I’m Appalled by What I Learned About Recycling. But We Can Fix It.
Tumblr media
It happened again the other night: Washing up after dinner, I went to throw out a packet of just-eaten instant tortellini and was flummoxed. It was plastic, sure. But what kind? There was no resin code or recycling symbol on the package. Nothing on the label, either. Should I throw it in the trash? Recycle it? And if I did, would it even get recycled?
Lately, a number of reports have cast doubt on the very idea of recycling, a habit ingrained in many of us since childhood. Recycling has been called a myth and beyond fixing as we’ve learned that recyclables are being shipped overseas and dumped (true), are leaching toxic chemicals and microplastics (true) and are being used by Big Oil to mislead consumers about the problems with plastics[1]. Packaging companies have used the promise of recyclability to flood the world with disposable and often toxic plastic trash. The consequences are now clear — in the trash, in our rivers and oceans, in the microplastics in our bloodstreams and in the plastic quite literally falling from the sky.
This isn’t the first time that recycling has come under fire — far from it. In fact, the most famous assault on it, “Recycling Is Garbage,” by John Tierney for The Times Magazine,[2] appeared in 1996. But the latest crisis seems existential. You know it’s bad when the plastics industry feels compelled to create a rebuttal campaign called Recycling Is Real.
Recycling is real. I’ve seen it. For the past four years, I’ve travelled the world writing a book about the waste industry, visiting paper mills and e-waste shredders and bottle plants. I’ve visited all kinds of plastics recycling facilities, from gleaming new factories in Britain to smoky, flake-filled shredding operations in India. While I’ve seen how recycling has become inseparable from corporate greenwashing, we shouldn’t be so quick to cast it aside.[3] In the short term, at least, it might be the best option we have against our growing waste crisis.
One of the most fundamental problems with recycling is that we don’t really know how much of it actually happens because of an opaque global system that too often relies on measuring the material that arrives at the front door of the facility rather than what comes out. What we do know is that with plastics, at least, the amount being recycled is much less than most of us assumed.
You probably throw a milk container in the recycling, put the bins out on collection day and forget about it. But depending on where you are in the United States (or the world), that carton is probably taken to a place to be sorted and graded, baled up with other cartons and shipped off to a recycling facility. Depending on the material in question, that might happen in your home state, or it might happen abroad, in countries like Canada, Mexico, India and Malaysia.[4] At least that’s how it’s supposed to work.
The reality is a different story. According to the Environmental Protection Agency[5], two of the most commonly used plastics in America — PET (used in soda bottles) and HDPE (used in milk jugs, among other things) — are “widely recycled,” but the rate is really only about 30 percent. Other plastics, like soft wraps and films, sometimes called No. 4 plastics, are not widely accepted in curtsied collections. The E.P.A. estimates that just 2.7 percent of polypropylene — the hard plastic known as No. 5, used to make furniture and cleaning bottles — was reprocessed in 2018. Crunch the sums, and only around 10 percent of plastics in the United States is recycled, according to the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine[6].
It is worth noting that the landfill-happy United States is far worse at recycling than other major economies. According to the E.P.A., America’s national recycling rate, just 32 percent, is lower than Britain’s 44 percent, Germany’s 48 percent and South Korea’s 58 percent. (Please take all of these figures with a grain of salt.) But just because recycling doesn’t work very well in the United States doesn’t mean it can’t be done well. In fact, the scientific research over decades has repeatedly found that in almost all cases, recycling our waste materials has significant environmental benefits. According to a 2015 analysis by scientists at the University of Southampton in England, recycling a majority of commonly tossed-out waste materials resulted in a net reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. In the case of aluminum, scrap metals and textiles, the savings were substantial.
Compare recycling with the alternative, which is making the same products from scratch. Recycling steel, for example, saves 72 percent of the energy of producing new steel; it also cuts water use by 40 percent. Recycling a ton of aluminum requires only about 5 percent of the energy and saves almost nine tons of bauxite from being hauled from mines. Even anti-plastics campaigners agree that recycling plastics, like PET, is better for the climate than burning them — a likely outcome if recycling efforts were to be abandoned.
The economic perks are significant, too. Recycling creates as many as 50 jobs for every one created by sending waste to landfills; the E.P.A. estimates that recycling and reuse accounted for 681,000 jobs in the United States alone. That’s even more true in the developing world, where waste pickers rely on recycling for income.
So before we abandon recycling, we should first try to fix it. Companies should be phasing out products that can’t be recycled and designing more products that are easier to recycle and reuse rather than leaving sustainability to their marketing departments.[7] Lawmakers can help by passing new laws, as cities like Seattle and San Francisco have done, to help increase recycling rates and drive investment into the sector.[8]
Governments can also ban or restrict many problematic plastics to reduce the amount of needless plastics in our everyday lives, for instance in food packaging. We need clearer labelling of what is and is not actually recyclable and transparency around true recycling rates. Those are among the many issues currently being debated as part of a United Nations treaty on plastic pollution, a much-needed intervention.
Greater safety regulations are needed to reduce toxic chemical contents[9]  and microplastic pollution[10] caused by the recycling process. And consumers can do their bit by buying recycled products (and buying less and reusing more).
For the sake of our planet and our own health, we should all be trying to move away from our disposable excesses. Yes, recycling is broken, but abandon it too soon, and we risk going back to the system of decades past, in which we dumped and burned our garbage without care, in our relentless quest for more. Do that, and like the recycling symbol itself, we really will be going in circles.

Agricultural Stretch Film Market to amass significant gains by 2030
Tumblr media
Agricultural stretch film, also known as agricultural silage wrap or bale wrap, is a specialized type of plastic film used in the agricultural industry for wrapping bales of hay, straw, or silage. It is designed to protect the bales from moisture, air, and other environmental factors, preserving their quality and nutritional value.
For Download Sample Report Click Here: https://www.marketinforeports.com/Market-Reports/Request-Sample/518607
Here are some key points about agricultural stretch film:
Material: Agricultural stretch film is typically made from high-quality polyethylene (PE) plastic. PE is chosen for its durability, flexibility, and ability to stretch without tearing.
Function: The primary function of agricultural stretch film is to tightly wrap bales, creating an airtight seal that prevents the growth of mold, bacteria, and other microorganisms. This helps to maintain the nutritional content of the stored forage and reduce waste.
Protection: The film acts as a protective barrier, shielding the bales from rain, sunlight, dust, and pests. It minimizes spoilage caused by exposure to moisture and UV radiation, which can degrade the quality of the forage.
