Not letting us actually buy anything with gravel totally kills the fun of it and is a huge missed opportunity. Can there be a SINGLE microevent/holiday that doesn't cost over 200k?? Cease the gayism and accept my rocks as currency, marva
Majorly disappointed they can't even get through APRIL FOOLS without turning it into yet another money pit that requires grinding. Is it really that hard or unreasonable to just have ONE goofy event that's purely fun without grinding?? At least make the vistas only available for 4 days cheaper than the vistas that stock normally, damn. Shame that marva just turned into Sornieth Bill Gates, smh.

Telesto thumbnail I made for my recent YouTube Video on the Telesto microevent! It's always fun to experiment with new stuff, since I don't do weapon renders. I'm definitely going to refine this and hopefully make the next one ever better.

children’s lit 🧒: would you ever see your book being taught at a school or university lit class? if so, what would the topic be on?
it's so funny because even though this blog is entirely prose fiction, i've never really thought about it being a book. does a collection of loosely connected short stories count? if so, then i think it's more likely that my work would crop up in college classes than high school classes. high school english classes tend to assign the same stuff over and over again, which is fine to a degree. but as someone who's both taken and taught college literature classes, i know that's the place where you get to explore beyond the (western) canon. the class would probably be called something like women writers in the twenty-first century or american microevents. maybe something on nostalgia in literature. i don't know! it could work 🖤

🍬🍬 halloween’s coming 🍬🍬
For the coming week, Trick-or-Treat is OPEN on my blog! While Halloween is usually only on October 31st, having the event open for one week will allow people with slightly less IRL time to take part in the microevent as well :D
If you go and send me a Trick-or-Treat message when your character is in disguise, you can end up with a delightful surprise.
However, don’t even think of coming without a costume... ;)

first impressions of this warriors way update: uh. wow. cool. two festivals in one month, i guess?? decided to give it a chance anyway, and after bonding with 749 familiars and doing all my gathering turns, tomo, ect, i ended up with: 39 broken arrows 40 shattered swords 47 smashed shields + (half hour in coli, various venues) 7 Broken Arrows 10 shattered swords 8 smashed shields That's.. something, I guess. Coli drops seem to be SLIGHTLY better than normal festival currency so at least there's that. There needed to be a system like this because these devs can't figure out how to do loot distribution to save their lives, but turning a microevent into another festival is kind of obnoxious as shit. I really don't see why there had to be THREE currencies but whatever. Just seems really ... arbitrary and dumb, honestly. At least the agility of certain enemies in coliseum was allegedly reduced. Still doesn't make the coliseum any less of a joyless slog but lol i'll take the silver lining. I find aspects of this update slightly annoying but overall its Fine. I'm mostly worried about Notn. They claim they're not changing the chest contents, and they're only going to be moving notn treasure and gem items to the exchange, but I'll believe it when I see it. Devs kind of have a habit of tweaking things at the last minute, or just doing something else despite reassurances. :^)

The “New Racism” of K–12 Schools: Centering Critical Research on Racism
Even before the BlackLivesMatter movement, but especially recently, there has been a “new racism” surrounding schools. It’s not forward and outright, but rather subtle and hidden. There are different types of racism, overall, but particularly when looking at racism in education. There is “anti-racist racism”, a type of racism that is applied through the color-blind theory. This is when the oppression people of color face is eradicated at schools because the students choose to ignore the racial inequality that exists (Kohli et al., 2017, 184). Without addressing the discrimination P.O.C. face, students are falling accomplices to actively participating in racism. People of color are unable to reach their full academic potential because others are ignoring racist school guidelines, disproportionate representation, and lack of help when needed. There is “everyday racism”. This is applied primarily by white advisors, teachers, and staff with racist microevents, small things that some might not even pick up on that perpetuate into the larger picture of racism. This can range from indirect racial insults to direct racial statements (p. 186). An example would be everybody turning to stare at the only African american in the class while reading about the history of slavery. It is coined “everyday racism” because they are everyday acts that are comparatively minor when looking at the bigger picture, but introduce a discriminatory mentality to the oppressor. Approximately one third of African Americans now attend suburban area schools, but those schools are still primarily filled with white kids. Black students confirm that, while there, they are followed by racist stereotypes. Curriculum, school policy, and competency of teachers all play a role in institutionalized racism. We can see racial injustices through schools shutting down in urban areas, displacement of black teachers, and racist aggression in schools for people of color. Studies have been conducted in Chicago, New Orleans, and Tucson.

