@heroicsoftworks Godot’s workflow for online play is pretty straight forward and I think it is one of the better implementations I’ve seen, it can be pretty simple to implement but a lot of unexpected things can happen when doing online gameplay which isn’t really godot’s fault in this case.
For this project in particular it isn’t using the default stuff for godot, instead I’m using the rollback netcode plugin following this tutorial: https://www.snopekgames.com/course/rollback-netcode-godot
Setting it up is as simple as changing a few functions on a regular godot node, the problem comes with trying to keep things predictable so it doesn’t generate desynchronization across players.
If you’re thinking about making a online game with or without rollback, your main challenge is getting the 2 players connected which is outside of the godot scope, godot itself will handle things pretty well. To get 2 players connected on the other hand you will need to set up a server to create lobbies and then figure out who is actually simulating the gameplay. You can even set up a godot game as a server and let other people connect to it, it isn’t a bad choice either.
Also thanks a lot for asking! I will try to answer any specifics that this post didn’t cover.

Hiii I hope you're well! I saw your fighting games post, what's with Elephelt and what's XRD omg
Guilty Gear XRD Rev. 2 is the game that came before Strive in the series. Elphelt Valentine is a playable character in said game, and is rather popular because of her unique toolkit focused around guns and her bridal waifu aesthetic (see attached image).
Tumblr media
The reason I sorta jokingly said in the tags "don't play elphelt" is because she has a reputation for being *extremely* easy for just how powerful she is. All her normal buttons are very strong, and her specials are extremely oppressive and damaging. She gets compared to Street Fighter's Akuma (or Gouki, if you're pedantic) a lot, a character historically known for being sorta cheap. You can read about her here. Something you won't read about on her Dustloop page, however, is how many pro players often consider her to be the second best character in the game (behind Johnny, the rarely disputed best and one of the hardest characters in said game). While Japanese pros all consider her to be quite strong, Western players such as Romolla Deb and Kizzie Kay certainly agree shes #2. Tier placements are not something you should hold as absolute law, but they can be looked at as a way to gauge a character's relative power level if you're interested in finding someone to play.
Tumblr media
That being said, ultimately, there is no real reason you shouldn't play her. Like I said, she's easy and strong and has an aesthetic lots of people will find fun and appealing. She doesn't break the game in any way, she's just a good character. Who doesn't want to play a good character? While some folks with more experience in the game may find her annoying to play against, the tried and true mantra of Guilty Gear is "every character is annoying to play against except my own". Don't let people stop you or anyone else from playing a character they love.
Tumblr media
TL;DR: Elphelt is very strong while also being very easy. As a result, she has garnered a (admittedly rather deserved) reputation as an annoying character to play against. Play her anyway.

apparently according to bad, they are going to have to ROLLBACK the entire server meaning putting a full stop to the server and it WILL take a while. he’s currently trying to comfort the poor admin this happened to.
as a side note, this happened THE ONE DAY THE OWNER OF THE SERVER DECIDED TO LOG ON. I CANNOT IMAGINE HOW THE ADMINS MUST FEEL. like imagine the ONE DAY your boss decides to actually log on, THIS HAPPENS.
TURNS OUT THE ADMINS ARE CHECKING IT OUT (LIKELY IN PANIC) CAN YOU IMAGINE THE EGG ADMINS THAT WERE ONLINE, LIKE PEPITO, POMME AND RICHAS ALL JUST GOING “OH WHAT THE FUCK” like quackity just said “it could’ve been an admin mistake or a bug” MEANING MANS DOES NOT KNOW.

Hello. I am curious about the state of LGBT rights and healthcare in China. I think you are the kind of person who would recognise both the good and the bad parts, so if you are willing to, it'd be cool to have a bit of a rundown with links to relevant articles/reports? Thank you in advance.
Sure! Indeed, there are good and "bad" parts. "Bad" in that they're not ideal and/or needs improvement. In comparison to how these policies compare to the rollback of LGBT rights in the imperial core, no comparison need be made. One is, by far, significantly worse and getting worse by the day (here's an interesting map showing a comparison). The way I see it, there's two parts to the question. The first is one of social acceptance (e.g., personal bigotry). The second is of government and party policies. In that regard, there's areas where the state/party leads the people and areas where the people lead the state/party.
In terms of social acceptance, in my experience trans people are better (relative term) accepted than LGB people. There's a whole discussion to be had about gender roles, and specifically conformity, in modern Chinese society but I won't be doing that here. There's a definite generational divide between the socially progressive younger generations and the more conservative older generations. There's also a urban-rural divide as well, with urban areas leading rural ones. Generally, most of the discrimination you face will probably come from your family, statistically speaking (and also from personal experience). Despite this, there's quite a large LGBT scene in most major Chinese cities (I've heard ChongQing is a top spot).
On the state side, the courts will, generally, protect LGBT people. Notably a trans woman who was fired for being trans won a case against her employer. Sex education is also a step above what I received in the states. More clinics for trans youth (and adults) are popping up. All good steps in the right direction, but there's still a long road ahead. China doesn't yet recognize same-sex marriages nationally, though some cities do. Certain practices like conversion therapy isn't outlawed yet even though courts almost always rule against its use. There's still a general lack of access for gender affirming care for trans people and gender marker changes still require SRS and a gender dysphoria diagnosis.
Something I've been personally keeping my eye on is a move by the central gov to ban online sales of HRT. Here, opinion is divided; some say its a a step backward while others say its a safety measure (this is an ongoing debate in LGBT circles). The problem here is moreso with lack of official channels to access HRT. I do see the case for safety, but without offsetting the removal of third-party HRT with more official clinics there will present a supply and access issue. We shall see how this develops.
In short, I would describe LGBT+ rights in China as better than average (definitely more than where I live rn) and improving.

