I might actually work this out into a mini story???

Wukong gets hit by a weird weapon that turns him into this non-verbal confused defensive figure, as he doesn't recognises anyone but feels some familiarity with the group.

Clinging onto tang, being almost inseperable of him as he refuses too leave his side. The scholar is a stranger too him aswell but he feels like he does know this man truly, as he reminds him of someone that he can't fully remember their image of. All he knows he was important.

"I suppose this is the price I pay for your sufferings in our journey, Monkey," The monk's sad expression does not go unnoticed.

"I already forgive you for that! are you here only to-" his voice shatters, "to leave me again?"

Sanzang tilted his head and brought his hand to the side of his cheeks.

"That sin of the past does not belong to me nor him," his eyes cast down to the unconscious scholar, "That sin solely belongs to The golden cicada but what am I if I was no better than him?"

"You are ten times better than him!" Wukong stated, "you are the most sincere human I have ever met, and most of all you are- you are my friend,"

Sanzang chuckled, covering his smile with his hands, "I'm flattered, Monkey,".

"if there's anything I want to know just tell me, What am I without you?"

"...yourself,".

The king stayed silent, his gaze planted to the ground as he pulled at the hem of his clothes.

"that's good wasn't it? You are finally free, Wukong you can do whatever you want in life, you can do so much more than just being my disciple," the monk touched his cheeks. "I...I was envious of my latest incarnation,".

"he has every humanity I have ever yearned for and more, the fact that he acts so human is what makes him beautiful," Sanzang then looked down again to the scholar. "He didn't have to learn about the value of companionship to help his friends, so treat him gently okay?"

"ah...it seems the hours of my turning have come, it might not seem like it but honestly I was quite afraid," The clouds around them slowly engulf the Monk.

He laughs softly and gave Wukong a sincere smile, even with the face of his recent incarnation. He set his gaze downcast, as if knowing that his face brings pain to the great sage.

"Farewell my disciple, I hope you loved the part you played for the past 500 years,"

By Buddha, he hoped he wasn't absolutely terrible at this. Amber hues momentarily looking down towards their feet, was he doing this right? He hadn't stepped on the other's toes yet, so he must be ok? Right? Slowly lifting his gaze back up to the lock with his companion's, heart fluttering at the cheerful expression that greeted him. Feeling his cheeks heat up in the moment, pink dusting them lightly.

Okay, maybe he wasn't that bad. A soft and warm smile plastering itself across the Sage's face as he listened to the laughter bubbling from Tang's lips, adoring the sound. It was so enchanting and lovely. A symphony like no other. Pulling him closer as they danced away to their heart's content. Not caring anymore how bad he might be at this now — his focus now on the joy that it was bringing the man in his arms.

The gold hue now overtaking the scholar wasn't hard for him to miss and hissing lightly in response. Soft in his approach towards the other, not hesitating as he reached out to cup the other's face in his hands.

"Come on babe, they ain't worth this."

Voice gentle as he spoke, trying to pull the other from this state. Sure, the man had every right to unleash hell on them but not if that meant loosing himself. Pressing his forehead gently against his in response.

"Please, come back to me Tang. Come back to us."

     “Sun Wukong --- my vessel cannot hear you..” but something deep in the cicada ached, screamed. There were tears falling down the scholar’s face as there was clearly an inner struggle, the cicada let out a huff... “Impressive...” the insect whispered before finally retreating, the golden glow would slowly... far too slowly fade away from the scholar, leaving an absolutely exhausted scholar and historian behind.        He merely looked up into those worried golden eyes, his body felt like it was on fire, he ached all over, ached so much. “.....?” confusion and then guilt hit dark brown eyes. 

       “.....Did... Did I hurt anybody?” he asked, his voice cracking. Oh... Oh what had he done? He worked so hard to keep the cicada down and here he was... Having lost that battle as tears ran down his face as he shuddered. “I’m... I’m so sorry...!”
