Oh my goodness!!! Hello my friend! I’m honored Phoenix directed you to me, I really am! To tell you the truth, they’re the one that actually convinced me to watch TOS from the start. Welcome to the fandom!!

To start off with, here is a lovely rec blog that is exclusively TOS (that I’m a mod on, so I am of course biased, but I loved the blog even before I was added, haha!) It’s not updated that often at the moment, usually just when I have some spare time, but there’s a lot of recs already added to look through, and there are plenty of tags to maybe let you look for tropes or genres that you like. :)

Alright, here go the recs!

Sha Ka Ree The year is 2258. Jim Kirk is a Lieutenant on the U.S.S. Farragut, Spock the science officer of the U.S.S. Enterprise. When the ships come together for a priority landing party, these two strangers find themselves fighting against the odds for a chance at life in an alien world, and the only way they’ll make it through is by relying on each other. This is a TOS fic that takes place seven years before the show begins. It’s one of my favorite fics ever, it’s beautiful and just perfect. It’s a lovely slow burn, and it contains one of my fave tropes: Jim (Kirk) and Spock crash on an alien world and get stranded there. So, so highly recommended! Honestly, that writer is amazing and anything by them I recommend.

Crash and Burn As the Enterprise’s celebrated voyage winds down, the tension between her captain and first officer escalates, and three days aboard Jupiter’s premier lunar station will change everything. Jim doesn’t handle change very well. Slow-build, character-study prelude to the Lost Years and TMP. Unhappy ending, but canon functions as a fix-it! As the summary states, this fic doesn’t end happily. But it’s basically an explanation as to why Spock does what he does prior to The Motion Picture (I’m not sure if you’ve seen the movies so I won’t clarify just in case you haven’t, haha!), which also means there is a happy ending after the events of the movies. I had it in my bookmarks under the tag I use for fics that hurt me (literally ‘ow’, lol) so apparently I found it pretty painful. ;__;

The Squire of Eros An old nemesis pays a social call to the Enterprise just in time for the annual Valentine’s Day party. On this occasion it’s Spock who draws the brunt force of his irritating personality. But when his holiday-inspired antics turn dangerous, it’s up to the Captain and crew to take him down, and Jim is forced to confront his long-evaded desires regarding his first officer. Written for the K/S Valentine Challenge at LJ, beta’d by purple_spock. This one isn’t even remotely as serious as the other two. It’s honestly just a lot of humor and lightheartedness for the most part. It features Trelane from TOS paying another visit to the crew. :D

Definitions “We call it t'hy'la,” Spock says. This one is so beautiful. It’s a relatively short oneshot (under 10k) but it’s so romantic and in character and just perfect (this author is another one of my favorites, I would read anything at all by them.)

Pattern Deviations A mind meld is the most intimate of any possible connection – to know and be known, wholly and completely. Usually, melds are advocated for leading to increased understanding and empathy. Spock wonders what it means, then, that everyone he melds with is so repulsed by his mind… Until he meets James Kirk, anyway. This is by the same writer as Definitions; another lovely oneshot by them. I love it!

And I Am Also Quite Blind In the aftermath of Spock’s blinding in Operation Annihilate, Jim tries to help him through his pain. A fic with premise that Spock doesn’t handily recover from his blindness in Operation Annihilate. Lengthy, painful, excellent. I try to avoid WIPs because I can’t deal with the pain of fics that are NEVER FINISHED, but I started reading this one when it was only halfway through and man, it sucked me in. Worth it! (And it has been completed now, so no worries, haha.)

Undone During first contact with the highly telepathic Nghians, an invasion begins on their home world. A powerful psychic attack cripples the populace–and Spock.Out of contact with the Enterprise and stranded on a planet at war, Jim must struggle to keep himself and his violent, unpredictable first officer alive. Another of my favorite writers! I love this fic. Lengthy, excellent, and that favorite trope of mine again (being stranded, heh), this is great. Please note the tags, though!

What I Am To You I say, “Ask me anything, Spock,” for perhaps the fifth time.This time, you respond, your gaze bright and penetrating, “Perhaps you could satisfy my curiosity in–one particular.”“Of course,” I say enthusiastically.You seem perfectly calm as you ask, “How long have we been lovers?” And I am certain I have heard you correctly, even as I struggle not to allow my astonishment to show on my face. Takes place after the events of the third movie. Spock tries to make sense of his and Jim’s relationship.

