HEY DO YOU KNOW ABOUT THE ASSASSINATION OF A PROMINENT SIKH LEADER IN CANADA AND WHY THIS MATTERS?
I generally don't like to write current events-y stuff here, but since I'm not seeing any people talking about this in my corner of this hellsite, I figured I might as well.
DISCLAIMER: For the record, I'm part Punjabi, raised culturally Sikh in the United States, I don't actively practice Sikhism, and I'm writing this assuming a non-Sikh, non-Desi audience that knows little to nothing about Indian politics. I am trying to be as factually accurate as possible but if certain information is incorrect, I will correct this post because a) this is an ongoing issue so the information I have right now may not turn out to be correct and b) my memory is fallible and while I did try to fact-check the background information I remembered, many of these historical events have accounts that differ drastically from each other, so it is difficult to establish a definite truth. This post was written and last updated 25 September 2023.
So, the basic facts of what happened:
Hardeep Singh Nijjar was killed on 18 June 2023. He was a proponent of the Khalistan movement. In the past week or so, Canadian government officials have accused India of orchestrating his assassination.
Khalistan? What's That and Why Does It Matter?
Like quite a few things in Desi politics, the idea of Khalistan can be traced back to the Partition. At the heart of the Partition, the idea was that Pakistan is for the Muslims and India is for the Hindus.
However, India is not exclusively populated by Hindus, no matter how hard Modi and the BJP* try to make it a Hindu-only nation through their Hindu nationalist policies. Among other religious minority groups, many Sikhs had to made the new India their home, because of the religious persecution they would face in Pakistan. The Radcliffe Line (the line of partition) runs right through Punjab, the ancestral homeland of, among others, most Sikhs. In Punjab, during the Partition, Hindus, Sikhs, and Muslims carried out sectarian violence against each other.
What this means is that a lot of Sikhs were displace from their homeland and subjected to discrimination and violence based on their religion in both Pakistan and India. As a result, some members of the Sikh community started calling for a new nation to be carved out of the Punjab regions in Pakistan and India. This new nation was to be a Sikh nation, much like Pakistan for the Muslims and India for the Hindus, and it was to be called Khalistan.
(Little bit of anecdotal trivia: apparently identifying as Punjabi first and Indian second when describing ethnic background is more common among Punjabi Sikhs, due to Sikh efforts to show their connection to Punjabi in an attempt to make Khalistan a Sikh nation in the Punjabi region.)
Needless to say, the Indian government did not and does not like the idea of a Sikh nation and sees the idea of it as a terrorist threat.
*Bharatiya Janata Party, the Hindu nationalist party currently ruling over most of India.
Operation Blue Star and Indira Gandhi
As part of this rising call for a Sikh nation, Sikh militant groups sprung up. Indira Gandhi's government wanted to arrest one of the most prominent leaders of a Sikh militant movement. However, he and his supporters were holed up in the holiest site in Sikhism, the Golden Temple in Amritsar.
On one of the holiest days in Sikhism, the martyrdom day of Guru Arjan Dev, the Indian military began their attack on the Golden Temple, known as Operation Blue Star. Long story short, Sikh pilgrims were killed during both the fighting and in extrajudicial killings by the military afterwards.
In anger at how Gandhi's government had carried out Operation Blue Star, two of her Sikh bodyguards assassinated her. Anti-Sikh pogroms then occurred, with independent estimates of the number of Sikhs killed ranging from 8,000 to 17,000.
This only made tensions between the Sikh community and the Indian government worse; I see this as a defining moment in how the government of India responds to the Khalistan movement and both Sikh extremist violence and peaceful support.
Oh and did I mention yet that the Indian government has outlawed the Khalistan movement?
The law that does this dates back to 1967, by the way.
Hardeep Singh Nijjar
And so now we come to the story of the recently-assassinated Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
Due to Khalistani activism being outlawed in India, many Khalistani activists have settled abroad. This includes Nijjar, who became a Canadian citizen in 2007 and had first come to Canada to apply for asylum after having been arrested by the Indian police in connection with his pro-Khalistan stance. He continued his Sikh and Khalistani activism in Canada until he was killed in the parking lot of the gurdwara he belonged to by two masked gunmen.
The Canadian government recently alleged that the Indian government war involved in the killing of Nijjar, but has not yet provided firm evidence.
