Brynryn, hi hello, how are youuu?

Anyway, since you asked me abt who i ship my mutuals with, i wanna ask you something as well! >:D

What (two or more) characteristics do you personally like about yourself and your mutuals? You can either just say it, explain it, or anything really lol

About myself: I have a love-hate relationship with my grit. Mostly because I know I was born talentless in all aspects (no exaggeration), so every creative endeavor I have is 99% hardwork. And no, my parents don't have writing or drawing skills. I don't need to explain how my mom only knows how to draw "v" birds or how my dad isn't great at English. Absolute shame on them. (jk I love my family, I wish I could just pass my lifespan to hem HAHAHA). So when all hardwork fails, I feel like absolute shit. Second thing probably is my faith. I think I wouldn't be here if I didn't have some level of trust with the universe overall. The rest of me is garbage tho lmao. If I'm an otome game character, I'm 100% the beloved and beloathed trash husbando /srs.

About @leftdestiny-posts: I'm not sure I'd ever encounter an internet mutual like them ever again, and I think their appreciation for life and bluntness/straightforwardness is something to be admired. They're traits I don't have. Shiro and I are very very different people, and I'm not sure why there was a miracle that made us meet lol.

About @a-dose-of-phitre and @estellxli: longest friends I have. I really admire their creativity and skill, and if you want me to be honest, I know full well I'm left behind in those departments. If you know me irl, I'm not exactly the most affectionate person so I'd rather keep this part brief haha. Though, a small addition, I admire estella's communication skills and assertiveness a ton and I wish I had a bit more of Phitre's endearing charm and mannerisms (and height-). I'm super stiff lol.

About @navxry: Probably communication skills as well? When we met, they talked continuously. As much as I know I'm an extrovert and thrive off social energy, I think something in me is holding me back to being as vocal as they are. They also seem to have an abundance of energy. Ahh. Youth. /j

About @mixed-kester: i wish i am surviving engineering as much as she has i wanna quit can i quit also how does she pick colors sht is unfair i always have to open up google chrome to— //hjjjj

About @jessamine-rose: she already knows about my fashion sense or lack thereof, so let's talk about something else. I greatly enjoy her writing style because I know it's not something I'd pull off. Her sentence structures doesn't become verbose, they're incredibly succinct— enough to lead you along. Other than that, probably the way she bounces ideas spontaneously. I wish she sleeps right tho HAHAHA /silly

About @vennnnn-diagram: I probably pestered them too much about how normal people work honestly. I lack social skills so learning about stuff from them makes me feel a bit more knowledgeable without any visible judgement from them. So yeah, add that as one out of two. The second one? Their music skills. I hate learning instruments. I don't know why. I tried plenty. I suck plenty. Everyone in my family are great at playing except me. They're the Bruno Mars to my gambling addiction. WAIT WHY DOES SOUND LIKE THE WORST PICKUP LINE KN EXISTENCE HAHAHAHAHA

About @stardust-for-your-soul: i wish i can write fluff i wish i can write romantic things why can't i think of romantic genshin men headcanons why'd it always have to end in murder— oh and also, I love her prose. Chryseis can turn the mundane to something that oozes with beauty, and I think that romanticism is wonderful.

About @lucienbarkbark: i absolutely do not agree with your love for dazai /silly but I do admire estorea's unapologetic nature. Hell yeah bestie fricking read thag 300000+ chaptered story 😭😭😭 /gen. I find it a challenge to sit down and read nowadays huhu. Also, I like how warm she is to talk to, we haven't DMed much but it feels so hospitable (?) whenever she send fic links. Wish I was more like that. Also, thank you for the oda fics, soldier.