Spice It’s a question of biology. Vulcan biology.The problem with falling in love with a member of an insanely private species is that it just might take you the best part of a five year mission to work out that the feelings are requited. And then you might discover that he’s already decided that the two of you can never be together.And what are you supposed to do if he won’t tell you why? Honestly, I’m reccing this one with…some trepidation. I never did decide whether I actually liked the fic or not, but I know a lot of people do like it. It’s most definitely one of the longest fics I’ve ever read in this fandom. It’s the SLOWEST OF ALL SLOW BURNS, which you said you liked, and even though it made me SO ANGRY at one point that I almost threw my phone across the room when one plot twist happened, it’s well written and in character. The reason behind it all is…kind of silly, in all honesty, but it makes complete sense why Spock thinks it would be best if Jim wasn’t with him, just like him to be so overprotective. *sigh* I’d say definitely give it a try and see if you get sucked in!

Translating Ennoia Spock intends to resign his commission with Starfleet six months into the Enterprise’s mission. Then he meets Captain Kirk – his t'hy'la – and everything becomes infinitely more complex. This author again! This fic has lots of pining. I love pining. And I love happy endings and romance and watching Jim and Spock’s friendship develop, too, and this fic has all of that.

Dirty Laundry Jim keeps leaving dirty dishes in the sink and toast crumbs in the bed. Spock deals with the mess silently until an unfortunate ironing incident puts it all in perspective. Jim and Spock have to adjust to domestic life. Spock has to adjust to Jim’s messiness. Domestic Spirk is always wonderful, and I enjoy that in this one it’s not all perfect at first. They have to adjust and learn to actually live together.

Breaking Tradition Newlyweds James T. Kirk and Spock spend their Holiday shore leave alone together in a remote cabin once belonging to Jim’s grandparents. They learn more about each other and Jim introduces his new husband to the Winter Holiday traditions - even if he doesn’t quite understand why he take part in them himself. An unexpected event occurs that disrupts the couple’s newlywed bliss. Luckily, one of them has experience with taking charge of a situation. This one is sooo sweet. Jim just wants to share Christmas with Spock, but they have a mishap. But it’s okay, because Jim takes good care of Spock. (Features cold!Spock, one of my favorite things. :3 )

Ghost in the Machine Tom Paris stumbles upon a Pandora’s Box of loss and regret. This fic is the outlier in this list; it’s actually a crossover of sorts between TOS and VOY. I’ve not actually watched Voyager yet, but that doesn’t stop me from reading and enjoying the fic, so please don’t let that stop you! Let me tell you, though, this has to be one of the most painful fics I’ve ever read. It just makes me cry for Jim and Spock both. It’s so painful. But also really great. But I totally understand if you don’t want to read this one, haha! It’s not for everyone. It messed me up though, I kept thinking about it for days. Especially Jim as he is in this fic. Ugh.

Home Renovation Shortly before his first mission to Romulus, Spock buys a fixer-upper house with Jim. Although Jim is excited to begin renovating their new home, Spock worries it’s only a matter of time before his husband falls off a ladder and breaks his spine. Not to mention, the house’s derelict state is preventing Spock from enjoying his remaining time with Jim. Old Married Spirk, protective!Spock, perfection.

To Be Wed “With a human ruling alongside King Sarek, it makes sense that they would want a Vulcan to rule alongside you. Look on the bright side. At least it’s not Sybok."Prince S'chn T'gai Spock and Crown Prince Sam Kirk are pushed by their families into an awkward courtship, sure to become an awkward marriage. Meanwhile, the younger Terran prince just wants to make sure his future brother-in-law feels comfortable in his new home. But unfortunately for Jim, the road to hopeless, unrequited love is paved with good intentions. It’s an AU, obviously, and it’s by the same author as Sha Ka Ree (who as I mentioned is one of my favorite writers) and I just adore this fic, it’s so great! Pining, slowly getting to watch Jim and Spock falling in love even when it’s ill advised, Sybok!! I’m also just a total sucker for royalty AUs so that helps.