Why Does This Matter?
Obviously, as a culturally Sikh person, it matters to me because this assassination is part of a legacy of violence targeting my community due to perceived associations with terrorism. (Yes, there are some Sikh extremists and terrorists, but the overwhelming majority of Sikhs are neither extremists nor terrorists.)
But this has ramifications that everyone should care about.
Canada and India have recently done tit-for-tat diplomatic expulsions due to the Canadian government's allegations
The US may also get dragged into this because Canada alleged that American intelligence gave them some information necessary to prove the involvement of the India government
The UK may also get dragged into this because they, too, have a sizeable Punjabi Sikh community that includes multiple MPs and the government has historically had strong relationships with both Canada and India
Despite the BJP's involvement in anti-Muslim violence, Modi and his government still enjoy a cozy relationship with many Western nations; this may start to change, although change is unlikely as Western governments see being allied with India as key to countering Chinese influence
If India is proven to be behind the assassination, this could be bad for other Khalistani activists in the Sikh diaspora because it means the Indian government could potentially target and kill them, too
This is important. Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere, and this isn't an isolated incident. I know I probably didn't do a great job explaining this, but it's hard to summarize about 550 years of oppression and violence and politics and culture and how that has manifested over the past 80 years, leading to the murder of a prominent leader in the Sikh diaspora.
For further reading on this, I'd suggest this BBC article, which includes information on some other Khalistani activists recently killed.
Anyhow, I'll keep trying to follow the news on this and update this post as needed, likely through reblogs.

Do you support the khalistan movement
Personally, there's not really a simple yes or no answer to this regarding Khalistan - I'll keep it try to keep it basic though, I would like to see Punjab unified and left to govern itself...but this is coming from someone who does not currently live in Punjab, I'm an outsider, my opinion should not matter because it's not my life this effects in the grand scheme of things. Also, I don't believe India or Pakistan would ever let this happen. There's also still a lot of animosity since partition.

Indian diplomats threatened and blocked from attending an event at a Gurudwara in Glasgow.
Just as we stood up against irish separatist movement, we need to stand up against khalistan separatist movement.
There is no support for a separate sikh state in India. It is all engineered from foreign soil by pakistan sponsored terror groups that want to break up India.
Any group that uses terror and threats of violence to civilians, government officials & diplomats to further is acting in a cowardly manner and should be condemned.

Khalistan organization gave threat to burn the Indian flag on January 26
Tumblr media
In America, a Khalistan organization has warned of 'burning Indian flag'. This organization has said that it will burn this flag in front of the Indian Embassy building located in Washington DC on the occasion of Republic Day. The organization 'Sikh for Justice' has also sent an invitation to all its supporters to join this protest.
It is tragic that according to American law, such an event can not be stopped. The organization has requested the people in their invitation to demonstrate in a public park in front of the Indian Embassy located in Massachusetts Avenue in Washington, DC.
Khalistan organization said in its statement, "We will oppose Article 25 (b) of the Indian Constitution in which Sikhs are said to be Hindu." Significantly, the national flag is also dear to the Indians, and it is considered a criminal act to burn the nation's flag in India. But according to American law, doing so is not a crime. Apart from the 'first amendment' of the American Constitution, the 'rights' of burning or disrespecting the national flag of the protesters has also been protected.
Similarly, the U.S. Supreme Court twice has confirmed in 1989 and 1990 that the right to humiliate the American national flag also falls under a kind of freedom of expression. In the 1989 Texas vs. Johnson case, the U.S. Supreme Court declared the ban on the US flag being declared illegal.
The Indian government has often asked the American administration to stop anti-India demonstrations there, but every time from the US, the same answer is that these all come under the 'freedom of expression' under the American Constitution.
The Khalistan organization taking advantage of this legal path is preparing to perform anti-India demonstrations on the occasion of the 70th Republic Day of India. Sources in the Government of India say that they have already given information to many countries about this organization and its funding, and have expressed their concerns. This Khalistani organization advocates the alleged Kashmir movement while favoring Pakistan.
The US administration can not stop such a performance, even if it is in front of the Indian Embassy. But a statement from US President Donald Trump is interesting about this.
