Presentado originalmente el año 1957, y con inicio de producción el año siguiente, el NSU Prinz es un modelo compacto, de 3.14M de largo, motor trasero, de 583 cc, 20 cv de potencia máxima, tracción trasera, comercializado en 3 series; la primera en versión base “l”; la “ll” definida de lujo y, la “lll”, dotada de mayor potencia, opciones de 23 cv.y 30 cv, respectivamente, y estrenada en 1960.

En 1961, arriba el Prinz 4, un modelo dotado de nueva carrocería, aumentada a 3.4M de largo. Su motorización, en tanto, era un 2 cilindros, 4 tiempos, de 635 cc, 36 cv, capaz de alcanzar los 120 Km/h. En 1963, el modelo adoptará una nueva motorización 996 (Prinz 1000), de 43 cv para la seria base, y de 70 cv, para las versiones TTS; además de opciones 1085 y 1177 cc. 

En Chile, la empresa Federic, ensamblará el modelo Prinz, en Arica, a partir del año 1961, con una partida inicial de “160” unidades. En específico, el año 1965, “480” NSU Prinz 4, de 635 cc, saldrán de las líneas de ensamblaje, las que se mantendrán en producción hasta el año 1968; estas últimas 996 cc (1966-1968).

NSU, empresa de origen alemán y que será adquirida por Volkswagen en 1969, pasará a formar parte de la naciente Audi-NSU-Auto Union.

EP4, 2023 (1971). Apprentices at Audi's Neckarsulm site are celebrating the 150th anniversary of the facility with an electric restomod based on the NSU Prinz 4 that was made by NSU Motorenwerke in the Neckarsulm factory from 1961 to 1973. Audi inherited the facility when Volkswagen took over NSU. The rear of the Prinz, where a 30hp 2-cylinder engine once powered the car, is now home to a 240 hp (176 kW) electric motor. It comes from a 2020 Audi e-tron and gets its power from a battery from the plug-in hybrid Audi Q7 TFSI e quattro. The battery is fitted under the front hood, where the NSU once had its fuel tank
