First Boat Date

Danny asks Steve if he is crazy, but who is crazier, the guy who brings a beer cooler on their excursion to interrogate/intimidate a suspect by throwing him into a cage with (harmless) sharks, or the guy who readily accepts the beer and laughs about it? 4.10/4.19 Character Development, or The Time Holding Steve's Hand Was Not Helpful For Danny's Claustrophobia And The Time It Was.

Steve was genuine in his offer to help both times but the first time Danny assumed he was making fun of him and got prickly and rejected his hand so Steve got defensive and dismissive in return, because it irked him that Danny assumed the worst of him. The second time not only Danny took his hand without a word, he didn't want to let go, and when he calmly explained how this situation is affecting him, Steve ever so gently tried to calm him down, made sure he was distracted and coping even though he was in a hurry to find some leverage to get the concrete block off of Danny's leg. When Danny shows vulnerability and accepts Steve's help Steve is always there for him and vice versa. These two might be at each other's throats sometimes but when the push comes to shove they always have each other's back. I'm not even talking about the metaphorical implications of Danny finally accepting Steve's hand 😉

Putting these two iconic desperate rocking embraces next to each other, the similarity is remarkable. I can't help but feel like the person who put Danny in this specific shirt knew what they were doing, what are the chances of it being a mere coincidence?? The people making this show literally snuck in allusions to and invoked images of one of the most iconic cinematic gay romances of all time and they still expected us to buy that Steve and Danny are just platonic bros?

After his brother abandons him, Danny sits there on the edge of the sidewalk, looking like a lonely little boy, curled into a ball, feeling small and alone and making himself small.

In a beautifully symbolic visual, Steves comes to him, brings himself down to Danny's level, even tho he has to fold his long limbs awkwardly to sit next to Danny, to meet him where he is.

Steve is showing Danny that he will be anything he needs, whether it includes lying to the FBI or sitting quietly on the floor together.

Danny told him that sometimes, just being there, is enough. And Steve is there for Danny, physically and emotionally, and Danny notices and appreciates it.