Donald Trump, tweeted on November 29, 2018, after being elected the president, "Nobody should have the right to burn the American flag, those who do so should punish them, strip their citizenship or take them Be put in jail for a year!
But at the moment, no law has been made in this regard. Now the concern of the Indian Embassy Administration is that the function of Republic Day will be dealt with efficiently without interference.

Hybrid Warfare: Indian APT Groups Building Large-Scale Phishing Campaigns
APT C-35 Indian Mercenaries As the unconventional methods of a multi-domain warfighting approach have been growing in the name of hybrid warfare, India is now sparing no efforts in targeting the domestic fault lines that encompass the political, social, economic, and religious factors.
Several Indian APT groups have now sped up collaboration on and executing scams, fraud, and large-scale targeted phishing campaigns to counter foreign attacks in the digital space. Such activities have brought a rise in overall hybrid warfare since every country is extensively pursuing it to destabilise, demoralise and disintegrate their core adversaries.
Due to its conflicting nature, Pakistan remains one of the biggest adversaries of India in South Asia. It has been blamed for not allowing regional peace and integration while escalating cyberwarfare with India. Since it has been linked with the Taliban at an international level, India has also radicalised militant groups in Pakistan and is supporting the dissidents in Baluchistan taking help from private actors.
Cyber risks in India exist both domestically and from foreign actors as the legal and regulatory framework to deal with this, still seems to be under process. As a result, the private actors are using cyber-attacks and subversion, disinformation campaigns, economic manipulation, proxies and insurgencies, diplomatic pressure, and military actions, to inflict harm to the adversaries rather than engaging in open hostilities.
Recently, it was reported that APT C-35 Indian mercenaries launched several phishing websites and mobile apps relating to Referendum 2020 as bait to target pro Khalistan Sikhs in India. The ransomware named “Sarbloh” was designed to target entities connected with farmers’ protests in India, with the hacker group titled Khalsa Cyber Fauj reported to be leading the attack in the country.
The Khalistan delusion makes an appearance every time the Sikh community is in news. It was in 2020 when the Macdonald-Laurier Institute (MLI) in its newest publication released “Khalistan: A Project of Pakistan,” report, which included brief research upon the entire Khalistan movement by Terry Milewski. The veteran journalist discovered that the movement was a geopolitical project nurtured by Pakistan, threatening the national security of both the Canadians and Indians.
Milewski added that the Khalistan movement was going nowhere in the Sikhs’ home state but instead was Pakistan’s continued campaign of agitation, after failed Kashmir project. To counter similar future attempts, India is aiming to slowly take control of Pakistan’s cyberspace. Several private actors have emerged to help India fulfil the objective over time. It has overall extended the idea of hybrid warfare against Pakistan.
Back in 2019, the EU DisinfoLab alleged an Indian firm – Srivastava Group for building 750+ fake media websites. In the recent report, it accused the network of resurrecting the dead scholars and propagating the false news in the international media. Domains related to topics for India Chronicles, namely Gilgit Baltistan (gilgitnews.net, gilgitpost.net, and gilgittimes.com), Khalistan (khalistan.eu, khalistanfm.net, and radiokhalistan.net), Balochistan (balochnews.com, balochistantoday.org and .net), and Maldives (maldivesaffairs.com, maldivescurrent.com) were also found.
Clearly, the mission has been to dominate cyberspace and isolate Pakistan internationally while countering nations in conflict with India in Asia.

K factor in the farmers protests
Tumblr media
Punjab has been in a peace zone and has been a blissful state for the past few decades, prior to the bloody phase the state went through the most part of the 70s, 80s and in the early 90s. Khalistani terrorists and the armed separatists unleashed a reign of terror in Punjab and in the neighboring states for close to three decades with the active support and involvement from the Pakistani establishment, read the ISI. It took several years and the precious lives of a sitting PM (Mrs Gandhi) and a sitting CM (Beant Singh) and scores of civilians, policemen and armed forces personnel before semblance of peace could be achieved on that front.
Punjab achieved the long awaited peace and harmony in the late 90s through the sustained efforts by the Police and the armed forces. A lot of credit goes to the then DGP of Police, KPS Gill who crushed the Khalistani militancy with an iron fist, but with greater difficulties. Khalistani terrorists were heavily funded & trained by the ISI and the Punjab police along with the armed forces had a long haul to curb them completely. Operation Bluestar on Bhindranwale, the subsequent killing of Mrs Gandhi and the Sikh riots would be watershed moments in the Indian history for time immemorial. The events led to the shaping up of a new approach to tackling the militancy in Punjab.
