fic stats!
rules: give us the links to your fic with the most hits, second most kudos, third most comments, fourth most bookmarks, fifth most words, and fic with the least words.
please excuse me bc i was not tagged in this, but i saw this pop up on my dash from some of my non-mutuals and i was OBSESSED - so i did not wait my turn, i've just gone for it :)
most hits: yes, there is a chain and no, you're not on it (schitt's creek) a patrick/david fic i started when there were literally 15 fics for them on ao3 - it's patrick and stevie's text chain for all of the episodes of season four and i still feel smug about some of the things i managed to predict. i think it has the most hits of anything because it was there at the Beginning on ao3, it's got the most chapters, and i did accidentally leave it unfinished for like two years. (oops.) [but it has an incredible podfic!]
second most kudos: the best made plans are your open hands (911) for a fic that kind of walloped me upside the head and made me write it in like... a single evening, the reception on this has been SO sweet!!! an au where maddie takes buck with her when she leaves home at 18. i call it my 'happy healthy buckley verse' and i even have some more headcanons for it in the tag i have for it. in my mind, nothing ever really goes wrong for these two in this verse; it's my emotional support au.
third most comments: i only wanna be alone with you (schitt's creek) another patrick/david fic, this one written for a challenge. (a deadline always increases the likelihood of me finishing a fic.) this is probably (?) the ~sexiest thing i've ever written and it is... like not that explicit lmao. it also had a prompt that made me want to jump out of window bc my secondhand embarrassment threshold is practically zero - but i managed to write something that even my poor little soul could read and enjoy. [technically, 3rd most comments is the previous fic, but this one isn't far off in 4th place.]
fourth most bookmarks: deliver us unto each other (the old guard) this fic is my favorite child. i just think the stuff i love writing and the stuff i'm good at writing collided in this fic in a really lovely way and i'm so stinkin' proud of it. i felt feral while writing it lmao. it's about nicky's complex but deeply earnest and loving relationship with god and how his love for joe actually reaffirms his faith!! plus some great nicky + nile bonding.
fifth most words: i fell heavy into your arms (as the world turns) this is not my favorite of my luke/noah fics but i am very glad one of them made it on the list because all of my longest stuff is for this fandom and i miss nuke an unreasonable amount. those big bang prompts could pull 30k from me, no problem!!! this one's an au where noah is a detective and he has to solve damian's murder - and holden is a suspect :(
and least amount of words: Commandeered (h50) god this one was written so long ago it's still got an uppercase letter in the title 😬 also back in the day when i was still posting individual drabbles as their own fics - i've learned better! this fic represents my intense mcdanno phase, which still lingers in my heart like poison. (or a bomb.) genuinely a delightful prompt tho - an au where danny is the navy SEAL and steve is the jersey transplant. i honestly think i pulled this one off pretty well! they still sound very much like themselves.
-
i'm sad none of my sparty fics happened to make it in, since that was an Era unto itself but all of these delight me, so!!! here you go!!!
i tag: @cluelessheroes @functionalnihilism @angryfightingjew @woebegone-kenobi and literallly anyone else who wants to do this. you, yes you. i mean it!!! i promise you, if you do this and just pretend like i've tagged you to do it i will EDIT this post and tag you in it like you've always been there. i don't care if we're not mutuals DO IT!!! (sorry this was fun i really liked it and i'd like everyone else to have fun too!)

Making some progress….. maybe next week for a chapter update? We’ll see.  Maybe half-way through the first draft.
From: Family, Familia, ‘Ohana Ch 6, Eddie POV
Fandom: 911, H50, SWAT
Pairings: Buddie, McDanno, implied platonic Hondo/Deacon
Other tags/warning: first draft, NavySeal!Buck, Emotional whump, post-lawsuit era
Tumblr media
Picking up his phone he took a deep breath as he opened up his text messages and selected Buck’s name.
What to say?
He typed in ‘I’m okay’ but didn’t hit send.
Eddie wasn’t okay.  He wasn’t okay and he didn’t—hadn’t—lied to Buck before and he just…
He couldn’t lie to Buck… but he didn’t want to worry him.