Cinco De Mayo Charcuterie Board
It's that time again. Time for another creative charcuterie board! And just in time for Cinco De Mayo! Cinco de Mayo is a celebration of Mexican heritage. Commemorating the date of the Mexican army's victory over France at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. Cinco de Mayo is not an official Mexican holiday and actually is celebrated more here in the states than in Mexico.
The U.S. celebration of the holiday began in California as an expression of solidarity with Mexico against the French. The holiday spread throughout the country and today is considered an opportunity to celebrate Mexican identity, promote cultural awareness, and build community.
For this amazing reason, we think it's a great opportunity to build a very Sabrosa(that means yummy) Mexican heritage-inspired charcuterie board for the occasion!
Unlike many nontraditional charcuterie boards we do, the great thing about a Cinco De Mayo board is that traditional Mexican foods are rich in all sorts of gourmet cheeses and craft meats.
Tumblr media
Our focal points of these boards will be the dips. You may already be familiar with queso dip. But like most things here in the states, queso dip is one of those things that's been American-zied. Nacho cheese dip and the melted cheddar mozzarella mixes you get at restaurants are not truly Mexican. Surprise. Authentic Mexican melted cheeses are known as queso blanco or Queso fundido. We'll be using queso fundido because it has the word "fun" in it! 😅 Too cheesy? Get it?😅😅. Ok we're done
But seriously, Queso fundido is the more flavorful Mexican cousin of queso blanco, usually served with grilled peppers folded throughout. This recipe also adds a little chorizo to elevate the dip to new heights! And if you are seriously looking to wow people take it a notch up and make it a Queso flameado. You guessed it, cheese flambé! Setting the board first, of course, add a shot of tequila(85-100 proof or at least 50% alc) on top, gather everyone around, have the boomerangs ready, then toss a match!
Tumblr media
This isn't necessarily for show. It also can be done to re-melt the cheese when it starts to cool and solidify. Serve in a small cast-iron skillet to give it a rustic feel.
Next up we will stack some tetelas oaxacas surrounding our queso. Tetelas are small triangular-shaped snacks made of corn masa and stuffed with retired beans then topped with, you guessed it, more Queso. Of course, you can add crumbles or salsa for extra flavor as well. Although beans are the more popular stuffing for tetelas, they can also be stuffed with other fillings like pork cracklings, mushrooms, and cheese, just to name a few.
Alternatively, for those not wanting bean stuffed chips, we will share the circle with some small crispy chalupas!
What is a chalupa? Chalupas can be found in the south of Mexico and is a crossover between tostadas and tacos. They are an iconic Poblano street food. Although the queso fundido will be our focal point, your chalupas will be the main charcuterie. They are a versatile airy blank slate that your guests will be able to top with other ingredients or just dip in your queso. So have plenty on standby!
After that, we can do rows of fresh sliced jalapeno to start our Mexican flag colors! Followed by some slices of Queso Panela.
Like most authentic Mexican cheeses, panela is a soft and white cheese. But it is made with skim milk and thus is firmer and considerably more flexible than its queso brethren. Panela can be easily cut but not crumbled. Panela cheese is slightly salty and is most often eaten alone or with other ingredients as a snack or an appetizer. Making it a great choice for our Mexican charcuterie.
Next up, we will lay out our red meats to finish up our flag colors. To contrast all these salty snacks, how about a true Mexican treat. Chamoy and tajin are some of the greatest Mexican secrets. When combined then tossed on mangoes you get the most amazing flavor known as mango con chile!
Finally, at the end of the board, we will do a mixture of mini tamales and cut elote aka Mexican street corn! Off to the side, you can have small bowls of salsa verde, sour cream, and pico de gallo to keep the Mexican flag theme going
Now we know this may seem like a lot of stuff for you to be making a simple cheese board. But here's a pro tip. The corn husk you will have leftover from your elote can also be used for your tamales. Also, the corn masa is enough to make several hundred chalupas and tetelas. So don't fret too much about all the ingredients because everything will eventually make everything else for you. Nothing goes to waste in Mexico.
So much goodness comes from our neighbors from the south it is no wonder we love celebrating the people and their culture! Hopefully, this charcuterie will be the perfect centerpiece for the festivities!
