My Highlights of AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2023
Tumblr media
Well it's time to open the door again as AEW and NJPW put on another big card PPV
Last year it was perhaps one of the best PPVs of the year, let's see how this one holds up
Spoilers for the Show
Zero Hour
Despy reluctant to participate in Chaos' Best Friendsery, including the hug
As much as I'd have loved it on the main card, it's such a big deal that AEW put Billie Starkz on a PPV show match, for a tournament, against Athena! And she held her ground
Also if you haven't been watching Athena on ROH, fix that she is practically the company's Ace
ELP's LED J A C K E T
It goes understated just how crisp both Stu and ELP are respectively, Stu never got much time because Dark Order are always set to lose while ELP is best known now for his chicanery but they are very good at the wrestling
BUSHI with the Venom half-mask
Hiromu and Cobb had a fun little mini-feud going in their match
Main Card
That fan's reaction from receiving a fistbump from Tanahashi
MJF's 'New Japan is an Indie' on his robes
The callback of using 'Coward' to goad Max against running away
And brothers, sisters and every other pronoun you declare; we ain't in Kansas, and we ain't in Chicago anymore Toto
I have my opinions on Punk, not all of them good, but I also know that AEW right now are sitting on a gold mine with these reactions to ol' CM Trunks
Also appreciate the Kojima lore to validate him being in the Owen, training in the Hart Dungeon is a good feather in your cap to use
The chop sell on the Barricade
For a man who quotes The Thing's catchphrase that's sure a lot of Hulk-isms there, brother
I am just gonna stop here and just win the whole lot of shithousery Punk is doing
Also a Stan Hansen reference in commentary, nice
Since they mentioned All Out I gotta gush about the fact that I got All In tickets, also I am intrigued with how they intend to book 2 PPVs on back to back weeks
Also how fucking lucky are we seeing Shibata in a wrestling ring this past year?
It should be scientifically studied how Garcia got that stupid dance over
Shibata and OC's handshake is meme potential I can see it
Red Shoes chant
JB finally snaps with the heel turn, that was a nasty lariat too
Eddie bringing back the 'Redeem Deez Nuts' shirt
Eddie vs Mox is still THAT FEUD
Claudio's opportunistic heel work was good here with him ducking Eddie, and taking cheap shots in front of Mox - who seems pretty reluctant about that
The Cinnabon Gone Bad being able to floor Ishii with a forearm, he knocked out ISHII, the stone pitbull, the man with no neck, the G1 bane of Kenneth Jerome Omega, and the mans just fucking decked him, I had to rewind just to watch that again like in the best way possible what the fuck?
And Hangman is still the top babyface of the company
I did not expect Eddie to save Mox from the Superkicks, that's muscle memory there
Super surprised that BCC, Shooter and Takeshita lost but it was kinda nice that Ishii got the pin
Excalibur vs Despy when?
Meaty DVD on the apron by Willow
Every time I hear it, I fucking love Elevated, top 10 modern entrance themes
It's been a hot minute since I've seen Ospreay whip out the shooting star while their opponent was on the ropes
I feel like Ospreay licking blood of his bicep was purely for his wife and the Ao3 community
Kenny empowered by the Canadian flag
The rope break unglued the crowd
OWA at 1!
Tiger Driver 91 Fucker Me!
KAZE NI NARE
Sammy has 'Brodie Forever' on his jacket which is nice
Joker Sting!?
You know, I would take a feud between Darby and Suzuki, you've got the daredevil and the man who dares the devil
Jericho 'tag me' Suzuki 'no'
Suzuki with the pose, man does what he wants
They went and got the Final Countdown for Bryan, Mr Tempest is going to the bank for this one
One of these days Okada's just gonna come out wearing Nick Jackson's attire that he's stolen and I wait for that day
Knowing in advance that Bryan fractured his right arm during this match gives me a lot more respect towards how much he did without it
Okada's dropkicks are absolutely picture perfect
Not only did Bryan beat Okada, he submitted Okada! Don't think anyone expected that
Conclusion
There were high expectations going into Forbidden Door, but if anyone tries to tell you that it's a 'two match card' feel free to slap them, because they'd probably jizz over the one Bloodline match per PPV and call it the best thing ever. This PPV had its downsides for sure, a lot of weak finishes - a couple maybe done due to injuries or Sting feeling a little loopy - so it didn't come out to its full potential, but it was still a really good night for wrestling.
I would still say in spite of everything it was still a success, but I also feel like AEW and New Japan need to consider making it a 2-Day event to fit more talent on the show, we still lacked names on AEW's side like FTR, HoB, Acclaimed, BCG (if they wanted to come on I'm not sure how Jay feels about using FD as a loophole), Miro, Ethan, Dark Order, PAC, Keith Lee, TNT Champion Christian I mean Luchasaurus, Wardlow, Samoa Joe, and names on NJPW's side like Bullet Club, GoD, Alex Zayne, Nagata, Team Filthy, Bishamon, Great O Khan, Toru Yano (let Yano and Mox face off you cowards!), Master Wato, and KUSHIDA, and this is not even bringing up all the women we could've used - which frankly, we should try to schedule an All-Women's crossover PPV with Stardom featuring DDT/TJPW, AEW/ROH and maybe even other companies' talents.
But I digress, a lot of match finishes were poor but a lot of the wrestling in matches were enjoyable, I had fun and we set up some new directions and potential rematches down the line.
Match of the Night: This is probably gonna be controversial to some but I felt that the 10 Man Tag was the best of the night. Omega/Ospreay and Okada/Danielson were really good, but they also took time to get going, and I do prefer a high-energy wrestling match to a slower technical bout. Best Attire: Tetsuya Naito, man looks like he stepped out of a masquerade party and since SANADA is just his 'regular guy' persona rather than the cold skull and we had no extended Omega attire he's really the only choice. Best Performance: I want to give it to Eddie for carrying the emotional weight of the 10-man, I also want to give it to Punk for being a proper shithouse to a mixed crowd, I also really want to give it to Danielson for wrestling a clinic with a fractured arm, but I do have to give it to Omega and Ospreay as a tie they wrestled their butts off Spot of the Night: As much as I still love Takeshita decking Ishii, it's Omega kicking out of the OWA at 1

New OC fan anon again. So I've been watching a lot of his indy matches. I love how more vocal he is in those matches (Baybee).
I really enjoyed his match against Claudio Castagnoli. I watched that one during my lunch break today. His match with Mox where he lost the title the first time broke my heart.
I need to find a way to watch AEW thru a streaming service since I do not have cable or satellite.
The issue I'm running into with a lot of the AEW content is that it's not the full matches. Or it's a fan cam so you miss a lot of the action.
It's so weird that I hadn't heard of him before since I've been a fan of Chuck Taylor for a while. I used to watch ROH way back in the day. Back before cm punk, Bryan Danielson, Kevin Steen, El Generico etc went to WWE.
But yes. I am down to chat about Orange Cassidy. I haven't been interested in wrestling in a long time, but I had heard Sting was retiring, so I started looking at his AEW matches. His "violent" encounter with Orange Cassidy was what caught my eye.
Who knew my all time favorite wrestler would lead me to find my new favorite wrestler. It's like his parting gift to me. 😆.
Thank you for the info.
OMG!!! 😭😭😭 i remember watching indie matches on youtube during lockdown and just falling deep into the rabbit hole. 😭😭😭 the nostalgia is getting me!
That shot of bloody orange after Mox takes the title from him? Devastating! 💔
I don’t have cable either.i stream it through Fite (or whatever it is called now) with a vpn. It’s convenient!
Speaking of your all time fav and new fav, we also have this gem! (I so badly wish it was the full thing for ya!)

𝐏𝐀𝐈𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐆: Adam Cole x OC, mentions of Seth Rollins x OC 𝐒𝐔𝐌𝐌𝐀𝐑𝐘: After nearly a decade of being the golden girl of WWE, Adaline Marin wants out. Their ring was no longer home, haunted by her first love and upon reaching her thirties, the face behind "Aspen Glory" wonders if the passion she once had was still ablaze. Instead, she gets sent down to NXT to join the Undisputed Era. The next three hundred and sixty-five days, all captured by cameras for the history books, become a year of revival, reinvention, and realization with her legacy at stake and a new flame from the past emerging. 𝐖𝐀𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆𝐒: All characters are referred to by their real life names (for the most part)
Tumblr media
CHAPTER TWO.