Eddie deleted the unsent message and took a deep breath. I messed up but I’m going to be okay. He hit send before he could rethink it. Truthful and taking responsibility for the mess he’d made while attempting to temper the worry he’d caused when Buck had laid eyes on him.  The little ‘delivered’ notification showed up and as he was watching it changed to ‘read’.
Three little dots immediately followed to indicate that Buck was typing something. They disappeared and then reappeared like Buck had typed something then deleted it then was retyping.
Eddie couldn’t sit on the edge of his bed—he was too anxious. It did occur to him that it was still the middle of the night if Buck was in Hawaii…. Which a quick glance at his phone told him there was a three hour time difference.
Buck should be asleep.
Eddie had woken him up and he knew Buck hadn’t been sleeping well because he’d…
The silent vibration notification of a new text message made his thoughts stumble to a halt.
What happened?
Letting out the breath he’d been holding, Eddie watched as the three dots appeared and disappeared again before another message came through.
I know you don’t have to tell me but I’m—
I hope you are okay now. Sorry—don’t mean to be pushy,
Buck must have sent the first message by accident instead of editing it.
Sitting on the edge of his bed, he began hesitantly typing out a response.  The house was quiet around him—he had another fifteen or so minutes before getting Chris up for school as it was a late start today.  He’d let Chris sleep in after he’d woken up twice last night.
You’re not being pushy. I got in a fight—which was stupid of me. I’ll be okay.
A fight?  At work?
Eddie sighed, shoulders slumping. No.
The dots appeared and disappeared—Buck was probably trying to think if he should ask or not.
Eddie kind of wanted him to ask. Wanted Buck physically here so they could talk but then again Buck wasn’t here and Eddie was part of the reason for that.
I got introduced to a fight club.  The money was good and I was stupid.  Nothing really more to say.   Staring at the text, he hit send and curled forward over his knees. Now Buck knew how stupid he’d been and, while he was ashamed, he felt relief at coming clean about it.
That’s why you got the new truck.  I thought it was weird since you don’t spend money like that.
Eddie snorted. Yeah. I suppose things are going to be tight for a bit but I’ll figure it out.
There was no immediate reply from Buck—which Eddie supposed was fair.  After a minute the dots reappeared.
How badly hurt are you?
His hands tightened around his phone and he could only stare at the purple and red marks over his bruised and swollen hands that hurt at the action. That guy that had come to the 118 was right—he should have taped his hands. He contemplated for a brief second downplaying his injuries but immediately shook his head at the idea. Eddie would tell Buck the truth—communicate.
It mostly just looks bad. Bruised up but nothing’s broken.  I’ll be fine in a few days.
Buck must have been very worried. Did you get checked out by a doctor? X-rayed?  It really didn’t look good on my screen the brief look I got of you.
Pursing his lips, Eddie tried not to be offended. Buck I took care of much worse injuries than this and I know what I’m talking about.  I’m fine.
The phone rang in his hand, displaying the contact picture for Buck.  It was a picture he’d taken of Buck and Christopher at the zoo pretending to be monkeys in front of the chimp exhibit. They both had such huge smiles on their faces… it’d been a great day that day.
So lost in the memory of the zoo trip, he’d almost let the call go through to voicemail.  Fumbling slightly, he hit accept. “Buck?”
“Are you really okay?”  Buck’s voice cracked a bit across the distance.
Sighing, Eddie closed his eyes.  He could pretend Buck was here if he couldn’t see him.  “I’ll be okay Buck.  I promise.”
“Okay,” Buck said, the sound of his breathing coming across the distance. “If you’re sure.”
“I’m sure—really Buck.”  He tried to put as much certainty into his voice as possible.  Dios Eddie missed Buck like a limb.
There was a pause. “I’m sorry.”
“Why?  I think I’m the one who owes you an apology.”  Buck didn’t have anything to apologize for in his mind.  He’d been the one to screw up and not support his best friend when he’d been struggling with being injured.
“Why?”  Buck’s voice went a bit high in disbelief before he began speaking rapidly, almost tripping over his words. “Don’t Eddie. I told Mackey about Shannon and—“
Eddie cut him off before Buck could really get going. “Buck I get it. I… if you need to hear me say it then I forgive you.  I was… I was angry but I’m not anymore.”