Stretchability: Agricultural stretch film has excellent stretch properties, allowing it to be elongated and tightly wrapped around the bales. This elasticity helps to create a snug fit, reducing the chances of air pockets and ensuring a secure seal.
Thickness and Width: The film comes in various thicknesses, typically ranging from 25 to 30 microns (µm). It is available in different widths, allowing farmers to choose the appropriate size for their bales.
Colors: Agricultural stretch film is commonly available in white or black colors. White film reflects sunlight, reducing heat buildup and minimizing the risk of overheating the stored forage. Black film blocks sunlight, preventing the growth of algae and maintaining the nutritional content of silage.
Application: The film is applied using specialized machinery, such as bale wrappers or bale wrapping equipment. These machines evenly dispense and wrap the film around the bales, ensuring proper coverage and tension.
Recycling: Many agricultural stretch films are recyclable, although the specific recycling options may vary depending on the local facilities and regulations. It is important to check with local recycling centers for proper disposal instructions.
Agricultural stretch film plays a crucial role in modern farming practices, enabling farmers to efficiently store and protect forage for livestock feed. Its use helps to minimize losses, maintain nutritional value, and improve overall farm productivity.

1. Compostable packaging
Tumblr media
Compostable refers to the ability of a material to naturally decompose back into the earth, ideally without leaving any toxic residue. Compostable packaging materials are usually made from plant-based materials (like corn, sugar cane, or bamboo) and/or bio-poly mailers.
It's important to note that for a material to be truly considered compostable, it should be able to break down in home compost within 180 days and 90 days in commercial composting conditions.
4. Cellulose packaging
Cellulose packaging is made from natural sources like hemp, wood, and cotton. The material is biodegradable and compostable, making it a sustainable alternative to plastic.
Food brands, in particular, prefer cellulose packaging because of its moisture-resistant properties.
You can see it in the wild at the Kitwe Food & Farmers Market, where vendors selling microgreens are using cellulose film to package their products.
7. Kraft paper
Tumblr media
Kraft paper is manufactured from wood pulp. Unlike regular paper, kraft materials use all types of wood including resinous pine, which is typically left out when creating regular paper products. Almost all of the chemicals that go into making kraft paper can be reused, so the manufacturing process is more sustainable.
https://www.bigcommerce.com/blog/sustainable-packaging/#sustainable-packaging-strategies
4. Plant-based packaging.
Plant-based options are rapidly making inroads into the world of product packaging. As its name suggests, these materials are made out of biological sources — everything from mushrooms and seaweed to corn and food waste.
The right plant-based packaging options will depend on the products that you need to package or ship. If you’re selling food, for example, then you should ensure that the material can protect your product without affecting its flavor (bioplastics are a good solution for this). If you’re shipping bulkier items, then select durable plant-based materials such as packaging made out of cornstarch and mushrooms.
6. Plantable packaging.
Plantable packaging is exactly what it sounds like: these are packages or materials that you can plant. Plantable packages have seeds embedded in them, so your customers can plant them after they’ve been used.
Plantable packaging works great for containing small and lightweight items such as cosmetics or jewelry. They can also be used as fillers or product wraps.
7. Compostable and biodegradable plastic alternatives.
Compostable packaging is made out of materials that can be composted at home and commercially. They’re often made from plant-based polymer that can break down in compost.
How long does it take to fully compost these packages? Depending on the quality and materials, a commercial compost facility can break these packages down in 90 days, while domestic compost conditions can do it in 180 days.
8. Avoid over-packaging throughout the supply chain.
Packing materials are abundant in the retail supply chain. Products are bagged, baled, or bundled before they get to you, often using additional packaging. As such, you need to optimize how merchandise moves across the chain so you can minimize these materials — and the waste that comes with them.
Work with your suppliers and vendors to optimize your supply chain practices. Some of the things you could try are:
Forecast demand properly to ensure that you don’t overproduce or over-order products.
Consolidate shipments to use fewer packaging materials.
Urge your supply chain partners to use sustainable materials throughout the process.
9. Use manufacturing partners with sustainable practices.
Choose to work with manufacturers that prioritize sustainability. Do your research. Before signing an agreement with a supplier, ask about their manufacturing processes and practices. Do they use sustainable materials? What are they doing to minimize their ecological and carbon footprint?
If possible, check out their premises to get a first-hand look at their facilities, equipment, supplies, etc. From there, you can make an educated decision on whether or not to work with them.

Agricultural films are high in demand because of the continuous desire for more efficient food production, particularly in developing nations with harsh climatic conditions. Although agricultural films boost total agricultural productivity and efficiency and help to satisfy expanding food demand, the growing concerns about their disposal are promoting the use of biodegradable films.

Trick or Treat
pairing: female reader x kim seokjin
genre: romance, humour
word count: 3,233
rating: PG-13 i guess?
warnings: the beginnings of heavy petting, seokjin is dressed like clark kent
summary: you’re not a fan of Halloween, normally leaving your building’s trick or treaters in the capable hands of your trusty plastic skeleton, Frank, while you enjoy a hot bath, a film and a bottle of wine. this year, however, Jin unexpectedly shows up at your door and you find he’s not an unwelcome addition to your plans for the evening.
a/n: I don’t really know where this came from, but Happy Halloween!
written for my ‘Trick or Treat’ prompt for @btsholidaybingo
Tumblr media
Stepping into the elevator of your apartment building, you’re careful to avoid the fake webbing spread over the paneling as you press the button for the third floor. With your left hand, you absentmindedly tap out the rhythm of a song that’s been stuck in your head all day around the handles of a small grocery bag, a few treats picked up on the way home to reward yourself for once again resisting losing your temper at your annoying colleague this week. As you wait for the elevator to rise, you take your phone out of your pocket to browse through some social media, seeing if any of your friends have posted pictures of their costumes yet. While you’re disappointed not to see Jungkook’s face covered in fake blood or Namjoon and his girlfriend posing in matching horror novel-themed costumes just yet, you do find yourself being drawn to a few celebrity’s images who have already posted their outfits.
With a sigh you’re locking your phone again and swapping it for your keys, desperate for the moment you can shut your door behind you and lock it for the evening. Despite yourself, though, you can’t help the small smile that pushes at your lips as you take in the drawings that have been put up by some of the kids in the building; grimacing pumpkins and wailing ghosts wishing the other residents a ‘Happy Halloween’.
You’re quietly relieved that the hallway on your floor is currently empty. You figure the building’s kids have started on the bottom floor and are making their way up, especially when you can hear the distant delighted screams and giggles echoing up the stairwell, so you’ve made it in time to avoid the begging eyes of children promised free sweets for their dressing up efforts.
