a samwell au where bitty isn't on the hockey team but still wants to keep in shape, and is having difficulty dragging himself out of bed to exercise before class. one day he sees a post in the samwell undergrad facebook group (written by someone whose name is just "Jack Z" and who has no profile pic, which is... maybe suspicious) stating that he's starting a 5a.m. running group, for serious athletes only. the post isn't phrased in a particularly inviting way, but bitty is desperate, so he signs up. perhaps unsurprisingly, he's the only one who does.

anyway. a vaguely dream-like au where bitty and jack form a two-person running group and only ever meet each other between 5 to 7 in the morning, when no one else is around. their social circles don't overlap. they don't have any classes together. in fact, by winter break, bitty's not even sure that jack is a real person who goes to his school.

So I am in search of a zimbits fic i read,,, maybe 6mos-1 yr ago.

Jack and Bitty get married within like 3 weeks of dating - it’s a running joke in the fic that the Zimmermen get married fast once they find their person - Bob and Alicia were married within two months, and there’s a bet going around on how long Jack and Bitty will take to get married (they already are but no one is telling) and the punch line of the fic is when they finally announce their marriage, Bob is gloating about getting married first and jack just goes “three weeks” and everyone goes quiet.

They pile into the back of his BMW, all limbs and boyish grins. Nursey can’t believe what’s happening. Can’t believe Dex is the one pushing him back into his the leather seats and twisting around to slam the door shut behind them. That he’s finally- finally - running hands through Dex’s ginger hair as soon as he crashes forward to kiss him. That Dex lets himself be pulled closer willingly, lets Nursey’s tongue press into his mouth and chase that reckless fire he constantly radiates like some sort of warning. Nursey has come to crave it in every conversation, every fight, every connection on the ice, every time they’ve found each other’s eyes across the room, every team breakfast or debate, every missed play, every celly; he searches for it now with his tongue, desperately chasing after Dex’s own.

After a minute or possibly forever (hard to tell), Nursey pulls away to catch his breath and Dex readjusts, pulling himself further up into Nursey’s space. Nursey feels a sharp pain in his side.

“Ouch, fuck Dex,” he hisses, pushing a freckled elbow out of his ribcage and shifting to try and make more room. Weirdly, it‘s almost like his backseats weren’t made to accommodate hooking up with his hockey partner— another grown ass, 200+lbs, NCAA athlete — in the middle of the night. Wildly, Nursey wonders what car he could get that would.

Dex huffs out a soft ‘my b’ as apology, and, oh, Nursey’s sure he’s never heard Dex sound like that. Like he’s praying in church or talking to something precious, like a puppy. Dex uses his new position to trace his lips across Nursey’s neck and Nursey immediately forgets to be salty about the elbowing.

“We would have had more room in the stupid linens closet,” Dex says, lips working up Nursey’s jawline. He sucks at Nursey’s neck, forsure leaving hickeys in his wake. Nursey likes the idea that Dex wants to stake his claim. He tilts his head to allow Dex more access.

Dex groans, “Fuck, Nurse, your fucking jawline kills me.”

And Nursey. Nursey feels like he’s dreaming. Like any minute he was wake up in his bunk at the house and Dex will be downstairs in the basement, and they’ll bicker about hangovers and who should drive who to practice tomorrow and Nursey will have to keep pretending.

But no— Dex is here. Dex likes Nursey’s jawline, kissing and sucking on it like he’s be waiting for permission. Dex isn’t going anywhere. The thought settles Nursey a bit.

Alright I get it,

The weather is (finally) warming up in the Samwell area and we're extremely pleased to announce that Madison & More, a new Check, Please! prompt fest, is now happening!!!

Here are some important details:

☀️The overall theme is Summertime, which could include Madison-based works (timely, since we figure Madison may be on people's minds now that the comic is appearing in mailboxes around the world now!), however prompts and works can be related to any characters or ships doing anything summery (hence the 'More' part of the fest name)!

☀️Prompting will open on AO3 beginning Monday, May 22nd at noon EDT. More on prompting guidelines will be posted here closer to that date!

☀️Prompts will be open for two weeks (until Monday, June 5th) at which point prompts may be claimed.

I know I keep dropping random au ideas everywhere like a trail of breadcrumbs, but listen, I just had this thought:

bitty is a single dad to a six-year-old kid. and this kid is, uh, bitty's kid? and therefore has big brown eyes and an adorable little nose and also killer adhd. it was honestly a constant battle to get them to work on their writing/reading skills through first grade.

but that summer the kid goes to summer camp for the first time, and comes back smiley and sun-burnt and telling bitty all about mr. z, who is apparently now one of their favorite people and also somehow got bitty's kid to sit down and read at camp. possibly by using magic, because bitty has certainly tried bribe before (to no avail).

so when bitty's kid begs him for help writing letters to mr. z over the school year... well. it's in bitty's best parenting interest to say yes, isn't it?

How are you liking Vegas? a reporter asks, spittle flying into Jack’s face.

Jack resists the urge to wipe it off, but it’s a near thing. He played twenty-three minutes tonight, scored twice, took four pills; even so, this guy looks about twice as sweaty as he is.

His eyes stick on the mismatched stitches in his jacket collar for so long that the idiot asks him the question again. He can’t remember what he says in response, but it’s either good enough or mean enough to get the guy to leave. If he were with it, he’d thank his parents for the years of media training to bail him out, or possibly for nothing at all.

The thing is, he’s never been held to anything less than perfection. It seems unfair that someone was allowed to enter the dressing room with scuffed shoes, after all he gave.

Hello, I just finished the Hat Trick Hearts series by SomewheresSword and ohhhhh my god, it was SO GOOD.

If you like PBJ and you like seeing these boys happy, I highly recommend this series. It's 463,312 words of them being in love and figuring out how that relationship works, both in private and in this heteronormative and monogamy focussed world, and it's very low on angst. It's not pure fluff, there's anxiety and homophobia and dealing with past hurt, but there's no manufactured angst in the relationship, just lots of love and comfort and actual communication! Especially once they get together, which I promise doesn't take too long.

The series is canon divergent from Epikegster, based on the premise that Bitty went to the 2010 Olympics as a figure skater and met (a very sad) Kent there. They became close friends, but only through phonecalls/skype/texting and somehow neither realised that Bitty's captain who he was crushing on was the same guy that Kent had been heartbroken about all these years. So when Kent shows up and sees them taking selfies together, the night goes very differently. Despite this divergence, the series still includes a lot of canon moments, before eventually moving past where the comic ends and folowing these boys for many more years.

I'll link to the fist fic, if the idea of commiting to the whole series is too daunting, you could technically just read this and have a satisfying (and happy) ending in about 90k words. Or just start here and enjoy the journey!