June 7th, 2019
There was always something about Florida that Adaline hated. It reminded her of her days stuck down in developmental, rotting away in that ugly FCW warehouse with a princess gimmick that got her nowhere. Realizing that this was her new home, as one of the currently most decorated talent in WWE's women's division, was like a punch to the gut. It wasn't supposed to be a downgrade, considering the heights that NXT had reached in recent times, but it sure as hell felt like that. Passing by new, unknown faces in the Performance Centre, who gawked at her veteran presence, made it feel like that. Young female talent coming up to her and telling her how much of an inspiration she was to them starting their careers felt like that.
"Yeah, it hurts a bit, but you have to look at the bigger picture." Mattias was the first one to welcome Adaline to NXT with open arms. "It's a fresh start and in all honesty, I trust the suits down here more than the suits up on top." Earlier in the day, he decided to play tour guide and show her around the main backstage area of the Full Sail taping location.
Adaline rolled her eyes. "They all suck." She tried her best to hide her disdain from day one, but being around Matt allowed her to let her guard down. He, of course, went through the same thing when Tyler Breeze was sent packing back to Winter Park after years on the main roster. However, she didn't expect such a twinkling look in his eyes, a hint of happiness in them, considering he was fresh off Takeover XXV on a title match.
Every NXT alumni spoke so fondly of their time down in the black and gold brand. Maybe a part of her always wondered what it would have been like to stay in Florida a little longer in 2012, instead of taking a cannonball into the formation of The Shield. It seemed like Adaline no longer had to wonder on what could've been.
Nothing felt right. She was wearing a stuffy formal outfit, or as close to formal as Adaline Marin could get. Wide legged dress pants and a strappy crop top, if Adaline wasn't going to pay her respects to Vincent Kennedy McMahon himself, there was no way she was going to force herself into anything "professional." In a way, it was almost her method of showing Hunter just how pissed off she was.
She was three months removed from main eventing Wrestlemania and out of nowhere, she's down at the PC with kids who don't know how to perform a suplex.
"Listen, you may be a little pissed off—" was the first thing that left his mouth and Adaline couldn't help but snort.
The last stop on Matt's tour was Hunter's office, where Adaline was schedule for an early morning meeting with him. It was about nine o'clock and she had barely escaped running into any of the other talent. Her debut was supposed to be kept under wraps and while it didn't hurt for a few people on the roster to learn about it, Adaline herself didn't want it to be spread around so soon.
Hunter gave her a pointed look. "We have big plans for you here."
"I sure hope so, because so did a certain other company." The shit eating grin on Adaline's face was more than a little disrespectful, but he wasn't even fazed. Her statement was nothing less than the truth. It was inevitable that other promotions came knocking on her door and had been planning to do so, as the expiry date of her time with WWE had been on the mind of many for months leading up to it.
"You won't regret re-signing, Adaline," he said, choosing to ignore her statement.
Adaline wanted to believe that she wasn't making a mistake, but after months off television and headaches surrounding her contract negotiations, a part of her thinks that she simply re-signed out of annoyance. They saw how well she did when she left for two years and they were afraid that Adaline was going to go and do the same with the three letter A named company looming over their nightmares. WWE was persistent and they promised her everything she wanted and more—only, she wasn't told that it was going to be at Full Sail University.
She forced herself to smile a bit. "Why so?" Adaline was hoping that she would find out what the meeting was for, sooner rather than later. After all, she'd yet to receive word of anything from the creative team and it felt like she was completely in the dark.
A soft whine indicated that Hunter's door was being creaked open. His eyes brightened at the new presence and the corner of his lips twitched upwards. Hunter then turned back to Adaline.
"This is why."
Slowly rotating her body, she raised an eyebrow at the sight. The four members of The Undisputed Era. Austin, Kyle, Bobby, and Christopher. None of them seemed to expect her either, as they stared back in confusion. It took Adaline a moment to put two and two together and when she did, the wind was knocked right out of her.
Nobody could argue with the facts: The Undisputed Era was one of the best things to come out of NXT in recent times. That was definitely saying something, considering the immense talent rumbling at the core of the brand and the stars that have shone after walking away from the shadows of Full Sail. But, that was the thing. Adaline wanted nothing to do with it or NXT. Her own words echoed in her head, what she had relayed to Trinity following her contract negotiations and hearing of the plans they had for her.
"I'm not some young upstart. My career isn't hanging on by a thread, scraping by for a second chance. I didn't just claw out of the indies, looking to prove myself under the bright lights. I've been here, Trin, and I don't need NXT. They surely don't need me."
This was also what she had sent Hunter over email, which he promptly ignored and instead sent her schedule for the week. He intentionally left out anything from the creative team and the upcoming plans for the taping. Looking at the mischievous glint in the King of King's eyes, Adaline realized why.
The first person to greet her was Kyle, whose lips immediately stretched out into a wide grin. "Addie!" He stepped forward and scooped her up from her seat into a bear hug.
For a moment, all of the irritation in Adaline's body washed away and she even let the giggle bubbling at the base of her throat escape. It'd been so long since she'd seen Kyle's goofy smile and his ginger hair. An old friend that she hadn't seen in a long time, even if they both technically worked under the same company. He was like unexpected sunshine after a week of clouds and her heart was wide open for it.
A second body joined Kyle's embrace and she didn't have to look up to know that it was Christopher.
Christopher had been in Adaline's life from very beginning. He was the one that yelled at her the loudest when she was a rookie at the ROH Dojo. When Colby couldn't join her on the west coast, Chris was her road buddy to every PWG show. He hosted her goodbye party when she signed with FCW in 2011 and kept in touch with her up until he finally joined WWE years later.
"No. Way." Christopher started, eyes wide.
She pulled away from the hug and proceeded to walk over to the other two members of Undisputed. Adaline politely greeted Bobby, pulling him into a quick hug. The two weren't as well acquainted, as their paths only briefly crossed in between Adaline leaving WWE and Bobby entering it. He was always nice to her, though, and she only ever heard good things about him through their many mutual friends. The world of wrestling was small and the same social circle ran throughout, no matter the promotion or country.
Then, there was Austin.
She always thought that his smile lit up an entire room, the way his eyes turned up to project nothing but pure angelic energy. He was dressed casually, in basketball shorts and a zip up—as the rest of the group was, it seemed like they had just arrived to the Full Sail arena—but, he made it look too good. Long hair pulled into a bun, so that his clear blue eyes were on full display. Austin was another man that Adaline shared many mutual friends with and their careers had surely intertwined countless of times on different wrestling promotion cards.
That was all Austin was supposed to be, until Japan happened. Very few words were exchanged between the two ever since, even after Austin's explosive Brooklyn debut in 2017 and Adaline's return six months later at the Rumble. They didn't talk unless they needed to, like when they awkwardly exchanged pleasantries at the last company Christmas party.
She nearly forgot about Hunter, who was pleased with what he was seeing. He leaned back into his leather chair, hands clasped together.
He said, "I'm guessing that we're all acquainted with Adaline?"
"Who isn't?" Kyle answered, with a small smirk playing on his face and a side eye towards Austin. The statement held more weight than what was at the surface and Adaline caught on to it, sending him a glare. Someone knew about their history.
Austin cleared his throat. "Hey," he finally greeted her, though his eyes shifted elsewhere, as if he wanted to be anywhere in the world except for that office.
She felt the exact same, but she managed to force a soft small. Keep it professional, realize where they were and why they were there. Her focus shifted to that and her anger towards NXT settled, even just for the slightest amount.
Interrupting them, Hunter grinned. "Good. Because she will be your fifth member of the Undisputed Era."
Adaline had obviously seen that one coming, but hearing it out loud, letting the actual words hit her, felt like she was being drowned. The boys, however, didn't seem to have a clue as to why they were being called in to the big boss man's office. Excitement flashed upon their faces, with the exception of Austin's shocked expression. Eyebrows raised, he contrasted greatly with Kyle's whooping and fist pumping in the air.
"No way," Bobby said, laughing in disbelief.
"Starting this week, Aspen Glory is a member of the NXT roster," Hunter began to explain. "We have very big plans for you five, a definite future in the title picture. We want the WWE Universe to take UE seriously and that starts with gold hanging off of all of your shoulders. What's a bigger statement than all of you dominating each of the title scenes?"
For the first time since the ink dried on her brand new contract, Adaline wanted to feel excited. However, she could feel Austin's looming presence behind her and it equipped her with an uneasy anchor in her stomach, along with the restlessness already settled down there. "You're putting titles on all of us?" Adaline managed to distract herself, sputtering out what she thought she had heard from Hunter.
