just came to a sudden conclusion as to why a lot of the names i have used in the past, or that i align with right now, are nouns!

im not a human (as im otherkin, etc), and just like how you’d name a dog, cat, bird or any other animal something like “coco”, “cookie” or “courage” (or like how someone might name a pet dog an animal they are not, like “moose”, for example!) i enjoy noun (particularly food) based-names aswell!! just in a dragon way, or in the way of any other creature i may feel i am =03

my sister was watching cartoons while i was getting ready to work today and. apparently there is an episode of my favorite childhood cartoon i forgot existed. and it is about one of the characters, a moose, learning he was a butterfly in a previous life and deciding he wanted to be one now too. and of course like all his friends went "well if you're a butterfly you have to eat only nectar and sleep in on a tree instead of your own house :)" immediately

'Kinning for fun' isn't wrong. It can be a really fun and positive thing in your life! But calling it kinning is not good.

'Kinning' is a word that was created based on a misunderstanding of 'otherkin' where people thought identifying as another species/character was something we chose to do. In reality it's something we have very little control over. We created words like otherkin and kintype to talk about these very specific feelings we have of literally being another species/character.

When people started using our terminology to talk about some completely unrelated experiences, it made it a lot harder for us to find other people to share our experiences with, and we're often met with downright hostility from people who claim *we're* taking our identities too seriously because *they* have the wrong definitions of these words.

We know exactly which people coined these terms in in which contexts (The Elf Queen's Daughters coined elvenkind in the 1970s, Elezar coined otherkind in April 1990, and Torin coined otherkin in July 1990). All this info is available with the most surface-level google searches. There's no excuse for not knowing it.

Furthermore, 'kinnie' was coined by tumblr user mcflurries in 2017 in a lowkey transphobic and highkey anti-kin post, and it was then popularized by anti-SJW blogs, including antiotherkinshit, kinphobic-moose, and only-on-tomblr.

What people who 'kin for fun' are doing is completely fine - except for calling it anything related to the otherkin community. It varies a bit why people are choosing to go by a nonhuman/fictional identity, but some alternatives to 'kinning' could be roleplaying, faceclaiming, copinglinking, and otherlinking.

I always love how anti-kin are like "What you believe that you were another being in a past life? That's ridiculous and unhealthy" but "You believen an omni being has created the ENTIRE universe and also everyone and knows everythings that happened and will happen? No Problem with that" Like... seriously?

To be fair, kinphobic-moose, yet another anti-kin blog, just came out as strongly anti religion, even calling religious people pitiful and regurgitating some straight up Leninist rhetoric. I’m just baffled that a human in our current day and age would uncritically repeat ideas from 1900 in all seriousness. To quote them directly: “at the end of the day, i really want nothing more than to see these poor people released from religion, so we as the human race might proceed into the future unhindered by delusional bronze age beliefs.”

I also remember a thing with only-on-tumblr a while back where someone (I think it was one of the AKC mods?) pointed out that every single one of their arguments could be used against modern pagan groups - something that angered one of their mods greatly as he(?) was a pagan himself.

But yes, for the most part, they seem to give religions, and even other subcultures and identity phenomena, a free pass. When someone who happens to be otherkin acts in a bad way, they use it against our entire community. When someone who happens to belong to any other spirituality/subculture/ontological ideal does something bad, they treat it as just a bad apple.

I fully believe they started out attacking otherkin only because we’re weird, and then later convinced themselves that we’re harmful, so they wouldn’t have to feel bad about essentially being high school mean girls.