“You’re not?”  The smallness to Buck’s voice made Eddie want to wrap his arms around Buck.  Buck’s sense of self worth could be terrible at any given moment and Eddie had just made it even worse by not talking to him.  He’d screwed up so much and he’d accused Buck of not thinking of anyone else—Buck who always put everyone else before his own needs to the point that he often got hurt because of it.
Being angry at Buck, in retrospect, had been a terrible thing to do to Buck. Eddie knew how much it had hurt Buck and the regret he felt swamped him.  He needed to fix this.
“I was angry because I couldn’t talk to you,” Eddie confessed, voice going soft. “I just… I reacted badly and took it out on you which… wasn’t the right thing to do.  I should have… I should have talked to you and ignored what the union rep told us.”
“I wasn’t there for you or Christopher.”
Buck’s voice was rough, the transmission across the distance making it sound like he might be crying and Eddie bit his lip.  He was making Buck cry and that wasn’t what he wanted. He was such a screw up. Find your words he angrily told himself.  “That… I could have ignored the advice and I didn’t. I cut you off Buck before any of that happened.  I’m sorry and I hope you can forgive me for what I did.”
That was definitely a sniffle he heard and it sounded like someone else in the background asked Buck a question that Eddie couldn’t understand.
A male voice.
At this time of day?  It was so early in Hawaii… who was Buck with?
Eddie’s hackles began rising along with his jealousy but it was cut off when Buck spoke.
“There’s nothing for me to forgive you for if you forgave me.”
“So we both forgive each other?” Eddie asked, chewing on his inner lip and trying not to desperately ask who Buck was with, imagination still running wild.
“Yeah.”  The roughness of Buck’s voice soothed his nerves, calming him.
“I miss you,” the confession slipped out before he could stop it. “I’ve missed my best friend—you—every day.  I’m sorry I… I’m sorry it took me so long to say it.”

h50 finale: a summary, with screengrabs
So my original post got lost in the ether thanks to my laptop.
I AM FUCKING PISSED OKAY. FUCK YOU LENKOV.
So let’s start at the beginning. Steve’s face when Danny calls him to say he’s being tailed?
(Yes I know I skipped a few mins. When *she* got mentioned I knew where this was going. But... “the one that got away” REALLY STEVE??? YOUR LENKOV IS SHOWING)
Tumblr media
Steve McGarrett: a man who literally reaching into a burning car because he thought Danny was in there.
Tumblr media
And then they take “the person he cares about most in the world” DID YOU HEAR THAT
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Steve’s face. Just... no. He is breaking.
Tumblr media
Danny said he’d kill ya. And guess what? He was right.
Tumblr media
And then there is this. I JUST CAN NOT. SOMEONE EDIT THE BLOOD OUT FOR ME LOL.
Tumblr media
Steve, not letting go of Danny even for a second.
Tumblr media
“You wanna take someone? Take me.” EXCUSE ME WHAT
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This scene guys. Steve was so worried, probably thinking about what he would say to Grace and Charlie, and the guilt he would carry forever if he was the reason they didn’t have a dad.
Tumblr media
Damn, son. That bitch was trying to get under Steve’s skin, saying again that Wo Fat was Doris’s son. And you could see the cogs turning in his head - does he shoot her? He wants to, you can see it. But he knows he shouldn’t.
Tumblr media
Ugh, the scene nobody wanted because it will break us. The goodbye scene. I feel you, Danny, Your main man *is* leaving ya. Steve says it’s not forever... it fucking better not be.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Least we got an “I love you.” And Steve looks like a fucking giant hugging Danny, soooooooo cute.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
THIS WAS INTERESTING. Steve turns back, like he wants to say something else, or go back and sack off this leaving shite. Steve pleeeeeaaaase go back and make things better, go sit by your best friend and THE PERSON YOU CARE ABOUT MOST IN THE WORLD.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
JUST FUCKING KILL ME NOW OKAY. HE IS LEAVING EVERYONE WHO CARES ABOUT HIM
Tumblr media
FUCKING NO.