"That's the plan—" The way all of the four men before Adaline crumbled into complete happiness made her heart wrench. "—for now. Nothing is certain here, but everyone has high hopes."
"Nothing is certain, huh?" Adaline mumbled under her breath, but no one heard her.
Hunter looked at her. "Hey, Marin?" he said. "We didn't fight for you for no reason. You weren't on the main event at Mania for no reason. That also means that you're not here for no reason."
Eventually, the five were excused from Hunter's office, leaving them to face each other outside in the hallway. Kyle was basically bouncing off the walls, Chris grinning from ear to ear, a fired up energy radiating off of Bobby, and Austin. . .well, he didn't look as upset as Adaline would have expected from him. She on the other hand, didn't know how to feel. She was with some of her closest friends in the world and she was just essentially promised a title run. But, being apart of a stable again? Being with Austin?
"Lunch on me, tomorrow. There's no other way to welcome Addie to Undisputed," Christopher announced.
Austin cleared his throat. "Uh, yeah, we have to go film some stuff for the Network now." He checked the time on his phone.
If this was how the next months, year, whatever it was going to be, were going to go with Austin, Adaline was sure she was going to end up smashing a steel chair against her head.
"Right. I have another meeting to get to, so. . ." she bit her lip, looking at her shoes.
Bobby grinned. "You're getting added to the official Undisputed group chat."
"She's gonna get sick of your dad memes, man," Kyle remarked, causing the entire group to chuckle.
They began walking together, out into another corridor. The atmosphere wasn't awkward and the tension was slightly alleviated.
"You settled down in the city, yet? I can't believe you didn't say anything," Christopher said, arms crossed.
"Not really, I was planning to do the rest of my packing today," she replied. "I was told to stay quiet about it. And, honestly, it hasn't really sunk in yet." This was said, as she passed by an enormous NXT banner hanging from the top of a doorframe and her eyes remained fixated on it.
Bobby said, "Then, tomorrow's a good day to catch up, since today's so busy. We'll probably get the scripts for the taping by then, too, so we can work stuff out and bounce around some ideas."
They all stopped at the end of the hallway, with Adaline and the men about to go their separate ways.
Adaline opened her mouth, unsure of what to say for a moment, before she pressed her lips together in a smile. "I know a lot of stuff has been going around about me and what I want." There was no way she was going to let the boys think that she didn't want to be with them, but it was inevitable with how high-profiled her negotiations had been and the heat she'd gotten backstage for complaining about being taken off TV. "But, in all honesty, I'm excited for this. I didn't expect it, but I know that it's only going to go uphill from here." She let it slowly spill out, unsure of how to word her thoughts. Her qualms with NXT were still present, but she didn't want it to bring down her new group.
"Hey, I'd be pissed if I were you, too, Ms. Main Event," Austin piped up and she was taken aback by it, not expecting him to talk any more than he had to. "But, you'll like this place. Trust me."
"We'll make sure of it," Christopher nudged her.
The five exchanged their goodbyes for the day, promising to stay in contact and that lunch details would be forwarded to Adaline. She felt a little bad, wondering if her addition to the group threw off any creative plans they had in mind, but they seemed open enough to having her join. She watched them begin to walk away and she, too, turned around.
The day had only begun and it already felt like a whirlwind. There were still dozens of boxes waiting for her to be unpacked in her new Orlando home and she groaned at the thought. Adaline just had to get through one more meeting and she could escape Full Sail, where there were already roster members beginning to arrive to film content for tomorrow's tapings. She wanted to flop onto her bed, the only thing she had set up, because tomorrow was a full day with a trip to the back to the PC and getting settled with the guys. She wished she had someone to help her, but even Trinity in Pensacola was hours away.
That's when it begun to sink in. Adaline was completely alone. Sure, she had friends living in the area, but they were constantly scattered all over the country for RAW and Smackdown loops. The only familiar faces were Matt and Curtis, along with some other friends that she had yet to see, but they weren't family in the sense that some of her other friends were. That's who they became when Adaline exhausted herself, immersed in road life for the past decade.
"Uh, Adaline?"
She spun around, surprised once again by Austin, as he jogged towards her. The rest of the group was gone and he returned on his own. She raised an eyebrow at him.
"Listen, I know we didn't really leave on the best foot in Japan and it's messed things up ever since I got here." Austin scratched the back of his neck. "But, since you're kind of stuck with me for who knows how long, it's probably best that we bury everything. For everything that happened, I'm sorry. Are we good?"
Adaline's eyes were wide. "Really?" She couldn't believe that stubborn Austin, the guy who never really was mature enough to own his mistakes out loud, went out of his way to clear the air. He would be the type of guy to beat around the bush or make up for things through his actions, but to apologize out loud?
"Really." He smiled, eyes turning up in the way that Adaline once fell for. That thought got stuck in her throat and she almost wanted to cry, but she blinked the emotions away hard enough. "You got us, Marin. It's been tough for you the past while, but the boys and I got your back."
Then, she began to realize that, maybe, she wasn't all alone. She didn't have to be unless she let herself. Adaline froze for a moment, before sticking out her hand. Austin, with a pleased expression on his face, took it and shook it gently, warmth radiating off of him.
"We're good."

oh we're talking ocs? what is ur favorite oc/universe to write about and/or what kind of music do ur ocs listen to ^---^
oh mick tysm such fun questions :)
I like writing all my oc universes and i do love most of my ocs :] its hard to pick a favorite... a lot of them are special to me in different ways so i would say my favorite depends on my mood
as of right now im writing CLNOE and WNA so theyre probably my favorite to write by default ... CSI and CUINH are both on hold bc i keep rewriting the beginnings =__= then idk where to start KOA orz
MUSIC TASTE !!!! (i never put much thought in this oh no im gonna just do main protags)
CUINH
Mark: errrg he is an old man so he probably enjoys older music especially rock or maybe country =__= BUT if one of his kids young friends (like Riley or Spencer) puts music on he wont complain, hes not picky [mumford&sons, dolly parton, queen]
Riley: modern pop music (esp various asian pop) or heavy metal, no inbetween. has the ability to fall asleep to anything [paramore, MNL48, babymetal]
CSI
Tracy: probably has the most music variety of all my ocs; listens to basically anything + always sings along (if hes alone) [AJJ, flumpool, gorillaz, decemberists, thao&the get down stay down, etc literally anything]
CLNOE
Sin: okay music is weird in CLNOE so im just gonna say he enjoys like indie, rock, or blues music but hes not picky bc he'll take what he can get. [jesus idk queen, decemberists, nina simone]
Somchai: jazz or classical; almost only ever listens to instrumental music but occasionally listens to hip hop [literally idk sorry somchai]
KOA
Connie: music also is weird in KOA uhhhh anything w happy lyrics i will say and nothing too loud [errrrrrrr uh ig no specific bands just specific songs so idk]
Kubo: christ idk uh alternative or indie stuff [regina spektor, thao]
317: errr nothing too loud i think but still fun [insert smth here sorry KOA crew]
WNA
Carrion: ruh roh [AJJ, crywank, pat the bunny, thao, shonan no kaze, mother mother but only their good songs] sorry he like rarely listens to music + again music works weird in WNA so . probably instrumental stuff too, no specific genre

Hello, I always wanted to write, the thing is, English is my second language and I wasn't really confident in writing in English, but here we are, in case you can read in Spanish I have a Wattpad account with old One Shots heelstylerollins.
I mostly write for the wrestling fandom, WWE, AEW, ROH, NJPW and indies, currently obsessed with Orange Cassidy, so my works may be mostly about them.
To clarify, I only write m/f pairings with the female being the oc, meaning I don't write about ships.
Also I won't be writing about "main event level guys" as they already have enough material out there, guys like Seth Rollins, Jon Moxley, Roman Reigns won't be appearing in my writing or at least not as much.
I'll start posting soon, starting with Orange Cassidy. (Because I love him and have no control over my life because of him).
Hope you like my work!
Edit: I'm not really into Chris Brookes anymore, sorry!

Philadelphia and The Arena always had a special feel to it when it came to Ring of Honor. The city was the birthplace of the promotion yes, but it was also the city that always had open arms for the indy wrestling business.
The feeling of tonight though was something else, at least backstage.
Brenna had thought the previous show was electric, but tonight’s felt heavier than that.