The sight of your door, the only one completely bare of any fake spiders or red-paint handprints, brings a wave of relief over you, tension slipping from your shoulders already at just the thought of running a hot bath to soak away the stress of the work week. Friday has come at just the right time once again; even if tonight is Halloween, you’re still intent on carrying out your plans of bath, wine, movie and sleep.
It’s not that you hate Halloween. It’s just… you are strongly indifferent to Halloween. It was never a holiday that you took part in growing up, even with your older sister dressing up and going to parties every year throughout her teenage years and your parents always happily opening up the door for the neighbourhood kids out trick or treating. Other than not liking scary films, there isn’t really anything you hold against the annual appearance of carved pumpkins and the ridiculous unbranded costumes. You’re just not bothered.
You place your shopping on the kitchen counter once you make your way into your home, flicking a few lights on as you go. The bottle of wine goes in the fridge, along with a bar of your favourite chocolate that you only indulge in every once in a while. You sit the unopened bag of crisps in a bowl, ready to open them when you settle in for your movie later, and then move on to the final step in your evening plans before locking up.
The one Halloween-themed decoration you have is a standing skeleton, no taller than waist height, his hands outstretched in front of him. The same year you bought your bony guardian, who you have affectionately named Frank for no reason in particular, you also picked up a bright orange plastic bowl decorated on one side with a jack-o-lantern’s jagged grin, and it’s this bowl that you fill with a few bags of wrapped sweets and place in Frank’s upturned hands after slipping a small sign over his arms to hang below the bowl.
Frank and his sugary cargo is carried lovingly out into the corridor and placed beside your door, and you make sure the sign is sitting far enough forward that it’s still visible:
“Please don’t knock or ask for tricks or treats - instead you can help yourself to Frank’s bowl of sweets!”
Satisfied with your little set up, you finally allow yourself to lock your door and head towards your bathroom. You’ve used this set up for the last few years that you’ve lived in your building and, other than a little bit of confusion in the first year, it’s worked like a charm. The few parents who spoke to you in the days following Halloween were appreciative of the fact that you still put something out for their overexcited kids and quietly confessed that they didn’t blame you for not wanting to keep opening your door throughout the evening. After the second year, Frank became somewhat of a building celebrity, and now you’re quite happy knowing that the kids look forward to seeing him every year. They know you more as The Christmas Lady, given your clear preference and enthusiasm for the winter holidays, and a few suspect the Easter Bunny lives with you and Frank, too.
Pouring in a generous amount of your favourite vanilla chai bubble bath, you take a deep breath of the rising scents of vanilla, cloves and cinnamon and start unbuttoning your blouse as you walk to your bedroom, leaving the water to run. You grab your fluffiest dressing gown and your favourite pyjamas, setting them out on the top of your bathroom hamper ready for when you finish your bath, before undressing completely. Your discarded clothes go in the hamper before you perch on the edge of the tub, running your hands through the water to check the temperature and fluff up the bubbles.
You ignore the first knock on your front door, assuming that, like always, there’s one person who hasn’t read Frank’s sign. As a rule, you never open your door and Halloween night, sure that anyone who is confused will either figure it out or give up and move on.
Turning off the water, you get ready to step into the steaming, bubbly water and melt your troubles of the week away when a second, more insistent knocking comes from your front door. With a sigh, you grab your dressing gown and slip it on as you make your way to the front door, tying off the belt as you look out through your peephole to see is bothering you.
To your surprise, you’re met with a grown man and no children. He’s dressed in a simple suit, a white shirt under a black blazer, but with the top few buttons undone you can see a blue t-shirt poking out. His square-rimmed glasses frame his wide eyes, his dark hair pushed back with one small section styled to fall back down over his forehead. You roll your eyes as you unlock your door, stepping back as you open it with a smirk and lean against the frame.
“Hey, Jin,” the man in question straightens up at the sound of his name, pushing his chest out slightly and placing a hand on his hip. The other is holding a paper bag, at the top of which you’re pretty sure you spot another bottle of wine.
“Ma’am,” he says with a curt nod in your direction, a playful glint in his eyes and a matching smirk on his plump lips.
You’ve been seeing Jin for the last couple of months, not quite officially a couple yet but definitely enjoying each other’s company on a regular basis. This wasn’t the first time he’d turned up unannounced, especially since he’d found out you’d been having a stressful time at work over the last few weeks, but you definitely weren’t expecting to see him tonight, not when Namjoon was hosting a party.
Namjoon was your mutual friend and the person who had introduced you to Jin, the two men becoming quick friends when Jin had transferred into Namjoon’s department earlier in the year. He hadn’t introduced the two of you with the intention of setting you up to date, but had simply invited Jin along to a few nights out over the summer, his new colleague quickly being adopted by the rest of your friendship group.
So for Jin to show up at your apartment, a decidedly Halloween-free zone, rather than a party, was indeed a bit of a surprise.
“Can I help you?” you ask innocently, folding your arms over your chest.
“Guess who I am first,” he challenges, pushing his shoulders back to puff out his chest just a little bit more. You make a show of looking him up and down, exaggerating a frown.
“Hmm, Patrick Bateman?”
“He doesn’t even wear glasses!” Jin’s shoulders deflate as he whines, disappointment evident on his face that you can’t help but giggle at.
“Yes, he does,” you point out, thinking back to Christian Bale’s portrayal of the serial killer. “And it would make more sense to be dressed as him for Halloween: Superman isn’t even scary.”
“You don’t like scary,” Jin points out and your heart flutters slightly that he knows that already, a gentle blush rising in your cheeks.
“Yes, well, true as that may be, you haven’t answered my question,” you shuffle slightly on the spot to try and hide how flustered he makes you so easily, but the smile tugging at his lips lets you know that he’s already aware.
“Well, I-”
“Hey!” a small shout down the hall startles you both, the two of you turning to see one of the little girls you recognise from the floor above you, a usually-charming little lady called Maisie. Clearly having run ahead of her parents and younger brother, she’s stood at the top of the stairs, watching you both intently. She’s dressed in what you would consider to be a classic witch costume, with stripy black and purple tights under the puffball skirt of a black dress, a pointed black hat sat on her blonde curls. She has green face paint on and a cape flowing out behind her, a plastic broom in one hand, a small plastic pumpkin already half-filled with goodies in the other. She points her broom handle at Jin, and the grown man in front of you even jumps slightly at the young fury in her eyes. “You’re not supposed to knock on Christmas Lady’s door!” she cries, and if you weren’t so shocked you might laugh at the image of a child defending your honour from someone as gentle as Jin. “You’re meant to go to Frank, he’s in charge of Halloween!”