In My Own Skin After the events of Turnabout Intruder, Jim is trapped in Janice Lester’s body indefinitely and has to learn to carry on with his normal life and duties trapped in this body. Established relationship with Spock, but things become understandably difficult as a result of Jim’s situation. Complicating matters even further, the Enterprise is assigned to a difficult diplomatic mission with a new member of the Federation. I don’t know about everyone else, but my brain definitely went “what if Jim was stuck in that body…” after watching Turnabout Intruder, and this fic definitely satisfied that urge to see that explored.

Heat Trapped together in a cave until the storm ceases, Jim and Spock find some freedom outside the press of the ship and its responsibilities. Oh look….this writer again. :DDD You’re starting to notice a pattern here, I’m sure. This was written because of a prompt I gave, so obviously I’m a little biased, but it’s just SO perfect??? Cold!Spock, cuddling for warmth (another of my favorites, hello), and just so ROMANTIC that I almost can’t handle it.

Okay, those are all TOS, but now I have just a handful of AOS AUs:

Still, Like Dust Vulcans have been enslaved on Earth for more than fifty years. To Jim Kirk, 14, this is just one more chapter from his history book… until his uncle brings home a Vulcan boy to help on the farm. I know this fic isn’t for everyone, it definitely isn’t, but it really is a great read and I enjoyed reading it a lot. There’s a lot of pain, it’s true, but there’s also a happy ending, if that helps.

Inside The River Starfleet sends Jim a spouse and an oddly vacant honeymoon. Arranged marriage!AU, always fun, and an interesting mystery going on throughout. Great read!

You start screaming when he forced you to tilt your head sideways, desperately pushing against his chest to get him off you. Dear God, he was STRONG, his slim build belying the strength he had. You let out a shriek when you felt him kiss the side of your neck, right over a strong pulse.

"This will not take long, m'dear," he murmured against your neck before you felt the pain from two sharp...things.

Oh God, he's biting me, you thought in horror.

READ IT! It’s fun, it’s got vampires (Kylo and Hux in capes), and it’s got YOU! It’s a light, fun read with a lot of humor and some drink recipes. Teen and Up (nothing too smutty, despite the GIF I put up there), and a fun read no matter what your age! This will go on the Halloween List for October for sure! Enjoy!

What Are You Reading? TROS fix-it edition. 2/16/20

Hi, fellow Reylos!!!

It’s been a while since I did one of these. It’s been a while since I have had any time to READ!!! Like most of you, I was really disappointed by the TROS movie and I’m looking mainlyl at TROS fixits these days, or AUs with happy endnigs. I’m still following stories from my previous posts, but many authors are on hiatus or are working on something new, so let’s see check out some fresh stories for our star-crossed lovers and see if there are any happy endings in sight for them?

*Note: Most of these are WIP given the fact that it’s only been a couple of months since TROS!

And if you reblog this, please add your own recommendations and why you like them! My finds are below this line (because it will be a long post).

1. I Am Beautiful With You by @greyforceuser. 1/? (Mature)

Based on the prompt, “Rey was found and trained by Snoke while Ben never went dark.“

Summary: Rey has been emphatically single-minded since the moment her parents were murdered when she was 10.Taken in by her savior that awful day, he has taught her everything he knows, training her for the one thing he promised he could help her get: revenge.

She is closing in on her target when a complication arises, in the form of a handsome starfighter racing pilot named Kylo Ren, to whom she feels an immediate and unusual connection.Their coming together will change both of their lives in ways they couldn't have imagined.

Why I like: Love the role reversal here with a Dark Rey. I love other works by this author, so I’m looking forward to where this one goes.

2. Soft Wet Kisses that last 3 Days...is this Heaven? by Scyfymom13 (ao3 user name - no tumblr account) 3/10 (Mature)

SUMMARY: Rey is a minor league catcher brought on to help nurture the new pitcher. Ben is a self exiled ball player living on a Jogan Fruit farm or the AU Field of Dreams - Bull Durham mashup.

Okay, this isn’t exactly a TROS fixit fic, but it’s a baseball AU that is so refreshing, and if you have a background in softball or a kid in ball, this will make you laugh! And Rey and Ben are on a romantic trojectory. If you haven’t seen Field of Dreams or Bull Durham, they are great films! This one is just a lot of fun.