Tumblr media
Steve’s nervous about this, but also I’m so curious to know where he is going? Least that’s one thing fanfic can make right (one of many).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This text made us smile too, Steve. JUST GET OFF THE PLANE. THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE LEFT PHALANGE STEVE, GET OFF THE PLANE THERE IS NO PHALANGE.
Tumblr media
and then then. THIS. 5 YEARS OF CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT DOWN THE FUCKING TOILET. WHY IS SHE THERE NOBODY WANTED HER THERE. STEVE EVEN LOOKS “WTF”.
Tumblr media
*deep sigh*
Sorry. That went on longer than expected. But I am seeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeething.
God bless fanfic, that’s all I’ll say.

i saw on your main blog that you've watched due south! i love that show so much! since it's one of my favorites i want to cross it over with everything. i've been thinking recently how much i would love to see the h50 characters interact with Fraser and one or both of the Rays. mostly i think i want Fraser and RayK to lead by example and show Steve and Danny that they too can ride off into the sunset together
Yes, I have, and oh my gosh, hello! 💖 I love encountering other people who love Due South in the wild because fdjkfd oh, how I love that show.
I’m not always big on crossovers because they make my brain break a bit sometimes, though you did just put the concept of Fraser and either of the Rays in Hawaii in my head and that is Most Glorious and I have to thank you for it. Poor Fraser would melt. Someone would have to wear a Hawaiian shirt. I kind of feel like it should be Dewey, who is now apparently tagging along too (Chicago PD won the lottery and sent all of their Detectives to Hawaii?), but it’s also entirely possible that the only correct answer to “which of these characters should wear a really awful touristy Hawaiian shirt” is actually “all of them”. I will give this matter additional consideration as I go forward.
ANYWAY. The thing that actually made me go !! about this ask was that last sentence and specifically the thing about riding off into the sunset because YES. YES, I AGREE. I mean, my thinking has been a bit less on a characters learning from each other level and a bit more on a showrunners learning from each other one perhaps, but still. I once wrote a long and rambly post about how Due South did its ending perfectly and h50 could have learned a thing or two from them that still languishes in my drafts, and I guess this is as good a time as any to spend way too many words making that point, so I’ll put the drafted text under a readmore here:
[Edit: this is where the “keep reading” should have been if this were a functional website.]
you know what show really did their ending right, if you ask me? due south. the main character, fraser, is a guy who is part of an organization that left him with a hyper specific skillset most ordinary humans don’t possess. he lost his mother at an early age and his father never truly recovered. they had a distant relationship that they never had a chance to fix before fraser’s father was murdered. against law enforcement’s wishes, fraser worked his father’s case to catch the killer in the pilot episode, thereby neatly kicking of the entire series. fraser is never shown to have a strong interest in women except for his one epic romance, the one that got away (literally, repeatedly), who is a dark-haired woman who left him heartbroken and a little screwed in the head. fraser owns a dog that he talks to frequently, lives for his work, and is very, very good at it, but is also, deep down, incredibly lonely.
fraser also has a partner. (or two, but we’re talking kowalski here.) this guy, ray (rayk), is a divorced man with a european background and a whole host of issues surrounding his imploded marriage, some of which are to do with kids. he’s very particular about his blond hair, he can ramble, and he has strong opinions and those are not always favorable when it comes to the methods fraser employs during their cases. but he loves fraser! and fraser loves him back, and they have said those words out loud. ray will chase women and be annoyed that they just fall at fraser’s feet; ray has a very specific car; ray used to have a dog he loved dearly but it died and he doesn’t have one now; ray is a really great detective with a lot of heart.