About @meimeimeirin: when mei put the kamisato siblings in a kin tier once (unless memory fails me), i remember silently agreeing so much. She has that "I got most my life together" vibe and I do wish I have that. She's also very open to talking about what she loves, she doesn't hide her affections and it's something I very much look up to if you've seen the things I've written so far lol. I love how vocal she is with appreciating what she has, including some new drinks she tasted, her parents' loving relationship, it's just sweet. The teashop aesthetic definitely suites her vibe. She just seems so... Elegant? Can't be me, I need to cause a mess /silly

About y o u: well first off if I get to have your hands for a day, you'd find weird ass drawings of blonde men on your drawing software. Second, I like your vibes a ton. It hits different. It fluctuates from absolutely chill to saying lowkey out of pocket things and I might be getting gaslit to thinking you're not at all the latter /j

5. Anything you haven’t drawn yet but want to?

I have this thing I call The List in my sketchbook that I keep adding more crap to draw to. So. Yeah a lot of things. For example, a sequel to my "comfort character" drawing (the one with Medic, Sub-Zero, and Michael Myers in the car) but it's just the other halves of my otps (in this case Heavy Weapons Guy, Scorpion, and Jason Voorhees) begrudgingly hanging out because their menfolk are out raising hell and they're waiting on them.

Oh that's so fucking hard to choose. Uhhh. I'm gonna show multiple because I can.

These two are my favorites I did for class, From The Garden and Body(Flesh Prison)

This is my favorite original fun drawing (Fettuccini the Good Noodle is my ttrpg character Korn Kenny's pet giant eel)

Then my two favorite fandom pieces. In which I fed the lesbians and acquired a new ship that has consumed my brain, respectively

16. What’s the most daunting part of your process? Ex, planning, sketching, lineart, rendering etc

Lineart my fucking BELOATHED. Unless I'm in a flow state, it's hellish. Absolutely feels like dragging myself through barbed wire and broken glass

23. Do you listen to music or watch shows while you work? If so, what’s your favourite?

Usually, I listen to podcasts or video essays. Podcasts: it's usually Distractible. Because I'm basic. Video essays: I like anything that goes in depth about media analysis.

24. How do you deal with artblock?

Smack my head against the desk and power through with a prompt or something. Harder to do during the semester since I also have class work that takes priority over fun stuff, but eh it is what it is. I just try not to let art block win by being stubborn.

2022 art review :]

Every year I like to take one piece from each month and go over it, what I like, what I don’t and how my art changed over the year

January- absolute dead eyed stare, I choose to not draw faces on both those statues only to put no effort into the center character’s face. This piece is the beginning of the bright colors that have had a choke hold on my art ever since

February- old Comet design my beloathed. I was trying to do something with this piece and it really just doesn’t work at all the values are awful. I will give this piece credit though, this is the birth of Comet but boy does it show

March- This has got to be my favorite piece of the year but I really really want to redraw this because there are things I really want to fix like the background (lord those pillars are rough) and posing to make things a bit more interesting

April- purble. I still think the concept behind this character is fun but like, you can really tell this is a first design, most under designed Goddess ever. I think the muddiness was there in the march art but its really apparent in this piece

May- I really havent wanted to draw faces these past months huh? The shading is just so muddy it was honestly at its worse during this time. This piece is also just so nothing, like for a piece about setting a church on fire with a magical stick you think it wouldn’t be so boring

June- Pride elf!

this is the coloring style I ended up adopting for Super V later in the year and god do I regret that. I wish I’d put more effort into the coloring on this because despite this piece taking like 5 hours It really doesn’t look it, but it’s a start I hope I don’t abandon it for several months

July- oh no. Anyway this is my most popular piece of art ever which if I knew that I wouldn’t have done nothing with the background. The muddiness is back with a vengeance and i feel like I should have emphasized the light source more even though it is just a candle. Sorry for making you all cry tho my bad

August- the typo in the original post still makes me chuckle. I tried to do some minor perspective work with this piece in the arm and it really doesn’t work huh. This has got to get redrawn this is the cover for my comic man, It just looks very low effort, which is most likely because I made it while I was on vacation

September- oh hey look that coloring style is back. Man this one just doesn’t look good. I think it’s the head and the left backpack strap I also just didn’t do any work on the center part of the hoodie, I did end up shifting away from this coloring style in my general art though since I don’t like doing it

October- mmm lot of experamentation this year huh, this shading style is also very bad don’t worry this is it. This was just some artsy hand practice but I really stood have just stuck to standard hand practive because that left one only has four fingers

November- I should have just gotten rid of that railing :/ 2023 is going to be the year I work on backgrounds I promise. I don’t mind this one too much, I think I just have a chase of staring at a piece so much I start to hate the sight of it

December- man this one really isn’t good either :/ I was doing a lot of experminentation this year and never really commited and worked on stuff long enough, except the bright colors, those came in like day one and they stuck with me.

