematics, anything nitty gritty as the general societal goal is to become great at these menial academic actions making cephalid society, similarly to goblin society very bureaucratic. to the other groups in the cavern they are often just seen as weird and eclectic most the time and are at best a dear to have around and at worst a mild nuisance.

mamarun is a worldbuilding project me and my girlfriend were making mainly as a world to place a custom mtg set we were making. the major premise is that it is a world of caves with varying types of people living within it.

pt. 1: the goblins of new faros and the horrors of neoliberalism and industry

there are 5 different types of civilian within the cavern. first and most important to the cave by their sheer power are the goblins. goblin society is highly stratified between socioeconomic classes with a huge focus on transhumanist ideals of improving themselves with the magic of industry (and also magic). their society is heavily inspired by californian style neoliberalism with a lot of hellenistic theming to them, or as I have stated to my girlfriend as San Frangrecian. The demands for the goblins to search out self improvement through medical implants is usually done to the upper class by licensed doctors which are remarkably inaccessible to those who are already scraping by necessitating the meatsmith, a type of low class unlicensed doctor due to the cost of schooling and licensing. they generally use meat and bones instead of metal for the implants and are loved by their community by providing other more accessible care to those in need.

to the higher society the more "respected" career is the soldier which harass the other societies in the cave and represent the imperial force with the imperial core of goblin society being new faros (new light).

being a soldier provides great benefit and if you survive and don't end up disabled from serving your people you will be certainly treated well. as you can see the two goblins here are very different, that is because in goblin society the beauty standard is strict and those of the high rungs often spend much on reshaping their face to appeal to the standard. smaller teeth, thinner nose and ears, well kept hair are all very important things to what the standard is for goblins as pretty.

the goblins are led by a dude named nimby (yes like the acronym) and is like if jeff bezos and elon musk hatefucked and the child grew up in the richer parts of L.A. only to become a dictator would be what nimby is like.

each society has an avatar of which they pray to, a physical manifestation of their combined desires and culture. the goblins pray to the avatar of light, a manifestation of their general belief to be the new light of the cave to bless the world through the "gift" of industry. they will snuff out anything that gets in that way so the avatar of light is also seen as a symbol of war and violence.

the goblins relation to the other groups is oft as the opressor, to the bats they steal from to feed their own society while salting their fields at the same time, treating the salamanders as a race of criminals, and the cicadas as nothing the zealous to the wrong god. the only positive tie is the goblins and the cephalids who have similarly esoteric a society.

pt. 5: salamanders, once-dragons, cursed to breathe water instead of fire, and sail the seas instead of soar the skies

salamanders are the most schism-ed society out of all of the people due to the varying response to their god, the avatar of punishment, punished their hubris and power centuries ago reducing them to the seas for little reasoning but to see them rebuild like ants owned by a toddler

they are similar to blind olms and axolotls the have no eyes and gills to live underwater. some salamanders have a sense of pride in what they are know, some believing this was holy empowerment rather than punishment, some believe it was a great curse and are imbued with huge nihilism as less than what they were, and some believe it was a great curse but is a challenge which is gladly accepted as part of their new life. these three alignments often find themselves endlessly arguing with one another.

(boomslang, a pirate who believes that the punishment was a gift)

salamanders paint on eyes as makeup to appear for friendly to other species. they also just love being pirates sailing the underground sea to steal from trading goblin ships mainly. salamanders are often limited to the ocean so travel is usually quite hard in drier areas of the cave.

most of the salamanders who do not commit to a life of piracy life in the reefs of the seas and rivers often with the cephalids or in the rivers that feed through new faros.

pt. 4: cicadas, child soldiers of the sun

The cicadas are actually cicada nymphs, for their whole life in the cave they are children and once reaching adolescence, will exit the cave to see the sun. This cycle is most similar to seasons as there is the season of return for the cicadas where the new nymphs arrive, a season of growth where the cicadas mature and learn to fight and explore the caverns, a season of preparation, where the cicadas prepare tunnels to fly out of the cave, a season of death, where the leftover shells from the cicadas maturing becoming inspirited and haunt the caverns, and then right back into the season of return. the way the cicadas keep knowledge in the cavern by a eunuch class of "clipped-wings" who reach adulthood but never leave the cave to teach the new generation. a highly revered position due to the sacrifice required. in terms of hierarchy the next below is the clipped wing in training followed by all other cicada nymphs.

the season of growth is the longest season and is the only season in which the cicadas are often allowed to travel the cave during.

the season death is oft accompanied by the clipped wing dealing with the exorcism of the possessed shells of her former comrades. the possessed shells have high magic potential but to properly exorcise this potential is never to be used as it would now allow the proper exorcism.

the clipped wing in training is very well trained to deal with the season of death in both combat and magic by their former clipped wing who dies upon the new season of death.

the avatar of renewal is the avatar that the cicadas worship allowing safe travel and reproduction but also the natural glow of the sun, which some cicadas say they can almost see through the dirt, so the sun is a religious symbol. to other races it is an abstract symbol akin to the cross to nonchristians who know nothing about the crucifixion.

pt. 3: batfolk, communism but like for bats and fungus

the batfolk are known for their agrarian communal livings, being inspired mostly by korean culture, in the caves they often are the pinnacle of generosity, happy-go-lucky, kind of attitude. they historically have always practiced subsistence hunting but as of recent, the goblins have been demanding more and more in terms of produce from the bats so some bats have turned to a more industrialized type of agriculture. the average batfolk town often has a guard as there are scary little creatures who love eating fungus, the main crop of the bats as they grow fungus from the roof of the caves taking the drippings from the stalactites to provide water to the farm.

everyone in bat society is taken care of and the idea of family is very loose to the bats, as often they live in huge communities where many different bats will pair so the strict idea of a nuclear family is foreign to the bats. most of the elder bats will be considered parents to the child with the parent that birthed them being most central as a parental unit as well as some additional partners of that parent if saw fit.

greed in the batfolk community is a huge taboo and is often seen as something only children participate in so often a rebellious phase to the teenaged bats would be something along the lines of having a fascination with money or a desire for money or other consumerist desires.

the avatar of the batfolk is the avatar of fungus which reflects their desire for good harvest and good health as the fungus is often used for medicine and food. batfolk are often oppressed by the goblin's industrial desire for more land and more profit but other than that, batfolk are often welcome around despite their percieved poverty as they carry no coin (they have no currency of which to use as everything for their life is provided) they simply just search new places for new experience and simple joy.