Today was Adam’s last with Ring of Honor. His last TV taping, his last time in an ROH ring for who knew how long, maybe forever. His last night as a contracted wrestler for any company. That was only temporary, she knew, but it was still something. The PPV and leaving Bullet Club had been one thing, but Adam was walking away from a sure thing in his career entirely tonight.
While Adam was in talks with places, talks could always go wrong, and that could change his projected career path. But after tonight, he was a free agent, and he seemed excited about that actually. Having some time to truly do as he pleased, it was something he hadn’t had in years. There was an endpoint in sight, but it wasn’t set in stone. So for now, it was a chance to rest, recharge, rediscover his passion. Spend time with her, which she selfishly was going to demand the most of.
“So, what’s on your agenda for the night?” Nick inquired, bringing Brenna’s attention back to the table of her friends.
“Dark match for the second taping, then announcing the last two shows,” she answered before picking up her drink and taking a long gulp of water. “You guys are all coming to the house after right?”
Both Bucks nodded, as Adam sat back down at the table, having been off talking to someone in production.
It had been Adam’s idea to have a party at his house after the show. He had said he had two reasons for it: one, an opportunity to have everyone together one last time, and two, a way to put a positive spin on his last night so it wasn’t so bogged down in emotion.
For Brenna, it had only brought her stress. She was a planner, and she’d been running around crazy on their day off yesterday to get everything she felt they’d need for the occasion. Food, drinks, flatware, ice…. Adam deserved the best kind of sendoff, and she was going to do all she could to make it happen.
There was a good chance some of his family members were at his place right this moment, setting up, and putting up some decorations she’d gotten for the occasion. Adam had no idea about this, and she was hoping his brother had kept it that way. He was the most likely candidate to slip up.
“Try not to destroy my house tonight,” Adam requested of his friends as he joined the conversation. The Bucks barely reacted, whereas Marty laughed outright. Adam raised his eyebrows at this.
“I guess I’ll be in charge of good ol’ Party Boy here,” Brenna decided, nodding in Marty’s direction.
“I would be honored,” he replied, causing her to laugh.
Tonight was going to be a lot of things, a lot to work through, but as long as Brenna had the people at this table with her, and many others that were wandering around, everything would be fine.
~--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------~
Adam found himself standing in the gorilla area of the arena, his eyes focused on the monitor on the table. The Women of Honor match on the second show taping of the night wasn’t going to be televised, but it was happening in the arena.
And his girlfriend, for all her underrated talent and lack of mainstream exposure, was a big part of this match.
It was a tag affair, with Brenna taking on the tough baby-faced role, a role he hadn’t played in a long time. But she was so good at it, better than he ever was. She had a way about her in the ring, and equally, outside of it, that just drew people to her, made people support and believe in her, made people want to know her. Made people seek comfort from her, an opinion, an honest ear.
He had always felt he had a lot to learn from her, though he’d never told her as much.
He really should.
Watching as she did a perfect spinning roundhouse kick to her opponent made his chest swell with pride. That was his girlfriend out there kicking ass.
His girlfriend, who’d he see much less of in the ring live going forward. His girlfriend, who’d he’d see much less of period going forward most likely.
Even though there were no contracts signed at that moment, it was no secret what would probably happen within the next couple months with his career. He was hopeful, honestly, that things would stay on the path they were already on. But that meant it was unlikely he’d still be based in Pennsylvania.
Adam knew his decisions for his own career directly impacted her. For all her support and deflective statements, he knew that what he was doing mattered to Brenna. She could spend all day, until she was out of breath, telling him how much she only wanted the best for him, and he would still have his doubts. Not doubts about the fact she wanted the best for him, no, he trusted that. But that it was the only thing that mattered to her, that he didn’t believe.
He knew that if the roles were reversed, and he was staying on the indy scene for a long time and she was going off to do as she pleased, he would not be so calm and collected about it. They had gone through too much struggle, too much bullshit, for him to just say ‘OK, yep, you do that, and we’ll figure it out’. He needed her close.
Why was he leaving her then? Not leaving her, but he was putting a wrench in their lives and plans. Creating a less consistent contact for them to have. This was solely on him to be changing their lives. He felt selfish…because he was being selfish. He knew he had the right to advance his career, do what he saw fit for himself but still….
This wasn’t the first time he’d put wrestling above other things, and it probably wouldn’t the last. It wasn’t that other things didn’t matter or affect him. He just had such a drive for his career that it had always been a hard balance to make with other parts of his life, like family and relationships. Though, in fairness, he used to be a lot more reckless and self-seeking than he was being now. Before, he would have done what he thought was best for himself in the ring without any thought elsewhere. Before, he had let relationships in his life deteriorate as he chased his dreams.
Now, he wanted to know Brenna was OK with how things were, had to have her at least OK with things before he could advance with his ideas.
As he watched her get tagged in again, and immediately throw several elbows at her opponent, he started to think about what her life would be like with him gone.
He would be remiss if he didn’t acknowledge his eyes stinging a bit, as his thoughts ran away from him.
It wasn’t that he didn’t trust Brenna, or trust her position in their relationship. It was everyone else, life, the things that could happen to her or around her when he wasn’t there that worried him the most. For as much as he knew and respected her strength, he was still her boyfriend, and he had a place in protecting her and being close to support her at all times. He was really failing in that way by doing what he was.
Brenna was entirely capable of taking care of herself though, and he knew that. What if his being far away more than close-by made her realize how little she really needed him?
Getting Brenna to trust him, be with him, understand he only wanted to be good for her, had taken a lot of time. Would his leaving so soon in their relationship change her opinion of him?
He had worked so hard to make his feelings known to her, believed by her. When it came down to it, he was the reason someone she had once called upon in times of trouble was now the source of her trouble. That said a lot. Who was he to bail on her just when things were starting to settle and make sense and bring them both calm?
She had been through a big and tough loss, an unfortunate catalyst to their current status, if he was being honest. But he had told himself way back when he’d never hurt her if he could help it, would do anything he could to keep her happy. Leaving this company, this part of his life, it wasn’t making her happy, no matter what front she was putting up.
He hated himself at that moment. She didn’t deserve another big change to adjust to.
“Hey, don’t you have to get ready for your match?” Cody’s voice startled Adam. He hoped the man didn’t notice him taking a shaky breath, and blinking a few times, before looking towards him.
“You see any of this?” Adam questioned as a deflection, indicating with his head the match still going on.
“Not really. Bren doing alright?”
“She’s amazing, man,” he answered, his eyes already back on the small screen. He tried not to grin too stupidly as Brenna and her partner double-teamed their opponent, getting a near-fall.
“She has been for a long time,” Cody stated. “Brandi asked her to help her in the ring a bit, I think.”
“That would be good,” Adam said, only turning back to his groupmate when the ref was raising Brenna’s hand with her partner’s. When he faced Cody, he found the other man looking at him, almost curiously, though his face was fairly flat in appearance overall. “…what?”
“You sure about leaving her?”
“I’m not leaving her. We’re just…changing how things are.”
“Right,” Cody said, sounding entirely like he doubted Adam’s words. “Look, man, I’m not one to tell anyone how to live their life. Do what makes you happy. But it’s a lot harder being with WWE day in and day out, and it takes a bigger toll than you know. On you, on everyone around you. You’ve got a good thing with Bren. I don’t know that much, but I know that. Not being in the same place as her…especially with where you’re probably gonna land, it’s gonna be really tough. Just…keep that in mind, OK?”
Adam wanted to tell Cody he hadn’t signed a contract with WWE yet, so what did it matter in the grand scheme of things? Everything was hypothetical. But, he also recognized Cody had been down that road, been beaten up on that road. And Brandi had very famously followed her husband away from that place, showing the epitome of commitment to one’s significant other. He understood where Cody was coming from. He was just trying to save Adam from some struggle at best, and heartache at worst.
But couldn’t it work the other way too? What if Brenna eventually came to WWE too, if that was where Adam did go? What if this change made them stronger, any distance reaffirming their need for one another? What if Brenna famously followed him into something new and fun for both of them?
Anything was possible.
“Yea, I hear ya,” Adam finally responded, choosing to not further the conversation in any capacity, and simply accept the other man’s words. Cody nodded after a moment, before turning to walk down the hallway.
Adam decided to leave the gorilla area before Brenna made it backstage from the ring. He would rather see her later when he could be entirely focused on her, like she deserved. For now, he needed to go get ready for his own last hurrah. And if he was being truthful with himself, he wasn’t so sure he wouldn’t openly cry the second she was in his arms at this moment.