The decades after the turbulence, the state witnessed a relative peace and prosperity limping back to Punjab, though the Khalistani elements based abroad always nurtured and dreamed of a separate Khalistan state instead of Indian Punjab. Needless to say, the Pakistanis have been fueling the Khalistani fire for sometime now. The recently enacted farm laws seem to have given these rogue Khalistani elements a chance to take a shot on their long cherished dream of separate Khalistan. From the word go, the farm protests were conceived, conducted and executed by the Khalistani ideologues, both within and outside India. Some of the speeches by the Khalistani supporters on the farm laws are unequivocal about the realization of Khalistani dream. The ultimate message to India and the Indian government is - Farm laws are immaterial and they are just a tool to stoke separatist Khalistani movement.
So far, the government has been giving the protestors a very long rope and it has successfully unmasked the protestors on the 26th January, which will again go down as a watershed moment in the Indian history. Nevertheless, the government needs to act really tough on the Khalistani elements which are hiding behind the ‘so called’ farmers and trying to stoke separatism in the name of farmers protests. The tweets by Rihanna, Greta Thunberg and Mia Khalifa point towards a larger International conspiracy to stoke the separate Khalistani idea and in a way to destabilize the Indian idea. Canada based Khalistanis seem to be the prime suspects on stoking and fueling the unseemingly, unending farmers protests which are not based on data and facts, but largely on the rhetoric.
It's high time the government gets hard on the Khalistani elements who are within and outside India in substantial numbers. With the International dimension getting into the picture, the larger plans to destabilize Indian state seems to be the obvious motive of the International personalities who are hand in glove with the separatists. Canadian government led by its immature PM Justin Trudeau flirting on the Khalistani theme for the exchange of local political support from the Khalistanis is something worrisome and uncalled for.
A democratically elected PM in Canada fanning the separatist idea is something India should work on and take them to the relevant International fora. Pakistan's repeated attempts to stoke Khalistani separatism seems to have faded, but the recent protests have given them yet another chance to take on the dying idea. It's imperative that the government crushes the Khalistani elements right at the budding stage. A lesson for Pakistan and the Khalistanis is most needed in the present scenario. Not to forget the fact that the innocent and ordinary Punjabis are no longer interested in the separatist theme any more and are more than willing to demonstrate their allegiance to the unity and integrity of the country!

Soviet occupation of Afghanistan & the Kashmir Resurrection
Gen.Akhtar Abdur Rahman, who achieved what many, incld. Americans, thought was impossible. The man under whose leadership the Soviet superpower was beaten in the battlefield.

Excerpts from the book "Avoiding Armageddon: America, India, and Pakistan to the Brink and Back "by Bruce Riedel.
TAMPA, FLORIDA, USA — is a long way from South Asia, but in mid-2011 I was there to attend a conference on Pakistan at the headquarters of the U.S. Central Command as a guest of General David Petraeus, the U.S. commander in Afghanistan. I was to review Pakistan's role in supporting the Taliban movement in Afghanistan. Only twenty-Five years ago the United States had fought a war against the Soviets in Afghanistan with Pakistan's help. President Ronald Reagan enjoyed Pakistan's support and won the war. Now, in the twenty-first century, America and Pakistan are on opposite sides in the Afghan civil war. It's a lot harder to envision success.
In December 1979 the Soviets invaded Afghanistan. Zia immediately turned to Saudi Arabia for help and assistance and dispatched General Akhtar, his ISI Chief, to Riyadh with an urgent message for the king: Zia wanted Saudi assistance to strengthen the mujahedin, the anti-communist rebels in Afghanistan. According to Prince Turki, King Fahd agreed immediately, and the ISI and Turki's General Intelligence Directorate (GID) began cooperating to aid the mujahedin. In addition, the Saudi-Pakistani partnership would soon acquire another partner, the CIA. Zia also turned to Pakistan's other longtime ally, China, and China responded with arms and advisers.