and then there’s the finale. in the two-part due south finale, someone gets shot and badly wounded and fraser once again has to deal with fall-out from his parents’ legacy. ray’s ex-wife meets someone new and marries them (the other ray, fraser’s other partner, as it so happens), firmly putting an end to the potential of revival for that relationship. fraser is asked by his only possible love interest at that point, thatcher, to follow her as she gets promoted (because she is also his boss), but he declines. ray, who fears that fraser might be leaving him (for the other ray, who returned after a long undercover stint, but that’s plot stuff that’s not super relevant in this discussion), nervously asks thatcher whether she’s ever felt like she needed a certain person to feel like herself, “like if you weren't around somebody, or that someone wasn’t around you, then you wouldn’t be you, or at least not the you that you think”, and she says no, and later ray and fraser have a talk about partnerships that is interrupted by her, and she tells fraser that she can see that he belongs in this place (the canadian wilderness) and that she can’t think of a life less appealing and they realize their paths will diverge here. in the end, fraser catches the bad guy with a lot of help from friends. he decides to leave chicago (the setting of most of the show), but, and this is pretty instrumental, he leaves it for canada, which is his real home, and ray is with him. we’re shown how all the other characters that we learned to love over the course of the show end up, and all of them have their own lives but they seem happy, and then we’re left with just ray and fraser on a dogsled amidst a lot of ice and mountains, planning a hopeless adventure (because it will keep them together) and riding off, so very very very literally, into the sunset.
and, look. not all of this finale template would fit h50 and steve and danny. there are differences, because they are (thankfully) not exactly the same show, but except for maybe the dogsled and the ice on those mountains? dear lord, they could have copy-pasted the bones of due south’s finale and it would have been so close to perfect.

Okay, so maybe some of you noticed that I wasn’t that much present on IG these past few weeks and I’m sorry, because I took a little pause. I was still posting from time to time, but not as much as I used to, but I’m back and with this edit that’s sitting in my phone for a long time. A friend of mine suggested to write that particular text on the pic because I ran out of ideas, and I wanted it to have text. I am also trying to work on editing more, just waiting on inspiration to come to me. I was also writing, I posted a 10 chapter H50 story on ffnet just yesterday and a one shot in between. This story took me a lot of time, but it finally turned out to be like I wanted to. I’m working on some of my one shots and an AU idea at the moment, but no promises made up front when it will be ready. Another thing regarding the pause is that rl has been a little bit hectic and well all of three years law school, exams and stuff crashed on me, so I had to take a breater. I usually spend much of the time on Twitter and Tumblr talking with my friends and occasionally skyping with some of them, and tried to stay active on all social networks, but failed. But now I’m back and well I think I should probably make a plan of what I’ll post since my memory needs healing, it’s all jumbled (so I don’t forget 😂) And last, but not least thanks for everyone that liked my posts, tagged me in pics and fics and kept me in the loop. I have to admit, I missed IG a lot.

Here’s an Easy Way to Update an Old Course Without the Source Files
“Help, I need to update my course, but I don’t have the source file. All I have is a link!”
This is a common issue. Here’s a solution that may work for you and it’s generally easy to do.
In a previous posts, we looked at how to copy text from old Flash courses and how to transcribe them using into new slides.
How to Convert the Course to HTML5
The secret to all of this is screen capturing your old e-learning courses. You can do what I am going to show with a number of tools. For example, Storyline has a screen capture feature where you can bring in one screen at a time. That works fine for smaller courses.
For this demo, I am going to use Screen2Gif because it works well for this demo that has a lot of slides, it’s easy to use, and it’s free.
youtube
View the detailed tutorial on YouTube.
Below are the basic steps. The video above has more detail. Essentially, we’re going to capture the old course screens, bring them into PowerPoint as images (because we can do a simple batch import), and then we’ll import the PowerPoint slides into Storyline.
Once inside of Storyline you can add interactive elements and additional content.
Basic Steps for Converting the Old Course
Determine the original course slide resolution. Don’t include the player; just the slide. Most courses are usually 4:3 or 16:9.
Create a PowerPoint file at the same resolution as the course images.
Create a Storyline file at the same resolution as the PowerPoint file.
Go through the course using a screen capture application. This will capture all of your course screens. If you have interactions, you’ll go through those as well. You want a copy of every possible screen. Just click on everything clickable. I’d even go through the quizzes, just so you have the screens. You can use that content later.
Review the screens you captured and get rid of duplicates.
Save the separate frames captured as image files.
Batch insert the screen capture images using the album feature in PowerPoint. I like to force them to fit the slide. That way I don’t need to do any adjustments. Things should be aligned.
Import the PowerPoint slides into Storyline.
From there, it’s a matter or making some edits and adding interactions, quizzes, and whatever else the course requires.