It was better to wait to see her.
~--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------~
The party was in full swing at Adam’s house in no time. Food was being continually made, all of the wrestlers needing a post-show meal. Drinks were flowing, and everyone seemed to be having a good time. Adam found himself always having someone to talk to, everyone wanting a chance to wish him well and have a laugh with him about some of his finer moments over the years.
He had found it easier to walk out of the arena earlier tonight than he had anticipated. It was hard, of course, but having done the big things on the PPV two days prior had taken away some of the sting of the situation. Honestly, he couldn’t have asked for a better ending to his current Ring of Honor career. The last match he’d done, a dark street fight against Marty, with the Bucks ringside, had felt right. Felt true to the story. Felt like he was leaving a legacy in a way with the company and The Bullet Club.
Of course, he still had other indy shows to tackle, and it was likely that the PWG show this upcoming weekend would bring another big wave of emotion to handle.
For now, though, he was really enjoying getting to share a beer with Cary, a father-figure in a lot of ways, and laugh over his Panama Playboy gimmick from yesteryear.
When the conversation had run its natural course, Adam did a lap to make sure everyone was getting on well and had what they needed. He went over to where the drinks were in various buckets and coolers on the side of the house, checking the situation. Some of them needed more ice, and he set about doing this.
“Hey.” Adam looked over his shoulder, realizing that the voice he’d thought was Jay’s…was, in fact, Jay’s. The older Briscoe was standing a few feet from him, hands shoved into his hoodie front pocket.
“…hey.” Adam had not at all expected to see either of the brothers at his house that night for the gathering. While he had extended the invitation to everyone in the back, he hadn’t anticipated his least-favorite-coworkers to show. He was immediately on guard.
“Need any help?”
“…I’ve got it,” Adam answered, dumping the ice bag into the cooler over top the beers he’d placed in there a few moments ago. He figured Jay must have been watching him to see when he didn’t have others around him, making it safe to approach.
Jay Briscoe was not dumb, no matter what kind of portrayal he put out of himself publicly.
“Look, I know we ain’t… I’m not your biggest fan, and you ain’t mine,” Jay stated. “But we got Bren in common. And…. We gotta do right by her.”
“That’s all I’ve been doing,” Adam responded tightly, crumpling up the now empty plastic bag and tossing it into the nearby trash bag.
“For now.”
“Fuck you.” There was no hesitation in his response, as he turned to fully face the other man. Jay wasn’t much bigger than Adam, maybe a bit broader in the shoulders, but that was about it. He wasn’t whatsoever intimated by the other man, especially knowing he was the one in the right.
“Fuck you, too,” Jay retorted with no reluctance himself. “You came outta nowhere, thinking you had any right to be involved in our family, and you didn’t. No one, no one, thinks it’s OK how you got with Bren.”
“…and what? You wanted me to what? Ask for your permission to date her? What are you, from the fucking Stone Age? Brenna is a human. She can make her own decisions.”
“She was messed up, going through some really tough shit, and you…you of all fucking people….” Jay just glared at the less-tattooed man, not finishing his thought.
“What? What did I of all fucking people do? Comfort her? Make her feel safe? Take care of her? Love her? I’m not fucking sorry.”
The silence that followed the moment allowed Adam to fully take stock of what he’d said.
Love.
Love.
Did he love Brenna?
They’d only been together really a couple months. Things had been entirely sideways in their relationship only a couple months before then. Despite how much she’d meant to him, and how poorly he’d went about handling those feelings, it was still a relationship in infancy. It was a bit soon for love, wasn’t it?
Was he just trying to get the better of Jay by saying it?
Fuck.
Brenna. She was…everything good he’d ever understood, that was true. She didn’t deserve to be a sticking point in an argument, a petty argument at that.
Jay seemed to just as much realize the declaration the younger man had made. And was just as quiet in response to it.
It was better to ignore the situation.
“Listen. If you just came here to start shit, then don’t bother, and leave. This bullshit isn’t going to make any of us better, and I’m not about to let Bren have to deal with it anymore.” Adam’s assertion was made in a fierce tone, a tone that Jay had honestly only heard once before. The time when he’d confronted Adam in a parking lot.
“No, you listen. That’s not… I’m not here for this back and forth bullshit,” Jay admitted, some of his intensity dissipating. He hadn’t come here for a fight, and he needed to remember that. He needed to make his original goal his mission.
“I just… you’re gonna be gone right?” Adam nodded briefly in agreement. “Then, I want Bren to know… With you not around as much, I wanna make sure she’s taken care of.”
“She’ll be fine. She has friends.”
It was clear what Adam was saying with emphasis on the last word, and both knew that. Friends. Friends that weren’t Jay. Friends that cared for her and didn’t judge her. Friends that wanted the best for her without question. Friends that didn’t start fights with her. Friends that accepted their relationship.
“I’m not sorry for being worried about her being with you. I ain’t ever gonna apologize for that,” Jay declared. “But…Bren…she’s headstrong, always has been. I know that and I gotta accept that. Appreciate that. So…I don’t…my history with her, it isn’t gone, and it’ll never be gone. I don’t have to be happy with her, but I can’t forget her.”
“Well you’ve done a pretty damn good job of forgetting her these last couple months,” Adam pointed out, crossing his arms over his chest. “She hasn’t once mentioned you, or you reaching out to make things better.”
“Two-way street, buddy.”
“What did you want from her, huh? To come crawling back to you, tell you she was sorry she was with me and you were right? You just fucking told me you respect her being strong. That strength isn’t just when you like it. Her strength right now is in refusing to let you control her and change her mind on something she believes in. And I’m glad that something is me.”
Adam watched as Jay became tenser, and squared his own shoulders in response. If this verbal disagreement was about to turn into a physical one, he was ready.
“…I hope you’re not this much of a prick to her,” Jay stated.
“Get the fuck out of my house.” Adam glared at the other man as he spoke. This conversation was over as far as he was concerned. While Jay had approached him with the best of intentions seemingly, it was clear he was still not over his own issues and bullshit opinions. Adam was tired of this conversation, and he had no desire to have Brenna have to deal with anything Jay Briscoe tonight either. “I said, get out. Go!”
“No,” Jay refused, crossing his own arms over his chest. “I am not leaving here until you understand where I’m coming from.”
“OH? It seems you’re coming from the place of being the fucking douche you’ve been being for a while. Brenna is better than this petty shit you’re throwing at us. She doesn’t need it or want it or deserve it. And I will NOT let you upset her tonight with this bullshit.” Adam paused for a moment, restraining himself from taking a step closer to the other man. “I will remove you from my house if I have to.”
Jay didn’t respond for a beat, instead cocking his head ever so much as he looked at Adam.
Adam waited for his next move, fully ready to fulfill his declarations and drag the man from the premises if had to. He knew he’d have backup in the matter if needed.
“…do me a favor,” Jay posed. “All this hate and anger, all this passion you have for Brenna’s wellbeing, don’t ever lose it.”
That was very much the last thing Adam expected to hear from Jay right then.
And Jay sticking out his hand for a shake, that was the last thing Adam expected to see.
“Be good to her. And I’ll make sure to do the same when you’re gone.”
It still didn’t seem real, and if questioned about it, Adam wouldn’t be able to explain why he slowly extended his own hand to take the other. Part of him just wanted the situation to be over, but another part of him….
He stayed on guard through the action, half-expecting Jay to pull him in and try to punch him still. Instead, Jay shook his hand, and then turned and walked away without further words.
Adam was still for a second, watching the retreating back of the elder Briscoe, before grabbing a beer from the nearby cooler.
He needed it.
~--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------~
Brenna was thoroughly enjoying her night. She was currently nursing a liquor drink and laughing with Corino and Kaz as they told her some ‘baby Adam’ stories she’d never heard before. She didn’t know where her significant other was at that moment, but she hoped he stayed away so she could continue to get blackmail material.
Eventually, she couldn’t ignore the chill that was starting to run through her body. Apparently, the long sleeve she was in, wasn’t enough, and she needed another layer. She excused herself from her friends, heading into the house and down to the bedroom. Digging around in Adam’s things, she took out one of his zip-ups and pulled it on, relishing in its size and Adam-ness.
When she came back down the hallway and into the kitchen, she came face to face with someone she had not expected to see.
“What are you doing here?”
