After school programs available in Dallas
As the school year gets started again, parents may need to find an after school program that best suits their children’s needs, and in the Dallas area there are many options. Here are a few to consider:
Dallas Recreation Centers
After school programs are offered at 35 Recreation Centers across Dallas, and transportation is provided at select sites. All programs run from 3-6 pm, and rates vary depending on location. The program includes a healthy snack, homework assistance; along with other activities such as art, sports and games. Find more information here.
Dallas City Libraries
All library locations will provide a variety of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) programs, geared toward elementary school kids. 15 Locations will serve a Super Snack to kids and teens 18 and under, provided by Equal Heart. Check with your local branch. Find more information on the library’s website.
Community Development Block Grant programs at DISD and Rec Centers
The Community Development Block Grant is money provided by the federal government to the City of Dallas. Using a portion of this grant, the Park and Recreation Department can provide free after school programs for qualified children at 20 DISD schools and four rec centers. Children must be between ages 6-12, be a Dallas resident and be enrolled at a participating school to qualify. Preference for registration is given to low income and single female head of households.