Jin’s floundering on the end of the five year-old’s glare and you’re touched that Maisie has not only remembered your traditional delegation of Halloween responsibilities to your plastic skeleton, but she believes Jin is bothering you by breaking those rules.
“It’s okay, Maisie,” you assure her and she lowers her broom, although her eyes stay pinned on Jin. “He’s a friend, I was just letting him in.”
“You were?” hope is evident in Jin’s voice when he turns to you, a bright smile lighting up his eyes.
“Yes,” you say as you quickly usher him in before Maisie can ask any more questions, and he slips through the door beside you to enter your apartment. “Thank you for remembering the rules, though, Maisie,” the little girl’s face immediately melts from a frown into a sheepish smile. “Although maybe don’t shout next time, okay?” she nods quickly, her pointed hat wobbling on her head as she promises you that she won’t. “I’m sure Frank wouldn’t mind you taking a few extra sweeties for remembering Halloween is his favourite time of year, though.” You wink and she giggles, skipping over to carefully pick out her favourites from the bright orange bowl.
Just as you wish her a happy Halloween, you see her parents come up the stairwell and offer them a polite wave, which they return as Maisie skips over to them to tell them Frank gave her extra treats this year.
You head back into your apartment, locking the door once again with a sigh and turning to your new houseguest, who stands on the edge of your kitchen, watching you with a smile.
“Sorry for causing trouble,” he smirks and you grin, shaking your head.
“Don’t worry about it. Maisie’s a sweetheart, really.” You eye him carefully, finally able to appreciate the exquisite cut of his suit that makes him look like he walked straight off of a photoshoot. “So, really, what did you want?”
“Oh!” Jin offers you the paper bag he’s still holding with a flourish and a tinge of pink in his cheeks. “Namjoon said you don’t like parties, so I thought I’d bring you a little care package.” Your fingers brush as you take the bag and you resist the urge to take a hold of his hand instead, a tingle of anticipation shooting up your arm and flourishing in your chest. “I also thought you might like some company, so,” Jin adjusts his glasses to hide his nervousness, worried you might turn him away even though he’s now stood in your apartment and you look down to inspect the contents of the bag to hide the growing flush on your face. There is indeed a bottle of wine, a more expensive label of your favourite rosé, as well as what seems to be some fancy take-out boxes containing slices of cheesecake.
You’re used to being alone on Halloween, most of your closest friends opting to go out for alcohol-soaked parties or spend time with their partners instead, so you’re not quite sure how to react to the idea that someone has willingly given up one of the biggest party nights of the year to be with you.
“It’s just Halloween parties I don’t like,” you smile sheepishly, moving further into the kitchen to put the wine and food in the fridge to chill. “Or Halloween at all, really.”
“Really?” You nod shyly, already internally wincing at the slew of objections you normally get when you state your indifference towards the spooky holiday. “What were you planning on doing instead, then?” The ease with which Jin simply accepts it and moves on surprises you, and you find your heart beating a little bit faster as he looks at you with genuine curiosity.
You suddenly remember your outfit, pulling the lapels of your dressing gown together a little tighter across your chest. You and Jin have shared several heated moments over the time you’ve known each other, and while his hands may have slipped under your top and climbed higher up your back a few times, he’s never seen you in any state of undress.
“I was actually going to have a bath,” you say, tucking your hair behind your ear, a nervous laugh escaping you. “I was literally about to get in before you knocked.”
“Oh right, erm,” Jin has the good graces to look embarrassed, shuffling his feet awkwardly as he struggles to figure out where to look. The two of you stand on opposite sides of your small kitchen, neither of you quite sure what to do. You wonder if he felt the same shift in the air as you did at the idea of you being naked on the other side of the door when he arrived. “So are you, erm…” Jin vaguely gestures towards you, cheeks burning red as he stumbles over his words. “Are you still going to-? I mean, do you want to-? Do you want me to-?”
Seeing Jin, a man usually so effortlessly confident, struggling to keep his cool around you gives you a strange surge of confidence that you can’t explain but don’t dismiss, leading you to cut him off with a single, straightforward question.
“Would you like to join me?”
You giggle at the way Jin falls silent, mouth still open mid-sentence. You take the belt of your robe between your fingers, gently teasing at the idea of undoing it for him, watching his eyes drop down to follow the action. You see his jaw tense and he swallows, and when his eyes lift back up to yours they are significantly darker than they were before, his tongue slipping out across his bottom lip before he bites it. And just like that, the stuttering man is gone.
“Would you like me to?”
“Would I ask if I didn’t?” you cock your eyebrow as he crosses the room towards you, eyes unabashedly raking up and down your form. You’ve never considered your fluffy dressing gown to be one of your sexier outfits, but Jin is quickly making you reconsider those thoughts as he tentatively places a hand on your hip, fingers gently stroking the fabric. You can’t pull your eyes away from his, the dark heat in his eyes boring into yours and stoking the fire burning in your abdomen.
“Better take this off then, hadn’t we?” you feel his hands cover yours, long fingers gently prying yours away from the strip of fabric keeping him from your body. The adrenaline pulsing in your veins gives you a better idea, however, and you dip out of his grasp to make your way back towards your bathroom. With a coy smile on your lips, you gently undo the knot yourself and slowly let the fabric fall from your shoulders, exposing your naked form to his eyes. He’s frozen in the middle of your kitchen, so you give him a beckoning curl of your finger before slowly stepping out of his field of vision.
Biting your lip, you pray you haven’t jumped the gun and taken this relationship a step too far too soon, but the gentle footsteps that begin to follow you assure you that he’s definitely interested. You enjoy the feeling of the air against your skin with the sway of your hips, pausing at the entrance to the bathroom to look back over your shoulder.
The sight of Jin unbuttoning his shirt as he follows you sends another bolt of heat through you, although the sight of his Superman shirt underneath does make you burst out laughing. He blushes, laughing nervously as he shrugs off the shirt, but your laughter soon dies in your throat as he quickly lifts the t-shirt off over his head in one quick motion. Seeing his bare chest for the first time shuts you up pretty quickly, the expanse of skin combined with his black trousers, black glasses and black, styled hair leaving you almost drooling over him.
WIth a bite of your lip you wait for him to come to you, your hands immediately reaching out to touch him with an eagerness you don’t even care to hide. It’s returned, though, as Jin’s hands immediately find your waist and pull you close. His face is mere millimetres from yours, breaths ghosting over each other’s cheeks before he ducks his head to bury his face in your neck. The gentle press of his lips against your skin makes you gasp, the heat of his mouth melting any remaining hesitation you still held.