Why I like: Enjoying a large cast of Star Wars characters and baseball lingo - fun escapism!

3. Across Alternate Universes by @intp-slytherin 19/25 (Mature)

SUMMARY: Rey Niima couldn’t comprehend why her former foster brother turned friend/co-worker, Ben Solo looking circa 2012, ended up in her apartment, demanding what ‘force dream’ she was imposing on him.

Somehow two Ben Solos from different universes switch places, leaving their Reys to figure out how to handle a Ben vastly different than their own—not to mention the finicky thing called a force bond.

Why I like: This is an AU I started a long time ago and I’m so into it! I love the “nerfherders” couple Ben and Rey and then when NH-Ben and Space Kylo somehow get switched, it makes for some hilarious and tense situations! I love the concept and the writing is geat!

4. Lovesick by @perrydowning 21/? (Mature)

SUMMARY: Rey travels back to when Ben is 19 and training with Luke.

This, this is what, who he’s been waiting for. Which is especially odd since he wants to be a Jedi Master, and Luke has never been seen with anyone. Is it even allowed? He’d never thought it would matter much to him.

But now, now it godsdamned matters, because he’s in love. At least he thinks he is. He’s 19 and he’s never felt like this before, so it’s hard to tell. And he’s not going to ask anyone. He has a hard enough time hiding her from the voices as it is.

Because that’s one thing he does know. Rey isn’t to be shared.

With anyone.

Why I like: It’s a Perry Downing story, so it’s going to be good, but particularly in lieu of the disappointment of the TROS movie, this is definitely comfort tea and a reimagining of our favorite couple as it might have been. And her stories always end with HEA, and who doesn’t want a heavy dose of that right now?

5. The Call of the Light by Moongrim and @nancylovesreylo 28/28 COMPLETED FIC, (Explicit)

SUMMARY: Post TLJ – Rey is now part of the Resistance and Kylo Ren is the Supreme Leader of the First Order. Will their paths cross anew? Will the Force once again be able to unite these two beings for whom everything seems opposed?

Why I like: It’s got very well done action scenes. It takes place after TLJ and ignores TROS. Disclaimer: I haven’t had time to finish it yet, but what I’ve read I’ve really liked!

Okay, that’s it for this week. I try not to overwhelm people with fics, so I usually go with about 5 fic recs on these. But feel free to reblog and add your own recs or fics. Just be sure to put in a link to the fic, a short summary, and why you recommend it!

What Are You Reading? 04/05/2020

Hi folks,

Well, as of this date most of the world is on lockdown from the coronavirus. I hope you are all well and taking it seriously and practicing social distancing, wearing masks, and STAYING HOME! It’s a stressful time for everyone, some more than others.

So, let’s find some good reads to keep our minds calm and distracted from all the chaos, shall we?

A couple of Reylo authors have made the leap to published authors now! I’m so happy to see this and hope it continues to be a trend. So my first two recommendations are not free fanfic, but actual books written by Reylo authors!

My first recommendation:

HADES AND PERSEPHONE: Curse of the Golden Arrow by @heidihastings !

This beautiful story has 44 stunning illustrations by the so very talented Ms. Hastings! I am in awe of her artwork, and it’s a delight to get to read her novel! It isn’t Ben and Rey, but as with so many AUs in fanfic, it’s not difficult to imagine them in the roles, especially with the 44 breathtakingly romantic art. This is well worth your money!

I’ve linked it to Amazon USA, but if you’re in another country you might have to look it up where you can buy it. I got the kindle version, but I’m thinking about getting the paperback also because the art is so amazing.

The Plot:

An illustrated fantasy romance novel featuring 44 original drawings. A Cursed Love...

When Persephone is forced into the Underworld, she fears the Dark Lord who rules the shadowed kingdom. A curse has brought them together, and the Goddess of Spring wars against Hades, the King of the Dead. But as time passes, she begins to wonder if he is truly the monster she fears or if he may be the very answer her soul calls out for.

Lies, jealousy and betrayal combine to keep them apart. Together, they battle against an unknown foe, but is there enough time to reveal the dark truths of the God before his kingdom falls?