Hi ! I came from the doctor gilbert blog. I didn't know you were an animation student ! That is so cool !! That was one of the things I thought about studying after high school but I didn't know enough about it and went a different path. Can you tell us more about how being an animation student is ? What type of classes do you have ? What would you like to work on ? (if that's okay of course ^^)

Hey there!!

Yes, I started animation school this January and while it's very hectic, I'm absolutely having the time of my life ^^ !! It's something that I tried to go into after high school too, but when I realized my art skills were not up to par yet, I also chose a different route while continuing to work on art on the side! Took me two tries to finally get in, so if you ever decide to give it another shot, I say absolutely go for it! Never too late to shoot your shot and see where it takes you!

I will be posting my accepted portfolio pieces here soon, in case anyone was wondering what animation schools are looking for. And if anyone has any questions about the application process, I can try to give some general answers~! For now, more answers to questions under the cut:

The biggest thing about being an animation student is that it's very busy. My animation prof actually described animation as the medical school of the art field since the grind is just as gruelling. The workload has been heavy from the get go, there's typically an assignment due every week for all classes. If it's not finished pieces that's due, then you're expected to have a certain level of roughs done for in-class critique. My wall calendar and my agenda are my best friends for keeping deadlines in mind and helping me to prioritize which projects to do first because if I don't physically see my deadline written out in front of me, my brain can and WILL forget :')

Speaking of critique, that's the second thing: Critique is going to be a big part of your life as an animation student, or any kind of art student for that matter. You're expected to show your work in front of class and have the prof really pick it apart and show you how to improve your work! There are profs who give vague critique but thankfully all my profs so far have been amazing with critique, either by providing extremely detailed notes or by doing draw-overs on our roughs. And we also have TAs available for pre-class critiques if you find yourself stuck on a part of a project that's just not working. I can't speak for other programs in other schools, but in mine there's a lot of support which is awesome since it's such a work intensive program!

As for courses, I'm doing a full course load so I should have 8 courses. I'm only taking 6 since I transferred credits to cover my mandatory communications and electives courses for this sem! Right now I have:

Layout - environments, backgrounds, lots of perspective work. i thought i would hate this class the most since i don't draw backgrounds that often but i actually really enjoy it!

Character Design - lots of character studies, a big emphasis on staying on model and keeping your drawing consistent which has been personally challenging, but still fun!

Animation History - exactly what it says on the tin. getting in on a lot of the disney tea. i believe we're moving on to animation's role in wartime propaganda during ww2 which will be interesting

Animation - the actual animation course. i've posted a few of my assignments on here! lots of ball bounces, seaweed waves, pendulums, all the fundamentals. one of the most demanding courses in terms of time since you have to draw so many frames.

Storyboarding - MY LOVE. this is my actual favourite class. we're given a script and told to plot out our board to show how it's going to be seen on screen. boarding is also pretty intensive since depending on the way you want to show the action, you could easily end up with 60+ frames to draw out, but i love it so much.

Life Drawing - My beloved and beloathed, but so important to animation. the class that's hardest to do online because it's not easy to draw a model when you're looking at a small screen. life drawing profs, at least in my experience, also tend to be the toughest critics.

And I think I might have answered the last question already but I really, really love boarding and I think that's exactly what I want to go into after graduation. Would like to work on something along the lines of ATLA or finally bring one of the many personal projects that have been stewing on the backburner to life kjdjds.

I will also say that it can get very taxing mentally and it's easy to get overwhelmed by the sheer amount of projects you have on your plate. As crazy as the workload is, I've also learned that it's very important to schedule some downtime into my everyday, even if it's just taking an hour or two to walk away from whatever I'm working on and just meme around on discord or take a nap.
