*This track takes me back, and this actually happened to me! kind of. There was a gal in High School I thought was pretty Dynamite on a Saturday Night. Anyhow I would get a hot lunch just so I could stand in the line behind her. I would buy like 3 or 4 orders of fries and just give them to my friends at our table. I didn't care about the fries.

So HS ended and everyone went out into the world (I went a little earlier) and there were no social media in those days, so tracks were lost and the world was big.

It turns out she wasn't in a magazine (I mean she might have been, but I didn't know about it) but rather in a few movies, of an adult nature.

I couldn't believe it! I mean I thought that she would go off and run a fashion magazine (she was always big on fashion) or become a spy or a High-End Art Theif or something. Nope.

I ran into her a few years later at a party out on the west coast. She told me that, can you believe it?!!, she had a crush on me way back in High School, but was too shy to talk to me (I was the same with her.) I don't know nothing seemed the same to me, and I could tell by the look in her eyes, she was sort of disappointed with me too. So yeah. One of the few people from my High School years that I am not in touch with on social media. And she never added me either. I guess sometimes the dream is just a little better.

#427 Peter Wolf – Sleepless

Peter who? This came out in 2002? Cover art looks like something I’d pick up—why haven’t I heard of this?

Apparently, Peter Wolf sang in the J Geils Band. That’s right—of “Love Stinks” and “Centerfold” fame. When I started this album, I was completely taken aback. Love the guitar, love the vocals, loved everything about this album. I loved it enough that I saved it to my Amazon Music so I don’t forget to listen again. Really glad I found this album.

Best track: Lost my notes on this one, so can’t say “best” but I really liked the opening track, “Growin’ Pain.” It’s another thing that musically reminds me of the show True Blood. (Which is weird that keeps coming up because I didn’t even watch that show!)

Producer Peter Wolf made a lot of s——-records with a lot of bands (Starship, Wang Chung, Big Country, Chicago, El DeBarge, Nik Kershaw, Heart, The Commodores, Patti LaBelle) and this is the s——- record he made with Go West. It is well-produced pablum, astoundingly inoffensive and unremarkable, as instantly forgotten as a 6AM dream, and that’s a shame, because Peter Cox had that white soul vocal down cold. It goes to waste, however, on an entire album of innocuous lite jazz-esque pop aimed at absolutely no one, meant to be played in the background while divorcées clumsily flirt in a hotel bar. All music has its place, but would you BUY an album of that? Tellingly, it was their last record on a major label, even though it had three now-forgotten hits; what should have been a springboard for their career proved to be a death knell instead. 
What makes this particular copy special, however, is that it exists. Released in the early 90s, the album got a vinyl release only in far-off corners of the globe; this copy came from Greece, where it was pretty obscure there to begin with. As a completist, I had to grab it, but found it as underwhelming as ever when I gave it an inaugural spin this afternoon. At least “King of Wishful Thinking” is still a great track.