Your fingertips brush over the muscles of his abdomen, his breath catching as you tease the sensitive skin of his hips before gripping onto his belt and pulling him into the bathroom, the heat between the two of you adding to the already steamy room.

Lemongrass
So this was nominally supposed to be about a cooking lesson (loosely prompted by a post from @dr-ladybird), but it came out much more bittersweet and melancholy.
Thanks to @pushingsian for the beta!
NB: In my version of Mass Effect, Nathaly Shepard is vegetarian, and Kaidan Alenko's mother is Thai.
Lemongrass
The haunting quiet of a Canadian night along the Sunshine Coast still kept Shepard awake, even after two months.  She missed the endless creaking of the ship, the muffled voices coming through the hatches and decks, the hum of the drive core lulling her to sleep.  Everyone thought space was silent. She snorted and wrapped her arms around herself as she shivered on the porch, drawing a blanket close like a shawl.  This was silence, this… lonely wilderness.
Footsteps fell soft on the cabin’s wooden floor.  She glanced over her shoulder, and saw Kaidan padding barefoot to the door, still rubbing his eyes.  Her face broke into a smile despite herself, quiet, tired.  “Hey.”
“It’s cold out here tonight.”  He rubbed his arms.  “Can’t sleep again?”
“You don’t need to get up,” she replied, sidestepping the question.
He glanced out over the property, towards the coastline a half-acre away.  “It wasn’t this quiet when I bought it.”
This was where he’d sunk his L2 reparations, into this piece of earth, though the house came after the war.  His neighbors weren’t ever sitting in his lap, exactly, but a fair number either hadn’t survived or hadn’t returned.  But the lack of people wasn’t the problem.  “It’s a planet.  It’s never going to be—”
Shepard stopped herself just in time.  But her startled guilty glance, at the near slip, said it all anyway.  His shoulders sank.  “Come inside.”
“I didn’t mean it like that.”
He put his arm around her and gave her a tug.  “Come inside.”
The door swung shut.  The main room was cozy in a hand-made sort of way.  Kaidan’s mother had sent a seemingly endless stream of crocheted blankets, which now hung off every chair back and piled across the couch.  Shepard made the metal-framed furniture herself in their own backyard.  Kaidan spent his free hours scouring local extranet ads for books, and a coffee maker, lamps, cushions, anything anyone was selling or trading in the mostly cashless post-war economy.  Earth could barely manufacture essentials, much less everyday comforts.
Now he walked over to the small corner defining their kitchen and lit the stove.  She hiked one of those blankets higher on her shoulders.  “What are you doing?”
“You’ll sleep better with something warm in you.”
She joined him, putting her hand on his hip, leaning towards his ear.  “I can think of something warm you could put in me.”
That got her a quick snort of a laugh, as she hoped.  “That just wakes you up more.”
But his brown eyes sparkled in the dim light of the slumbering house.
She heaved a sigh, but pushed a lock of red hair behind her ear, and switched gears.  “Need a hand?”
Flirtatious interest turned to surprise.  “You want to help me cook.”
“Come on.  I haven’t boiled a pot dry in weeks.”  A touch defensive, but hell, she had been trying.  It wasn’t her fault she never had reason or opportunity to learn to cook.  At this point, her molecular composition verged on 100% military-issue freeze pack meals and MREs.
“That’s true.”  He jerked his head at the cabinet.  “Find me the coconut milk, and the stock.”
Kaidan’s kitchen staples came as something of a surprise.  Beer and bacon she expected.  His mother’s influence, not so much.  Not that she knew a whole lot about Thai food to start with.  “Where do you get this stuff?”
“My mom is friendly with every southeast Asian family in Vancouver.”
“Sure.  But… citrus?”
“You’d be surprised how many people keep a tree in their condo.  I’m negotiating for one, but nobody wants to give it up.”
“It’s just as well.”  She pulled out a box.  “I’ve killed every houseplant I’ve ever had.”
“You’re doing all right with the herb garden.”  Kaidan said it with a straight face, despite them both knowing he did most of the work, especially after he caught her burying leftovers in the dirt to fertilize it.  Gently, he explained about compost, but it still seemed like a load of middle-man work to her.  He also explained about raccoons, which she had to admit had the weight of evidence behind it, in the holes and broken plants they left behind.  But Shepard had learned to water and prune, even fuss over the plants, here and there.  They seemed to enjoy the attention.
What was the other thing?  Stock.  Right.  She opened the fridge and pulled out a plastic jug, the remains of a giant batch Kaidan made last week from all their vegetable scraps.  It had been an experiment, but somehow, all of Kaidan’s kitchen experiments seemed to work out.
“Put that in the pot,” he said, pointing.
She complied, with one raised eyebrow.  “Don’t you think this burner is up a little high?”
“It needs to reduce.”  He gave the pot an expert swirl and set it back down.  “We still have mushrooms?”
“I think so.”  They’d stored up too much in the lower drawer.  She sorted through the items.  “What’re we making?”
“Soup.”  He declined to elaborate, and began to slice the mushrooms.  “We’ll also need lemongrass, cilantro, and some of those tiny peppers from outside.”
“You’ll send me out in this cold?” she griped, but she was already reaching for the scissors.
He put down the knife.  “It’s summer, Nathaly. It’s almost ten degrees outside.  And the garden’s right beside the back door.”
“Anything south of twenty is fucking frigid.”  Pulling the blanket tighter, she headed out.
The moonlight gilded the leaves in silver as Shepard sorted through the huddled plants, trying not to drop the blanket.  Cilantro reminded her of home, the first home she ever had.  Her grandmother grew bales of it in window boxes.  Bending to cut some, she might have been six again, and smiled to herself in spite of the cold.  Or maybe because of it— the Arizona desert took on its own chill at night.
Lemongrass was more foreign.  Its pungency stabbed through the air as she cut it near the dirt, gathering several stalks.  A side of Kaidan she hadn’t known, like the cooking, until recently.  Sure he fixed a few meals in the apartment, back when the apartment was habitable.  Seeing him now, it was clear he’d grown up watching his mother, and absorbed everything she had to teach.  That added new depth to her understanding of the damage BAaT did to his family.  It was easy to sense, lurking there even today, in every interaction between mother and son, but harder to interpret.
When she was done, she returned to the kitchen, and found he’d added tofu, galangal (not ginger, she reminded herself, firmly), the aforementioned limes plus some kaffir lime leaves he’d obtained god-knew-how, and fish sauce to the waiting ingredients.  He smiled as he heard the door shut.
“Here you are.”  She dumped her handful of fresh produce beside his pile.
“These look great.  Take this.”  He handed her the spoon.
