Listening to Artificial Condition again and I really, really hope the new book, System Collapse, addresses the fact that Murderbot was forced (by the situation) to have plastic surgery to change it's figuration from SecUnit standard.

Because holy fuck I forgot just how messed up the whole thing was. And seriously, ART?! You have a trauma module in your MedSys and still wonder why Murderbot is so resistant to having to change it's body? For shame. I hope the new book redeems you (jk, I feel like ART got the trauma module after this book specifically for dealing with Murderbot)

So I'm overdue to finally give a little life/health update since I went on my writing hiatus. I had hoped to be able to put off any sort of updates until I was finally able to get my ass back in the saddle and writing again, but that's not really on the table just yet.

I'll spare everybody the long and boring details, but I've finally been able to start seeing a doctor again and get the ball rolling, albeit clunkily, on my mental health. I've been back on antidepressants for a few months now, and last month I finally got an ADHD diagnosis and started meds for that. Unfortunately the ADHD meds have been a lot harder to adjust to, and combined with the lingering fatigue from my depression I'm kind of back into lump mode lately.

In addition to all that fun stuff I got unexpectedly sick back in June for a few days, which turned out to be Baby's First Gallstone. Had a bunch of imaging done since August, and I'm currently scheduled to go in to get my gall bladder removed on the 28th of this month. This'll be my first surgery since I was five, so suffice it to say a ho is Nervous. They also want to keep me in overnight for observation since dad doesn't qualify as someone who can reliably look after me, so I'm going to be missing out on a couple days of work at least. I'll be spending the next week in panic-cleaning mode in preparation for the physical recovery, but on the monetary end of it the chances of me having to ask for help buying groceries in December are definitely higher than zero. Cross that bridge when we come to it.

With all this bundled up together its kind of looking like this winter is gonna be a hibernation season for me. But honestly I think I need it. My body needs some rest while my brain goes through a backlog of critical updates.

So yeah. Still here, but still not quite back up to snuff. Here's hoping for next year. 🤞

ART has an extremely complicated sub-algorithm within its MedSys with a different name, personality, and restricted memory access to function as its crew's therapist. because otherwise the conflict of interest of having your therapy done by someone who is your family member, AND your colleague, AND also your house would be an ethical and practical nightmare.

you mentioned the other day that you were hoping to see more of Yuma and Crowbar (🥰) so here's a snip from a draft of one of the spinoff fics featuring them that i've been working on! after spending some time on Preservation, the two of them end up back in the CR, secretly working to repair discarded SecUnits just like Yuma did for Crowbar.

cw for mentions of blood, injury, and suicide (none described in detail). this is the first time that a damaged unit comes in to their new home base. (the fic gets a bit Angsty in the middle but the secunit will be fine in the end, i promise!)

“You know, this is how you showed up,” she tells Crowbar, as she shoves the crate across the floor. “Care to help me open it up?” “This seems appropriate,” it says, and lifts the crowbar with the flaking yellow paint off the wall where it hangs, a memento. It takes the crowbar that freed it to the lid of the crate. “Gods,” Yuma says when she sees the limp form inside, “that’s a lot of blood.” “We’re going to need the equipment that Niri set you up with,” Crowbar says grimly. “Can you get the legs?” She helps it heave the SecUnit up out of the crate and walks it to the padded worktable in the back room. “You were cleaned up when they brought you,” she grunts. “I didn’t expect….” “So much bodily fluid? Neither did I.” They lay it down and Crowbar begins to start up the partial MedSys installed in this room. “I’ll get this going. You work your magic.” She leans over the body. It’s not hard to find the wound. “It’s been shot,” she says. “Looks like multiple times, right in the stomach.” “We don’t have a stomach,” Crowbar reminds her. “That looks like the power cell.” Her heart sinks. “I don’t know how to fix one of those.” “We can get replacement parts. But if you hook it up to an external power source, then maybe…?” Crow gives a half shrug and a twisted smile. “I don’t know. It doesn’t look like it got hit anywhere else.” “Multiple gunshot wounds in the same spot. Someone did this up close.” She starts pulling tools off of the rack on the wall. “Do you think…they ordered it to stand still?” “Maybe.” The MedSys beeps to life. “Or it was self inflicted.” “You mean—“ She turns to look at Crow. Its eyes are sad, but it nods. “It happens. It’s…not common, because it’s not easy, but I’ve seen units try.” “Might explain why it was sold off so quickly. Damn.” She looks down at the unit, lying lifeless on the table. “I hope not. But either way, I hope we can get it fixed up.”

Haritu buat ujian MEdSI dekat website UPSI. Pastu dapat email kata esok result keluar. Punyalah tunggu memang harapan palsu lah. Tapi takpe sebab busy dengan sekolah dan assignment semua tu so jadi lupa.

Dan seminggu iaitu 2 hari lepas result keluar dekat e-mail. Dia kata GAGAL weh. Tak tahu la nak sedih ke apa sebab takdelah mengharap sangat lulus sebab kita jawab sangatlah jujur kat situ hahaha.

Dan terima kasihlah buat kata² kawanku yang menyenangkan hati ini. Takpe benda boleh cuba lagi hehe. Doakan saya deh.