Bill Casey, President Reagan's CIA Chief, traveled repeatedly to Islamabad. On his first visit, he was shown a map of Afghanistan with a red triangle superimposed on it, pointing in the direction of the Indian Ocean, just three hundred miles from the Afghan-Pakistani border. This map was shown to many subsequent visitors. Pakistan was the real battlefield and Moscow’s real objective was access to the Indian Ocean and the Persian Gulf, the Pakistanis believed. Zia and Akhtar were determined to keep Moscow from getting a warm-water port on the Indian Ocean. As Casey’s deputy for operations in Afghanistan would later recount, Zia and Akhtar were believers. Without them, there would have been no Afghan war, and no Afghan victory.
The ISI set up training camps along the Durand Line, and Afghans began learning more sophisticated tactics and skills to help them wage jihad. The ISI included instructors from Pakistan's own special forces, the Special Services Group (SSG), an elite fighting force within the army. Overall, the ISI trained at least 80,000 to 90,000 Afghans in its camps.
The Directorate General Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) grew during Zia's years. His handpicked choice for Director General in 1979 was a Pashtun, Akhtar Abdur Rahman, better known simply as General Akhtar. Akhtar was a gifted intelligence officer and knew the Afghan world. He developed close working ties to many of the Afghan mujahedin leaders and organized them into political parties to give more legitimacy to their struggle. Akhtar also built strong ISI links to the CIA and the Saudis. He was the first Director General of the ISI that I met with. Akhtar vastly expanded the size and strength of the service. According to one estimate, the ISI went from a staff of 2,000 in 1978 to 40,000 employees and a billion-dollar budget by 1988. It came to be seen in Pakistan as omnipotent, listening in on every phone call, planting informants in every village, city block, and public space. Politicians were on its payroll. As one of Akhtar's deputies would later say, "The ISI was and still is probably the most powerful and influential organization in the country"; he also remarked that Akhtar was "regarded with envy or fear," even by his fellow officers.
The ISI took outside help, money, and arms for Afghanistan but was very careful to control how and when the various mujahedin factions received those assets. The man who ran the operation for General Akhtar for much of the 1980s was Mohammad Yousaf, the chief of the ISI's Afghan bureau. His two accounts of the war, Silent Soldier: The Man behind the Afghan Jehad and The Bear Trap: Afghanistan's Untold Story, are the single best pieces on the war from the Pakistani perspective. He describes the pipeline for aid as follows: As soon as the arms arrived in Pakistan, the CIA's responsibility ended. From then on it was our pipeline, our organization that moved, allocated, and distributed every bullet that the CIA procured.
From the earliest days of the Afghan war, Zia and Akhtar were planning for the next stage of the jihad, turning east toward India and Kashmir. The war against the Soviets was to be used as a means to help build the base for a Kashmiri insurgency. In other words, the Afghan war with the Soviets would also be a training ground to build the cadres for another jihad, against India in Kashmir. Some of the American assistance that was earmarked for the Afghan jihad would be diverted to the Kashmiri project. A series of clandestine meetings took place between the ISI and Kashmiri militants from Indian-controlled Kashmir. For security reasons, many of the meetings were held in Saudi Arabia. Zia and General Akhtar were involved directly in the effort. Finally, in 1983 some Kashmiris began to receive training in the ISI's Afghan camps. The ISI also reached out to other groups in Kashmir, including the Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), which had been founded in 1977 in Birmingham, England, by Kashmiris living in the United Kingdom. At first it was reluctant to take ISI help, but Akhtar opened talks with the group in 1984, and by 1987 JKLF militants were attending the ISI training camps.
Zia and Aktrar also avidly supported another front in India, the Sikh independence movement, which wanted to create a Sikh state called Khalistan. Sikh grievances dated back to partition, when some Sikhs argued for a third state in South Asia for themselves. When their unrest peaked in the 1980s, Pakistan unsurprisingly became a patron of the Sikh independence movement. The Sikh rebellion came to a disastrous climax in June 1984, when activists rook control of the Golden Temple in Amritsar. Indira Gandhi ordered the Indian army to regain control, but Operation Blue Star turned into a fiasco, in part because the army underestimated the firepower of the militants. After a twenty-four-hour firefight, at least 500 soldiers, militants, and innocent victims were dead; some believe that the casualties were much higher. A low-level insurgency in the Punjab would continue for another decade. It would also take Mrs. Gandhi's life.