For example, you could take the screen for a tabs interaction and combine them into one slide with layers for each tab. Then add hotspot triggers to the layers.
Example: Course Converted to HTML5
I created an example course using the steps I outlined above. For the demo, I copied the old course screens and created new slides Storyline. Then I published in HTML5. It only took about 10 minutes and considering the time spend, looks pretty decent.
It’s definitely a good solution for a lot of the old compliance training that needs to go from Flash to HTML5, or if you need to update a course and don’t have the source files.
Click here to view the example HTML5 course.
Obviously, the best solution is to rebuild the course from scratch. That works fine if you have a handful of courses. But if you have dozens (or hundreds) that need to be converted to HTML5, then this is a viable solution for many of those courses.

Author Asks
Rules: answer these questions and tag five other fic writers to do the same.
I was tagged by the wonderful @novemberhush. Thank you, omg, because I love rambling about writing and this is the best kind of opportunity to do so, handed on a silver platter, ahh. 😊
-
Author Name: Square / Squares / SquaresAreNotCircles
Fandoms You Write For: I’m a fandom hopper! In the past year or so it’s been Hawaii Five-0 (a truly ridiculous amount), Shadowhunters, Venom, Harry Potter, due South and Stargate Atlantis. Other fandoms I’ve written at least one fic for are Twilight, Doctor Who, Torchwood, Glee, BBC Merlin, BBC Atlantis, Teen Wolf, In The Flesh, Star Wars, Supernatural, the MCU and High School Musical. And uh, Alexander the Great/Voltaire fic (which would be... history fandom? RPF?) and one (1) Judas/Jesus Biblefic. If we’re getting really technical, also a tiny little bit of One Direction fic.
It should be noted that all of this is about fic that ended up getting posted somewhere on the interwebs - there are multiple Star Trek (TOS/AOS and DS9) fics lingering in my drafts (!! one day I will finish one of them), as well as some How To Train Your Dragon, The Good Place and Deadpool stuff, and definitely more I’ve forgotten.
Where You Post: Since I made the switch to writing in English everything has landed on ao3, but I used to write mostly in Dutch, so there’s still close to a million words, I think, under my name on quizlet.nl (not to be confused with quizlet.com, which is a very different website).
Most Popular One-Shot: That depends on how you’re measuring popularity! Going by kudos, it’s Tell me I’m perfect (but tell me the truth), a Magnus/Alec Shadowhunters fic. It’s the truth is a really old fic about Percy Weasley/Oliver Wood from Harry Potter that has the most hits out of all my works, and That time Steve kissed every single Avenger (and also Bucky), an MCU Steve/Bucky fic, has the greatest number of comment threads.
Also, since this is an h50 blog: for my fic in this fandom Wanted: partner (in crime) has the most kudos and hits; You had me at meow has the most comments.
Most Popular Multi-Chapter Story: I’m working on one for h50 (going slowly, so slowly), but I don’t have any posted to ao3. I used to write a lot of multi-chaptered work in my quizlet.nl days, and I think my most popular fic there was probably the second fic I ever wrote, when I was fourteen or fifteen, which was a next-gen Harry Potter fic with shifting and overlapping POVs from the three Potter kids. It was kind of, well, not great, but it’s probably what really cemented my writing habit, it’s still my longest fic ever (over a 100k!) and I got my first fandom friends out of it, including one I’m still in contact with to this day, even though neither of us writes much if anything for Harry Potter anymore.
Favourite Story You Wrote: Ohhh, that’s such an impossible question, especially because I’ve been churning out one-shots like I might actually be getting paid for it, so there’s so much to choose from, which is a thing I have difficulty doing at the best of times, holy shit. Uh, I once wrote a 70k Remus/Sirius (Harry Potter) modern college-ish AU in Dutch that I still like; weirdly, I think that Biblefic holds up (also Dutch), and the HSM fic is fun to reread once in a while because of the fourth wall break, as is That escalated quickly, a Percy/Oliver fic. Ooh, and the fic about Shuri and Stucky and a goat!