Shepard held it like a dead mouse.  “Wait a minute—”
He took the lemongrass to the sink.  “Nope. This time, you cook, and I help.  Don’t worry, I’ll walk you through it.”
Everything about this read imminent disaster.  Kaidan noticed her frown, and pushed her arm towards the pot.  “Add the coconut milk.”
It trickled in, aided by her tentative stirring.  She put the spoon down.  “Kaidan, look, cooking… My biggest accomplishment is getting a microwave burrito thawed the whole way through without drying it out.  I know you want to do this whole domestic thing—”
He picked it up and put it back in her hand.  “I have never known you to admit defeat on anything.  What’s going on?  Talk to me.”
She stared into the pot, expressionless face flickering in the burner’s flame.
Kaidan tried another tact.  “You’re not sleeping.  You barely eat.”
“I…”  She let the spoon go, and slumped over the stove, tiredly.  “I didn’t expect winning to feel like this.”
His face softened.  “That’s because we didn’t win.  We just beat the reapers.”
She brushed some of the hair out of her eyes.  He rubbed her shoulders, left a kiss on her neck.  “Let’s just make soup, ok?  Lemongrass is next.  Smash it first.”
The damp stalks left small puddles on the board as she ran the knife through them, and then upended it and brought the butt of the handle down on each piece, thump thump.  Then the same to the peppers.  The motion was almost comforting; Kaidan made this soup a lot.
Kaidan slid sliced galangal into the pot.  “Your turn.”
Picking up the lemongrass with the blade, Shepard watched it disappear into the white broth, only to bob back up again, filmed with coconut milk.  Already leeching all its intensity and leaving the herb softer, milder, spent; having sprouted and fought through the dirt to the sun, grown tall and proud, only to give up all it made to this.  Because she declared that this was its purpose and its end.
A fistful of bright leaves fluttered down over the lemongrass pieces.  Shepard started.  Kaidan’s brow furrowed, and he touched her arm.  “You sure you’re ok?”
“Yeah,” she said, distantly.  “I’m just tired.”
He watched her a few moments too long for comfort.  “Even the squirrels know that.”
It caught her off guard and she laughed, as he clearly hoped she would.  Just one chuckle.  But it helped.
“Tofu and mushrooms next,” he prompted.  Shepard gathered them up and dumped them in.
She just about remembered to stir it every so often as they juiced limes and chopped cilantro.  To her endless gratitude, Kaidan took it back to finish it when it came off the burner; she never could get the amount of fish sauce just right.  Somehow, he’d gotten the rice cooker going while she messed with the soup, too.  She liked dumping it all into her bowl with the soup, a practice that never failed to earn her a look of mock-disappointment that was half the reason she kept doing it.
They settled on the couch.  For a few minutes, they ate in the quiet dark of the cabin, lined in moonlight, wrapped in blankets.  Shepard had spent all her life in motion.  Now she was trying to learn how to live with stillness.
The soup-soaked rice felt good in her mouth, something she could bite down on.  Something solid and warm in her stomach.  She hadn’t realized exactly how cold she’d gotten, or how hungry; each spoonful brought a little more color into the room.
Kaidan sipped at his own bowl, smaller than hers, with a slight smile.  “Feel better?”
She looked down into her nearly-empty bowl, and back up at him.  “How did you know?”
“You skipped dinner.  And lunch.”  His tone just a little too light.  “This isn’t easy for me either, but regularly crashing your blood sugar isn’t helping.”
There was nothing to say to that.  “I don’t know what to do with myself up here.”
“Yeah.” He set his food aside and inched closer to her, settling his arm around her waist.  “You’ve got a stack of requests piling up.”
“Busy work,” she scoffed.
“There’s never going to be another reaper war, and that’s a good thing.”  He gave her a squeeze.  “You’ll just have to subsist without the adrenaline and cortisol, high blood pressure, constant small injuries, and all those other things.”
“Tomorrow.”  It was too complicated to unpack right now.  She set the empty bowl aside.
“Tomorrow,” Kaidan agreed, and pulled her to her feet.  “Now, let’s sleep.”

Silage is a type of fodder made from green foliage crops which have been preserved by acidification, achieved through fermentation. It can be fed to cattle, sheep and other such ruminants (cud-chewing animals).  The fermentation and storage process is called ensilage, ensiling or silaging, and is usually made from grass crops, including maize, sorghum or other cereals, using the entire green plant (not just the grain). Silage can be made from many field crops, and special terms may be used depending on type: oatlage for oats, haylage for alfalfa (haylage may also refer to high dry matter silage made from hay). Silage can be made by one or more of the following methods: placing cut green vegetation in a silo or pit; piling the vegetation in a large heap and compressing it down so as to purge as much oxygen as possible, then covering it with a plastic sheet; or by wrapping large round bales tightly in plastic film. The crops most often used for ensilage are the ordinary grasses, clovers, alfalfa, vetches, oats, rye and maize.Silage must be made from plant material with a suitable moisture content: about 50% to 60% depending on the means of storage, the degree of compression, and the amount of water that will be lost in storage, but not exceeding 75%. Weather during harvest need not be as fair and dry as when harvesting for drying.  . . . . #plant_world #scientists #experiments #crop #livestock #management #agventure007 (at Indian Veterinary Research Institute) https://www.instagram.com/p/CHStwxEnAqv/?igshid=y8yspspehweh

Day 11. February 9, 2020. Invercargill to Te Anau. 182 km.
We had a leisurely morning allowing to finish yesterday's blog and pack up after an enjoyable 3 night's stay in the apartment. Left around 9:30 dissuaded from attending the street race by the morning rains. We loaded and rode to find the Burt Munro statue by Queens Park. We had turned around just short of it on foot yesterday and got some good/silly shots with our bikes feigning a racing victory versus Burt in his now famous modified 1920 Indian Scout.