The largest supply depot for the ISI's war in Afghanistan was located just outside Rawalpindi at the Ojhri ammunition storage facility. On April 10, 1988, it was racked by a ripping series of massive explosions as 10,000 tons of arms and ammunition went up in smoke. More than 100 people died in the disaster, including five ISI officers. In 2012 two former Indian intelligence service officers told me that it was their agency that had sabotaged the facility, to punish Pakistan for helping the rebels in the Kashmiri and Sikh revolts.
On August 17, I988, Zia and Akhtar, who had by then been promoted to Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and several other senior Pakistani generals as well as the U.S. ambassador to Pakistan, Arnold Raphel, were killed when their C-130 aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff. Immediately suspicions of foul play surfaced. No one ever claimed responsibility, but there are dozens of conspiracy theories about what happened and why. Akhtar’s ISI biographer, Yousaf, concluded that “the KGB or KHAD (its Afghan counterpart) had been involved but that the Americans were eager to see Zia and Akhtar killed now that the jihad was almost over." John Gunther Dean, then the U.S. ambassador to India, accused the Israeli secret service, Mossad, of killing Zia, possibly to stop the Pakistani bomb program. In the most recent study, based on interviews with many of the Pakistani air force officers who investigated the crash, Shuja Nawaz concludes that “many questions still remain” about why the plane crashed and why the investigation of the crash was so incomplete. Like much else in Pakistan’s history, this incident remains a mystery. One thing is certain: America does not kill its ambassadors or its allies’ leaders.

He served as senior adviser to four U.S presidents on South Asia and Middle East, working as a senior member of the National Security Council. ISI using Pak diplomatic missions for anti-India agenda, London new hub
Pakistan is using its diplomatic missions, particularly in London to “fund and foment” anti-India hate campaigns. The role of the Pakistan High Commission in London, primarily of a colonel rank officer of Pakistan Army posted as an advisor there, has come to light, a report of the Indian intelligence agency reveals.
The colonel is assigned the task of re-uniting splinter groups of pro-Khalistan Sikhs, operating from Britain, Germany, the Netherlands and some other countries of Europe.
At the behest of Pakistan’s spy agency, Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), the colonel has been instrumental in funding Khalistan groups, including Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) which has an office in London.
India’s premier anti-terror agency NIA has found the ISI’s role in execution of a series of drone operated arms dropping incidents inside Indian territory through a pro-Khalistan terror kingpin Gurmeet Singh Bagga.
Reports say that Bagga, based in Germany’s Hamburg, has links with Khalistani militants operating from Britain and the US including Gurpatwant Singh Pannu of SFJ.
The colonel, who works under a senior official of Pakistan Navy posted at High Commission, has been a key person in organising several anti-India protests at the Indian High Commission office in London.
ISI-backed Khalistani groups have attacked several Indians outside the Indian High Commission office, near Bush House in London in March 2019. Later it was found that SFJ organised the attack with help of the Overseas Pakistani Welfare Council, backed by the ISI and the Pakistan High Commission.
Pannu and his close aides have been frequent visitors to the Pakistan High Commission, located at Lowndes Square.
As per Intelligence reports, several meetings of SFJ office bearers and the Colonel rank officer have been held at this office in past one year relating to anti-India campaign “Referendum 2020” in a bid to garner support of the Sikh diaspora in US, Canada and Europe. However, the ISI’s plot to rekindle the Khalistan movement has not been supported by Sikhs around the world.
That misuse of its diplomatic missions by Pakistan have come to fore. This is not for the first time, The ISI has been misusing diplomatic missions in Nepal, Bangladesh and a few Middle East countries for pushing an anti-India agenda including trafficking of Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN).
Last year, a huge FICN racket was unearthed in Kathmandu, where three Pakistan nationals, who have links in the Pakistan Embassy in Nepal, were arrested. In Bangladesh, the Pakistan High Commission’s Second Secretary, Farina Arshad was expelled after her links with a terror outfit came to light, a few years ago. Report says Arshad, operating on behalf of ISI, was also involved in sheltering smuggling gangs involved in pushing FICN into India.