“Shit, it’s good to see you too,” Jay replied, his eyes scanning over her, taking in her full appearance. Brenna tightened her hand at her side, trying to remember to not crush her cup in her other hand.
“Can’t say the same,” she snidely retorted. Brenna brushed passed him, heading back out the door into the backyard. She heard him follow after her.
“Yikes,” he stated, as he was able to use his much longer stride to pass by her. Brenna stopped walking as he stood in front of her, not really giving her a choice in her actions. “When did you get so callous?”
“Callous? Did someone buy you a thesaurus recently?” His jaw tightened and shifted. Brenna held her gaze with his, trying to keep her back as straight as she could. “Jay, if you’re here to cause shit, then just leave. Go. What’s happened is done and nothing’s changed.”
“I dunno bout that,” he said, causing her eyebrows to draw down ever so slightly. “Come on bug, just hear me out.”
“Don’t call me that.”
“A’ight, fine. Brenna, hear me out.” It took everything in her to not lash out at him. She rolled her shoulders back, before giving a small nod of her head. “I talked to Cole a little while ago.”
Her immediate thought was: bullshit. Except Jay looked entirely serious.
“You know, you’re gonna be out on the road, and he’s not. That ain’t gonna be easy.”
“You don’t say,” was her sarcastic response.
“Will you just fucking stop and listen to me?” She reluctantly bit back another retort. “Man, you’ve got this idea that you’re the only one who isn’t happy with how shit is, and you’re wrong. I get it, OK? We’re on bad terms. Shit, you think Mandy hasn’t been at me constantly over this?”
Hearing that his wife was unhappy with their situation was bittersweet. She had considered the woman a friend as well, and suddenly she realized in cutting out Jay she’d cut his better half out too, which was no fault of Mandy’s. Brenna had felt justified in this until now. Now she felt a bit bad, honestly.
“I get it, alright? I have to let you do what you want to do. But I don’t have to be happy about it.”
“You can be unhappy, but you don’t have to be a dick about it. You have no right to hate me for trying to be happy.”
“I don’t hate you. I hate what you’re doing.”
“OK. Sure. Because that distinction has been made oh so clear?” Brenna rolled her eyes. “Jay, I don’t wanna do this again. I can’t. So just…say what you feel you have to and leave me alone.”
“…do you know what I did after you called me to tell me Evan was gone?”
This was not the turn in the conversation Brenna saw coming. It wasn’t something she ever expected to talk about with Jay ever, honestly. All she could do in response was barely shrug.
“I cried,” he admitted.
Brenna didn’t know what to do with that information.
“You were so…I’d never heard you so hurt before. And I knew I couldn’t do anything to change it. And he was my friend too, ya know? We had a lot of good nights all out together. But knowing you were…you were so broken up…it was a fucking nightmare for me. … Ev always trusted me to watch out for ya, and I couldn’t do anything for you then.”
“I don’t want to talk about this,” she decided. “It doesn’t matter now.”
“Yea, it fucking does.” Jay waited to make sure she wasn’t about to scamper off and away from him. “It matters because I don’t think you realize how much you mean to me. I ain’t out here acting like I am just for fun. I’m trying to watch out for you.”
“Well, that’s a nice sentiment, but what you’re actually doing is making things worse for me.”
“Yea, I got that, I guess.” Jay paused, sighing. “Do I fully trust Cole? Hell no. But I don’t not trust him a little bit either. It’s been a couple months, you seem good. But a couple months isn’t that long. He can still be who I know he’s capable of bein’.”
“You don’t have to trust him,” Brenna allowed. “But don’t you trust me?”
“I always did.”
“The only thing stopping you now is you then. Fuck Jay, this is my life, my choices. I think I’m making really good ones honestly. I feel…OK, again. The best I’ve felt in a while. Adam is a huge part of that. And if for some insane reason it goes sour, then, that was my mistake to make.”
“I know… Look, this doesn’t fix it all, I know that. I said some stuff to Adam tonight too, just wanted to try to make the peace I guess. Just…when we’re out on the road, don’t… I’m around if you need something, a’ight?”
That was a Jay Briscoe apology if she ever heard one.
“…yea, alright.”
It was a shaky truce at best, and they both knew that. Time would be necessary to heal these wounds. But it seemed at least they were both willing to work through it out for now.
“Bug, I mean that,” Jay reiterated. “I’m not just…. You’re in for a lot, and I don’t…I want you to know you’re not just… It’ll be OK, OK?”
Brenna took some type of pleasure in watching Jay stumble over his words, struggle to convey what he was trying to mean.
“I knew that…before you said it,” she replied. “Momma ain’t raised no weakling.”
“No, that she certainly didn’t,” he laughed in agreement.
Brenna smiled at his laugh, feeling just the tiniest bit lighter. While Jay had a lot of ground to cover with her as far as getting her to trust and want him around again, it was a nice start to redemption for her.
Looking across the yard, her eyes caught Adam’s, as he stood talking with Matt and Nick. He looked thoroughly concerned but was clearly keeping himself from storming over to the pair. As a means to settle her clearly agitated boyfriend, she winked and smiled a bit.
Things were looking better, but what she really wanted to know was what Jay had said to Adam earlier. That would really matter in her outlook and future decisions.
What if I was made for you and you were made for me? What if this is it, what if it’s meant to be? What if I ain’t one of them fools just playin’ some game? What if I just pulled you close, what if I leaned in, And the stars line up and it’s our last first kiss? What if one of these days baby I’d go and change your name? What if I loved all these what ifs away?

what sort of friendships did imgoen develop during the indies?
( idk how to do this meme imma be honest but you ask some questions about my muses —— accepting )        : @kissmepretty
/ Well! I don’t know about stating names but she’s made friends with fellow wrestlers obviously, some mentor relationships and just regular friend relationships. Her indie career was from 2008 - 2011 and then briefly again 2012 - 2014. She had gone to places like ROH, Shimmer, out of the country to Europe ( unfortunately not Japan which kills her still ). Though from 2012 - 201, she had kept herself mostly in Shimmer ( and again at ROH sometimes since they are an affiliated brand ). So, I suppose in an effort to say some names, She’d know Cesaro, Kassius, Seth and the like. Mia Yim, Sara Del Rey, Saraya Knight, Candice and Ember. That’s just the names I can pop out right now but basically!!! You get the point!! And I think she’d know uh, some of the UK guys too because she went to Europe and such. Like not like Pete or Tyler you know, but def like Mark Andrews and Dahlia Black maybe others. SO !!! I guess that’s good in regards to names… lol ( I tried to purposely stick to wwe names and all )
And CHILL! also new york wrestling connection! where she met her ex-tag team partner but absolutely best friend in ALL verses @slahtiz‘s OC Sara Mendoza! They used to be called The Examples, it’s all very cute! She’d also prob know Tony Nese from there !! So !!!

Gifted Art: 🍋 by @sunshinejihyun — a spectacular art piece on Tyler and my new MC Indy, sharing lemonade in Sicily. This is such an amazing birthday gift. You’re probably tired of listening to me rant about Tyler, but it gave me this!
When Tyler asked Indy whether she want to go on vacation with him, Indy didn’t hesitate when she said yes. Nor did she mind when he asked if she was okay if he made all the arrangements. So when they arrived in Rome and within a few days made a slow trek to Sicily, Indy heart warmed knowing they find themselves in the small shop he once mentioned to her back in the villa. Of a lemonade that reminded him of home and how all he wanted was to find someone to share that moment with. And here they were, the both of them, Tyler staring at her as if she was the only one around. Indy smiling with tears in her eyes at the implications of the moment they were sharing. She was his person just as much as he was hers.

