as a fan of the books i was not expecting so many gods to just appear in this first season. like obvi Dionysus and Ares show up but now we also got Hephestus and in the next ep Hermes directly interacting with the trio. at first i was like why are they here the whole point is that the gods are supposed to be absent... but in a way that's exactly what their earlier appearance is showing.

Hephaestus has time to fucking wander around his rusty amusement park. Hermes has time to gamble and slowly deliver packages (why was he just fucking walking around like can't bro teleport or something??). Ares and Mr D do whatever they want wbk.

the point of showing them earlier is to show what they ARE doing INSTEAD of visiting their kids. like bro is out here moping around his lonely little amusement park while all the demigods at camp fucking hate their godly parent. they have all the time in the world but they just don't care.. they choose to do other shit instead of seeing their LITERAL CHILDREN. it's so painfully obvi to the viewer why Percy hates them all so quick, but the gods just don't realize.

PJO (TV) S1E5 -- little things I like

The trio hiding behind the cement blocks was the cutest thing ever <3 And they poked their heads out then back again. Such children~~

Grover kept shaking his head when Percy went on and on about the hug and friends.

Ares used twitter.

Ares was so excited about the upcoming war he almost sobbed. This god of war was awesome.

Grover was super chill when Ares asked him to stay while the other two were so flustered. He knew it would happen. Love him.

Annabeth told Grover not to engage with Ares and Grover was already planning on digging information out of Ares. God I love the satyr so much.

" It's a little funny." I forgot Annabeth was like this.

It's kind of cute that Annabeth repeated her question immediately after Percy denied he used the water power. She's just gonna keep asking until Percy admits lol

All those sympathetic nods, smiles, occasion eye-rolls from Grover. He's such a good therapist.

Love that ' you got a point' hand gesture Grover made at " explain the owl." lol

That little smile when he god Ares flustered... ! LIttle devil.

The golden chain was beautiful.

Percy whispered " I'm okay." to himself...

Why did Hephaestus look tiny and cartoony? kind of cute.

I love Grover casually called Ares emotional abuse and asked for a towel after stopping Percy from provoking the god lol

And of course they decide to walk along the side of the road, where the cops will recognize them immediately if they drive by. At least the grass is tall.

The way they were trying not to be friends and now they're both crying because he's sacrificing himself for the quest. 😭

Not fucking Hepa-how-the-fuck-do-you-spell-his-name heading back to the amusement park to keep Annabeth from undoing Percy's sacrifice.

Holy shit, she convinced him. I mean, obviously. I knew she'd have to because Percy doesn't die this early on, but yeah, he's a God, so.

Well, at least both of them two Gods are impressed.

Fuck, next episode is the Lotus episode.

I don't know what I was expecting Grover to say, but it was not "I think I know who stole the master bolt." I don't remember this part of the book- it's been like eight years after all- but yeah. Did he figure out it was Luke??

okay looking back I have Thoughts on the boat ride.

spoilers under the cut for the lightning thief book, and pjo s1e5

honestly negative tone, focusing on a specific character

we missed out on A) Annabeth explaining the gods being cheaters B) Annabeth explaining how the trap works C)Annabeth saving Percy with her intellect by telling him when to jump

are we seeing a theme here?

Percy was still definitely right when he said Annabeth was better than him at quest, but this episode had way less of Annabeth showing off her problem solving and sharp mind than the previous three, ESPECIALLY considering that the chapter is based on is, like, ALL Annabeth!

We don't even get her arachnophobia!

the arachnophobia is, like, extremely relevant, so I think it might be folded into the zebra truck convo, which is originally where the "Grover was Thalia's protector" thing cane up in the book? since it is needed for the Lotus scene, as well as because spiders are part of what caused her to run away.

The thing is, though, that that scene is the first time I'm the book we see her "freeze up" and Percy have to handle something for her. If the show was going to show Annabeth's vulnerable side from the get-go, why not let her DO SOMETHING in the episode?

Even if Annabeth had the same monologue to Hepheastus, why not have his little flute schtick be a 'too late' thing because she'd solved it? And have him still realize how he had been acting!

between Echidna and this, Annabeth hasn't known a myth based on hints alone since Medusa, which is certainly A Choice.

honestly I should probably do a seperate post on why it matters who knows what myth, but in this episode it just made Annabeth look off her game.

I truly don't understand all these choices, like they make some sense individually but just change too much all together, so I will definitely try and figure out why.

HOWEVER

I do appreciate the vague effort made towards nerdery

and between this whole episode's Annabeth vibe and her seeing the Fates, I super believe that SHE will be the one to figure out who the Thief is.

Especially with how she was acting in the scene with the motorcycle and how suspicious she was, I'd wager that in the very likely event that Grover is wrong about the Thief, that Annabeth will be definitely able to piece together the right story when the time comes. and we're all gonna cry.

ok let's take a moment to appreciate HOW FUCKING SMART GROVER IS. like the important part isn't that he may or may not be an Ares fangirl.

the important part is THE WAY HE WAS PULLING OUT THOSE RANDOM WARS bc he KNEW EXACTLY what to say to get Ares to start talking. like before they left Annabeth told Grover not to let Ares get into his head, but in the end GROVER WAS THE ONE WHO GOT ARES. BRO STRAIGHT UP INTERROGATED THE GOD OF WAR WITHOUT SAID GOD SUSPECTING ANYTHING.

like he persuaded Percy and Annabeth to get the shield bc he knew they could do it, and then he made sure Ares would hold his end of the deal and get them a ride by taking abt random wars and shit talking Athena. he's a genius.