Sources in the Indian intelligence agency said that in wake of escalating Sino-Indian tension over border issues, ISI has been pro-actively backing Khalistani groups to foment anti-India campaigns. The ISI has also set up an office for SFJ in Karachi to facilitate its activities relating to Referendum 2020. The Indian government has banned SFJ for its anti-India hate campaign and sheltering people involved in terror attacks in India.

NEW DELHI: A set of non-military strategic methods to wrest back PoK and Gilgit Baltistan (GB) was explored at a recent webinar attended by a former General and academiciansOrganised by Law and Society Alliance titled “India's Non-Military Options to Liberate Pak-Occupied Kashmir” on May 29 the participants were Lt. General (R) Ata Hasnain; Dr. Manish, at Gujarat Central University; and Siddharth Zarabi (a senior journalist).Gen Hasnain elaborated on the current situation across the LoC and the LAC. Stating that GB has indeed been a fascinating topic for India, he argued that despite the tremendous political consensus of the 1994 resolution, Delhi failed in taking the advantage. The reason behind India’s moves over GB to date has been lack of strategic culture among Indians. Arguing about the need of developing a long-term strategy amid geopolitical developments taking place in the Covid era, he said, “nothing works overnight. GB is not something that is like to be taken as a low lying issue, rather it is a challenge! A lot of things are changing and panning out during the pandemic and Ladakh is currently going through a rapid development phase. The action of Chinese is to send us and the world a message. It also reflects the fact that actually Pak is too worried.”The post Covid period is going to witness non-traditional ways of dispute resolution. Due to economic losses, the ways of warfare are definitely going to be non-military.Gen Hasnain explained the concepts and practical aspects of the ‘Hybrid War’ and Grey War’. He explained that the concept of hybrid war is defined by resorting to deniability, yet using sponsorship. Hybrid is a combination of different aspects of war. It can be a combination of military, economic, cyber, information warfare, and so on and so forth - which Pakistan has been resorting to for more than three decades.A new concept has emerged called ‘Grey War’ - it is a method in which one finds political and psychological domain dominant. India has started to engage in such warfare very recently - just a few months back.Information warfare was the focal point of the webinar, which was echoed by every speaker.Gen Hasnain explained the strength of social media on the strategic front and argued that social media can not be efficient until we do not have a fixed strategy and plan. Unfortunately, we haven’t resorted to it.The generational integration is going to take place in GB and India must ensure that GB should not integrate into Pakistani society. “We also must explore the Shia connect. We have a Shia connect with Turtuk, Kargil, and 25 million Shias across India. We need to integrate the Shia identity from Lucknow to Kargil. Social media shall indeed be a part of it. Looking at the diaspora, they have a huge GB, Mirpuri, and PoK diaspora. We must look for exclusive meetings with those diasporas whenever our leaders visit foreign countries.”Dr. Manish echoed the views and stated that India apparently lacks strategic culture. He further said, “we are victims of our own history. We should think about developing a strategic culture amongst the youth of this country. India has very rightful claims over PoK based on the Instrument of Accession and resolutions passed by the Parliament. The new paradigm has developed because of the addition of the Chinese factor to the issue. There significant developments. By formally revising our claims over PoK and Aksai Chin, India has rightly moved in the right direction.”He quoted that instruments of coercive powers include military aid, propaganda, maritime intercepts, cyber ops, economic sanctions, supporting political oppositions, intelligence operations, etc are instruments. They have the potential to loosen the power of the state and lead to turmoil.“Two major things that are important in our scenario. Firstly, India should invent most of the cyber tech power and energise and enlarge this domain. The content should be news, ideas, debate, social networking, entertainment, etc. Secondly, it should lend support to adversaries. We can do so by providing non- military and military aid to them. Pro-democracy opposition movements are suddenly increasing that are too intense. Most of the news literature and the research in the past century show that there have been well laid planned and massive efforts to raise pro-democracy movements. Such efforts tend to change the economy for a prolonged period. We should resort to such movements.”Zarabi focussed on strategies to combat the disinformation campaign regarding GB, POK, and Jammu and Kashmir. He said that the challenge India