OC Profile
BASICS FULL NAME: Xenia Alanis Verga Drakos RING NAME: Nemesis NICKNAMES: close friends call her Nia, everyone else calls her Drakos if they don't know her or Xenia if they kinda do. On-screen she's called such things as 'The Diva of the Downfall' or 'The Olympus Offensive' by the commentators. She thinks those are pretty ostentatious, but blames it on her gimmick. AGE: 27 (born 13/10/1989, on a Friday, no less.) HOMETOWN/BILLED FROM: Portland, Oregon/Athens, Greece. ETHNICITY: Greek-American
PHYSICAL APPEARANCE ONE || TWO || THREE EYES: Golden brown HAIR: Wavy, reaches her mid-back. Naturally chocolate brown, but she's taken to dying it medium blonde. HEIGHT: 5'6'' WEIGHT: 125 lbs. SKIN: Fair olive, tans easily, a few small birthmarks here and there. BUILD: Athletic, light hourglass-shape, no dramatic curves. DISTINGUISHING FEATURES PIERCINGS: Ears; earlobes x 3 right + 2 and cartilage on left. (Not visible:)Inner upper lip; small smiley ring (with a frowning smiley face, 'cause that's sarcasm, y'know. ;) TATTOOS: Free from fear. ''πάθος μάθος'' ('páthos máthos'' - suffering is learning) on her ribs below her heart/left breast. She's planning to have the insides of both of her wrists done, as well as something below her right collarbone. PERSONALITY In-ring: Heel. Her persona is a slightly maniacal bitch whose only reason for doing what she's doing is “because I can”. She's a little sadistic, and doesn't necessarily just want to go for the gold, she also wants to get inside people's heads and slightly psyche them out to do so. Her strategy is mostly about never letting her opponents know exactly where she is at, mentally, and always wanting to surprise with new maneuvers. So, she’s a hard worker, she wants to be known for her ability, after all. Outside of the ring, she's a straight-forward person with the kind of attitude that “if you're nice to me, I'll be nice to you,” and that's all she really cares about. She hates drama, and dislikes having to analyze every single thing a person says. She prefers saying exactly what she means, and take the consequences, no matter which way it goes. She's not used to caring for people, but she's not cold-hearted, she just pretends to be. If she feels close enough to another person, she will open up, even though it's hard for her to do. Her past relationships have been messy and unsuccessful, and she has a hard time trusting people on a deep, emotional level. It's not that she doesn't want to, she just has not found anyone that's made her feel like she's entirely worthy of love, whether it be platonic or not. She's loyal until something breaks. Meaning she'll cut someone out of her life if she feels she's meaningless to them, or if she's scared they will emotionally hurt her. It's not that she despises everyone, she's just very reserved and skeptical. She can be fun. She's a special kind of fun, where it's not always easy to tell whether she's joking or not, and she has a bit of a twisted sense of humor. Not to the point where it will disgust anyone, just far enough that it makes her a little quirky. RANDOM STUFF - Born and raised in Portland, OR. - Speaks Greek fluently, and is proud of her heritage. - Her mother is a former actress. Her father is a theater producer. - Her family, while they do love each other, has never been very close. Her parents always worked, and never really took the time to spend with her. - She is closer to her father than her mother, always has been. It was her older brother (by two years) Dimitris (Dee Dee) who got her into wrestling when they were kids, and when they got older they started training together. He wrestles on the indie circuit. She keeps in touch with all her siblings, but is closest with Dee Dee. - She got her degree in criminal psychology while still in FCW. Just because. - She doesn't date, as a rule, but she has had a couple of romances. She might or might not talk about them. HABITS: If she swears or expresses herself in terms of endearment, she tends to do it in Greek. This goes for strong feelings, on either side of the spectrum. Her pre-match ritual includes drawing the letter 'alpha' on the inside of her right wrist (she doesn't know why she hasn't just tattooed it there already...) as a way of motivating herself, with it meaning 'the first' or 'number one'. Then she writes the latin numeral XIII on her left wrist, because despite her superstitious ways, she does not believe 13 means bad luck. WWE RELATED Was trained in ROH and later FCW (2008-2011) NXT (2011-2013) Official debut as a surprise entrant in the Divas' Royal Rumble 2013 Championship Scramble (yeah, I'm making stuff up, here.) She did not win, of course, but she made a splash as a rookie Diva with her aggressive, ruthless, slightly reckless style. Even though she’s been around for a while now, she still conciders herself to be a rookie, and even though her persona suggests otherwise, she respects almost everyone in the business. Went up to Raw later on in 2013 mainly as a singles competitor, but has been known to team up with those she deemed in need of it. She tends to side with the underdogs, but not exclusively. She chooses her alliances wisely, and mainly for her own gain. Went on hiatus from mid-2015 and returned in January 2017. THEME SONG Justice And Mercy by Flyleaf RING ATTIRE Nemesis FINISHERS Tough Luck – Swinging Neckbreaker The Verdict – Tilt-a-whirl headscissors into armbar Sirenia – Reverse Lou Thesz press WWE HISTORY Jerk Of The Month, March 2013 Championships; ROH Tag Team Champion w/Seth Rollins (in 2009, when they were known as Jade Cross and Tyler Black, respectively.) Insolence, Pt. 1 [Adam Cole]
So, here is my first wrestling fan fiction on Tumblr.
Let me know what you guys think!
Title: Insolence, Part One of ?
Characters: Adam Cole/OC(Brenna, because it’s easier for me to write with names in stories)
Genre: Angst-y?
Length: ~2,600 words
Warnings: Cursing, mention of death
Summary: You had a good life, with good friends, and happiness. Then things changed. You’re trying to rebuild your happiness, but it’s not going how you want it to.
You started your wrestling career in California, with promotions ranging from APW, which many didn’t even know about, to PWG, where you currently still ran around when possible. You had found your way out of California, to the mid-west and east coast, settling in to matches with AIW and DREAMWAVE and Beyond, among others. And that had led you to ROH, as a regular, as well. You were one of the in-ring announcers, and one of the first to demand a match when the opportunity arose.
Indy wrestling was the world you lived and breathed.
You’d made best friends along the way, such as Colt Cabana and Candice LeRae, Chuck Taylor and the Briscoes. And you’d made other close friends, and just friends in general. It was hard to be on the road with the same people and not become some type of weird-hybrid-friend-family. It was obvious that each other were all you had sometimes, and everyone found someone to be with while away from their loved ones.
You had a way of meeting people, and getting to know them where they were at. You knew better than to expect everyone to be the same, and you expected flaws and mistakes as happily as you accepted changes and successes. What mattered to you was what was at the core of a person; their heart and soul. If they had good intentions, but bad execution, you had no issue helping them figure out how to show the world their true objectives. You tried to be helpful without being intrusive or overbearing.
Having been around the wrestling community for a number of years, and being open to learning everything and anything from anyone who offered, you had a good head on your shoulders. You learned from your mistakes, and the mistakes you saw others make. You had sharpened your ability to think situations through before they happened; looking ahead was a big part of your personality. You liked to envision the pros and cons, the different paths choices could take you, and all the outcomes that could happen.
It was all of this that made it no surprise many found their way to you for advice and support, and a shoulder to cry on and a brain to pick. It was no wonder many called you “momma bear” on the road either.
And then things…changed.
You had been happily in a long-term relationship with your fiancé, Evan, since high school. He was the home you went to when you weren’t wrapped up in wrestling. He loved you, supported your wild dreams, and refused to let you settle for anything but your best. He was your best friend, your partner, your teammate. You learned how to share yourself with someone else because of him, and learned how to care for others because of him. When nothing else made sense, when your body hurt, and your brain had a million thoughts…he was peace.
So when he died, the result of a late night car accident where the other driver had one too many drinks and thought themselves invincible, everything stopped making sense. 9 years together, and he was gone. Just like that.
While you believed yourself a strong, independent woman, you realized very quickly that the partnership you had with Evan was what kept you stable in life. Yes, you could keep yourself alive, but he helped to keep you sane and sensible. He had been what you were to so many others on the road. He had been your sounding board, your secret keeper, and without him, you felt as though every feeling and thought and worry was just stuck inside of you.
Your friends tried, bless them, to fill his role.
Candice texted daily, even if it was just a cute picture of an otter or an invitation for a Disney songs Facetime singalong. She redid your makeup after ugly crying had washed it clean away. Chuck Taylor offered to get absolutely shit canned with you, more than once, and you, more than once, took him up on the offer. You knew there was laughter shared with him, but it was always blurry in the hangover the next day. Colt was quick for a joke, and just as quick to see through your smoke screen of a grieving-but-ok-widow. He was more apt to let you come to him with your worries and concerns though. Patience, surprisingly, was a strong suit of Colt Cabana.
Jay Briscoe…he wasn’t that way. He saw through your “bullshit”, as he said, and called you out on it regularly. Jay didn’t allow you to wallow and hide; he forced you to say your worst feelings and fears and thoughts to him. He had tough love down to a science, playing the big brother role to perfection. While you hated him for it sometimes, you also knew he was doing it because he cared. Because he saw you holding everything in, and it worried him what that would do to you. He was a friend that wasn’t going to let you slip away.
Which brought you to Adam Cole.