What if we kissed in front of Mao's portrait?
Supplemental material:
A) An op-ed by subject of the victims of Chen Weihua memorial foundation, Chen Weihua about LGBT rights (the man rarely misses).
B) A documentary about trans people across several generations.
C) CGTN documentary about LGBT people in China.

GETTING INTO GUILTY GEAR
so. you've heard about arcsystemworks Video's Game through the grape vine somehow. heres a fun little guide on how to get into it. first i'll go with the more accessible route:
LORE
this is the easiest part, in part thanks to arcsys actually putting effort towards the community to make it as digestible as possible!
the first thing to check out will be woolieversus' amazing heaven or hell series. as an officially endorsed AND reviewed video series by the writers themselves, this is the best way to learn about the games, as it goes through all little things like arcade modes in-game, external content from light novels or artbooks, and otherwise!
from here, you have a choice. after episode 4, he covers the story mode from guilty gear xrd: sign. however, you could also check out arcsys' guilty gear xrd: sign story mode playlist. this is a direct recording of the in-game story. while woolie summarizes it in 45 minutes, experiencing it for yourself may be more your style, if not a bit longer to put up with.
similarly, his xrd: revelator video, which covers arcade modes until 32:09, where he then covers the story mode, which has an official playlist here as an alternative. the final video also covers the ending of said story mode, and the extra stories added in revelator's dlc, which are also included in the playlist.
for guilty gear strive, you'll have to purchase the game itself OR find a youtube video to watch it's story mode, as arcsys has not posted that officially.
GAMES
if you're interested in PLAYING guilty gear, you've got three main options to go towards.
GUILTY GEAR XX ACCENT CORE PLUS R (yes, that's its real name.)
steam page ($14.99, goes on sale for as low as $2.99.)
the most recent version of the XX games, updated to use rollback netcode, and the last in the franchise to use 2d sprites. this game is THE classic anime fighter, in all the best and worst ways. movement and combos feel nearly unrestricted, but this also means the skill floor for understanding the game is incredibly difficult, especially with the lack of in-game tutorial, luckily, there's a reason its the fighting game community.
dustloop is the wiki for the gameplay side of arcsys games, guilty gear or otherwise, and WILL be your best friend. luckily, the wiki itself also has a starter guide specifically for new players to +r!
while the game has some of the craziest gameplay to come out of gear, due to its usually low price point, it also has a huge beginner playerbase, and if you look in the right places, you'll have a ton of people ready to get you on the right track.
GUILTY GEAR XRD: REV2 (fighting games had funny names for a while.)
steam page ($44.99, goes down to $11.99) it's confusing, but the one with all the characters is the third option down, "all-in-one (does not include optional DLCs). dont ask me.
this game is getting rollback soon! while as of writing this [october 16th 2022] it does not have it fully, a beta test is going to be run from the 17th to november 2nd.
xrd: rev2 (calling it xrd from here on) is if +r was streamlined but still allowed to keep some of its nonsense. it has one of the best tutorials in the fighting game business, teaching you through short minigames that allow you to understand movement, button layouts, and other basic fighting game ideas. even if you dont play the game with other people, the tutorial can help you understand gear in general, and fighting games as a whole! the game also has a wonderful 3d artstyle that mimics 2d animation impressively well, giving it a unique flair that no other game can compare to.
despite the online shortcomings, this is still my personal favorite gameplay wise. if you know some friends you can have a good connection with, or even better, someone to play offline with, this is a gem you shouldn't pass up. here's the dustloop page for the game.
GUILTY GEAR: STRIVE (did you know the name "strive" was chosen because it has IV, the roman numeral for 4, relating to it being the "fourth" guilty gear game?)
steam page ($39.99, $60 for the game and first season pass, $80 for all that and the still releasing season 2 pass!)
THIS is the one you've heard of. rollback netcode, beautiful 3d animation, and a much more simplified gameplay style in comparison to the rest of the franchise. as a first fighting game, i cannot recommend strive enough. while its tutorial is definitely lacking in comparison to xrd's, the overall feel of the game will ease you into fighting better and better opponents. strive is also currently one of, if not THE most popular fighting game currently, meaning there'll always be players online. with more content on the way including new characters and crossplay between playstation players!
here's the dustloop page.
while guilty gear is an absolutely massive franchise, with weird MOBA action game sequels, smash brothers spinoffs that are exclusive to the DS, and an almost 25 year old legacy, getting into it is easier than ever. so heaven or hell, let's rock.