faces in explaining its point of view to the world. The decision of 370 abrogation was an entirely internal matter of India. “But we were surprised to see the intensity of the global backlash - which was very coordinated and organised. The issues pertaining to Kashmir have been internationalised in Pakistan and indirectly supported by Chineses sponsored global media.”For the last 30 years or more, Pakistan’s engagement with global media has been done at the level of Foreign Ministry, economic level, strategic level, with a focus on reportage lobby on global issues. We have not chosen to take the issue in an explicit way to take Pakistan to an international level. Pakistan has acted otherwise. Pak has an edge over global media in the misinformation campaign over Kashmir and surrounding areas. “I was surprised by the lack of knowledge and misinformation that senior journalists from the West had on Kashmir as a result of misinformation.”Zarabi mentioned three points on non-military action on PoK and CoK. “Firstly, as the GoI and all of us realised in 2019, that post 5 Aug, there was a barrage of misinformation and ignorance all over the world. Quality information needs to be uploaded over the web, detailed write-ups need to come up, if required- paid advertisements, knowledge-sharing events across knowledge capitals of the world, TV documentaries are a couple of things that are need of the hour. Secondly, supplementing the efforts of disinformation by diplomatic entities is required. Messages should be sent that PoK and Cok should be brought in front of the world. Thirdly, a 24*7 researched-based streaming platform should be set up by Prasar Bharati that could work on tackling disinformation on Jammu and Kashmir issue and Punjab- Khalistan issue. The DD should work on the plan of 2016 - to create a 24*7 internet streaming portal by MIB and MEA.“He concluded by arguing that the primary focus of India in non-military ways should be to work on winning information warfare. from Economic Times https://ift.tt/2ZS0pLx

Sidhu Cat EXPOSED
Today, the West Midlands Police launched “Operation Graftage”, where they arrested a Sikh man from the West Midlands. The Police were “informed” that the Singh was a member of a Khalistani militant organisation.
After the Police gave the initial disclosure, it became evident that the information was provided by police tout, Parmjit Sidhu Cat from Bedfordshire, as his statement was read out in the Police interview.
Sidhu Cat reported that he was allegedly threatened by somebody who was a member of a Khalistani militant organisation and was very dangerous. He told the WMP that this Singh was involved in “terrorism”. Officer Benson, while interviewing told the Singh that Sidhu Cat had accused him of being a member of a Khalistani militant organisation.
The officer was asked by the Singh whether Sidhu Cat was one of their people, to which he neither denied nor confirmed.
The initial Police disclosure will be released in the coming days, which will clearly demonstrate Sidhu Cat’s antics.
Facts About Sidhu Cat
1. Sidhu Cat was sent to a Khalistan training camp in the 80’s to infiltrate and provide intel to India
2. Every single Singh who attended the camp became Shaheed apart from Sidhu Cat
3. Sidhu Cat was responsible for the Shaheedi of Bhai Mohinder Singh Ji and several other Singhs of the Khalistani movement from Canada
4. Sidhu Cat resurfaced from his million-pound mansion in Bedford in 2018 claiming to be a Khalistani leader
How Sidhu Cat Operates
- Sidhu Cat has been going around the UK giving speeches trying to incite young impressionable Sikhs to pick up arms
- He then provides information to the UK police on which Singhs support the ideology of the armed struggle for
Khalistan
- This is the reason why the UK police allow him to speak so openly because he works for them
We urge the UK Sikh Sangat to be aware of Sidhu Cat’s ulterior motives. Ask yourself the following questions:
1. Why did all the Singhs become Shaheed and only he survived?
2. Where has he been for the last 25 years?
3. How did he manage to buy a million-pound mansion in Bedford?
4. How does he legally get away with openly inciting young Sikhs to pick up arms?
5. How can he frequently travel to Pakistan without ever being stopped by the UK police?
6. How can he openly claim to be a member of a Khalistani militant organisation and never be questioned by the UK police?
7. Has anyone in the UK been able to operate like this without getting arrested or questioned?
The simple answer is that Sidhu Cat is a police informant!!

Google search shows Lahore as ‘capital of Khalistan’
Pakistan, which has been vehemently been denying any kind of support for the secessionist Khalistan movement, is in for a shock — a simple Google search for the ‘capital of Khalistan’ comes up with Lahore.
Highlighting an entry in the Simple Wikipedia, the Google result shows a portion of the text — “The new state created would be called Khalistan in the modern territories of Eastern Pakistan and…
