“Wait! Karen. Um.” Lisa wrings her hands and glances at her dad, who raises a brow. “I was wondering–I heard you say you don’t have Christmas plans. Dad is making a ham, and mashed potatoes and pie and everything. And I would–we would–like it if you came for dinner. To say thank you. And sorry. Please.” “Oh!” Karen pauses, glancing between the two as she watches the silent conversation their faces seem to be having. “Well, thank you Lisa. That’s very nice of you to offer, but I wouldn't want to intrude.” “You wouldn’t!” Lisa smiles pointedly at her dad. “Right, Dad?” The ensuing silence is deafening, and then Frank finally turns and smiles, looking awkward but not upset. “Hope you like lumpy mashed potatoes.”

Summary: The utter irony.

To be at a climate conference and have a storm descend upon the proceedings was perhaps poetic. To have the storm be intense enough to flood half the hotel and cut off transportation to the mainland was concerning.

But to have it all culminate in Henry having to share a room with Alex Claremont-Diaz was as if Mother Nature herself was having a laugh.

A gentle AU wherein there was only one bed.

Let’s kick this blog off with a lovely in-progress fic from @ninzied. It’s so good it drove me down a rabbit hole of their #kastle fics, which is my favorite ship right now. I’m not usually an AU kind of girl, but this one pays homage to the canon in just the right way. And if you like smut, well, this smut is fantastically written. Some smut you read and the writing is really distracting. This smut is what I aspire to when I write: transcendent, such that you’re there with the characters instead of outside with the author. 

A lovely fic that I very much recommend. Watch for the reblog of the final chapter (I’m not creepy enough to dig back into their posts for the first one).

Sharing a bit more of the age gap fic with an older, Senator Alex—as always, if this isn't your cup of tea, I fully support your right to make judicious use of the back button/keep scrolling rather than moralising at me. If, however, a greying and distinguished Alex and Henry's thirst for him is your thing, read on:

“You Googled me.” “I did.” Henry shrugs, unapologetic. “Your Wikipedia page is even longer than mine.” “Oh, my god.” Alex scrubs a hand through his hair, the sunlight catching on the silver strands. Henry itches to bury his fingers in them, wants to know what sort of noises Alex would make if Henry tugged on those curls. “Well, at least there are a few pictures on there of me in my prime, I guess.” Henry raises an eyebrow. “I would very much argue that you’re in your prime now.” Alex chokes on a surprised laugh. “Your Royal Highness—” “Henry.”  “Henry.” Alex tips his head back as he closes his eyes, drawing an audible breath in through his nose. When he meets Henry’s gaze again, he’s clearly conflicted. “What is this, exactly?” Henry’s never shagged a sitting politician. Lots of politician’s sons, of course, and most likely plenty of future politicians as well, but never a sitting politician, whether of this country or any other country. He’s suddenly, viscerally aware that he could change that; that Alex might actually be receptive to him changing that. That this isn’t all in his head, or one-sided. He leans in, the three or so inches he has on Alex suddenly seeming like a lot more, and he’s rewarded with a hitched, shaky breath he’s not sure Alex is aware he’s let loose. “On this side of the pond we call it flirting, darling.”

Henry’s mouth tightens, pinching in at the corner. “That’s… not why I refused to work with you, Alex.” “Oh yeah? Enlighten me, then.” Henry is silent for a long while, staring at their linked hands. “That mission was one of my first solo operations,” he says when he speaks again, “and I was under an immense amount of pressure from my— from MI6 high command. And I saw you there, a young, brilliant CIA officer at the top of his game, and I thought”—his voice breaks, and he clears his throat, squeezing his eyes shut—“I thought, this is a man who could utterly ruin me. I knew that I had to do whatever was necessary to keep you as far away as possible.” Alex opens his mouth and closes it again, frowning. “What the fuck does that mean? We’re supposed to be allies. Why would I ruin you?” Alex isn’t expecting him to laugh, low and humorless. “Don’t you get it, Alex?” Henry asks, a flicker of fire in his eyes for the first time in hours. “This life we lead… everything is in service to our agencies, our countries. We change identities like clothes, shoving ourselves and our hopes and desires so deep down they’re almost lost entirely. We don’t get to have things for ourselves, don’t even get to want, but I— I wanted.” He closes his eyes and exhales heavily. “Lord help me, I wanted you.”
