What we are doing is absolutely not taught in college. If you follow me, you know I’m a fan of big thinking but breaking it all down into 2 year increments. Anything longer is hard on the brain to be productive. The world changes too much. I run 3 successful small businesses with various product lines. There isn’t a single thing in college or MBA school that taught me to do what I do now. Why college when all information is free and accessible in an instant? One answer: To learn how to think. Choose teachers, not classes. Choose interests, not majors. Choose to do personal projects that have nothing to do with a grade, but make a difference to others. I graduated college in Dec. 2004. FB was released to the public in Feb. 2004. Youtube came out Feb. 2005. Twitter came out July 2006. Instagram came out publicly about 2010. There was no way to communicate with tens of thousands of people at one time, every day, like I do now. There was no way to reach freelancers globally. There was no way to work from home or on the road effectively. There was no way to talk to anyone, anywhere, effectively with a text or FaceTime. Guys…this era is the dream of generations! Don’t get lost on the fun toys of Tech…look for ways to make it be productive AND fun. 😉 A time when the work (any work) is ushered with the speed of light practically compared to even 100 years ago. Can you imagine life in your country in 1918? A recent article reads, “Facebook admits that social media can be bad for you.” Why would Facebook publish that? They didn’t. It’s a lie by media looking for clicks. Want to know it actually says? FB newsroom: “The bad: In general, when people spend a lot of time passively consuming information — reading but not interacting with people — they report feeling worse afterward.” “The good: On the other hand, actively interacting with people — especially sharing messages, posts and comments with close friends and reminiscing about past interactions — is linked to improvements in well-being.” Isn’t this true to life? On a tiny Greek island called Naxos. Tons of ancient history and artifacts back to 2800bc all the way to Greek and Roman eras. Behind me is a remnant from the Apollo Temple. Been running around with @lincoln.norton and @cardonnorton here. 🐙 Today we found museums with everything out and about that are thousands of years old. Stuff should be white glove only. We ran around a castle and this temple on a separate Tony island you can walk to in he picture, took naps and fortnite breaks, ate, went to the beach and body surfed, swam in the pool twice and went to an outdoor movie theater and watched Oceans 8 (they even had an intermission!). 🐙 I’m currently sitting at a closed, outside restaurant poaching their Internet at 12:22am. @natalienorton and @raleighnorton just got to Athens from their yacht trip and I’m thinking Nat and so will meet up on another Greek island called Mykonos while Raleigh does another week with his friends on the sea or whatever. Travel is oxygen for the soul. 2019 told me what to do. 2020 is go time. Here’s the 34 major stops I made in 2019. (SWIPE!). Surfed with my kids at Sunset Beach into the sunset the other day. @natalienorton watched from shore, but it’s a far paddle to the break so it’s hard to see. A full rainbow framed the mountains behind her. Amazing. The sets were big. Like big enough to hold you down long enough that you would almost throw up. It started to rain. Like almost torrential. The waves looked cool in the wind. Like waves within waves. I can only describe the experience like we were inside a snow globe of rain. The sky got all shook up and the crescent moon disappeared behind a giant brush stroke of pink and purple rainbow rain. The sun got covered by the clouds but it shown through like a giant full moon. Smiles couldn’t be wiped from anyone’s face in the line up. Water on top. Water everywhere. So rad. So colorful. So good. Love my fam. Walking home. Showering off in the backyard. Looking at the shadowy silhouetting palm trees with the pink and purple backdrop. Can’t believe this is a daily occurrence. People tell me when they travel with me that i state the obvious and appreciate the little things and get overly pumped about it. I guess it’s true. Ironically, someone has to point that out to me. When you go to a nice hotel...and go to the pool...and eat at the bar...you get looks if you have kids. I look back confidently, “Yeah, I’m THAT guy. I bring children to your secret lair to destroy it.” It wasn’t really that bad, but this place only has...NINE ROOMS. So...exclusive. Hahah! Actually everyone was cool, but even the boys felt the eyes and mentioned it. ⁣ ⁣ I taught them that when you feel uncomfortable because you’re not 32-52 and single with your shirt off and taking selfies alone with a selfie stick and trying to hook up (just joking... I didn’t say that...and I took more pictures than they did...but that was the vibe and there is nothing wrong with that either...it’s just more foreign to my kids than chillen with locals in Barcelona)...⁣ ⁣ ...what I did teach them is that when you feel uncomfortable it doesn’t mean you have to leave. ⁣ ⁣ You have to get comfortable feeling uncomfortable. ⁣ ⁣ There are way too many adults scared to go anywhere they haven’t been or do anything important because they feel uncomfortable. ⁣ ⁣ Tragic. ⁣ ⁣ If we want confident kids, we have to teach them how to be comfortable when they are uncomfortable....then we’ll have confident adults that raise confident children. ⁣ ⁣ Building confidence means LITERALLY going outside the comfort zone. ⁣ ⁣ All is well. We had a blast. Kids hopped in the pool with me and the the cool crowd with Greek 🍸 and now I’m sure they’ll feel comfortable in other uncomfortable situations. ⁣ ⁣ Confidence is about respect for self and others. Peyto Lake, Banff, Canada. Climbed to this point on crutches. I used them as ice pics. I was slowing walking back and I told the family to go ahead and get the car. I got lost. Imagined myself dying in the snow. Hahah!! They found me in the car but at a point where cars can’t go cause they closed the roads because of the ice. Hahaha!! There was a time I thought I’d never be the same after I broke my ankle, but guess what. It’s all good now. Just takes time. Someone messaged me today with a very sad story and asked me what they should do. I don’t know what they should do. I told them I’ve learned that life is a tunnel, not a cave...and to keep walking. ⁣ ⁣ Here are some thing I’ve learned about walking when life feels broken (so your tunnel doesn’t become a self-inflicted cave): ⁣ 1. To crush fear doesn't mean you eliminate it; crushing fear means you literally crush it down into smaller, more manageable parts and tackle one piece at a time.⁣ ⁣ 2. Overcome the prideful need to measure your worth by how much more successful you are than others, by operating from a core belief grounded in abundance.⁣ ⁣ 3. The pursuit of prosperity shouldn't stop you from the pursuit of happiness.⁣ ⁣ 4.