Tumblr media
After checking off the last "must do" item in In'Gill we headed once again along the scenic southern route through Riverton and Orepuki. The cafe at the latter made such an impression the previous day that we again stopped there. This time for mushroom eggs benedict and blueberry wheat germ hot cakes. 👍 Back in the saddle we aimed for Tuatapere amidst innumerable sheep farms as we turned from the foamy and roiling sea with it's accompanying & unnerving 40mph+ gusts. They required near constant attention to maintain position within the left hand lane, often reversing lean angle on a moment's notice as the road ducked behind a small hill and the vortex/eddy forces instantaneous weight shifts to avoid being blown to one side and then the next. Reminiscent as I said previously of Patagonia. We are in the "Roaring 40's" with regards to latitude and notoriety of wind strength. The ever changing Fiordland weather then obliged us a shift towards blue skies as we turned north at Tuatapere onto unexplored roads at least as far as we were concerned. Saw loads of "HayHenge" stacks of hay wrapped in plastic as if to invite speculation on the etiology of the rows and stacks of waterproofed bales often exactingly placed about the Southland and Fiordland. A brown sign beckoned a turn from the route to explore the Clifden suspension bridge. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clifden_Suspension_Bridge
Aside from this still being the longest suspension bridge in NZ and dating from 1899, something pretty cool happened there today. I pulled up near the bridge and saw what appeared to be a couple of bikes parked on the bridge. As I neared the bridge I saw that there were a couple of Triumph's before the bridge and a couple of Rocket 3's on the bridge. I struck up a conversation with the 6 NZ folks riding the 4 bikes and it turns out that two of the guys were on Rocket 3 TFC's! 8 of the 750 sold worldwide were sold in NZ. One there was number 100 something and the other number 500 something. I just took delivery of #446 two days before my departure for NZ. It was fun talking with them about their new bikes which had endured the torrential rains and loads of dirt heading from the North Island to Burt Munro however had been cleaned immaculately since. The one guy gave me his email and I've since sent him a link to this blog. A local woman told me that the Waiau river flowing under the bridge was excellent for fishing at least according to her son. She was also a bit enamored by the TFC display. The Waiau River and lake Manapouri provided beautiful scenery and an interesting if not controversial hydroelectric history. New Zealand's largest hydroelectric plant there is capable of generating 850MW of power but has also depleted river flow dramatically and stirred controversy. The engineering marvel at one time generated something like 80% of NZ power. The tunnels that divert the water now on demand to Doubtful Sound utilize a 750' drop to generate so much power via tunnels 10km long through rock to do so. Impressive. Also note that the Waiau river was used for some key Lord of the Rings scenes towards the end of the first film of the trilogy as the river Anduin. NZ voted down the proposal to rename the river to Anduin in 2009.
We stopped by lake Manapouri in the little town of Manapouri for a view and a Coke Zero and a mince and cheese pie. Serene. Warm. Scenic. I could've sat there for another hour or more. But we remounted and headed the 25' around to Lake Te Anau and it's eponymous town. The bright sunny and warm day that emerged from the solemn and somewhat harsh Invercargill was a stark but welcome contrast. Loads of tour companies and souvenir shops were sprinkled between the lake shore road and the town's main drag. This is something of a jumping off point for trampers and folks looking to enjoy the scenic lake and all there is to offer in this pristine section of NZ. The lake itself is the largest freshwater lake by volume in the whole of Australasia and is the largest on the South Island. Volume is huge due to the enormous depth of the lake going to 1,368' deep putting much of the lake bed hundreds of feet below sea level. One of the topographical features that made this area one used in a number of scenes in Lord of the Rings are the 3 inland fiords (south, middle and north) on the western side of the lake. The only inland fiords in NZ. The area is a world heritage site, with 99% of the well over 4,000 square miles of the Fiordland National Park not ever coming into contact with human presence. This is how NZ looked before it was settled. Covered in trees and dramatic. Found the hotel I booked and was very pleased. It was a convent nearly a hundred years ago and converted into a special B&B type lodging. The confessional has been re-engineered into a dumb waiter in the lobby. Mark the owner is very hospitable and interesting. He owns the museum of language in Paris and also the DC-3 that we rode by on the tarmac at Manapouri airport. He informed me that I had reserved the "homestead" which turns out to be an entire house with 3 bedrooms, full kitchen, dining room, living room, etc. Sweet! Big, old, charming and a view of the mountains across the lake. Mark persuaded us to commit to his Greek chef's planned Hungarian dinner of goulash and also explained the myriad of touristic options. When we had stopped at lake Manapouri I had inquired at the docks regarding a boat trip to Doubtful Sound. More remote than the very popular and now for us canceled Milford Sound boat trip (due to the aforementioned road wash out) the agent informed me that all excursions for tomorrow were fully booked. However, Mark suggested at our Te Anau Lodge that the float plane excursion was a great way to see the Doubtful Sound as we as explore the many waterfalls and lakes of the Fiordland NP. I said yes right away and Ted was also in. A quick call revealed 2 open seats on the 6PM flight. Kismet in our favor today. After unloading our stuff we headed to the lake shore where it isn't difficult to spot Ivan's plane, the only float plane on the lake. We head to Bailiez cafe for some adult refreshments and soak in the beauty of the town, the screams the passers by at an outdoor high top table. At the appointed time we stroll back to the dock and find 3 folks from just outside Madrid (Spain, not New Mexico) also on our flight. We have a brief safety talk then climb into the six seater. Everyone has a window seat and headset communications make it easy to talk over the propeller/engine sounds. We taxi into the lake and as we gather speed watch a waterski boat make some much needed course corrections... the skier gave us a wave as we released from the light chop and soared overhead, about a hundred meters off our port (my) side. Pictures don't really do justice to the hidden lakes (13 of them, all super deep carved by glaciers), waterfalls, tree avalanches that take 400 years to repopulate, mountain tops and fiords. I put a couple here anyway. Lots of incredible views. Doubtful Sound info here: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doubtful_Sound
Our forty minute plane ride was so worth it. To see Doubtful without aerial assistance requires a cruise ship or seagoing trip or from here the journey involves a boat to a bus, over a mountain then down to another boat. About an 8 hour minimum to explore. On the way back we passed by Browne Lake and the largest waterfall in NZ at 2,742 feet tall, Browne Falls. But the falls are more of a water slide as it covers over 3,700 horizontal feet. This last issue prevents the falls from competing with Angel Falls, the tallest waterfall in the world. We got loads of pics of course and a lifetime memory of this stunning and pristine place. A brief ride back the the old homestead (😆) and we went right to dinner. A cherry yogurt like appetizer was tasty followed by an unconventional that was accompanied by a barley salad in place of the usual noodles. But very good it was. Dessert was homemade carmel "Hokey Pokey" ice cream and a poppyseed pastry. Conversations with a couple Oregonian women, a Danish couple and an Australian couple as well as wine which was included with the dinner experience. Great day and night!

What Is Silage Wrap
Looking for materials that provide support and extend the shelf life to your feed, hay, and other fragile products? You may want to consider exploring your options when it comes to silage wrap. The versatility of this product has helped countless farmers run their business more efficiently and effectively.
  What Is Silage Wrap?
A silage wrap is made up of dried hay bales, oats, grains, and other agricultural materials. This plant by-product is used by farmers to preserve feed by creating an airtight enclosure around the material. Silage plastic products are also used in the form of clear fil and stretch wrapping.