Wanna get into fighting games? Can't really afford 'em? No problem.
I've seen a recent increase in the genre's popularity on Tumblr thanks to Guilty Gear: Strive (namely Bridget's reveal), but I've seen folks show concern for the genre's cost. While Strive may be outside of folks price range, that doesn't mean there aren't free or cheap entry points to the genre. (Every game listed below is easy to run on low end PC's, so don't worry if you're playing on a potato. Just remember to use an ethernet cable for the best possible connection!)
Melty Blood: Actress Again Current Code (MBAACC) has a unique reputation for its underground scene and playerbase, as well as its dynamic roster of 31 characters (each with 3 distinct versions, producing an effective roster of 93 characters). It's fast paced and has a simple control scheme and plays fairly similarly to the latest entry in the series, Melty Blood: Type Lumina. The best part is that it's absolutely free with rollback netcode thanks to efforts of the fanbase in the making of community edition. It's also where Neco Arc was first made playable, so if you find posts about her amusing, you can play her for 15 minutes and then move onto a real character.
Tumblr media
If you're not as interested in something less "anime" and want to try old arcade classics, then I can't recommend Fightcade more. Arcade emulator that lets you play online with anyone in the world with a solid connection thanks to rollback netcode. Classics such as Street Fighter III: Third Strike, King of Fighters '98, Vampire Savior: The Lord of Vampire (Darkstalkers 3, in the US), and many, many more are all available. Hell, you can even play non fighting games such as Metal Slug on it, too! Of course, it's just an emulator, so you'll have to acquire roms yourself somehow, but that's a legally gray area. Fightcade does not give you any roms, so it's legal. Sure would be convenient if there was some sort of extension that automatically grabbed game roms for you the instant you joined a fightcade lobby, though.
Tumblr media
If you're willing to drop a few bucks, then Steam isn't devoid of any good deals. Guilty Gear XX Accent Core +R (colloquially known as +R) is often on sale for just $3, and is a beloved entry in the Gear franchise. It's the game where Strive favorites Bridget, Testament, and Anji were last playable in, and maintain their original toolkits and playstyles. Not only that, but the game has some absolutely fantastic rollback netcode now! While it may be daunting at first, you'll find that most characters simplest bread and butter combos are easy and consistent. Low floor, high ceiling type of game.
Tumblr media
Another game often available for cheap on Steam with great netcode is The King of Fighters 2002 UM. KOF is a very popular series in Latin America and East Asia, but never really exploded in the US. Recent series entry KOFXV has made an impact, and it plays like many previous entries. '02 UM has a large roster of fantastic characters to build a team around. Pick 3 of your favorites and jump right in!
Tumblr media
A game you may already have (and not even know you do) Is Skullgirls. The game's often dirt cheap during sales, and has been included in more Humble Bundle's than any other game in the genre. Flexible, easy to learn systems, combined with a lovable roster of distinct characters gives you one of the best indie games ever made (and, personally, the best American made fighting game). Plus, after nearly a decade, the game is getting new characters again! There's never been a better time to start playing Skullgirls.
Tumblr media
Ultimately, the best game to play to get into the genre is the game you want to play in the first place. If you want to get into Strive, there's no better game to play than Strive. Same with any Street Fighter, Skullgirls, Melty Blood, etc. Don't let the high level players scare you, there's always going to be fellow new bloods to play against. Check your game's wiki to find relative socials such as a community Discord, many of which have focused beginner tournaments and play nights to meet new people around your skill level. Don't be afraid to ask questions! You'll get answers and feedback from more experienced and friendly players.
Also, small note, use whatever controller you're most comfortable with. Keyboard and gamepad are perfectly fine. You don't need to buy a $200+ fightstick. While they can be fun, they're an investment often not worth making. Many of high level players such as SonicFox use a gamepad exclusively for every game they play. Go do you.