My second recommendation is by an AO3 author we know as Elwyngirlie. On Tumblr, she is @hauscrashburn I’ve read a lot of her stories and love her style. When a friend told me she had published a book, I had to check it out, and I’m happy to say it does not disappoint!

I love a good thriller, and this is a very intense suspense novel with elements of the supernatural in a modern setting. It kept my attention until the very end, and although it isn’t Reylo, again my mind automatically cast Adam and Daisy in the lead roles!

The Devil’s Bargain by Ellie Jones is totally worth your money (and it’s free if you have Kindle Unlimited).

The Plot:

Justine Thatcher had it all figured out: graduate school, Ph.D, moving to New York. Her life organized to the minute. That is, until the night she escaped with her life, the only witness to the brutal murders. That same night she is thrust into a dangerous world, where magic is real, and toward a sudden discovery that, as a Thatcher, she is wanted as a valuable ally. That as heir to a witch tradition, others will do anything to tempt her to their side. And David will do anything to make sure she chooses his. David: the man from the restaurant who helped create the horror she relived daily. With her family in danger, she has no choice but to take his bargain. He will help her save her sister, kidnapped and held hostage by others who want her power for more nefarious reasons. But nothing is for free and he extracts a terrible price. A novice witch with a scientific mind, she marries the two to find a solution in a race against time to save those she loves. Even as she sacrifices all for them.

My last recommendation for this installment is a fanfic on AO3 which is a fix-it fic for TROS (Lord knows we need them) and it’s a long one-shot that is a feel-good romantic fic that I really enjoyed. Check out Atonement by @stargazer1116 and enjoy Ben and Rey as they were meant to be!

*If you want a longer fanfic than a one-shot, then I recommend Force du Coeur by the same author, @stargazer1116. Fluffy, heartfelt, and suitable for all ages. A great “comfort fic!”

The Plot:

"Force du Coeur" is French for "strength of heart"...and that it includes "force" makes it THAT MUCH BETTER!

Kylo Ren is the CEO of a successful corporation in NYC. In a power play, his board, led by his uncle, demand that he marry to makeover his dismal public image. Rey is an art therapist working with foster kids in Harlem. When she contacts Kylo for possible support, he proposes a business deal that can benefit them both. He has no idea how much this woman with a fierce heart will turn his world upside down.

If you are looking for a fluffy, romantic, Reylo love story, I'm your girl. The rating will not change. I'm the PG-13 gal of the Reylo fic fandom!

What Are You Reading? 01/11/2019

New and Notable

Santa Baby by @riaria84 -Sweet, hilarious office AU in which Rey is Kylo’s Secret Santa - yes, I KNOW it’s after Christmas. I don’t care!

The Path That Moonbeams Make by @avdali-blog - Arranged marriage AU, Rey in a harem with catty wives, but this is not a rape-y story; it’s been a feel-good one so far and a sexy Kylo with all sorts of intrigue.

Scrooged at Crossroads by @apisa-b ALL THE FEELS - a short story that will make you tear up, but in a good way

I think I’ve put out lists about most of my other favs I’m still reading, so here are the newest ones I’ve discovered...I certainly read MORE than these, and I’m behind because I’ve gone back to work and I’m still working on my own story! (But honestly, I’d read these stories before reading mine - these authors are REALLY good!)

What Are You Reading This Week - 4/23/18

Some of my favorites updated this week, and I thought I’d mention as well as posting new fics. I’m behind on so many, but I’ll get there! Add yours if you reblog and let me know what YOU are reading!

Your Mood: You just watched Emma Watson twirl across the dance floor on Netflix with the guy that played Matthew on Downton Abbey (still not over season 3, but bygones) and you want a little of that kind of romance:

Across the Stars by @nite0wl29 updated. with Ch 12. - A Star Wars Universe, Angst with a Happy Ending with a sort of “Beauty and the Beast” theme woven in.

Your Mood: You’re high maintenance, dammit, and by God you want a good Reylo story AND a strong Luke Skywalker who didn’t hold a saber near his adolescent nephew in a “lapse of judgment” (WTF, Rian, really).

