I know they're talking about Junior and Magnum, but honestly?

For an episode where Danny was absent, his presence was put into such glowing light by everyone, but especially by Steve who couldn't let the parallel between himself and Danny, and Magnum/Higgins go to waste. No Sir.

So yeah, Higgins is talking about Magnum and Tani is thinking about Junior (whom we know she'll ask out for a date at the end of the episode), but do they really think we're so stupid we can't do math and see whom else this rule can be applied to?

Remember when i said french mcdanno is better? well in the french dub of 8x14 steve refers to the restaurant as “their [danny and his] baby” when in the original he refers to it as “their thing” which yk is still cute but come on. steve is not even hiding the fact that he wants to have a child with danny that is JUST theirs. but like yk no homo. just straight men.

Having watched thru to the end of Hawaii Five O, I immediately ran to read all the fix-it’s and post-22 stories I could find. Still reading them.

And I’m thinking a lot about this H5O fandom (to which I came too late) and open vs closed canon fandoms.

Hmm. See, I get that fans go where the fannish energy is. But I hope fans who moved elsewhere get what a gift we got at the end of Five-O. Yes, Peter Lenkov is a putz in every way. But his bid to throw Steve and Catherine together on that plane was seriously awkward. And fans have written stories highlighting why that is. Clearly, Cole contacted Catherine re the cipher and told her about Steve’s plans. But, while Cole might not have known better, she sure should have. And her showing up makes her look so much more like Doris.

Now, if Steve had called Cath first, I might have believed the two might be okay together. But.. there was nothing there—no indication at all that Steve was pining for her while she was gone on her mission. And that handholding? Nothing compared to the hospital scene.

ETA: and the dialogue on the plane? Very, very odd. And awkward.

So… closed canon means there’s nothing Lenkov can do to eff things up further. The McDanno playground is ours, people!

mcdanno - a study in touch (with a little help from quora)

Steve isn't a particularly touchy-feely person before he meets Danny and even after him initiating physical contact is usually very precise and deliberate. He ushers Danny the way one does with a date. A wooing and guiding gesture.

When it comes to Danny, Steve is all of those things: protective, possessive, reassuring. He lets Danny know he's got his back and he really means it, as evidenced by above caps from 7x17 when Danny was babbling and embarrassed but couldn't stop himself so Steve stepped in and interrupted him fondly. Having his back doesn't just mean in a life or death situation, it's all the little things too. Based on body language alone it's obvious Steve has feelings for Danny and isn't shy about showing them.

For many of us, McDanno has always been the REAL deal. Not so for homophobe showrunner PL. Now we know why he gender-swapped Higgings and made her a woman. He wanted to prevent creating another male duo from becoming a fan favorite and wanted Higgins and Magnum to hook up from the get go. Or why is it we never got shower scenes between Danny and Steve? Asking for a friend...

On another note, Magnum can't hold a candle to McDanno! PL used his last bit of influence to ensure NBC picked up the already canceled show. It is his last remaining show on TV since he got fired by CBS. Even if he is no longer the showrunner, he runs the show from the shadows and makes sure his minions follow his orders. Also, H50 had a much bigger audience and fanbase and got picked up by no one. The same goes for MacGyver. As soon as Magnum aired, Lenkov lost interest in all his other projects, and it showed. He loved trashing the leads of H50 and MacGyver. What an idiot. Of all his shows, he saved the one that was nothing but a cheap copycat of H50.

Imagine Alex and Scott would have played Magnum and Higgins. Would have been fun to watch! And now bash away, I couldn't care less.

Steve and Danny's readiness to say they love each other is both really refreshing for TV in general (it is SO rare to see this much openly-expressed love between two men, esp in any show/genre as testosterone-driven as H50 is), and part of what makes their relationship so great to watch. "See, this is why I love you, buddy." - Danny to Steve, without hesitation, when Steve offers again to drop everything and head down to Colombia guns blazing to rescue Danny's dumbass fugitive brother from the shady real estate mogul who's holding him hostage. And yeah, Danny goes on to joke something about Steve always being so ready to risk both of their lives... but he meant the 'love you' part. He really did, and he doesn't try to walk it back.

There's so, so much love between the two of them. To the point that it's often hard to be bitter about their relationship not being explicitly and canonically romantic, the way that you can about so many popular queer ships in television. Their chemistry is written and performed with SO much love and care that you're often left feeling like it is a real and genuine on-screen queer romance, even if they never get to share a kiss or settle down together.

At first, I thought it would be really exciting to be on a date with another man. And don't get me wrong - it was nice to have somebody look at me that way again, you know?

(sighs) But it was strange and kind of weird.

Okay. Danny and his mum at the end of 4x16. They are talking about Danny's dad, of course. And about Clara's date with another man, sure. But why the hell I've got impression that Danny, while hearing all that "dating others is strange, weird and ok, maybe nice but... I don't want this, I want... only that one man, your dad", is thinking about... YEAH Steve? "I KNOW WHY". "It wasn't with Pop, you know" - oh gosh, you know, Danny, because... all your dates, all those girls (Rachel, Gabby, Melissa) are just like that, right? It's strange and weird and deep down you don't want this, you don't need this. Because it isn't with Steve.

Gosh, he looks so sad at this moment - too sad for "it's just an empathy for my Ma". He knows. He shares the same pain.
