OUTER BANKS SEASON 4 - episode 1 fanscript

Hey, as an aspiring screenwriter I decided to write a script for what I would love to see in the next season. 

Feel free to take a look! If you like Outer Banks, angst and are also obsessed with where this story goes next give it a read!

A bit about my thought process for the script:

I really wanted to focus the episode on the Pogues and what life and their relationships look like after the time jump. The main theme of the script is the idea of coming home, back together as a family.

I felt like as many people turn 19/20, their friendships often grow apart and I thought the same might be true of the Pogues. The ceremony that is shown after the time jump at the end of season 3, celebrating their achievements is what brings them back together.

I also aimed to deal with the question of whether finding the gold would have brought them all the happiness they dreamed of, and also tried to reference the trauma that they all endured in a small way here or there. 

Anyway this is my first ever script so please be kind. 

I also didn’t want to delve into the Blackbeard plot, hence why this episode takes place over the few days leading up to and including the ceremony.

I tried to get as much of the characters voices in it as I could. 

Anyway, hopefully this feels like a warm hug to all of you who also missed the Pogues just being Pogues, and their relationships to each other away from the high stakes plot that drove Season 3 (as exciting as it was).

Also as a new writer I just wanted to do something more character focused than plot driven.

I’d love to see their first time, but honestly I’ll be happy if we get the implication with some heavy make outs (in good lighting preferably) and flirty banter because that’s quintessential friends to lovers and it’s what made me love them in the first place

No hard same, but im holding out hope 🤞 I felt like a lot of their interactions in s3 were pretty serious (although there was def still some quality flirting) and I want them to be happy/chill enough with each other that we get to see them being cute and banter-y. Also 100% cheers to "in good lighting" lmao bc they really did screw us over with the cabin kiss. Gods bless the gifmakers who have made do, you're all doing blessed work!!

Predictions on what OBX content we’re gonna get from Tudum on Saturday? 👀

So I feel like sending our Chase and advertising OBX for it means we’ll get a decent segment.

I think for starters we’ll get a ‘season 4 is now filming announcement’ probably why the offical account hasn’t dropped anything yet. I’m guessing they will drop a photoshoot on Insta after that. I think it will be something like their one last year where the main cast are in costume… probably done on this day

As for the other content. Way to early to get anything s4 related. I’ve seen people spec that we might get a deleted scene and I can see that as a real possibility. I would love to get like that’s s2 surfing scene, something fun and easy like that. I don’t think they would ever release those jiara kisses because it’s not canon compliant, that being said I would blow Jonas to get the footage of JJ and Kie kissing at his place in that lighting.

I could also see maybe getting some sort of montage of the previous seasons or recap or something. Which seems bonding because it’s shit we’ve seen a million times before ya know.

I think we’ll get something but it won’t be anything ground breaking

1. How many words have you written this year?

Answered this one in detail here! But published on ao3 is 83,341 and actually written this year is probably around 156,000.... which now that I think about it, that would mostly be from the summer to now because I didn't write very much during the first part of the year! The gc is truly the best motivation out there ❤️

7. If you use song lyrics, which artist’s songs did you pull from the most?

I don't really use lyrics when I'm writing tbh. But I did use a lyric for a title for the first time (can this be a real thing, can it?) - does that count?? It was obviously a Taylor lyric because I'm now obsessed 😂

12. How many WIP’s do you have in your docs for next year?

I think there are 4 things I'm actively working on... I'm gonna guess that they'll all carry into next year at this point! Plus I've probably got 5-6 half finished docs.... 4 or 5 jiara week prompts I never posted... some other random ideas... my docs are a becoming a bit of a mess lol.

17. Your favorite character to write this year?

Hm... I tend to gravitate to writing from Kiara’s POV but I've actually done a couple from JJ's now and while I don't think I'm an expert on his character by any stretch of the imagination, I do find it fun to try and slip into his mindset. It's can be a bit more challenging but rewarding!

28. Favorite work you wrote this year?

AH! I don't even know how to pick?! This is my first year writing and really immersing myself in the OBX fandom so everything I wrote really brought me to where I am now! If I had to choose, I think it would be similar to my answer of what work I'm most proud of - 'can't get you off my mind' or 'leave the lights up'. The S3 spec fic I wrote 'find my way back' was also such a unique experience - I had so many feelings after the teaser that I wrote, edited and posted that entire one shot in like three days. And 'i'll look after you' has a special place as my first attempt at a multi chap work. Wow this question has really highlighted my indecisive personality 😂 lmao

Romantic Comedy reader here! Yes I did finish it and thought it was super cute although I totally did not expect it to take a Covid turn lmao. I’m not sure how well the email segment of the novel would translate on screen and tbh I preferred the TNO setting to them in California. But a cute and fluffy read for sure! I’d give it an enthusiastic 3 out of 5 stars.

I would LOVE to see PDD in more projects (their movie was so funny!! they’ve got such an endearing quality as performers) and I really want to see Madelyn Cline in more projects, I think she’s super talented, also very endearing, and Glass Onion showed more of her range so I’ve been itching to see her in another good movie. So yeah, dream casting for sure.

Ok, and I think this kind of feeds in to me not liking how obvious it was that Danny’s character is Pete Davidson (whereas Sally had elements of like, Liz Lemon but ultimately she’s her own character) , but it also bugged me that he essentially ended up with Cazzie David when in reality is cheated on/broke up with Cazzie for Ariana. Honestly they should just give you or me the spec and we can revise accordingly 😂 I’d still want to see Danny and Annabel end up together, like George and Tess in 27 Dresses. I’ve thought so much about this haha

THE COVID TURN … I’ve read some books where authors preface it’s a modern world but an alternative universe because no COVID… it’s crazy to think authors have to say “warning: no COVID exists in this book” rather than the other way around¿ idk if that makes sense ANYWAYS

Enthusiastic 3 out of 5 is a mood. I am reading more books now that I’m done with grad school and Romantic Comedy was one of the firsts to get me back into reading, so I have if a 4 out of 5 on my Likewise app. I’ve got a long TBR list to get through and am hoping to experience some 5/5 would slay my boredom demons type of books lol (always open to recs and you seem to be on it!!)

Agree the email part would probs have to go along the lines of You’ve Got Mail, but it wouldn’t be as good as You’ve Got Mail bc the whole point of the movie was to have interspersed email convos… yeah, the more I think about it the email part probs couldn’t translate well to the big screen.

MORE PDD PROJECTS IN 2024 AND BEYOND; I think this is the most important thing I have to say lol. I couldn’t stay in it to win it with OBX for plot reasons, but acting-wise, she’s great and would love to see her do more 100%.

The Danny character also tickles my brain bc it’s like a combination of Pete and Colin Jost and idk how to feel either… but ig he didn’t end up with Annabel if we think about how Pete didn’t end up with Ariana?? From a writer’s POV, I think those side characters weren’t explored enough, especially for characters that had an immediate impact on the main character aka LETS REVISE