Well...not many fics are gonna cater to you, but since I happen to feel this pissy at times MYSELF...Pandora has you covered. You are in search of:

Strategic Alliances by Wissixwe and Skywalkers (sequel that can be read as a standalone with a little catch-up via the author, @thereisnocureforthis. This deals with concepts that might blow your mind a bit or make you geek out if are a former Trekkie and love stuff like “folding space” and world building. Irno the Kourin was my favorite OC in Skywalkers and Dar Noah got Leia’s groove back in Strategic Alliance AND Skywalkers (more power to him - although he is a Sith, but a nice one). AND Luke FINALLY has a love interest in Skywalkers AND he’s playing his part as a hero, not as a grump old man. This was the Luke I wanted to see. Author is a ....physicist? Nasa engineer? Something like that, because she takes her plot and details seriously, and I’ve had to ask questions at times as she writes at a level far above my head sometimes. Intellectuals, this one is for you!

I also started A Certain Point of View by Wissixwe @thereisnocureforthis recently which is her first post The Last Jedi fic. It’s still early to know where this is headed, but I love the Leia/Ben/Rey interaction! Definitely worth bookmarking. The author has a beautiful and lyrical writing style and I’ve been following her since early 2016 when I joined!

Your mood: Possible tipsy, because you’re seeing DOUBLE! PP knows why: you are probably reading:

Across Alternate Universes updated by @intp-slytherin97 which is the one with two different Ben Solos/Kylo Rens in alternative universes that switch places. Damn do I wish I was on a desert island right now and could binge this. SOON.

Alone in Space by @mrsvioletwrites is a new one I just started. It’s five chapters completed, obviously a WIP, but it’s set in the Prohibition era and I just LOVE it so far! Snoke is a female character! Fiona O’Snoke was the leader of the bootleggers but got herself killed. Kylo the Killer is the bootlegger who now runs things with Hux and Phaedra (Phasma) as his helpers. Rey and Poe are the two detectives trying to solve the case of why young women are dying from methanol poisoning, and Kylo is investigating why his product is doing that as well. Meanwhile, Rey dresses in a slinky flapper outfit trying to draw out Kylo the Killer. And it’s working...

Your mood: You are pressed for time and can’t take on even a 10 page fic, but you need a good post TLJ one-shot. Pandora’s Picks recommends:

Connected in the Deep by @juuls

A moody, sensual one-shot exploring the Force Bond! One of my favorite writers due to her writing style. This little gem hasn’t had many readers finding for some reason. I loved it!

You’re in the mood for a bit of romance, a bit of soul, maybe a touch of poetry. Pandora’s Picks definitely recommends:

Songs of Innocence, Songs of Wisdom by @cosmo-gonika.

I’ve got to beta a few chapters, so I’m really steeped in this story which has a great plot, great descriptions, and some steamy sex scenes! There’s also a female rival for Ren’s affections, or it would APPEAR to be going that way - meet Vrieska, Knight of Ren and original character by the author. Watch that little minx!

Your Mood: PISSED because there’s nothing M/M on here!

Poe/Hux Afterstory Tales by @gamebird

BONUS - it’s COMPLETE! You have 22 chapters to binge!

This picks up after Pacification, where Hux and Poe sparked an unlikely relationship, earned one another's trust, and became engaged. In this, they get to know one another better as Hux continues to soften and learn how to be more of a human being. This is not a stand-alone and I would suggest reading Grey and Complicated, Orderly Lives, and Pacification first.

Your Mood: Fuck. This. Day! I need to punch something or...

Hey. Slow down, buddy. Pandora’s Picks suggests you quit punching your pillow and let’s get some of that passion redirected to...well, PASSION! I have the erotic interrogation story to end your night ona “happy” note!

“He’d Let Her” by @lucidlucy (I’m like the LAST person to discover this author, but what a treat to finally read these works!) Where’s Rey? She’s his guest! But then of course she escapes and Snoke wants him to find her yada yada and they explore the Force Bond and then Kylo is with her and...well, just read it! It’s the first part of a series, though. Not a one-shot, but I’m enjoying the ride!

That’s all for now. If you’re reading more than hat, you’re not sleeping enough, studying enough, or working enough! Anyway, it’s Monday and way past my bedtime.