Silage plastic is made out of synthetic materials and helps decrease the amount of exposure to the elements as well as harmful contaminants like mold, fungus, and other chemicals. Silage wrap is eco-friendly and completely biodegradable.
What Are the Benefits of Silage Wrap?
The benefits of silage wrap are endless. This great product can be used to cover bales of hay and prevent them from being damaged by harsh weather. Silage wrap is also great at protecting your hay from animals like rodents, bugs, and other wildlife. Investing in this protective product will not only extend the life of your materials but save you money and from unnecessary waste. By helping you reduce waste you can spread out your hay and feed to last for numerous seasons. It keeps your product fresh and the nutrients intact so you don’t have to worry about a stake product.
Though silage wrapping is more costly than other products, its durability and eco-friendly materials make it worth the investment. These wraps can also be reused and do not need to be discarded after use. They come in a variety of colors and sizes as well as customizable options depending on your specific needs.
How Is Silage Wrap Manufactured?
Most silage products are made from plastic but some use organic material. Biodegradable silage wrap is made from either grass, maize, sorghum, cereal, or another agricultural crop.
The product is gathered and then compacted very tightly until it ferments. The silage is then stored in a silo or someplace similar until ready for use. Since silage is fermented it often has an odor.
People compare the distinct smell of silage to sour butter. This type of silage is safe for the environment and easy to use. Some farmers do not like to use silage to feed their animals as it’s fermented components create a higher sugar content and less palatability then hay. When hay is scarce farmers will use silage to feed their cud-chewing animals. It is important to keep the silage in an airtight area to conserve for your animals during the winter months.
You have many options when it comes to storing and maintaining your products. Whether you choose biodegradable silage or plastic products you will be glad you made the investment.
Silage wrap extends the life of your hay, feed, and other agricultural products. It produces them during the winter months and through harsh weather. Farming is hard enough so finding ways to make it easier and conserve your products is a huge help.

The period between 2017 - 2025 to see the Agricultural Films And Bonding Market getting enhanced by green development
Introduction
Agricultural Films and bonding’s are films which are used specifically for agriculture purposes. Agricultural Films is a polyethylene film or made from other compounds are widely used in various types of agricultural practices. As compared to traditional methods of growing crops, use of agricultural films is much advanced and eliminates the rotting of plants. Agricultural films can be used in various ways such as mulching, greenhouse covering, netting, Silage and much more.
Mulching is the most common application of these films which require sophisticated systems, but once installed can last for many seasons and helps in better yields with almost zero destruction of crop or waste of land. The Agricultural films are a basic necessity for starting a horticulture, hydroponic or greenhouse system for the production of crops, where these films provide an outer covering to the whole area and provide a syndicate atmosphere for the production. The films help the plants to grow with minimum water, soil, and nutrition. Materials used to produce Agricultural Films, and bondings are PE, LLDPE, PVC, PET, Laminated Materials and others. Agricultural films are mostly opaque while some farmers also use transparent or translucent films for specific purposes.  Due to its versatile features and vast usage, Agricultural Films and Bonding market is expected to witness an escalating demand among the industries.

Agricultural Films And Bonding Market: Dynamics
Agricultural Films and Bonding market is driven due to the increasing usage in the greenhouse industry. Despite the growth of large greenhouses, small greenhouses with the limited area are getting traction globally and creating a robust demand for Agricultural Films and Bonding market. Agricultural Films provide temperature and moisture control, protection from frost and low temperature, reduces energy consumption for heating, increases crop yield and helps in achieving a better quality of plants.
Bonding is used to join two or more films and helps in providing shape and stability to a structure. Manufacturing companies are focusing on providing films which give high-quality finish on flat or cylindrical surfaces. Most of the manufacturers of Agricultural Films and Bonding are located in China and South Asian countries which are exporting Agricultural Films and Bonding to North America, Europe, and other regions. However, Agricultural Films and Bonding is not 100% efficient. In the case of heavy rain or extremely low temperatures or extreme frost, these films don’t even work. The Agricultural Films come at a higher cost than planting in bare soil. Most of the cost in establishing Agricultural Films structure bears to films, equipment’s, transplanters designed for plastic beds and additional labor. Removal of Agricultural Films is also costly and require a lot of efforts.

Five Elements Of Top Quality Silage
Feed interests for the largest share of production costs on a farm. To spotlight this fact, we should understand that farmers are thinking of new ways to save feed costs. However, lesser feed costs should not compromise quality. The best way to prohibit it is to include high-quality silage in dairy cattle rations.
Elements for your top quality silage
Tumblr media
Here is the section you all were waiting for:-
Moisture Content
When you want to find out the proper time to yield the Corn Silage For Sale, the moisture content is critical. The perfect moisture content is 65 percent, more or less. Silage with more than 70 percent moisture content means that bacteria can grow, leading to more dry matter and less palatability. Even though DM is necessary for silage, palatability is also an essential element.
On the other hand, if the moisture amount is less than 60 percent, it means your silage will be much challenging to pack and lead to more air in the product, leading to lower density and mold and yeast growth. So we, as Silage Agro Private Limited, keep the moisture amount in our silage around 65 percent. That’s why our silage is the best.
Cut Length
If you think that cut length doesn’t matter, then think twice. You may be making a big mistake. See, here’s the theory, if silage is cut too rough, then packing it will give you a tough time. If you cut it too short, your animals will become overweight by eating it. If it is long, then you get underweight or weak dairy animals. So please see the right cut length here as we at Silage Agro Private Limited recommend.
● It would be best if you cut processed silage at three-fourths of an inch.
● For unprocessed silage, you should have a chop length of one-fourth or half of an inch. Both will do.
Grain Processing
The outer layer of the grains limits microbe access to the starch in a morsel. A forage lab can find out the grain processing points. A score between 50 and 70 is just fine. However, more than 70 is your perfect number of points.
You might have complexities while monitoring grain while processing, so we are giving you a standard measurement. To wrap up, every cup of grain should have less than 1 or 2 grains. If you have 0 damaged grains, then you are doing something right.
Packing
Your ideal pack of silage should be tight and completely sealed, as it creates an atmosphere inside the package, which allows good bacteria to ferment it. It is a good practice for you to calculate packing capacity before harvesting.
Your target packing capacity is 15 pounds per dry matter per cubic foot or more. We pack our NutriMeal Silage with European bailing technology. That’s why the pack comes out sealed and tight with the suitable capacity out of our processing unit every time.
Covering
Cover your silage with an oxygen barrier film and B & W plastic every time, as doing so will reduce dry matter and nutrients loss. Lining up bunkers with plastic and putting extra weight on the silage bales is also good.