You had been friends many years, sharing many of the same locker rooms and sometimes rings together. The two of you had been in friend groups together before, grabbing food before the show or a beer after. You’d had conversations, sharing similar likes in some music, movies, and video games. He was by no means your best friend, but he was a good friend all the same. He was higher up on the list of people you’d hang out with on the road than most.
You had been involved in the infamous Guerilla Warefare match, which saw you, Candice, Joey Ryan, and Chris Hero taking on Adam, Roderick Strong, and the Young Bucks at PWG. While Candice had taken a thumbtack shoe to the face, which was rightfully so the biggest moment of the match, you had taken multiple big moves from Adam, including being thrown in to the crowd’s chairs as while as a piledriver on the ring apron. You had put your life in his hands, and he had delivered in all the right ways. You remembered being on such a high after that match. So had he.
But after Evan died, and through the ensuing months, Adam had pulled away.
At first you hadn’t really noticed, too involved in your grief, and trying to simply exist day to day. He had attended the funeral, having been a friend of Evan’s in the way all in the wrestling family had been. Evan had been at numerous shows over the years, and had been a part of many post-show beer outings, conversing with Adam on his own. It made sense then that Adam had sent you a couple texts, checking on you, though they tapered off quickly.
When you returned to the locker room a few months after the fact, while others had given you generic condolences or more personalized comments, Adam was just…there. He stood to the side while you were swept up in to separate hugs by each of the Young Bucks, each gently squeezing you to tell you they were happy to see you. Adam had just given you a brief smile, a quiet “good to see you”, before walking off.
He stayed distant after that. You worried that maybe you were giving off negative vibes. You had been hyper aware that coming back would be awkward for all involved. There was no handbook on how to handle the death of a friend or a coworker’s significant other, especially for wrestlers. You had played the “momma bear” role so well for so many years, and now you were the one in need of “mothering”, so to speak. No one had wanted to burden you with their issues knowing what yours were.
So you had taken all of the advice Jay had given you, about moving forward no matter how much it hurt, and trying to find the good in each day, to heart. You thought you were showing everyone you were going to be OK, and they didn’t need to tread on eggshells around you. You tried to remember to smile, to let yourself laugh. You were also learning to allow yourself to be the one who did need the mothering, and letting your emotions out to those you trusted most. You thought you were showing that you were getting on with life, in a good way.
Adam continued to be around but aloof though, so maybe you were wrong?
Except, it became clear the more shows you were back at that, you weren’t wrong. You were actually doing OK. As time passed, you were faking your inner-peace and strength less and less. You were genuinely beginning to move forward, allowing Evan’s death to be a part of you but not a controlling entity. Your laughter was real, and loud as ever. The locker room settled back in to a routine; jokes were shared, plans were made, and the unit seemed cohesive again. Life seemed to be settling back down in to some semblance of contentment.
So then why did Adam continue to keep you at arm’s length? It confused you, definitely. But it also irritated the hell out of you. Because he was no longer just quietly away from you, he had progressed to downright blatantly avoiding you.
More than once you had come in to a room, joined a group and conversation he was a part of, only for him to find an excuse to leave within minutes. He wasn’t even subtle about it. Adam was always a cocky bastard, sure, but he had never been so outwardly rude to you before. When he saw you in the hallways, he’d give you a blank stare, and often times change direction. The more this went on, the more it hurt. He no longer seemed just unsure what to say; he seemed like he didn’t want to talk to you at all. Like you had angered him, or hurt him, in some way.
You had become so fed up after one particular instance, where Adam had practically sneered at you asking Jay Lethal a question in front of him, that you had confronted one of his best friends Matt Jackson on the matter. Your gut wanted to confront Adam, but given his behavior, you figured you would get a blank stare and no answer. So his closest friend seemed a better route.
“You gotta ask him, girlie. I don’t even know,” was Matt’s response however, giving you a look that could have been sympathetic or annoyed, you weren’t sure, before walking off.
So after five months of being back, nine since Evan’s death, you had hit your breaking point. It wasn’t as though Adam and you had a huge falling out, or your friendship had just naturally, slowly come to a halt. He was still just as present, still just as involved with the same people you were, but only not involved with you, by his own obvious choice. You had no idea what you’d done to cause his behaviors, and it bothered you. You were not someone who liked actions without explanations.
It was after a match with Taeler, where the girl, try as she could, had botched multiple moves and genuinely risked your own well-being, that you finally exploded. You were in a corner of the arena, sitting on a table, holding an ice pack to the back of your neck, hating that you were on the verge of tears, when you saw him walking by. He was in jeans, a black pullover hoodie snug on his body, his hair tied in a low bun at the back of his neck.
If anyone asked you why you did it, you wouldn’t be able to give them a straight answer, but you removed the ice pack from your neck and with surprisingly good aim, hurled it at him, hitting him square in the lower back. Your anger had apparently put some speed on the projectile, because he visibly jolted at the impact, reaching around to put his hand where the object hit him to soothe the spot. Adam spun on his heels, looking around confused and quickly, trying to figure out what had hit him, how and why.
“What the hell?! …Brenna??” He looked confused, and angry, and also flinched slightly in pain when he took a step closer to you. You got some type of satisfaction from that.
“Fuck you, Adam Cole,” you declared angrily, sliding off the table you had been sitting on, advancing towards him. He appeared caught-off guard, not necessarily threatened by your approaching frame, but worried all the same.
“What the hell? What did you just throw at me? WHY did you fucking throw something at me?!”
“Because you’re a dick,” you declared. “I have done NOTHING to you, and you treat me like shit. And I’m tired of it! If you hate me, or whatever, fine, be that way. But at least fucking tell me what I did before brushing me away like I’m nothing. We were friends at one point, I thought.”
“What the FUCK are you going on about?” He retorted, his eyes narrowing slightly. “Did Taeler hit you a little too hard?”
“Don’t act ignorant,” you demanded. “Ever since I’ve been back, you’ve wanted nothing to do with me. I come in a room, you find a reason to leave. You basically refuse to talk to me, let alone be around me. Did you think I wouldn’t notice?” You squeezed your hands in fists at your sides, trying to keep the anger flowing, and the tears not. “Just fucking tell me why. Why can’t you even look at me anymore?”
“I’m looking at you right now, darlin’. And all I can see is you’ve lost your damn mind,” Adam stated, his tone dismissive, the cocky bastard side of him clearly now in conrol.
“FUCK. YOU,” you snarled, your voice echoing off the concrete walls.
“Hey, whoa, whoa, girlie,” Jay Briscoe seemingly swooped in from nowhere, putting a hand on your arm, placing himself to your side but in front of you a bit, a barrier between you and Adam. “What’s going on here?” He asked, looking at Adam, and not you.
“Your girl, is crazy,” Adam declared, his eyes still right with yours, but addressing Jay’s question. You could see the anger in Adam’s eyes, along with the tension in his clenched jaw.
“Have I said fuck you, yet?” You asked sarcastically, restraining yourself from also giving him the finger or, childishly, sticking out your tongue.
“Hey, if you want a hate fuck, all you need to do is ask,” he retorted, the arrogance in his tone overwhelming.
And that was enough. Your rage boiled over, and before anyone, including yourself really knew better, your hand connected with Adam’s face, your knuckles making impact right on his cheek. His head flew to the side, as you followed through in your swing. Your arm dropped down after the punch, and you stared at him, as he remained turned to the side, his eyes closed.
“BRENNA!” Jay exclaimed, grabbing you fully by the shoulders and shoving you back behind him now entirely. “What the hell kid!”
You didn’t have a response. You felt like you were watching someone else’s life through your eyes, as you looked around Jay’s side. You just stared at Adam, as he slowly seemed to come back to reality as well, both of you letting what had just happened sink in. He stood up straight again, reaching a hand up to press gingerly against his jaw, which he moved ever so slightly, assessing the damage. When his eyes opened, the blue in them was practically electric, and he quickly laid them on you.
The stare down between the two of your was tense, to say the least. Adam looked entirely pissed off, but he also seemed…something. Something that your two incidences of physical violence, and verbal lashing, had clearly made worse. And you were seething, hurt, confused.
“You want to know why I’ve avoided you?” Adam finally spoke, his tone so cold, so quiet, so controlled, it sent a chill into your heart. “This is why.”
After pausing for one second longer, he turned, and walked away from you, not once looking back. You were confused more than ever. And then you began to feel the pain in your knuckles.
UPDATE: So this did in fact get continued....and is still in progress.