For h50, it’s even harder to choose, because my preferences change pretty much weekly (a combination of newer fic being shinier, looking back at fic from even just a few months ago and finding things I would have done differently now, and comments influencing the way I personally look at my own fic), but right now, I’d say I still really like the fic where Steve adopts some guinea pigs, the one with the slightly tipsy team bonding by talking about mutual crushes and this 9.11 coda fix fluff getting together thing.
Story You Were Nervous to Post: That Biblefic, haha, because it’s a very complicated topic and my aim was definitely not to offend. People were really sweet about it, though! Mostly, they were kind of shocked it wasn’t crack, but that’s fair, because so was I.
Also pretty much anything I post in a new fandom, really, and low key just... anything at all. I’m always a little scared I tagged something super badly or accidentally copy-pasted the wrong text or unknowingly wrote something super offensive or whatever, despite my double- and triplechecking of the posting form. (I’m also still kind of scared people on ao3 will randomly decide they hate my fic and my writing and me personally (ao3 is really big and very anonymous and coming from the small town that was quizlet.nl even in its heyday, that’s scary), but that fear has abated as I’ve posted more, just because the data is showing pretty conclusively that thought is as irrational as it sounds. Everyone is always so nice, gosh.)
How Do You Pick Your Titles: Mostly, I steal lines from random songs. I have a small pile of song lyrics to use as potential titles, because going on a seperate hunt for every new fic would take most of my waking hours. Sometimes, I’ll use a pun (like You had me at meow or Retail Therapy) or something else that I think sounds good, especially if the fic is mostly comedy and/or has a specific premise that would do well in a title (like Five times the Governor of Hawaii suspects his taskforce leaders are violating fraternization policies (and one time they tell him they are)).
Do You Outline: I’m mostly writing fic of (sometimes much) less than 5k at the moment, so not really. I do sometimes write tiny bits of a bunch of scenes and then fill in the rest around that, which is a kind of outline, in a way. For longer works, I usually make a one page bullet point list of things that need to happen and work from there, because I can’t do really extensive outlining or I’ll just get caught up in the details and lose all of the oversight a tool like that is supposed to give you, as well as most of my enthusiasm for the project.
How Many Of Your Stories Are Complete: Of the ones posted? On ao3, all of them, because unfinished posted one-shot works would require some strange bending of those concepts. On quizlet.nl, I do have some abandoned works, but I think 80% is finished.
In-Progress: SO MUCH. Seriously, just, so much, oh god. I’d really like to write another Stargate Atlantis fic (and I have 30% of one done), and something more for due South, too, and maybe a small Percy/Oliver thing again some time because they were my very first OTP and I kind of miss them, but mostly I have, like, 100+ half written things for h50. I really wish that number was an exaggeration. There’s no way they’ll all get finished, but maybe... a third? Mayhaps?
That One Truly Long H50 Fic that I was already talking about way back in October last year is also eternally “in progress”. The thing is that it has about 25k now, after a year, and I think it needs... at least four times that. Probably. So either I’ll have to stick with this fandom and my slow progress for another three years to have a shot at getting it finished, or I’ll need to find a way to up the speed a little. Maybe I could try working on it for NaNo this November? That would be pretty awesome, but honestly, part of why it’s moving this slowly is because NaNo-style fast and messy writing for this scares me a little, because I might end up writing a lot, decide it’s not what I wanted for it, and become too intimidated to ever edit and/or rewrite the entire thing. But idk, I probably just need to get over my own fears, because I really do want to write Longer Fic again. Short stuff is fun and feels really productive and that’s great, but I miss the actual slow burn and build-up that only 50k+ words can give you.
Coming Soon: Hopefully a lot? For h50, that is. I have no idea what’s getting posted next, because I’m never entirely sure what’s going to be finished next and something really random might come jumping in, but at the moment I’m trying to direct most of my energies at a slightly longer fic I’ve been working on for months (not The Long Fic, a different one), a fic labeled “9.01 memory loss fic”, another one temporarly entitled “Perfect Kauai beach house vacation”, and maybe an ace!Steve fic I’ve been working on, if I ever manage to uh, actually finish that, instead of rewriting three sentences during every round of editing and never actually adding anything to fill in the gaps it still has. There will also be more season 10 codas, in all likelihood.
