Song Review: Lake Street Dive feat. Monica Martin - “Can’t Help Falling in Love”
“Can’t Help Falling in Love” has been recorded so many times by so many artists that it’s become a bit of a joke. But Lake Street Dive and Monica Martin just made it serious again.
The arrangement is sparse - some bass to give it shape, a splash of electric guitar and light percussion to add color.
But the magic of “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” as on this live-in-studio stand-alone single, is in the singing of Martin alongside LSD’s Rachael Price and Akie Bermiss. It’s stunning, even as the temporary sextet erases every trace of Elvis Presley.