Do You Accept Prompts: I’ve never done that before in the traditional way, but I’m thinking about it! I’d love to try (and it would be a breath of fresh air, in some ways!), but the main thing holding me back is that I have way too much on my plate with just my own ideas to work off of, and I don’t want to disappoint people. Maybe if I do drabble-ish prompt fills? It’s definitely been on my mind.
Upcoming Story You’re the Most Excited For: I’m excited for a lot of stuff, but honestly, the top spot right now probably goes to the ace!Steve fic. I’m not even sure it’s that good, necessarily, but it’s, idk, really cathartic, I suppose. Seriously self-indulgent in strange but very good ways. I really like writing it. (Second spot goes to the beach vacation fic, because I haven’t actually written that much for it, but it’s been my go-to easy happy place for the last few weeks.)

I’m tagging @love2hulksmash @thekristen999 @stephmcx @girlonastring @flowerfan2 and @pterawaters, which is six people because I can’t count, but I’m about to make it seven because I’m also tagging you, the person reading this (hi there!). Say I tagged you and tag me so I can read it! I know that kind of thing can feel awkward, but it won’t be, because I’m cheering you on. Go for it, if you want to do it. :D

I got inspireeeeed, again 😊. Yesterday I watched 1x20, 5x07, 2x10 (and additionally 4x21 and 5x16 that gave me some ideas to give it a try and write a post ep ff, we’ll see when that one will be ready). Anyway, these moments were some of the best and worst that could have happened to our boys, so the idea to make an edit with these particular moments stuck with me until I caught myself capturing screenshots. But, I decided that I’ll insert the hugs from 1x23 and 3x14 too (blame me for wanting cuddles and hugs between these two😍). The text is lyrics from a song by LL Cool J ft. Fitz and The Tantrums “Not leaving you tonight”. I was talking with a friend on Twitter when the idea came up and while I was waiting for reply the lyrics of this particular song sounded in my head. The lyrics sooo give me the McDanno feels (they practically screamed at me). Feel free to listen to it and tell me what you think about it. #ScottCaan #DannyWilliams #AlexOLoughlin #SteveMcGarrett #HawaiiFive0 #H50 #McDanno #adorablegoofs #myedit

How to Transcribe Text into PowerPoint & E-Learning Courses
I’ve been playing around with ideas to get old Flash course content into a new HTML5 course. There are tens of thousands of old Flash-based e-learning courses where people no longer have the source files. All they have are published versions of the course and need to convert to HTML5.
Grabbing the media like images, video, and audio is usually not as challenging. But moving all of the text can be a hassle.
In a previous post we discovered how to use screenshots and OCR to extract the text from the old course screens. Another way to get the text into your slide is by reading it out loud to transcribe it and insert into your slide. I like this approach because you it’s easy and you have to go through the content anyway. Reading it out loud may help you think through the tone and some script changes you’ll make in the new HTML5 course.
There are applications you can buy to do the recording and transcription, but I want to focus on tools you already have that won’t cost anything more.
Use PowerPoint to Transcribe Text for HTML5 E-Learning
The new version of PowerPoint has a dictate feature. All you do is press the button and start to read. PowerPoint transcribes the text and adds it to the slide. Then you make your edits. You can also send the file out to be verified and edited by others who use PowerPoint. Once it’s ready, import the slides into Storyline.

Use Google Docs to Transcribe Text for HTML5 E-Learning
Some of you use Google Docs instead of Microsoft Office. In Google Docs, under the Tools tab, you’ll find a Voice Typing feature. Just press it and it starts to record. If I speak clearly, I find it to be very accurate. Once the text is on the page, send it around to be verified and approved. And then copy and paste it into your HTML 5 course.

Use Windows to Transcribe Text for HTML5 E-Learning
Microsoft Windows has a transcription feature that works to transcribe text right into Storyline. Press Windows + h keys to open the narration window. Start talking and it will do the transcription. It’s not quite as fast or accurate as the solutions above, but it makes up for it by recording right into the Storyline slide or Rise lesson.

So, there you have it, three easy ways to read the text from old Flash-based courses to get them into your new HTML5 course that you can update and edit as needed. Then publish it for HTML5 and you are all set.
